Few people in any industry can claim to have altered the direction of that industry, but David Leadbetter is one. When a playing career eluded him in the 1980s, he turned his mind and energies to coaching and from humble beginnings, has built one of the most recognisable golf instruction "brands" in the world. But along the way, Leadbetter's profile - and that of his successful clients - helped reshape the way golfers think about taking lessons, a change remaining in effect to this day. John Huggan sits down with Leadbetter to talk everything from his transformation of Nick Faldo's swing, to the one player he never got to work with but wanted to.

This Friday afternoon recording kicks off with some housekeeping, as Andy got a new power cord for his microphone just in time for the show after the old one almost electrocuted Producer PJ in Austin. Brendan has PJ attempt to explain why Syracuse's football coach won't shower for a week following a loss, which came up as a result of Brendan's Boston College Eagles defeating the Orange last weekend. From there, it's a shared segment of both TGL and Champions Tour Minutes, as Bob Papa may be out as the Champs Tour lead play-by-play man next year and there are new TGL holes to discuss. We got our first look at the SoFi Center with a video of Atlanta Drive GC's Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas hitting in the arena being posted to social media on Wednesday. Brendan brings attention to an auction containing items from Paul Azinger's personal collection, being sold to prevent human trafficking in Florida, including some "game-used" NBC polos, Ryder Cup gear, and an invitation to Nick Faldo's 2007 Masters party in Augusta. It was a big few days for Ryder Cup news, as the PGA of America announced that tickets sold out for the 2025 event, despite the high price tags. Speaking of price tags, it was reported that American players may receive $400,000 for their participation in the Ryder Cup moving forward, leading to Rory McIlroy offering up that he would pay for the right to play in the event on the European side. Andy provides some updates on ongoing tournaments, as SGS Good Walk Around Pinehurst guest Justin Lower currently leads in Bermuda. This episode ends with some user submitted stories and some form of golf advice relating to favorite fruits.

The numbers are impressive, and they tell much of the amazing story of David Leadbetter. He has coached elite players such as Nick Faldo, Nick Price, Greg Norman, and Ernie Els to more than 20 major championship titles and more than 100 individual worldwide tournament victories. Yet, the full tale of Leadbetter lies in his passion for getting to know his players and helping them maximize their abilities. What an instructor and what an interview!

Nick and Mark are amped over last weeks Cam Smith news that he will be playing the NSW Open at Murray Downs in November, so much so that we start the show by calling Golf NSW COO Graeme Phillipson to ask him how it happened, and how Golf NSW pulled off such a fantastic get. Great chat, and some fantastic insights into the process, and what it now means for the NSW Open.We discuss the Fedex Cup final round, and the win (sort of) by Scottie Scheffler. Mark is annoyed that one of the commentators described it as a wire to wire win when it clearly wasn't, Nick agrees. We discuss if it counts as a win given the way the final was structured. And Nick talks through Scheffler's shank in the final round. And we talk about the Sahith Theegala incident in the bunker and the self-reporting that cost him a lazy 2.5 million.Nick starts telling us about an unfortunate incident he had in Abu Dhabi where he self-reported, which is interrupted when the hotline rings, and it's Talk Birdie Wolfpack member Sammy J from Melbourne who has a couple of comments on women's golf participation, and diversity more broadly in golf. He makes some excellent points, and then undoes all his good work by telling us a joke that he thinks Marko will enjoy. Mark does, Nick and Dan do not.Back to Nick's Abu Dhabi story, and then Mark tells a cracker about Craig Parry and Nick Faldo playing in Bali. It's very funny, although not for Sir Nick who was leading by a boatload when disaster struck, courtesy of Craig Parry. After the turn, Nick gives us a great Scottie Scheffler stat. Then, thanks to our mates at Southern Golf Club, Mark lists his Top 5 weird stuff in the golf swings of some champions. Nick has watched the Lee Trevino documentary at the weekend, Mark is horrified that Nick was out of the lounge room making a coffee and missed the best part!A fun story about PING's Bubba Watson from Nick, and Mark talks about the 'flags' at Augusta. Lots to run through in the PING Global results from Nick, and Nick names what hole at what course is the hardest tee shot in the world of golf.As usual plenty of feedback to run through, so much so that we run out of time, so we'll drop back later this week and do another Q&A bonus pod.And thanks to the new watchMynumbers app, download from the App Store or Google Play, Nicks masterclass today is on spinning the ball on your wedge shots.A big thanks to our great Talk Birdie partners:PING will help you play your best, like they have for Nick O'Hern. In Episode 25 Part 1, I'm joined by two fantastic Instructors, Tom Patri and Larry Rinker. TP and I talk about the history unfolding in front of all of us from Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda. He shares his thoughts on why in the world Victor Hovland went from winning the Tour Championship to making swing and coach changes. We also get into the unprecedented amount of money that Scheffler's Caddie, Ted Scott is making. It's about to be more in the last few months than Arnold Palmer made playing golf in his career. Larry Rinker played his college golf at the University of Florida and was the medalist at the 1978 SEC Championship. He is now one of the top Instructors in our game. Larry played in a couple of Masters Tournaments and we talk about his first experience back in 1983. He played a practice round with Payne Stewart and Scott Hoch and the Par 3 Tournament with Gary Player and Gay Brewer. We get both of those stories plus what it was like playing in the final group at the 1984 Heritage Classic with Nick Faldo, when Faldo got his first PGA Tour victory. Check him out online at www.larryrinker.com.

Had a really cool conversation with golf coach David Leadbetter. We discuss the importance of the takeaway in the golf swing and his new training aid called the “Straightaway”. We also chat about his work with Nick Faldo and dive into his teaching philosophies. More information on David below. https://instagram.com/davidleadbetter?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
Hello again Fellow Golfists, This host made an investment in a golf training aide product that already shaved 5 strokes off my game in my most recent golf outing. I shot 75 on a golf course where I normally shoot 80 or 81. Under difficult conditions at my local municipal golf course I had a very good day of golf. I owe my success this past weekend to the device that is called the Leadbetter "Straight Away" training device from Performance Golf. David Leadbetter is internationally known for being the golf instructor that helped Nick Faldo win 6 major championships. Leadbetter has instructed many golf professionals to help them win on the PGA Tour and have victories in the world of major championship golf. Names like Price, Els, Faldo and Frost are most notable in my memory. This device helped me with my driver, my irons, and most surprisingly with my putter. I had a great time playing golf during the much cooler than anticipated Labor Day weekend in Northern California. I practiced with this new device at the Emerald Lakes Golf Course in Elk Grove California and also the Thunder Valley Golf Resort at Whitney Oaks in Rocklin California. I had different experiences at both facilities. Wow, I just realized that this is my 100th episode. I want to thank you for listening to my content about my golf experiences. I think this means that I will be doing a reflective TKG episode in the near future. Thanks again for listening to The Knackered Golfist Podcast!GOD Bless You!! Reeves Weedon is a Fellow of the PGA, a published author and researcher. He's also an authorized Master of the Golfing Machine, a TPI Certified coach and a presenter for the Nick Faldo series of golf. Reeves specialises in Biomechanics and the Prevention of Lower Back Injuries in golf. Recently his three-year research project (on prevention of lower back injuries - conducted at Michigan State University) was presented to the 37th International Society of Biomechanics in Sports Conference. Reeves joins #OntheMark to discuss "Weedon's Way" - his method of swinging a golf club. His "Lower Body Swing" is based on a fundamental fact of physics - all power ultimately comes from Ground Force and from pushing on the ground. His golf swing involves a whole body motion, powered by the appropriate use of the legs, hat does not require any compensatory moves to get the club on plane, or preserve loft, or create lag. Weedon's approach to using the legs to initiate the correct Kinematic Sequence promotes maximum clubhead speed for minimum effort by way of an efficient, timely transmission of force to the club. Unlike other golf swing methods, Weedon's "Lower Body Swing" directs the golfer's attention to the movements that Physics prove powers the golf shot. This approach to swinging the golf-club makes use of two of the three largest muscles sets in the body - the Gluteus Maximus and the Quadriceps. Activating these muscles when swinging the club enhances power, consistency and most importantly reduces back injury and pain by enhancing the pivot and reducing tilts. Play with less pain and more power. Download this podcast or watch it on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/@MarkImmelman
It's one of the most infamous moments in golf: Greg Norman taking a six-shot lead into the final round at Augusta National, only to live out every golfer's nightmare as he shot 78 and lost to Nick Faldo. Today, 27 years later, as Norman has emerged as the face of LIV Golf's threat to the game's world order, that memory feels as fresh as ever. On this episode of Local Knowledge, we dive deep to explore why it happened, what might have prevented it, and what we can learn from Norman's fate on that timeless Augusta Sunday
The golf world's attention has turned to Augusta, Georgia, with Rose Zhang doing her thing at the Augusta National Women's Amateur, and the Masters just a few days away. Three-time Masters champion Sir Nick Faldo joins the program to chat with Shane about his wins, the changes to 13, and what he expects at the much-anticipated Champions Dinner. Nick and Shane go back over each of the three Faldo wins at the Masters, talking about the crazy 77-65 he shot over the weekend in '89, what clicked on Saturday and Sunday in '90, and when he knew he had a shot at catching Greg Norman on that infamous Sunday in '96. After that, the two discuss the changes to the 13th and how much closer that par-5 will play to what Nick faced when he was dueling down the stretch. Nick shares which hole plays the most differently for modern players compared to when he was in his prime, the upcoming Champions Dinner, and plenty more. A huge thanks to Nick for his time. This was a really fun conversation as we inch closer to Thursday. __________ Ground Under Repair spring t-shirts: https://breakingt.com/gur Bacon's Breakfast Blend with Good Walk Coffee Company: https://goodwalkcoffee.com/bacon The Golfer's Zoo: https://www.back9press.com/baconSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Over the course of the last 4 and a half years speaking to people for this podcast – the topic of visualisation has come up a lot.Former Wales rugby union captain Sam Warburton spoke about using it to help him recover more quickly from an injury.6 time major golf winner Nick Faldo would visualise the outcomes he wanted twice a day in his pomp, and “saw” himself as the winner of major championships including The Open – before it happened. So, this is a massive topic among elite performers – and one of my guests who put it in some truly compelling terms was Lewis Pugh, the record breaking swimmer and UN Patrons of the oceans. Lewis was the first person to complete a long-distance swim in every ocean of the world, and was also the first person to swim across the North Pole- to highlight the melting of the Arctic sea ice. Lewis does all his swims, even those in freezing temperatures- wearing only a pair of speedos - and his work has been dubbed ‘speedo diplomacy.Lewis Pugh harnesses the power of visualisation to such a great effect – scientific papers have been written about it. He can dramatically change the state of his body through the power of his mind.**Follow/message me:Instagram https://www.instagram.com/simonmundie/Twitter https://twitter.com/simonmundieAnd for the 'Mundie on Monday' newsletter - featuring three of the best Life Lessons from four years and 200 of these conversations - head to simonmundie.com (where you can also drop me an email)Please do share this episode with anyone who may benefit, and rate and review wherever you get your podcasts. Golf delivered again on Sunday with compelling dramas, handshake controversies, and coverage angst. Andy and Brendan begin with the Women's PGA Championship, where Lexi Thompson had another torturous Sunday collapse in a major. They compare it to last year's slow bleed at Olympic, and wonder how she can keep coming back. There are also some kind words on Congressional and harsher words for the pace of play and a skimpy broadcast window. Xander's weekend at the Travelers is assessed, both good and bad, and the thrill of Theegala, both good and bad, is also praised. They ponder the Tour's next move in light of Pierceson Coody's impressive showing after turning down LIV money while Oklahoma State stud Eugenio Chacarra turned pro to take the LIV cash. Nick Faldo's segment on Brooks running off to LIV is also discussed. Finally, there's delight and appreciation expressed for Haotong and Paddy's victories.
This delayed Wednesday episode begins with some big changes proposed to the PGA Tour's structure, namely trimming some of the fat with their status scheme. There are, once again, tweaks proposed for the playoffs and a three-event cash grab tour in the fall. Andy and Brendan discuss all these proposals, how they might work, and if they will matter in the fight against LIV. Stick around for the ad read on this one as well, as they might get in trouble. One name defecting to LIV is Brooks Koepka, and his decision is panned in light of his recent statements. There's also significant room allotted to Nick Faldo stepping away and Trevor Immelman stepping in at CBS. Shhhhedule for the week focuses on a logjam of major golf, starting with the Women's PGA at Congressional, which should show beautifully. The Travelers, Senior Open, and BMW Euro event are also discussed with varying degrees of amusements at the fields.
On Today's Dan Patrick Show, DP talks to ESPN's NBA Insider Brian Windhorst about the possibility of Kyrie playing for someone other than the Nets next season. Nick Faldo joins the show to discuss why he decided to retire from broadcasting and if the LIV tour has reached out to him about broadcasting.
