Welcome back to another electrifying episode of the Metal Maniacs Podcast, where your hosts Jay Ingersoll and Modd dive deep into the heavy metal underground to bring you the best in music, interviews, and discussions. In our 61st episode, we're thrilled to be joined by Muskegon's longest-running metal band, Kill Tomorrow. Kill Tomorrow, formed in the heart of Muskegon in 2003, has been a steadfast force in the metalcore scene for over two decades. Their music is characterized by brutal growls, crushing guitar riffs, and an aggressive style that has won them a loyal following. In this episode, we dig into the band's rich history, starting with their early days and their first album *When All Is Lost* (2003). We talk about the evolution of their sound, the milestones they've achieved, and how they've managed to stay relevant in a constantly changing music scene. One of the highlights of this episode is our deep dive into Kill Tomorrow's discography. Fast forward to their latest release, *More Harder and Heavy Ish* (2023), and it's clear that Kill Tomorrow has only grown stronger. The production quality is top-notch, allowing the band's playing to shine through. The riffs are heavier, the songwriting more refined, and the vocals more diverse, with a noticeable influence from Glen Benton's deep, guttural style. Tracks like “Pornographic Memory” and “Redemption” highlight the band's ability to mix brutal heaviness with melody and groove, making for a dynamic listening experience. The band's technical prowess is also on full display in tracks like “I Am the Liquor,” where they experiment with different recording techniques to bring out the best in their performance. We discuss how these choices are made in the studio and the thought process behind their music's unique sound. No conversation with a band like Kill Tomorrow would be complete without discussing their live performances. Known for their energetic and intense shows, Kill Tomorrow brings the same level of aggression and passion to the stage as they do to their recordings. The band shares some of their favorite shows, including recent performances on June 1st at The Patio and July 13th at The Music Factory. They reflect on what makes a show stand out, from the energy of the crowd to the chemistry on stage. Of course, not every show goes off without a hitch, and the band opens up about some of their worst show experiences and how they've learned from those moments. They also share insights into their practice schedule and how they stay sharp and ready for whatever comes next. Beyond the music, we get to know the members of Kill Tomorrow on a more personal level. The band members also talk about their hobbies outside of music and what they're listening to right now. It's clear that their passion for metal runs deep, but they're also well-rounded individuals with a variety of interests that help fuel their creativity. As we wrap up the episode, we look ahead to what's next for Kill Tomorrow. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to their music, this episode offers a comprehensive look at what makes Kill Tomorrow one of Muskegon's most enduring and exciting metal acts. As always, we want to thank our listeners for tuning in to the Metal Maniacs Podcast. We hope you enjoyed this in-depth interview with Kill Tomorrow and learned something new about this incredible band. Interview by Kris PetersWhile the fact that most things can, and invariably do, change with the times, there are certain - but not many - elements that resist. In music, you would be hard-pressed to find a band who has not experimented with or tried to cater to the ever-evolving tastes of music consumers, but there's one above all others who you could unreservedly say has not even tried. Not one iota. That band is US death metal legends Deicide, led by Glen Benton, who have spent their entire 35-year existence beating to the tune of their own drum without thought nor care for what was going on in the world around them. With the recent release of their 13th studio album Banished By Sin, Deicide have further enhanced their status as immortals of the metal realm, producing an album that is a testament to the band's unwavering commitment to their craft, promising a collection of tracks that are both ferocious and unapologetically blasphemous.HEAVY recently sat down with the elusive Benton to find out more."Pretty amazing, man," he offered when asked how fans have responded to the album. "A lot of people are losing their shit over it."We ask him about the album musically."We went through the whole COVID bullshit thing with everybody else, and we had a lot of time on our hands," he shrugged, "so we put together a record. We're not on contract, so we were just writing for the fun of it."In the full interview, Glen talks more about the aggressive nature of Banished By Sin, whether it becomes easier or harder to come up with new material the more you release, recording the album to produce more of a live sound, getting back to their roots, sticking to their style and vision despite changing world trends, the early days of Deicide and where the band fit in, his early vision and how it has changed since, their debut self-titled album and if it was intended to shock the system, tour plans and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
In this episode of Talk Toomey, Andrew and Vigil from The Ghost Inside share insights from their recent performance at Rockville, including their excitement about Slipknot and the unique surprise of seeing a plane with their album banner, arranged by their record label. The conversation delves into the creative process behind their new album, highlighting their collaboration with outside artists and the positive reception of their new songs. Andrew opens up about the challenges of drumming after losing part of his leg and how it has influenced their music. Lastly, the band reflects on the impact of their 2015 bus accident and how it continues to shape and inspire both them and their fans. Searching For Solace is out now. Toomey starts the show with news on the Nu Pod change, what happened and the why. He also talks about the debacle that was the podcast studio and he and The Ghost Inside getting ghosted. Thankfully they rescheduled the interview and it is being brought to you today. Toomey discusses seeing Deicide live and meeting Glen Benton for the first time in real life. He also gives a rant on opening bands having too much gear (that never works). This week on The MetalSucks Podcast, we welcome Brittney Slayes, vocalist of the mighty Unleash The Archers! During our chat, we discuss the band's forthcoming album Phantoma due this Friday, May 10. Some of the topics covered during our conversation includes what went into the creation of the album's concept and overarching storyline, how the protagonist in the story is thrust into horrible situations but that hope is always right around the corner, and how this relates to us having to slow life down in modern times to truly be appreciative. On a more philosophical level, we also tackle how new challenges in life can be scary but necessary, why being happy is a conscious choice that isn't always easy, the negativity that we have to take daily in so many avenues on the internet, the positive messaging Brittney's tried, and how the positive interactions the band has with fans are a blessing for them. Petar and Brandon discuss the rapper OsamaSon completely ripping off Iron Maiden's artwork, Deicide's Glen Benton statement on the modern look of metalhead, and the disturbing allegations made against Knocked Loose's drummer Kevin Kaine (and his response to those accusations). We are fighting the Christmas spirit this year by discussing the trend of Metal bands writing about money-grubbing, lying, megachurch owning evangelists in the '80s and '90s such as the infamous battle between Deicide's Glen Benton and Christian Talk Show Host Bob Larson. We also share our favorite albums from 2023, including picks from Spirit Possession, Frozen Soul, Phobocosm, Blood Incantation, Xysma, and more. Welcome to another album review on The Great Metal Debate podcast. I'm Xander, and today I'll be talking about the upcoming album from the Nashville-based black metal duo Obsidian Shrine. I've been a fan of Obsidian Shrine for nearly three years, since I discovered them in mid-2019. I never go the opportunity to see them live, but I have heard from many people that they always put on a good show for a local act. The band's debut album – Anno Domini Satanas – is vastly overlooked and is a true hidden gem for any black metal fan. If the band Inquisition wasn't already proof that you can make quality black metal with just two people, then let these two guys proove it witht their new album Bloodshed Under The Black Star. The first song is the album title track, and immediately we are greeted with a cacophany of crystal clear yet rhythmic sound. It begins like any other well-produced modern black metal; but after 30 seconds, there is a sudden tempo change. It's a pleasantly triumphant battle hymn, made up of a marching band-style drum roll for a small build-up. Then… hell is unleashed! When the raspy vocals of Murmur kick in, you pretty much know what you're in for. This song's surprises don't end there. At the half-way mark we hear a guitar solo from none other than Sebastian Ramstedt from the old-school blackened death metal band Necrophobic. It's a nice treat and fore-shadowing what's to come later on in the album. “Kingdom Of Sheep” is another standout track, as it begins with the ominous sound of sheep baaing. The last time I heard a song start off this way it was the song “Satan Spawn, The Caco-Daemon” by Deicide. However, the baaing doesn't last near as long, as it is cut short by the snarls of a Baphomet. Plus, this song is absolutely nothing like the beginning of “Legion” as it is a very different musical style. The song itself is a dark-to-light. “Only War Remains” is a track that truly showcases how good guitarist Nazgûl is at shredding. As for the song “Luciferian Wrath,” it's every bit as diabolical as it sounds. “Angelus Mortem” is without a doubt the most evil song on the entire record – especially since most of the vocals are Murmur and Nazgûl at the same time. Which makes the song sound every bit as satanic as when Glen Benton and Dave Suzuki did on the last two Vital Remains albums. Track 6 is called “Indoctrintoxin” and it's probably the fastest song on the album due to the continuous blast-beats and the fast guitar strumming with plenty of distortion. Just like with all great modern metal releases, it just isn't complete without a cover song from the most influential musicians to the band. I told you Necrophobic was coming back: track 7 is a near-identical re-recording of the song “Nailing The Holy One.” Obsidian Shrine has done an incredible job of honoring the metal gods! “At The Gates” isn't just the name of a Swedish metal band; it is also the name of the next song. Yet another standout track for the band. But the album concludes with a wonderful song about good old demonic possession. The final track is called “They Who Dwell Within,” which opens with an audio clip from the movie Exorcism Of Emily Rose. Once you hear the voice of actress Jennifer Carpenter say the name of the track, you are hit in the face with an unrelenting hellfire of a song. It's an epic and hellish finale, which ends with the haunting message of Emily saying: “And I am Lucifer – the devil in the flesh.” You can tell that Murmur and Nazgûl both poured their blackened hearts and souls into the production of this album. It was made for their small cult following of fans and their die-hard supporters. Do not sleep on this amazing black metal album – it'll be worth every penny! I'm giving it a 9.5 out of 10. Obsidian Shrine's Bloodshed Under the Black Star will be available on April 15th through Negative Earth Recordings. You can pre-order your copy of the CD and order their t-shirt on Bandcamp.com.

This week we speak with Aborted vocalist Sven de Caluwé about the band's new album TerrorVision, including how the decision came about to name it after the '80s thriller, how awful that film was, how the title isn't a direct reference to the movie but to the state of the world today and the cheap scare tactics modern-day horror films utilize. We also discuss how people often forget that metal is supposed to be fun, how modern technology can cover up mistakes and the negatives that brings, how Sven has always been a big sucker for artwork, which recent band Aborted toured with whose audience did not receive them well, his feelings about returning to perform at the Bataclan in Paris after the tragedy at the Eagles of Death Metal concert, and which children's film would make a great concept for a death metal album. Petar, Brandon, and Jozalyn introduce a new school for air musicians, discuss Glen Benton vs. Mormons, the "bad vibes" Ozzy Osbourne got from Black Sabbath, how we would like to see Ozzy go out, and the Rebel Wizard shirt Jozalyn must own. Songs: Aborted - “Terrorvision” Aborted - “Squalor Opera”
