Dani also explores the song's lyrical themes of yearning and loss, reflecting on its portrayal of a destructive relationship akin to a drug addiction. Additionally, he touches upon the collaboration with guest vocalist Liv Kristine, whose ethereal vocals added a haunting contrast to the track. Interview by Angela CroudaceCradle of Filth's frontman, Dani Filth, sat down with HEAVY to discuss the band's 14th studio album, The Screaming of the Valkyries, their evolution over the years, and the provocative themes they've explored in their music.Dani shared that the new album brings a modern sound while still nodding to Cradle of Filth's roots, with a blend of fresh ideas and older influences. "It's a modern sound record, one step forward, but it also has a passing nod back to previous incarnations," he explained. This new direction is, in part, thanks to new members Donnie and Zoe, and the band's increased playtime during the pandemic, which helped refine their sound.Although the album doesn't have a central concept, Dani describes it as a celebration of escapism, rituals, and vampirism. He elaborated on the inspiration behind the album's title, revealing that it stems from the final track, When Misery Was a Stranger. The title The Screaming of the Valkyries was inspired by the impending doom of the Doomsday Clock, likening the sound of Valkyries' screams during Ragnarok to the existential realisation of impending disaster. On the subject of religion, Dani was candid about his views, stating that while he respects others' beliefs, he finds the notion of religion's validity in the modern age absurd. “I think time has just worn out the message,” he said, pointing to the age of science and the contradictions he sees within religious teachings. However, he emphasised that it's the belief itself, not the dogma, that holds value.Over the years, the band's dynamic has evolved significantly, with Dani noting that the band and crew have become a tight-knit family. He shared a personal moment, reflecting on a recent wedding within the band, symbolising the strong bond they now share. The influence of the band's longevity and experience shows through in the new album, which recalls elements of their older works. When asked about his favourite track from the new album, Dani pointed to Ex Sanguine Draculae, a song that takes him back to the band's earlier work in the ‘90s. “It just reminds me of the era that we did the Dusk and Her Embrace record,” he said. He also revealed the band's collaboration with renowned producer Scott Atkins, praising his approach to refining the band's sound and ensuring the production was sharp and true to their vision.Dani also shared that, if given the chance, he'd love to collaborate with Lana Del Rey, citing her gothic sensibilities and haunting voice as a perfect fit for Cradle of Filth's style. Fans of both artists may just get lucky one day.As for the fan experience, Dani recalled a bizarre moment in Australia when a fan gave the band a prosthetic leg as a gift, only for it to later be tossed onto the stage during a performance. "I don't know whether it was a gift or whether we should have given it back," he mused, "We did give it back though" he confirmed. With The Screaming of the Valkyries out this week, Cradle of Filth continues to push boundaries while honoring their legacy in the metal world. Fans can expect a thrilling mix of old and new, with Dani and his bandmates at the forefront, creating music that's as unpredictable and darkly captivating as ever.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Also devil driver was a treat as well as I have not seen them since forever either. To me the show rocked, cradle isn't for everyone but the songs they played are the songs I love by them and I couldn't have asked for a better set. Moving on from that what do the raiders do but do raider things. It's painfully obvious that the raiders need a qb and now coaching is top priority. DEVILDRIVER and COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara joins us on this week's Loaded Radio Podcast Dez Fafara is a renowned American vocalist and frontman, best known for his work with the California groove-metal band DEVILDRIVER and Nu-Metal stalwarts COAL CHAMBER. Born on May 12, 1966, in Santa Barbara, California, Fafara developed a passion for music from an early age. He grew up listening to various genres of music, including punk, rock, and metal, which greatly influenced his musical style. Fafara co-founded the band COAL CHAMBER in 1994, along with guitarist Miguel "Meegs" Rascón. Known for their distinct fusion of nu-metal, gothic, and alternative rock elements, COAL CHAMBER gained significant attention in the late '90s. Fafara's aggressive yet melodic vocals and captivating stage presence contributed to the band's success. They released three studio albums: "Coal Chamber" (1997), "Chamber Music" (1999), and "Dark Days" (2002) before taking an extended hiatus and returning with the 2015 LP "Rivals".  In 2002, Fafara formed DEVILDRIVER, a heavy metal band with a more aggressive and intense sound. Leading the group as the vocalist and primary songwriter, Fafara steered DEVILDRIVER towards a more straightforward and brutal approach to metal. The band's debut album, "Devildriver," was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim for its ferocity and uncompromising style. DEVILDRIVER has since released several successful albums, including "The Fury of Our Maker's Hand" (2005), "Pray for Villains" (2009), and "Trust No One" (2016), solidifying their place in the metal scene. Throughout his career, Fafara has collaborated with various artists and participated in numerous side projects, including collaborations with Ozzy Osbourne, Nikki Sixx, and SOULFLY. He has also been involved in other creative ventures outside of music, such as launching his own clothing line and promoting his tattoo-inspired artwork. Dez Fafara's contributions to the metal and rock genres, both as the frontman of COAL CHAMBER and DEVILDRIVER, have made him an influential figure in the music industry. His powerful and emotive vocal style, combined with his ability to connect with audiences through raw and honest lyrics, have garnered him a dedicated fan base worldwide. Fafara's relentless passion for music and his unwavering commitment to his craft continue to drive his artistic journey, cementing his status as a prominent figure in the metal community. On this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast, Fafara discusses his upcoming autobiography, DEVILDRIVER's latest album "Dealing With Demons Vol. 2", the upcoming tour with CRADLE OF FILTH and the reuniting of COAL CHAMBER.
