My guest today is Holly Rogoschewsky. Holly Rose Holland is an intuitive author, growth transition coach, international speaker, former spouse, parent, and grief survivor. While moving through the grief process herself, she noticed that people often become stuck when processing death, difficult relationships, employment-related issues, and even changes within themselves. “With grief, it is rare when someone knows and understands the synergy of deep grief combined with the intense desire to truly live freely.” “You will learn so much about yourself as an author.” Holly's first book is called Keep Moving, Creating a Life After Loss (2020, Sapphire Seahorse Press). Having always loved writing, she finds writing to be therapeutic for herself and others, as a means of expressing grief and creating a new life. Holly was surprised when writing activated the awareness of everything being energy. She practises writing, wellness, and woo, and travels to share her gifts with the world. Her first international best-seller is Unstoppable Stories (2024, MMH Press) and it joins best-sellers Hear Us Roar, Lion (2024, KMD Books) and The Business of Connection (2020, ENE). Holly's novel on domestic violence is being edited, publication date to be announced. Her children's book is progressing. This story has been waiting to be told since Holly's childhood. Holly is passionate about raising awareness of domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of mindset, knowledge and boundaries. In this episode we discuss grief, loss, writing and resilience.Website - https://hollyroseholland.comIG - https://www.instagram.com/hollyhollandauthor/FB- https://www.facebook.com/holly.hollandrogoschewskyLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/holly-holland-90a68451In this episode you will learn:1. The importance of open and honest conversations when it comes to grief.2.Why it's important to use memories as a source of strength.3. Some tools and strategies to help you cope with grief. “A lot of times people will be like, just what do you do when people are grieving? And I think the most important thing is to be there for them. to be the same as you always have been.” - 00:04:47“The reality of grief is you don't always move forward. You know, because you're moving ahead, you're moving back, sometimes you're moving sideways." 00:37:05“Life is short. Live with no regrets. Say exactly what you mean. Don't worry about the finish.” 00:55:18

After losing both her job as a reporter and her boyfriend in the same day, she retreats to Chicago and moves in with Helen, her over-protective mother. Before long, the two are clashing over everything from pro-choice to #MeToo, not to mention Helen's run for U.S. Congress, which puts Megan's career on hold until after the election. Desperate to reboot her life, Megan gets her chance when an altercation at a campus rally brings her face-to-face with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jocelyn Jones, who offers her a job on her PR team. Before long, Megan is pulled into the heady world of fame and glamour her charismatic new mentor represents. Until an anonymous tweet brings it all crashing down. To salvage Jocelyn's reputation, Megan must locate the online troll and expose the lies. But when the trail leads to blackmail, and circles back to her own mother, Megan realizes if she pulls any harder on this thread, what should have been the scoop of her career could unravel into a tabloid nightmare. Readers who love Jodi Picoult's topical plot twists and Liane Moriarty's character-driven novels will devour this fast-paced tale of three women whose lives converge as one fights a devastating accusation, another campaigns for a contested seat in Congress, and one, the young reporter with ties to both, navigates the tricky line between secrets and lies. ABOUT MAGGIE SMITH Maggie Smith, former psychologist and later CEO of a national art consulting company, lives in Wisconsin and is the host of the weekly podcast Hear Us Roar (available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google) where she interviews debut women's fiction authors about their novel and their path to publication. Our guest this week is author and podcaster, Maggie Smith. Maggie's second act in her professional life is as a novelist. She spent over 25 years running a business but when it began to feel boring and she needed to use her creativity, she attended a writer's workshop where the instructor asked everyone to write down something they could never write about; Maggie wrote about mother daughter relationships. This idea transformed itself into a novel about where mothers/ daughters/ and mentors intersect titled Truth and Other Lies. One of the thematic ideas of the book is how important heroes are—they inspire us and make us feel a sense of empowerment. But sometimes we move into hero worship, where we fail to see that our heroes sometimes have big glaring unbelievably unethical behaviors that we could see if we opened our eyes. Of course, the blindness that keeps us from seeing the truth about our heroes is similar to the blindness that keeps us from seeing our mothers, or parents in general, in a favorable light. The novel covers a lot of ground in a fast-paced story. You can find Maggie on instagram at @maggiesmithwrites and at her author website www.maggiesmithwriter.com. Our guest this week is the person that generally hosts this podcast Maggie Smith (Truth and Other Lies, Ten16 Press, March 2022) and she's interviewed by book editor and women's fiction author Tiffany Yates Martin, WFWA 2021 Scribe.  Hear Maggie's story of how her book went through various iterations before she found a plot which could highlight the relationship between a daughter, her mother, and her mentor; how she had to pivot when her first publisher went bankrupt; and what an author needs to be prepared to do if they want to make a smash with their debut's launch. In a career that's included work as a journalist, a psychologist, and the founder of a national art consulting company, Maggie Smith now adds novelist to her resume with the publication of her debut, Truth and Other Lies.  In addition to her writing, Maggie hosts the weekly podcast Hear Us Roar, where she interviews debut authors about their novel and their path to publication and blogs monthly for Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. A board member of the Chicago Writer's Association, she's Managing Editor of their Write City Magazine, and coordinator of Book Nook, which highlights Chicago-area independent bookstores. She resides in Milwaukee WI with her husband and her aging but still adorable sheltie. To learn more about Maggie, click here.

“Listen to my voice, don't look at me. It's what got me in the door, but also what never sealed the deal.” Sara Baiyu Porritt is multi-hyphenate. She's the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at Omnicom Media Group - but she's also a recovering pop star - a former R&B songstress-turned-Yogi who may or may not be becoming a podcasting mogul. Born in the rural tropics of China (Xiamen), Sara came to America a little girl - and fell in love with the soul of 90s R&B - Mariah, Whitney, Joel Scott, Floetry, and more - so much so that she started singing, answered a Craigslist ad, dropped outta highschool (twice!), and formed an (Asian) girl group. Several hair dos (and don'ts) later, Sara was recording with some of the biggest names, releasing albums, starring on the CW, onstage with Wyclef, and VJ'ing on MTVu. But as the music and media landscape was changing - Sara also found herself on the inside helping make waves for brands and artists alike. Beyond her DEI day-job, Sara now hosts the podcast “Hear Us Roar” - sharing stories of fearless Asian women traversing the road not taken, showing us all how ideas and passions can ignite transformative journeys. But she's somehow still afraid of butterflies... Michelle Lee is the powerhouse Editor-in-Chief of Allure—an iconic magazine that in 2021, celebrated its 30th birthday.  Since taking on her position, Michelle has eliminated the term anti-aging from the magazine’s vocabulary and has redefined beauty through the lens of diversity. In one single issue, Michelle broke the record for the number of American American faces that have graced the cover of Allure since its inception. She’s incredibly thoughtful and intentional in the direction she’s taking the magazine, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that as someone who didn’t grow up seeing myself reflected in media. Tune in to understand why Michelle feels like your uniqueness is an asset, and how to find the confidence to be exactly who you are.  We connect on the importance of self-promotion, and of course, I had to ask Michelle about her holy grail beauty products.   Head over to https://www.allure.com/ to learn about and support this culture shaping publication.
