Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Rock and Roll Legend, Felix Cavaliere, Founding Member, “The Rascals” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Felix Cavaliere, is a legendary musician and singer-songwriter whose illustrious 5-decade career began as a backup musician for Joey Dee and the Starliters, but very quickly evolved into the creation of one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time:  The Rascals.   His pioneering musicianship on the keys of the Hammond B-3 electric organ, together with his rich, powerful R & B vocals gave the Rascals their signature sound, which was pure magic, in a long string of hits including “Good Lovin”, “I've Been Lonely Too Long”, “Groovin”, “How Can I Be Sure”, “A Girl Like You”, “A Beautiful Morning”, and “People Got to be Free”.  Our guest, together with his bandmates Dino Danelli, Eddie Brigati and Gene Cornish – better known as The Rascals - are widely considered to be the very first REAL Rock & Roll band, and they were without question the best “blue eyed soul” group to emerge in the 60's.    Their song “Good Lovin”, originally recorded by “The Olympics”, is listed by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as one of the top 500 songs that shaped Rock & Roll.  And Rolling Stone included it on their list of the Greatest Songs of All Time.  And the song “Groovin” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.  Since the Rascals broke up in 1972, our guest has had a hugely successful solo career, with 7 albums including his self-titled album “Felix Cavaliere”, “Destiny”, “Treasure”, “Castles in the Air”, “Dreams in Motion”, “Nudge it up a Notch”, which got a Grammy nomination, and “Midnight Flyer”.   He continues to perform across the country and around the world for sell-out crowds with his band “Felix Cavaliere's Rascals”.  And last year, he released a highly compelling, deeply personal and very moving book entitled, “Memoir of a Rascal”, which is truly one of the most poignant and spiritually uplifting memoirs I've ever read.  The list of accolades this man has received is staggering.   As a member of the Rascals, he's been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,  the Hit Parade Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.   And as an individual, he's also been inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Hammond Organ Hall of Fame.  And of equal importance, in 2015 he received the Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award from the World Hunger Association, in recognition of his well-known efforts to make the world better, kinder and more generous.   For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://www.felixcavalieremusic.com/https://www.facebook.com/felixcavalieresrascals/https://twitter.com/FelixCavalierehttps://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/felix-cavaliere/id1156746https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvLNn2Gwu8mJaWWvjScjR6w #FelixCavaliere   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

The responses to a wide range of topics ranging from Super Bowl commercials to Parkwood's stance on God's Sovereignty and Human Responsibility will surely challenge you to a deeper understanding of your faith and ultimate satisfaction in the Lord._____________________________Resources from the EpisodeBooks:How Can I Be Sure I am a Christian // Donald WhitneyThe Pursuit of God // A.W. Tozer_____________________________Show Notes:SUMMARY The conversation starts with discussing the affections a Christian should have towards God, such as thirsting for Him, being satisfied in Him, and clinging to Him. The conversation then moves on to answer the question of how to know if one is saved. The answer is not based on one's feelings, but on the truth of Scripture. The book of 1 John is recommended to help people understand the truth of being a Christian. This book tells us that we can know if we are a Christian if we understand our need of a savior, our sin, and our love for other believers. The conversation discussed how people can be sure that they are saved and how to know what books of the Bible talk about becoming a Christian. It was mentioned that reading the Gospel of John and the book of Romans can help with understanding what a Christian is. Donald Whitney's book, How Can I Be Sure that I'm a Christian?, was also discussed as it is a great source to understand the doctrine of assurance of salvation. The idea that assurance of salvation rests primarily on the character of God, the work of Jesus Christ, and the truth of God's promises was highlighted.Pastor Scott shared his experience of recommending a book called Assurance of Salvation by John MacArthur to a couple who were struggling with their faith. He emphasized that it's important to base our salvation on what the Scripture teaches, not on our own experiences. He then recommended another book, The Pursuit of God by AW Tozer, which has been very influential to him. Tozer argued that sound Bible exposition is an imperative in the Church of the Living God, and that it is not mere words that nourish the soul, but God himself. Pastor Scott warned readers of The Pursuit of God to be careful of interpreting Chapter 6 too literally, as Tozer was not arguing for just taking a walk and hearing the voice of God, but rather immersing ourselves in the Word of God and hearing God speak through it. He encouraged readers to find someone else to read the book with and challenge each other.

THE RASCALS were the pinnacle of '60s blue-eyed soul. It's been said that they were the first rock band in the world. Led by FELIX CAVALIERE, the band drew much of its inspiration from British Invasion bands, psychedelic rock, gospel, and even a bit of jazz and Latin music. They were at their best on classic singles like "Good Lovin'," "How Can I Be Sure," "Groovin'," and "People Got to Be Free." This week my special guest is keyboardist/singer Felix Cavaliere who shares tales of his musical journey. Felix talks about starting out with Joey Dee and the Starlighters, how the Beatles opened the door for musicians to write their own songs and about his and George Harrison's involvement with gurus who kept them grounded. It's a fascinating story that highlights the fact that while others in his profession became synonymous with sex, drugs and anything goes, Felix Cavaliere reached the highest peaks on a message of peace, love and understanding. This songwriter could have been made for A Breath of Fresh Air … he promises to make you feel great. The Rascals are on the move! He and fellow Rascal Gene Cornish are hitting the road to share some more ‘Good Lovin' on 'The Rascals Time Peace Tour 2022'. Gene fell ill during past concert and has since had a pacemaker put in, but he's good to go.  Felix Cavaliere calls Nashville home now, but people in my ‘hood' near Pelham, NY have always loved to claim him as their hometown rock n' roll hero. In fact, he just wrote a book about it all. “Felix Cavaliere Memoir of a Rascal From Pelham, NY To The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame”. Do people recognize him? Felix says sometimes, but because the Rascals were around before MTV they didn't have the kind of visual exposure that helped promote so many other groups to make them recognizable beyod their music. Speaking of being recognized or not, Felix chuckles while telling the story about his dear friend Billy Joel who he was with at his concert in Nashville. When Billy Joel looked up at himself on the giant TV monitors on the wall, he turned to Felix and said, "Whos That?" "My Father?" Felix laughs when he shares that story as he make the point, "Sometimes I too don't recognize myself".   I asked Felix if the songs we know so well and still enjoy today are kinda like his children? Yes he said, they are.  Songs like Good Lovin', Groovin', It's A Beautiul Morning, I've Been Lonely Too Long, How Can I Be Sure, A Girl Like You, and People Got To Be Free. The Rascals are considered the best 'blue-eyed soul' group to come out of the 60's, as well as one of the groups with the most record sales. Their message has always been to stand for Peace, Love and Happiness. Felix says, as a musician, when people hear your music and it brings them joy, that joy translates back to you. Especially live on stage. Upon leaving Syracuse University to form the Escorts, and become a backup musician for Joey Dee and the Starliters and later Sandy Scott, who knew that his legendary next stop would be the beginning of an illustrious hall of fame career. Early in 1965, he formed the ‘Young Rascals' with Dino Danelli, Eddie Brigati, and Gene Cornish. That October, they caught the attention of promoter/manager Sid Bernstein with their high-energy set at Long Island's elite club, Barge. Signed to Atlantic Records, and now called The Rascals, the mega hit “Good Lovin'” struck No. 1 in February 1966. They followed suit with a string of hits like “I've Been Lonely Too Long,” “Groovin'(No. 1 in 1967), “How Can I Be Sure,” “A Girl Like You,” “A Beautiful Morning,” and “People Got to Be Free” (No. 1 in 1968). The Rascals are considered the best ‘blue-eyed soul' group to come out of the 1960s, as well as one of the groups with the most record sales. By the early 70s, The Rascals experimented with more jazz-influenced sounds, and moved to Columbia Records. The Rascals disbanded in 1972. Felix Cavaliere's solo career thrived during this decade. He released his self-titled debut album with Todd Rundgren at the producer helm. His follow-up albums were Destiny (1974), Castles in the Air (1979) (Castle in the Air produced another Top 40 hit – “Only a Heart Sees” reached No. 2), Dreams in Motion (1994) and in 2008 he collaborated with Stax guitar legend, Steve Cropper, on the Grammy-nominated Nudge it Up a Notch and again in 2010 with Midnight Flyer. Legendary singer-songwriter and producer Felix Cavaliere formed The Young Rascals in 1965 and enjoyed a string of hits including Groovin', Good Lovin' and A Beautiful Morning – music which became the soundtrack for millions of lives. Born in Pelham, New York, his father wanted him to be a doctor; his mother wanted him to be a classical pianist. He once said: “music heals, so maybe that's what I should do". Felix was a member of Joey Dee and the Starliters, best known for their hit Peppermint Twist, before he formed his own group, which later changed their name to The Rascals. They went on to land a number of accolades including 10 top 20 singles, 4 number one hits, six top 20 albums, a Grammy nomination and four Hall of Fame inductions. David recorded two of his songs, How Can I Be Sure, a top 4 hit in the United States for The Young Rascals and a number one triumph for David in the United Kingdom, and Lonely Too Long. David's recordings coincided with the acquisition by his then-producer Wes Farrell of the entire Rascals' song catalogue. From his home in Nashville, Felix talks to me about how The Beatles were his inspiration; shares his observations of the pressures of stardom; the responsibility songwriters have; David's interpretation of his work and why more people should be aware of David's talent.

Cream was the original rock supergroup. Drummer Ginger Baker, Bassist Jack Bruce, and guitarist Eric Clapton were already recognized for their individual talent, and the name of the group would reflect their status as “the cream of the crop.” DIsraeli Gears is their second studio album, and was the album that would propel them to fame in the United States.Cream was considered not only a supergroup, but was a proto-progressive band, a jam band, and perhaps an early heavy metal band due to their penchant for recording at high volume. The group was formed by Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton wanted Jack Bruce to join. Surprisingly, Bruce was invited to join. Baker had fought with Bruce and thrown him out of an earlier band, but they decided to try to work together. They made it as a group for four albums before egos and disagreements would drive them apart. We hope you enjoy this exploration of the psychedelic rock of Cream. Sunshine of My LoveThis song was written at sunrise, and has one of the most famous starting riffs in the rock genre. This was the second single of the album, and is dedicated to Jimi Hendrix.Strange BrewThis was the first single from the album, and hearkens back to the blues style that Clapton played in The Yardbirds.SWLABRThe song is an acronym: She Was Like a Bearded Rainbow," and is a psychedelic song. It was the B-side for "Sunshine of My Love."Tales of Brave UlyssesAnother psychedelic track, this was co-written by Eric Clapton and Martin Sharp, who drew the cover art for the album. It hearkens to the mythology of Odysseus, also known as Ulysses ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:“Magical Mystery Tour” by The BeatlesThe Beatles produced a movie that accompanied the album of the same name, and it was a hit on the charts in 1967. STAFF PICKS:“Soul Man” by Sam and DaveBruce's presents a tune from “The Sultans of Sweat.” Sam and Dave met in Miami when both were performing on the gospel circuit. This song was written by Isaac Hayes and David Porter. This is their biggest hit, their first gold record, and led to the name of this genre, “Soul Music.”“Georgia Pines” by The CandymenRob brings us a song by the group that began as the back-up band for Roy Orbison. They started out in Dothan, Alabama as “The Webs,” but changed their name when they landed the gig with Orbison. After their breakup, their front man would join a little session band in Atlanta known as “the Atlanta Rhythm Section.”“How Can I Be Sure” by The Young RascalsBrian's staff pick is the second hit by the Yong Rascals, following up for "Groovin'". Many would cover this song, including David Cassidy and Dusty Springfield in the 70's.“Let It Out” by The HombresWayne's staff pick was the #12 hit in November 1967. With its distinctive spoken lyrics, this song by the one-hit wonder, “The Hombres” would be covered by several bands as well. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:"Maroc 7" by The ShadowsThis surf-style instrumental takes us out for the week.

Dusty tog gruppens navn som sit eget, og i 1963 bragede hun igennem i både Europa og USA med ‘I Only Want to Be With You'. Playliste:1.
