“I wonder what sort of tale we have fallen into” Frodo Baggins For the last five years we bumped into each other on the way to work or while walking our dogs. There was always the friendly "hi, how are you", nothing more. Recently we invited them over for a meal. The following Monday Sherresa & I happened to be going to work at the same time, and when she saw me, her face lit up and she came over and gave me a hug…What had changed? Developing friendships… discovering stories... sharing life! It's what a lonely world is longing for. Would you join me on the porch and stay a while? I can't hammer a nail, but I can build a porch… and so can you! Now that's an epic tale!

With the single “I Only Want to Be with You” (1963), Springfield went solo and made her way into the heart of “Swinging London.” Part cartoon, part unresolvable desire, part bruised despair, she peered through heavy mascara and a stack of peroxided hair while singing with breathy sensuality. Bringing a fragile uncertainty to her cover versions of songs by Burt Bacharach and Hal David that had been hits in the United States for Dionne Warwick, Springfield had a string of British hits. The commercial high point of her career, though, was the ballad “You Don't Have to Say You Love Me” (1966), which topped the British singles chart and reached number four in the United States. In the late 1960s Springfield began to take herself seriously as a soul diva. In 1965 she hosted a television special that promoted Motown artists, including the Supremes and Martha and the Vandellas, to British audiences, and she often performed American rhythm-and-blues songs in her own subsequent TV appearances. She signed with Atlantic Records in 1968 and cut her Dusty in Memphis (1969) album in the famed American Sound Studios with producers Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin. The album brought her critical acclaim and an international hit with “Son of a Preacher Man.”Springfield continued to record into the 1970s, but her career was derailed by poor management and struggles with drugs and alcohol. By the middle of the decade, she was working as a session singer in Los Angeles. Repeated comeback attempts failed until she teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys on the single “What Have I Done to Deserve This?” (1987); after it became a hit, the duo wrote and produced other songs for her that were included on her album Reputation (1990). By the 1990s Springfield had become a camp icon. After she resettled in England, she battled cancer and in 1998 received the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire). She was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Episode Notes Hyatt unveiled its newest brand, Hyatt Studios, on Tuesday, becoming the latest hotel company to launch an extended stay brand, reports Senior Hospitality Editor Sean O'Neill. Hyatt expects to open its first Hyatt Studios hotels next year. O'Neill writes Hyatt's entry into extended stay is part of a boom in the category, with Marriott and Wyndham having launched extended stay brands recently. Extended stay projects represent roughly a third of the construction pipeline for U.S. hotels, according to hotel industry consulting firm Lodging Econometrics. Next, Delta Air Lines has increased its market share in key markets such as Boston, New York, and Seattle this year compared to 2019 levels. But the company still needs its core hubs to fully recover, reports Edward Russell, editor of Airline Weekly, a Skift publication. Russell writes the recovery of Delta's core hubs — including Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis-Saint Paul — was delayed amid operational challenges that forced the airline to fly less than it hoped last year. Delta President Glen Hauenstein said the company's hubs fuel its profits. Russell adds that Delta needs its hubs to rebound to help it hit its financial targets, one of which is recovering to pre-Covid operation margin levels in 2024. Finally, online travel agency Hopper's feature enabling customers to leave a tip as part of a reservation has been getting a lot of buzz recently, writes Travel Technology Reporter Justin Dawes. Hopper actually made the tip an optional fee in 2018, three years after the company implemented a mandatory fee in its reservations. Dawes reports the amount of the tip is either a flat fee or a percentage of the reservation. A Hopper spokesperson recently said many customers are willing to pay a small fee to thank the company for its service, so kept the tip feature. The spokesperson added that the optional tip is a way for users to acknowledge the value of its price prediction and flight-watch tools. The company offers those features for free.

Perhaps they beckon to you as well to come, stay awhile. This from Mary Oliver:"When I am among the trees, they give off such hints of gladness.I would almost say that they save me, and daily.I am so distant from the hope of myself,in which I have goodness, and discernment, and never hurry through the worldbut walk slowly, and bow often.Around me the trees stir in their leavesand call out, “Stay awhile.”The light flows from their branches. And they call again, “It's simple,” they say,“You too have come into the world to do this,to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine." [Mary Oliver, poet]Question: Where do you go to be filled with light and to shine? You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! Yes, digital nomads stay in one place for some time. Many professionals and employees have realized that the newly implemented remote and flexible work policies have allowed them to work free from the anchor of a company office or workspace. This has given birth to far more remote workers and digital nomads seeking freedom of movement while still building a career. Of course, stable internet connection, distraction-free working spaces, and access to necessities are a must. This is where Mark Phillips of Nomad Stays is an expert.Mark joins our hosts, Andrew Jernigan and Allen Koski in this episode of The New Nomad. They talked about how important accommodation is for the laptop-wielding workers and what are the things to look out for when finding a place to stay. They discussed their adventures as nomads themselves and their experiences in countries budding as digital nomad destinations. This episode entertains and educates listeners about the expectations in the digital nomad lifestyle. So be ready with your note-taking skills as the information they share is as valuable as gold.TIMESTAMPS:[6:13] The life of a lifestyle traveler[12:01] The world opens up to digital nomads[16:23] Reading versus experiencing a place[20:06] Get work done in coworking spaces[22:36] Fun and friendly, the Australian way[25:11] Seeing a familiar place through a different set of eyesGUEST BIO:Serial Entrepreneur. A conversation on systemic ableism. What if we told you the mainstream conception of the Autistic experience is not accurate? What if we told you that these misconceptions pose genuine material danger for our Autistic community members? Terra Vance and Kate Jones of NeuroClastic are here to lead the conversation surrounding law enforcement and Autism. Today we're discussing the School to Prison Pipeline, clearing the air on common Autistic behavior patterns, and conceptualizing a future that honors the differences of Autistic people. Get ready to take a critical lens to The Deficit Model, and celebrate the Autistic mind with this collaboration! Autistic liberation is the future. Are you listening? ### As promised, here's the rundown of the case of a man named Matthew Rushin, Matthew Rushin is a young Black man from Virginia Beach. Matthew is Autistic. In 2019, Matthew was in a car accident, that severely wounded others. Police swarmed Matthew and deemed him guilty of intentional harm. To them, it appeared that Matthew was attempting to take his own life with no regard for others. This was not the case. In reality, Matthew experienced an autistic meltdown, emerging research likens these meltdowns to that of a seizure, rather than a Non-Autistic bout of distress. As you may imagine, a serious car accident is not a safe place, neurologically, for an Autistic individual. Like in many cases, Matthew was offered a plea deal, i.e."Plead guilty, and we'll have mercy on you." The negotiation tactics involved rely heavily on, what some may call, "reading between the lines"-- something that is not apart of the Autistic experience. His loved ones believe he was intentionally mislead for the sake of winning a conviction. Matthew just wanted to return home to his mother and sisters, so he accepted the deal. Matthew was sentenced to 50 years, 40 years suspended, 10 to serve. In November of 2020, Governor Northam granted Matthew Rushin a condition pardon. Matthew returned home with the help of his post conviction attorney Miriam-Airington Fisher, with the guidance of Terra Vance, and Sen. McClellan's push for SB 1315 (now a law decriminalizing Autistic behavior). Matthew deserves an absolute pardon and his support network have not stopped trying to get him the justice he deserves. Hey! Welcome to Shit I'm 22, a place where I'll be talking about how gross it is to age and all that goes with it. My names Sarah, and as someone born in 1999 (so I'm technically a Gen z) there isn't a lot of content out there I identify with. Millennials think we're 12 and the Charlies of the world think we're millennials… Living in a never ending loop of imposter syndrome sucks so I'm here to bitch about it.
