Mindfulness has been a buzzword for the past few years and the number of people practicing in the US has tripled in the past decade, but so many don’t know the real principles behind it. It’s more than simply calming the mind, it involves self-love, forgiveness, compassion, authenticity, and perspective. After climbing the corporate ladder for nearly a decade, Nina left her flourishing career to take a year sabbatical. She moved to California to unplug and continue her pursuit for happiness while living in an ashram. It was at a peak point of stress sparked by the corporate grind that she took this drastic step to change her life. The outward move allowed Nina to look deeper inward. She wanted to see if there was a way to take ancient wisdom and apply it to modern day stressors and this lead her to an international bestselling book and the founding of Pure Minds. She runs mindfulness and meditation workshops for the public and corporate sector and in this episode, Nina gives us realistic and approachable tools to begin to let that sh*t go and calm our minds. In this episode we discuss: Nina's journey to writing, Let That Sh*t Go, and how her personal life impacted writing the book and starting a business focused on mindfulness. As a critical time to understand what is swirling around in our minds, Nina helps us understand how to begin tackling mindfulness in an approachable way. How we can all learn to let go of what we can’t control using mindfulness tactics. One small way everyone listening can begin to ‘let that sh*t go’ starting today. How members of the BIPOC or LGBTQ2+ community can find their voice and remain authentic in a world where there’s been so much oppression. How Nina practices wellness without obsession. THE REAL ESTATE SESSIONS PODCAST Episode 280: Host: BILL RISSER Guest: NINA FABBRI Episode Summary: Our guest today is Nina Fabbri, Director of the Business Partnership Group with HomeServices of America. Her role involves putting together the right partnerships in the Real Estate space to bring the most value to agents in the HomeServices of America. In this episode, I sit with Nina, based in Miami, Florida but originally from Nicaragua. She describes her experiences starting in Real Estate and shares an overview of her work so far. Top Takeaways: "I didn't realize until years later what they meant was it's the country of opportunity, right? You come here, and you start from nothing, and it's up to you. You can be whoever you want in the United States." - [Nina Fabbri] "There are lots of agents who say, 'How do I get into the Luxury market?', and a lot of times, it is right place right time." - [Bill Risser] "I think it's important to recognize the opportunities and not be afraid to take that plunge." - [Nina Fabbri] "You need to find a niche and fill it in order to be successful in Real Estate." - [Nina Fabbri] "We're at a crossroads within the Real Estate industry, right? With technology companies coming in and changing the way that the consumer buys homes." - [Nina Fabbri] "I feel like people are so focused on the next client that they don't focus on the current client." - [Nina Fabbri] "I'm a giver, just by nature, and I love to help people." - [Nina Fabbri] "Getting into the Real Estate industry at first is hard, but it's the hard that makes you great." - [Nina Fabbri] Episode Highlights: [00:30] Intro [01:12] Introducing our guest on today's episode, Nina Fabbri. [02:10] Nina narrates how she moved to Miami. [06:28] About Miami, Florida, and the popular misconceptions people hold. [07:40] Fisher Island Miami; A millionaire playground. [26:36] What one piece of advice would you give a new agent just getting started in the business? [27:20] How to contact Nina [28:02] Outro Episode Notes: Although born in Nicaragua, Nina narrates the events that led to her finally moving to Miami, Florida, following the unrest in her place of birth that forced them out. One of the biggest misconceptions held about Miami is that Miami is dangerous. To an extent, the impression created by the violence in the TV series "Miami Vice" may be responsible for this perception. Nina is part of a community called "Fisher Island," a private island in Miami only accessible by ferry or private yacht. With the membership of the private club of the island at $250,000 per annum, the island is inhabited by high net worth individuals. Also within the island is a golf course, private beach, Spa, tennis court, and other facilities. Like many others who work in Real Estate, the profession was not the initial choice for Nina. After graduating with a business degree, she started law school with plans to work full time and got introduced to a team that was working on Fisher Island at the time. The team needed help with the legal side of their work, which was her main focus till she developed a love for Real Estate in the process and joined them. Emphasizing the importance of recognizing opportunities, Nina explains she had plans for cyber law but saw the chance that came her way, even though it was in Real Estate instead. She became a partner, and the name of the company changed to "Ocean Insiders." Another opportunity she...

Nina Aouilk; communicator, speaker, author, and life coach. Today’s Episode Summary: Today’s guest, Nina Aouilk, is the true definition of a strong woman. She was born in a family where gender-based discrimination was at its max. Her birth as a girl child was a stigma for her family so they kept abusing her physically, mentally, and even sexually. Not only in her childhood but abuse followed her throughout her life. At the age of 14, her drunk father along with his friends raped her in her own house. She was raped several times and ended up becoming pregnant at the age of 15. After the abortion, she tried to take her life considering it "not worth living" but she survived. At the age of 16, she was forced into an arranged marriage with a boy who was the son of one of the men who raped her. After marriage, she fought for 4 years with her father-in-law who was constantly trying to rape her again. At the age of 21, she escaped back to her parent’s home thinking it was a good move to get away from an abusive life. But her family beat her up on her return, because in their culture “if you leave your marital home, you bring shame upon your family”. Her parents planned to kill her in the name of honor but she escaped from her home and saved her life. After that, she started living with a person who offered her a place to live and ended up becoming pregnant with his child. The story of her abuse was not over yet. Her partner was also abusive and as a result of domestic violence, she lost her second child. Later on, she had 2 more kids and his partner kept abusing her and kept trying several times to murder her but she saved her life every time. She was not vocal about this abuse because she grew up seeing nothing but abuse and when you start your life from a point like that it becomes very hard to feel confident in your own being to stand against something like this. Anyhow, keeping the abusive environment in perspective, she sent her elder child to a boarding school while the younger one was staying with her. With the growing violence at home, her younger child attracted a disease due to depression and ended up becoming hospitalized. One day when her partner tried to kill her, by setting the whole house on fire, her elder son saved her life and they ran away from their home forever. After ending 23 years of an abusive relationship, homeless, Nina struggled a lot to keep her children’s life going. She didn’t want to be hurt anymore and she didn’t want to give up. So, she did multiple cleaning jobs at a time and completely dedicated her life to make her children’s life better. With her belief that there is still something bigger and better out there and life will be better one day, she kept going with perseverance. Finally, she freed herself from limiting beliefs and achieved a good life for herself and her children. Now she is living her life on her own terms and with a purpose and a mission. She coaches other people to see meaning and purpose in their life. Her objective is to reach as many people as she can, who are feeling lost in life, to liberate them from shackles that are stopping them to be happy and successful in life. Nina’s story is worth listening to. So, tune in and listen to the story of Nina in her own words in detail. We are excited today to have Nina Teicholz joining us as our guest. Nina is a science journalist and the author of the New York Times bestseller, The Big Fat Surprise, which upended the conventional wisdom on dietary fat, especially saturated fat, and spurred a new conversation about whether these fats cause heart disease. Named a “Best Book” of the year by the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, and Mother Jones, among others, it continues to be called a must-read for anyone seeking to understand the amazing story of how we came to believe fat is bad for health and what a better diet might look like. Nina is also the founder of the Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit that works to ensure that government nutrition policy is transparent and evidence-based. It is work for which she has been asked to testify before the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Senate. Nina is a graduate of Stanford and Oxford Universities and previously served as associate director of the Center for Globalization and Sustainable Development at Columbia University. Nina lives in New York City with her husband and two sons. As a journalist in the early 2000s, while Nina was doing a series of investigative pieces for Gourmet Magazine, they assigned her a magazine story to look into trans-fats. Although she had no idea what trans-fats were at the time, she took the piece on, and interviewed people about trans-fats. What surprised her was that when she started talking to research scientists, she discovered that as early as the 1970s, people had already started talking about the potential dangers of trans-fats. Nina was told about the researcher’s experiences of attempts to get their research suppressed or of people yelling at them and trying to intimidate them off the stage when they spoke about their findings at meetings. Be sure to stay tuned today to hear Nina’s story and learn about the science and politics of saturated fats, the dangers of vegetable oils, and the history of how we came to believe that fat is bad for health. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Nina explains how she became interested in determining how the paradigm shifted in the 1950s regarding the quality of fats recommended to the nation. Nina talks about the politics of science. The theme that inspired Nina to write her New York Times bestselling book, The Big Fat Surprise. The profound and tragic influence that Ancel Keys had on our nation, the food industry, and people’s health. The tipping point that occurred when the food giants and the processed food industry started getting involved in some of the private organizations, like the American Heart Association, who before that time, used to be far more objective. The conflict of interest that exists with institutions like the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. The challenges related to the shifting diet paradigm. Why nutrition has become so politicized over time. Nina talks about the struggles she has had as a journalist, and with the group that she founded, in trying to have some influence over the dietary guidelines. The cognitive dissonance around people not being willing to entertain the possibility that they should question dogma. The criticism and hostility leveled at Nina for her alternative viewpoint in the work she does. The importance of the US Dietary Guidelines, and what went wrong with them. How Nina’s research has impacted what she eats. In this episode, Nina talks about how her passion for art and creativity led her into the world of fashion and beauty. Armed with talent and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Nina launched her own brand, The Mink Lashes, and wants to inspire other women to be fearless with their approach to beauty. Alongside Nina is her husband, Bobby who is the operational backbone of the brand. Bobby talks about why he decided to switch gears in his successful banking career and support his wife’s dream to build an international beauty empire. Things we discuss: How Nina got inspired with photoshoots at a very young age How she started her journey with Estee Lauder and learned the basics of business Learning the signature style of each makeup brand How she built her own experience by breaking the norm Standing out from her competitors by offering additional services How technology has made it so easy for people to put across their talent Thinking about developing the business in a way that it doesn’t solely depend on her presence How Bobby helped her understand the business operations on a whole new level Being encouraged by Bobby to take risks and have faith Learning to work together as a pair Being genuine as an influencer The importance of finding the right mentor Notable Moments: 20:24 - I’ll be honest. I didn't think to myself that this when I was freelancing, that it is just something on the side for me. I knew that I wanted to be huge. I wanted to make sure that this business is a success. And I wanted to be a lot more business savvy compared to my competitors who were out there. That was always in my mind. 27:00 - You can't continue doing business in a way where you are not making the money. Ultimately you’re in for business, not for fun. There is a bottom line that you need to look in as well. 45:00 - I had a very strong business core DNA into me from a very young age. Because I was working in a bank, I was not able to utilize the experience that I had because I was working for someone else. 57:00 - I don't think it's often that you’ll find a husband and wife able to work with each other. I have to say, we do that pretty well. 1:27:32 - If I have got collaborations to come through paid or through social media bookings and it's something that I genuinely don't use, and there have been many, I won't do it. Because it isn't just about the money. You have to be genuine. ------------- If you enjoyed this episode of Successful Marketing for Small Businesses in Dubai, check out the show notes on https://www.abovedigital.com/podcast/ Follow Namita Ramani: https://www.instagram.com/namitaramani/ https://www.facebook.com/ramani.namita/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/namitaramani/ https://www.youtube.com/c/namitaramani Above Digital: https://www.abovedigital.com/

At a very young age, Dr Nina Lum was exposed to how life changing a career in medicine could be. Her mother was a paediatrician in her native Cameroon, and so growing up she was familiar with the late-night knocks on their door from frantic parents with a sick child. She'd watch as her mother tended to the child, and then marvel when a few days later that child was fully back to health. Inspired by her mother's example, Nina decided to pursue medicine as a career. But with only one medical school in the whole country, Nina soon came face to face with crushing disappointment - she was not accepted into the Cameroonian medical school. Undeterred, she pursued a Plan B, and then a Plan C, and was contemplating a Plan D when she was finally accepted into medical school in the Caribbean. Nina talks about the many challenges, but also triumphs, of her journey to being 'Dr Nina'. She also talks about the big dreams she has for the future. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE How seeing her mother's work ethic inspired her to follow her dreams What inspired Nina to want to pursue a career in medicine How she had to go through Plan A, Plan B, Plan C and was thinking of going to a Plan D to pursue her dream of medical school What it was like being an immigrant going through medical school How Nina keeps balance in her life Why she felt it was important to participate in the writing of the book 'The Chronicles of Women in White Coats' The greatest lesson she learned from her mother The best advice she has ever been given How Nina hopes to impact the world What her "I am…" is EPISODE LINKS Nina on Instagram Nina on Twitter Nina's Website Dr Nina's Book ‘The Chronicles of Women in White Coats' website
It doesn’t matter your age, gender, race, or body type – 99.9% of us know what it’s like to feel ashamed of how we look or uncomfortable in our body, in one way or another. A lot of us fall into a trap of believing that when our outer appearance is EXACTLY how we’ve envisioned, THEN we’ll finally get to be happy, successful, rich, and snag a hot significant other to boot. (Logically, we know this doesn’t work. But that doesn’t stop us from doing it anyway). When you’re fixated on trying to force your body into submission, you’re not really living. It’s almost impossible to find true enjoyment in anything you do. And that’s no way to spend your life. So to help us break the cycle and get to the root of our insecurities we sat down with Nina Blagojevic, a coach who helps people release guilt and shame so that they can (finally) feel at home in their bodies. In this episode we talked about: How Nina went from feeling completely disconnected from her body to having the confidence to pose nude for an artist. Why our obsession with dieting, exercise, and making our bodies look a certain way has everything to do with a need for control. Why that need for body-control is a red herring for something deeper and more internal. How Nina let go of her need to go to the gym, and how she reframed her idea of what it means to diet and exercise. Why you don’t need to find every aspect of yourself beautiful (and still love yourself, at the same time). How to tell if you’re “out of body” – a lot of us have totally severed the connection between our minds and bodies. We talk about the signs, and how to reestablish that connection. This sounds like a super heavy episode, but in typical fashion it’s a lot lighter and more fun that you’d expect! Nina is a great friend with a fantastic take on a very loaded issue. We think you’re going to feel a LOT of relief after listening to this one. TWEET: Ep. 66: @NinaBabel - Shares Why Keeping it 100 Helps Her #Empower Others What does it mean to “keep it 100?” Nina Babel has always been a confident girl and young woman. One aspect of that is the ability she’s had to be clear on who is around her and the things they bring to every interaction. She’s been able to discern the good and bad in people and to speak straight regarding what she sees. She’s learned something about herself as well: if someone tells her she can’t do something she will be motivated to do it all the more. That’s what has propelled her to do bigger things in her life and to create a podcast where she talks with people about the most difficult or awkward subjects for the sake of unpacking the truth about life and how we all navigate the landmines. Thinking toward the next step is vital for doing your best now. Nina Babel is moving into more and more realms of influence that she never expected when she started her podcast. The simple decision to start a podcast has opened up new realms of possibility that have enabled her to see a few steps ahead that she can shoot for. She’s found that looking ahead at the possibilities is what inspires her to pivot what she’s currently doing to make it better and to become a building block for those future things. If you want to be inspired by a young woman who’s really rocking things, this episode is the kind of fuel you need. TWEET: Thinking toward the next step is vital for #DoingYourBest now @NinaBabel Connecting with someone who’s ahead of you on the path is what’s needed for success. Many entrepreneurs are so creative and visionary they can’t easily stay focused on one thing to get it done with excellence and efficiency. Nina Babel knew that about herself and made the decision to invest in her own development through hiring a coach. She can’t imagine where she would be if she hadn’t taken that important step. Her coach has helped her narrow things down, get ultra-focused, and stay on track to truly accomplish the things only she can do. Her path has accelerated rapidly as a result and on this episode, she shares her best advice for those who want to chase their dreams, so be sure you listen. The hyper focus that enables Nina to succeed wouldn’t happen without her coach. Nothing worthwhile happens by accident. It takes extreme determination and consistent movement in the same direction. But you can’t keep yourself on the right path if you’re always bouncing from one project to another without guidance or clear direction. That’s why Nina Babel suggests a coach for everyone who wants to chase their dreams. In her mind, a coach is the person who helps you see the things you can’t see on your own and will keep you accountable to doing the things to move forward toward the goals you need to be reaching.
