A bold claim in the title but defy you to disagree when you listen to this episode. Jason Phillips, Owner of The Nutritional Coaching Institute, IN3 Nutrition, and the Impact Collective, is one of the most successful coaches in the game. Jason discovered the power of nutritional coaching as a young man when he recovered from anorexia and learned that the proper application of food can save lives. He was the first one to educate the CrossFit community on the importance of post-workout supplements, and he’s since gone on to work with UFC fighters, WWE wrestlers, and fitness celebrities. These experiences have taught Jason that you don’t need a “nutrition philosophy”—all you need is a tool chest of smart nutrition coaching techniques and a system to determine what you need right now. Find out what that system and techniques are right now. Time Stamps: (2:00) Business Planning (6:20) Shoutout to Gary V (9:00) Visionary vs Tactician (12:30) Are You Good Enough? Welcome back to another episode of the T. Clark Nutrition Podcast!I am so excited for you guys to hear this one. Last week, I had the chance to interview my good friend and mentor, Jason Phillips.Over the past several years, Jason has pioneered how we look at nutrition coaching and has created success for thousands of clients throughout his career. He is the founder/CEO of iN3 Nutrition as well as the Nutritional Coaching Institute (the certification that I came up through).I knew going into this interview that it was either going to be the easiest, or the hardest, interview I've done yet. Reason being there are so many rabbit holes to go down in a conversation with Jason. We dove deep into the importance of creating clarity around what it is that you actually want, why balance is just a buzzword with little actual meaning behind it, and how you can see the long term success that you've been after. If you enjoyed the episode and were able to take value away from it, it would mean the world to me if you left a 5 star rating and review. That helps us grow on the iTunes charts and impact more people on a daily basis! Thanks for listening!Connect with me on IG: @tclarknutrition

https://youtu.be/sHrmPu93n1s When an unexpected turn of events brought native Memphian James Lancaster back home, they became the catalyst for his success as CrossFit competitor, coach, and community influencer who believes strength is built from the inside out. After three surgeries in as many years killed his professional football career, he found a new life in CrossFit- and a renewed purpose in all of the lessons acquired during his nearly three years of excruciating rehabilitation. The all-in pursuit of a dream constructed while still immobile resulted in a big win for Lancaster: in 2017 he became the only athlete from West Tennessee to qualify for the CrossFit Games Central Regional competition. He is returning again in 2018 ranked one of the top 20 out of more than 10,000 regional CrossFit athletes. As a CrossFit coach at CrossFit Hit&Run and nutrition coach with iN3 Nutrition, he guides clients with a whole-person approach wherein mind, body, and spirit are built and rebuilt so that no matter where one falls on the CrossFit spectrum, they are given the necessary tools and opportunities for growth. Lancaster is also founder and primary coach for Kings of Grit, which teaches young, incarcerated men the fundamentals of CrossFit while instilling in them the accompanying core values of relentless heart, mentorship, and grace. An avid outdoorsman, Lancaster embraces his solitude during visits to lakes and land outside the city limits which help him maintain a necessary work-life balance. You can continue being part of their stories by following both on Instagram at @_jlancaster_ and @kingsofgrit.

In this episode I interview Jason Phillips from iN3 Nutrition, who runs a thriving coaching business that is particularly popular among Crossfitters. Accordingly, Jason has worked with many Crossfit athletes, and many high-level Crossfit athletes, and has seen firsthand what a lot of extreme exercise and dieting can do to the body, and to the metabolism in particular. In short, if you push the envelope too hard for too long, you can find yourself in a situation where your energy levels and mood are chronically depressed, it’s very hard to lose weight despite eating in what SHOULD be a calorie deficit, every workout is way more of a slog than it should be, your libido is gone, your sleep is disrupted, and your life is generally a lot less enjoyable than it used to be. In this interview, Jason shares with us a bit of the Crossfit insanity that leads to severe symptoms of overtraining, as well as how he has helped people out of that rut, and we also discuss how to avoid falling into it in the first place. 8:16 - When Crossfit athletes push themselves too hard, how do you make them healthy again?10:14 - Why are some Crossfit athletes suffering from hormonal issues?11:57 - What makes you certain that your clients’ food logs are accurate?13:12 - How do the health complications of Crossfit athletes impact their body composition? 14:14 - What does the path to sanity and health look like?15:24 - How do your experiences with these athletes jive with the implications of the Minnesota Starvation Experiment?17:18 - What shape are your athletes usually in?23:08 - Why would a Crossfit athlete ever want to go on a lower carb diet?24:10 - Is the Paleo diet still popular in the Crossfit world?30:37 - Do you have any advice for normal, everyday people who are looking to get fit? 34:52 - Are there any general mistakes that everyday people can avoid? 36:42 - For the average person, what have you found has been the most effective when it comes to training and nutrition? 37:19 - Have you seen positive results with reverse dieting? 41:21 - What has your experience with an eating disorder been like? 51:10 - What keeps you going? 56:33 - Where can people find your work and reach out?
