This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to support the success of PSIA-AASI and its members. Katherine's long-term commitment and dedication to adaptive snowsports has provided educational programing and support to national initiatives. Since serving as one of the original examiners in the initial 1985 adaptive exam and writing the first PSIA-AASI adaptive manual, she has continued to demonstrate positive leadership skills and foster connections with and between members, including serving as a mentor. Congrats, Katherine!
On board the podcast today is Katherine Hayes, to talk all about insurances (how to cover your butt!). This is something not often talked about enough in the FI/RE space, so I was really glad to have an expert on board to break down the different types of insurances and what to look for. Katherine is a multi-award-winning financial advisor based in Canberra who has over 20 years industry experience, and is also the co-host of the Money Madams Podcast alongside Amber Parr. She is a business owner, mum of 3 energetic boys and before she got into financial advice she was actually a croupier working onboard sailing ships in the Caribbean! So it is fair to say, Katherine knows a bit about money (especially that the house ALWAYS wins!). I would describe Katherine as genuine, energetic, knowledgeable and passionate. Whilst we chatted for hours, we've tried to keep the episode down to a manageable chunk but it is still nearly an 1 hour 40 minutes so. I was super glad to connect with Katherine, and will definitely be asking her back onto the show to share some more of her expertise.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued guidance this past week allowing states to require Medicaid beneficiaries to work, volunteer or enter job training. Republicans argue that such work requirements for Medicaid will help get people back on their feet and in the job market and workforce. Democrats argue that work requirements are contrary to the principles of Medicaid. Katherine Hayes, health policy director for the Bipartisan Policy Center, gives a centrist perspective on the Medicaid work requirements and the growth of uninsured Americans under the Trump administration. Michael and Rick debate whether President Trump should have responded in a different way to the false alarm missile test in Hawaii over the weekend.
President Trump signed an executive order yesterday directing the federal government to stop all subsidy payments to insurance companies that are part of the Affordable Care Act. At the signing ceremony, the president beamed, saying, “This will cost the federal government virtually nothing.” According to the Congressional Budget Office, that is not the case. The CBO’s initial scorecard on President Trump’s order shows that while the government will save around $7 billion a year in CSR payments, it will cost taxpayers almost $194 billion over 10 years, including the net savings. Katherine Hayes, health policy director at the Bipartisan Policy Center, joins Michael Steele and gust co-host Rick Tyler to break down the numbers and the effect they would have on millions of Americans. Kelly Magsamen, the vice president of national security and international policy at American Progress, discusses the potential diplomatic and political impact of President Trump’s decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal.
Katherine Hayes, Director of Health Policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center, talks about the potential impact of the Senate's newly-unveiled Better Care Reconciliation Act. The guys address President Trump's recent comment about how he doesn't think poor people should advise him on the economy.
