Spirit & Life–Pat Keady–Barnabas the Encourager (Nicknames are interesting, aren't they? In Acts, Chapter 4, we meet Joseph, Levite from Cyprus who the apostles gave the nickname Barnabas, which means son of encouragement. This guy saw potential in people when everyone else couldn't, so this nickname suited him. He saw the Paul in Saul when the other apostles couldn't. The question for you and me today is, who could we be a Barnabas to? Who are we being called to take under our wing to look out for? To see someone who might have potential that's not yet fully realised. Maybe we could pray for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, who Jesus promised would be a counsellor, a helper and encourager for us to have that same spirit flowing through our lives and words, so that we can be a Barnabas to the people in our lives.)

It is always interesting to compare different farming systems across this world. This week on the podcast we have Dr Tim Keady speaking about farming in Ireland. Having recently returned from a trip to New Zealand, Tim has a great insight at how the different systems compare."We went to see the use of different technologies on-farm, with the intention of reducing labour and improving efficiency. So, we decided to go to New Zealand" says Tim. "... to look at the systems of sheep reproduction... but also to look at the types and levels of technologies that are used on farm, particularly to improve labour efficiency."Dr Tim Keady is principal sheep research scientist in the Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Teagasc Athenry and has a wealth of knowlege on the Irish sheep industry. Mark and Tim compare the different genetics, grassland management, hogget breeding and markets which are surprisingly similar in many ways. Firstly, in the last number of years in pedigree breeding genotyping is becoming more and more important in Ireland. Tim says "It's looking like there's a new scheme thats been launched this year that one of the requirements is that you have to buy a genotyped ram." A concept that has yet to reach our shores. Tim runs Mark through the Irish sheep meat markets. Much like New Zealand, Ireland exports most of it's lamb, with 70% going overseas, making it the largest net sheep meat exporter in Europe. With 2.5 million ewes, that's no mean feat. Mark and Tim discuss the breed profile of these sheep to fit both the Irish seasons but also the export market requirements.Thank you Tim for sharing your time with us. Purdue men's basketball alum Mack Gadis (1983-86) celebrates birthday No. 59 (Jan. 20, 2023) with us. The former Boilermaker guard was a two-year starter under coach Gene Keady, coming to Purdue in Keady's third recruiting class out of Indianapolis, Pike H.S. The former Indiana All-Star appeared in 94 games as a Boilermaker, starting 52, including all 32 contests his senior year, where he tallied a team-best 178 assists. He became the first Boilermaker (along with classmate Herb Robinson) to play on four NCAA Tournament teams. He was a reserve on the Boilermakers' surprising run to a Big Ten co-championship in 1984, the first of six crowns for Keady during his 25-year tenure in West Lafayette. Gadis talks about his role in the greatest comeback in Purdue basketball history, when the Boilermakers rallied from a 20-point deficit to win at Illinois in Feb. 1983. In the stunning come-from-behind win, Gadis was one of the five bench players that Keady decided to put on the court. “The best thing is that coach Keady didn't just put the starters back in when we caught Illinois,” Gadis recalled. “It was an experience I will never forget and I don't think anyone on that team will either.” Gadis has been a State Farm Insurance agent for many years and lives in the Indianapolis area with his wife and two children. His son plays basketball at Anderson College and his daughter is a senior at Noblesville (Ind.) High School.

Spirit & Life–Pat Keady–The Courage to Witness (Like the first missionary disciples in today's Gospel, Pat is thinking about the Holy Spirit giving us the courage to witness. It can be hard to tell others about our faith meaning we have to reveal something personal and being vulnerable. We often fear that we won't be able to adequately explain what and why we believe in Jesus. But, Pat says, that's why Jesus gave us the advocate, the Holy Spirit to help us to be witnesses in both our lives and our words, just like those first 72 missionary disciples)

Peter's Career from Photography to Ministry “I was drawn to photography from the journalism side, and I had a very strong interest in people.” At the time, the church was looking for someone to work inside their youth program and decided to be the youth ministry leader in 1994. This slowly became a growing passion for Peter while at the same time his photography career started to explode. While working for national magazines, Peter was called to join the ministry, went back to school for his master's degree in theology, and performed pastoral ministry for over two decades. Heeding the Call as a First-Responder Chaplain He and his wife wanted to get involved in his home township, Palmer Township and became a chaplain for the local fire department organization. “The more I worked with first-responders, the more I cared deeply about them.” Realizing firsthand the stressful work first responders do, Peter wanted to care for them in the chaplain's role. Listen in as we talk about the purpose of the First Responder Chaplain Corps, the origin and history of chaplains, and how Peter supports others in his chaplain system within the first-responder community. In today's episode, my dad joins us to chat about many things: life, parenting, college, and everything in between. I genuinely think this is the best episode to date, and although it is a bit longer, it is well worth it. website: ColinKeady.comme: https://linktr.ee/ColinKeadyshow email: colin@colinkeady.comlogo: https://bprince3003.myportfolio.com/intro: https://jx2000.hearnow.com/I am glad you're alive.
