Kelli Ellis, an expert in design psychology, star in The Design Network's Extravagant Spaces, Design Therapy, and MidMod: Then and Now, discusses her work with real estate and interior design. Kelli shares insights on staging properties for sale, emphasizing the importance of understanding buyers' emotional connections to spaces. Her advice on creating welcoming environments through color, texture, and flow, prioritizes the emotional impact of a space, over strictly following design rules. She touches on trends like biophilic design, bringing nature indoors, and provides practical tips for setting up homes for sale while allowing potential buyers to envision their own memories in the space. This episode underscores the intersection of design psychology, real estate, and creating spaces that resonate with people on a personal level. This month we interview interior designer and visual artist Kelli Ellis. Nearly a decade ago, Kelli created the Design Psychology Coaching program and co-founded Interior Design Camp and Design Campus, which aims to educate interior designers, decorators, and design lovers from around the globe. She is a regular keynote speaker and panelist at international design conferences, and is the VP of Global Industry Relations for Ronati, a technology platform dedicated to the success of art and antiques dealers worldwide. Kelli has also become a familiar face on television over the past 20 years, both in the U.S. (on HGTV, Bravo, TLC, The Design Network) as well as internationally on Hulu, RakutenTV and Apple TV.
In part 2 of our interview with international celebrity designer and design psychology expert Kelli Ellis, we discuss why and how she moved her entire life to Barcelona from California during a pandemic and dive deeper into how one can actually heal faster through design. Kelli reveals that our decor can effect our emotions and lucky for us, even shares what colors and lighting will improve our mood. And if you are having trouble decluttering, Kelli also shares a couple of tricks and exercises that will help you get rid of those old items. And lastly, we talk about how to design on a budget and make your space look like a million bucks, without spending that much money. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/better-together-w-maria/support
Interior designer Kelli Ellis joined the Heal Squad today to discuss renovations and the psychology behind renovations. Kelli discussed the tremendous positive impact lighting and mirroring has. She also shared the healing power of plants – including even the healing power of artificial plants. What? Floating shelves increase room size appearance. Cooler light bulbs vs. warmer light bulbs. White lighting vs. yellow lighting. What bulbs to install for which rooms and why as well as the psychological ramifications of either. How the container store, mirrors and Pinterest can give you the designer closet on a dime and in small spaces. Lamps Plus outlets can give you a ton of bang for your buck. You CAN do interior design, digitally. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/better-together-w-maria/support

Her most recent venture as VP of Industry Relations for EU, UK, and US of https://ronati.com/ (Ronati) where she supports dealers of antique, vintage, and one-of-a-kind pieces around the world with technology and tools to help their businesses thrive. I had the opportunity to sit down with Kelli to talk about a slew of serious topics from her new role with Ronati - the e-commerce manager that's about to Take the Antiques World by Storm - to her recent move to Barcelona - and the question we all want to know… which brand of red lipstick does she actually wear? Spoiler alert - It's Mac Ruby Woo. In fact, Kelli and I compared perfumed notes over our pucker power and discussed plans for the future as well as how we get what we want out of life. https://kelliellis.com/meet-kelli/ (Kelli Ellis) is an interior designer, lifestyle expert and lifelong traveler who represents the epitome of livable luxury and casual international style mixed with rock star glam. We met Phil about 3 years ago while at a Designer Mastermind with Kelli Ellis in Las Vegas. His mantra – “A personal brand isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity” and believes you need to use social media to promote your brand. I first met Kelli when she saw me speak at a Marketing to Millionaires event in Los Angeles over 10 years ago. I instantly hit it off with this mayor's daughter turned media darling, and we have been dear friends ever since. She started her media empire almost on accident, when a best friend from her former law school randomly had her drive two hours each way for a television show audition (Kelli had no media experience at the time). She landed Clean Sweep on TLC. It wasn't a straight line to the top from there. Like most of us, she experienced some incredible ups and downs along the way, evolving her business and leveling up her brand to become the media Goddess that she is now. Listen to this inspirational Profit-ology Podcast episode with Kelli Ellis and discover: ● How she made the transition from legal student to full time mom to media personality and how a random “allergy” to hair color changed everything in her career. ● Her biggest epiphany and how getting clear was a game changer for her life and her business. ● How to get started with the media and leverage media channels to build your brand and your business . It’s very easy to be completely happy and satisfied with the design and architecture community in Southern California, but where is the fun in that? This conversation took place at the WestEdge Design Fair and featured designers Kelli Ellis and Barclay Butera, also present was architect Greggory Phillips. This diverse panel discussed Maison y Objet in Paris. They compare and contrast this event with other design focused events around the US. This is a conversation about experience. While it is difficult for people to share the finer nuances of individual experience, it is really fun to hear how each experience the same show so differently. It allows one to fully recognize that experience is truly unique to the attendee and that is why everyone should experience Maison, it is on my short list, for sure. Enjoy this conversation on international design with some giants in the business. Today, The Lounge presents two chats. Nick hosts Kelli Ellis to discuss her recent hospitality projects and her visit to Polywood in Syracuse, Indiana. Then Nick talks to Lonni Paul, an L.A.-based designer who made the transition from modeling to architecture to interior design, and appears as a design expert for E! with designs all over the world.
I was recording live from the WestEdge Design Fair and onstage with me are designer Kelli Ellis and Interiors Magazine Editor-In-Chief Erika Heet. If you listen to the podcast regularly you know that I like to go deep and focus on the less explored side of design and architecture. The business side is fascinating to me and these two women are hyper-engaged and have so much to offer. They are also polar opposites in their demeanor and style. Conversations like these are fun, informative and also a little like doing the tightrope without the benefit of a net. Something really interesting about Kelli is her diverse background. She has a degree in marketing, studied law and has made a name for herself with her psychological approach to design. Erika is the Editor-In-Chief of Interiors Magazine and crafts a story like very few can. She studied english at Berkley and her work embodies a truly special approach to architecture and design. She too, knows the business well and that is where this episode gets interesting. If you are a creative type and want to grow your brand. You are about to get step-by-step instructions. High Point Market: Passion Sucks. It's All About the Money! Today in the Lounge, we have a live recording of Nick's panel "Passion Sucks. It's all about the Money!" at Universal Furniture's event room during High Point Market. Nick hosted this panel with superstars Kelli Ellis, Chad James, Steven Favreau, and Nina Magon. Also on the episode, Nick talks with Jill Erwin of Jill Erwin Interiors. Jill talks about her how she transitioned from fashion into interior design, how she runs her business and all about her killer marketing tactics. Passion Sucks. It's All About the Money! All of us in the interior design industry are passionate about interior design, but that doesn't mean all of us are successful. Passion can only take us so far, so what differentiates those that are successful, from those that are trying to become successful? Nick talks to industry-leading design firms from across the country, to learn how they've broken out of mediocre to build stand-out design firms. Learn not only how to get press coverage but also how to make REAL dollars. Panel Summary Kelli Ellis is an interior designer, licensing LLC, author, business coach and TV personality. While design is her passion, it's also her business. Nina Magon was an economics and finance major turned interior design. She was on American Dream Builders with Nate Berkus in 2013 as a semi-finalist. Nina just completed her project on 51fifteen Cuisine and Cocktails with Sax Fifth Avenue in Houston, Texas and does both residential and commercial design. Before Steven Favreau became an interior designer, he was a professional dancer and singer. Based out of Boston, Steven is opening up the Favreau's Factory, which is an 11,000 square foot think tank for himself, architects, high tech web people and photographers. It will launch January of 2018. Chad James is based out of Nashville, Tennessee but he has a plethora of clients all over the World including in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Cayman Islands. He originally studied Architecture at Auburn University and five years into his career he decided to start designing the interiors his buildings. His company does Architecture Consulting and 75% of their projects are residential, the rest are Commercial. Steven relays that one of the things you learn in becoming a successful designer is to always be looking for clients with large budgets. If you are able to do what you'd like without limitation, you will be better at your job and be able to show this off. For Steven, it's all about how you present yourself to clients. If he is put up against other designers for a job, he always makes the client feel comfortable that's he is the right choice because he is going to get it done right. Steven believes social media is where it's at but, networking, such as going High Point, is also important. Nina has been called the number one contemporary designer in Texas. To make her firm stand out, she has a no-nonsense policy. This policy means that they don't fool around with clients or their money and they deliver the best customer service. She only hires people who believe in her brand and who are modern and forward thinking. Four staff members out of her 12-person firm were educated in Columbia. They are able to bring new and innovative ideas to her company which help set her apart. Nina receives new clients by making all her previous clients very happy. Word of mouth goes a long way. For every project, Nina shoots to make 35%. Her firm charges $250 an hour with $20,000 minimum. Nina is involved in every aspect of the project and everyone she works with is an extension of herself. Nina prefers working on full houses and high profile projects which help get her name out there. The first time Kelli started to feel successful in her career was when she started getting knocked off. She doesn't see this as a negative because she broadcasts so much of what she does and has a “look at me” kind of company,

XXIV International Architecture & Interior Design Exposition in Spain In the world of porcelain, stone and ceramic wall & floor design, there are two key international exhibitions that take place every year - Cersaie in Bologna, Italy during the close of September and Cevisama in Valencia, Spain. Earlier this year, The Chaise Lounge along with sponsor Porcelanosa visited the Spanish Group's exhibition which ran concurrently with Cevisama. The following shows recap some of the highlights of the tour with guests sharing their individual and collective experience from the trip, the inspiration for which was the Chaise Lounge's social media competition #Let'sGoToSpain. Jessie Clayton Nick and Jessie Clayton get into the business discussions that permeated the trip, this for Jesse was invaluable and her favorite take away experience. Jesse took every advantage and opportunity to swap notes with her fellow designers from hiring more staff to branding. She also took advice from a previous episode of the show featuring companion traveler Kelli Ellis and changed her business name from Mod Barn Design to Jessie Clayton Designs. Jessie won her spot on the trip as the outright winner of our #LetsGoToSpain social media contest. Leading up to the trip she discusses being slightly apprehensive because she'd not met any of her fellow travelers, but Jessie was primed to learn and ready to focus. She prepared for it as a business trip but was surprised how effortlessly the relationships developed in such a brief time. Jessie shares her compliments of the warm hospitality shown to the group by everyone she came in to contact with from Porcelanosa. She describes the designs and products as trend forward and unique and her intent to introduce them to her projects. A note that will be a recurring theme is shared by Jessie – the overwhelming depth and breadth of the Porcelaonsa product assortment – not just tile! Nick & Jessie also encourage listeners to visit their local Porcelanosa showroom, or get to know their representatives – and take every opportunity that could lead to joining a future trip with the company to Spain. The City of Art and Sciences Lina Goldberg Lina Goldberg of HBG Design, formerly known as Hnedak Bobo and one of the top 10 leading companies in the hospitality design arena, called Nick from Memphis, Tennessee - the home of Elvis Presley. Her firm recently completed the 450 room Guest House at Graceland® Resort and is currently working on multiple construction projects. Nick wanted his listeners to get to know Lina, so they delve into her history and interests. She grew up in Indianapolis and her favorite vacation spot is Venice, Italy for its unique culture and history. Lina was first interested in interior design when she was a kid flipping through her mom's Architectural Digest magazines. When she was 10 years old, she said that she was going to be an architect when she grew up. Lina double majored in Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati, where she decided she wanted to focus on interiors. On the weekends, Nina likes to spend time with her three-year-old son. HBG Design specializes in gaming resorts, hotels, restaurants, casinos, entertainment venues, and event centers all over the country. In a company of over 100 employees with 20 designers, Lina is one of the lead Interior Designers. Lina's favorite role is the early concept work of a project. The company doesn't usually work on branded hotel properties and this affords Lina the freedom to make each assignment unique without the constraints of brand standards. Before attending the Porcelanosa trip to Spain, Lina mainly knew Porcelanosa as a tile fabricator and supplier. Yet, while on the trip, she learned about the many different products that Porcelanosa creates. The exhibition experience that stood out the most to Lina was learning how tile is manufactured in the Porcelanosa factories and then seeing the products installed in...

Las Vegas Market Live: Kelli Ellis Today in The Lounge, Kelli Ellis joins Nick LIVE in Las Vegas at the Norwalk Lounge. Kelli discusses how she was constantly being called a rockstar SO she took it ran and now being a rock star is her brand! Kelli tells us about the projects she's currently working on and gives advice on how to brand yourself. Kelli and Nick also talk about their time together in Spain earlier this year and how Nick got started with The Chaise Lounge Podcast. Getting to Know Kelli Kelli is from Las Vegas, Nevada. Kelli's hair used to be brown, but in high school, it started changing to silver and white so, she decided to embrace the look. Now she is known for her iconic white hair, as well as having a pair of glasses and wearing bold red lipstick. Her favorite fashion accessory is the wrist cuff, like Wonder Woman, (as it's her favorite movie). When asked beer, wine, or cocktail, she chooses a cocktail... any cocktail with vodka. Kelli lives in Vegas, but does work in Orange County where she grew up, and where her dad was mayor. She loves Iris Apfel. Kelli's guilty pleasure is that she'd rather pick up a fashion magazine before an interior design one. What's New? Kelli debuted a small art collection for Leftbank Art last year. Drawing has been a passion of hers since she was a little girl: she would draw all over the walls and anything she could get her hands on (including her dad's law school notebooks). Kelli originally went to law school like her father, though the transition to design came about because she often decorated her friend's and family's homes in college. Thus, she decided to switch paths and go to the Interior Design Institute in Newport Beach, California. Her very first client now lives two blocks from her and Kelli apologizes constantly for the okay job she did fresh out of design school. Kelli tries not to plan what is coming next but she does set goals for herself. She likes to live her career day by day and hopes to have a tv show where she can talk about design and travel the world while doing it. To get to where she is, Kelli has listened to her gut a lot! Kelli has been working on some tv projects for HGTV on House Hunters Renovation. She is also currently working on two hotels, one located in Colorado Springs and another in Bend, Oregon. She has a fabric line as well as a lighting line that is coming soon! So be on the lookout. She's scheduled to speak at Maison & Objet, in Paris AND to add to it all, Kelli is also working on some commissioned art pieces for Leftbank. The Business Today Kelli only has a staff of one, which is her assistant. She is able to manage her business this way because she is very good at time management and is diligent about her calendar. Kelli and her team only check their email twice a day; she believes that taking a breather from work and not overdoing it is one best things you can do for yourself and your business. She even set up an autoresponder informing anyone who emails her that she is not available and will get back to them as soon as she can. Kelli is a designer who is not afraid to say no to new clients, because she knows that she will not have the necessary amount of time to give them right away, so, she puts new clients off for about six months. She finds this to be a good strategy for her and her prospective clients, as it gives them a chance to wait for her services, really think about what they want, and research her better. Kelli books herself full. Right now, she has three new construction projects, two hotels, tv work, licensing, and traveling time she's planning. Kelli doesn't waste any time, even before the podcast she was picking out Kravet fabrics for a client! Kelli is EVERYWHERE and she does it all without a PR agency. She handles everything herself. If you see a picture of Kelli out there it is because that picture speaks to her brand and who she is. She gets her name out there by calling up every head of marketing that she...

ICFF and Coming to America This is the third and final show coming from ICFF NYC. Nick chats with CEO Richard Munao of NAU Designs and designer Kenneth Cobonpue. As Nick walked through ICFF, these two booths stood out to him. Let's find out why. Meet Richard, Meet Nau Nau (pronounced n-o-w) is a brand new collection, but Richard has been in the industry for around 30 years. He got his start as a cabinet maker. Richard has been to ICFF before, but only as an onlooker to observe to study how the show works. This year though was Nau's international debut and their first foot into the U.S. Richard's hopes to champion Australian design and bring his passion to the world. Nau makes tables, sofas, beds, and chairs out of walnut, oak, and ash, and are testing Australian timbers as well, to see how well they would work exported. Right now the most difficult part of launching Nau is navigating the different distribution network in the United States compared to Australia, and working out who is who in this large country of 50 states. Richard is figuring out the best places to market and ICFF is definitely one of them. He worked with Australian designers and photographers to design their stand and photograph it to make it stand out. Nau's collection integrates an acoustic material to create a quieter environment and weaved screen-like walls which light can pass through. Their aesthetic creates organic shapes opposed to rectilinear modernity; it's created to be a visual piece within a room. Originally the products were planned to be for the workplace but wineries and jewelry stores have reached out to use them to create intimate spaces. They would also be great in a coffee shop or an airport. Learn more at naudesign.com.au Kenneth Cobonpue Kenneth Cobonpue creates unique handmade furniture that is inspired by nature. He uses sustainable materials, organic fibers and recycled polyethylene for outdoor pieces. He creates indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, installations, and art. He's been doing this professionally for 15 years but really, it all started when he was just a kid. Kenneth grew up in the Philippines where his mother was a furniture designer from the back of their home. He grew up surrounded by craftsmen who taught him how to use the materials so he could build his own toys and bridges. Later, Kenneth left for Pratt in NYC to study industrial design and then returned to the Philippines to design his own collections, with the same people who made his mother's furniture. His first piece is the yin and yang, a simple cubic chair, which he designed with an open weave for air to flow through littleview obstruction. He has developed this open weave aesthetic and now uses it in all of his products. Kenneth's inspiration comes from nature; if you look through a tree you can see the light passing through its branches and leaves, just like in his frames. ICFF is where Kenneth and his team meet clients, retailers, new designers, and the press. Also, it is where they introduce their new products into the American market. Learn more at kennethcobonpue.com Porcelanosa has started a new trend in hospitality: taking carpet out of rooms and people are LOVING it. Carpet is the culprit that traps and keeps odors so it's a good idea to get rid of it. The only problem though is that when you walk on hard surfaces though, it creates lots of noise for your neighbors. So, Porcelanosa has created a sound underlay system that deadens noise and sound! Virgin Hotels in Chicago have been named the number one hotel in America by because of Porcelanosa's floor system is in every room. If you want to learn more about it visit porcelanosa.usa The Las Vegas Market LIVE Chaise Lounge show is coming soon at a different showroom location each day of Market at 4 pm PT.
