On the very first episode of the Indie Women Podcast I talked with Keylee Koop-Sudduth, a 2-time Tribeca Film Festival selectee, about her journey in the film business. Starting out as an actor in Texas, Keylee shares how she made the move to Los Angeles and formed Bob Billiams Productions, under which she wrote, produced, directed and starred with her partner Micah in their original web-series "Home" which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018. From there we get into their latest series, "Backsliders," (Tribeca 2021), and how their festival success led them to directing an entire series for YouTube. Keylee has a unique lens, and together with her partner Micah, she has made big things happen due to her independent, self-funded projects. In this episode, we (Keylee and Micah) sit down just the two of us and talk about some of the questions and themes we’ve been ruminating on throughout this very challenging last year (okay, last few years). We talk candidly about grief, loss, the parallels of facing a loved one's terminal illness and facing a global pandemic, the importance of self-compassion, learning to pursue progress and not perfection, and most importantly: how we still don’t really know much of anything. Keylee Koop-Sudduth is a Texas born and raised actor, writer, producer, and director now living in Los Angeles. In 2013, she co-founded the award-winning independent production company Bob Billiams Productions with her husband and creative partner Micah Sudduth. Keylee's original projects have become Official Selections of Tribeca Film Festival (2018, 2020) and won awards like Best Series at LA Indie Fest and Sunset Comedy Series. Keylee's latest project, BACKSLIDERS, is an Official Selection of Tribeca Film Festival 2020. She is currently co-writing a half-hour comedy pilot under the same title with Micah Sudduth and co-writing a feature film with Micah Sudduth and Matt Cook of Hazard Pay Productions.

This is the first episode of Backsliders that we recorded via Skype during COVID-19 quarantine. In this episode, we have a wonderful talk with author, speaker, researcher and advocate Linda Kay Klein. Linda is the Founder and President of Break Free Together, a not-for-profit that uses story exchange to help people release shame and claim their whole selves. Her organization was born out of Linda’s 15 years of research documented in her award-winning book (one of Keylee's favorites), "Pure: Inside the Evangelical Movement that Shamed a Generation of Young Women and How I Broke Free." Linda talks with us about her upbringing in Evangelical Christianity, how her experiences in purity culture shaped her view of herself, sex, and Christianity, and where she is in her faith today. Micah was born into a Christian cult. Keylee grew up in a megachurch. In this very first episode, we talk about how we stepped away from organized religion in order to become our healthiest selves. We discuss shame that still clings even after our beliefs have changed, what we can learn from examining pain, and letting go of what other people think to claim who we really are. Skinner Danny Watkins is “Livin’ the Dream” as a Modern Cowboy. A bull rider, school teacher, arena director, founder of Slide and Ride Rodeo Co., and top hand roping chute operator. Skinner is an educator working with at risk youth in Arizona and is a very active with the Junior Rodeo Association. He is a proud and loving father of his two children Skyler and Keylee and respected member of the community.

Micah and Keylee have been MARRIED for FOUR YEARS and are VERY CHILL. They met in Texas while starring as “kind of friends-with-benefits” in a play when Keylee was still in finishing her degree and got married shortly after her graduation.
