At the Farm, Heath is otherwise known as “Kathleen's husband.” He is the guy that floats around on the weekends lugging toolboxes, skill saw, sprinkler fittings, and plumbing implements – fixing this and that and trying to stay out of the boss-lady's way. Heath grew up in the Colorado mountains, living the rural life. He worked with horses from an early age. A big kid for his age, Heath spent the summer between 6th and 7th grade on a logging crew high up in the San Juan Mountains. His job was to section the felled logs into 8 ft lengths, and then run a team of gigantic draft horses to drag the logs out of the deep forest. He nicknamed the drafts Heckle and Jeckle due to their often caustic sense of humor. At age 13, he spent the summer working at a Colorado dude ranch, wrangling horses (and people). He learned how to drink coffee during those 4:30 am mornings. Herding 30 horses out of a 100-acre pasture every morning required caffeine and patience. Heath moved to South Dakota at age 14. With his mom's help, he his first business. He purchased 4 two-year-old colts, broke and trained them, and then sold them. The company was a bust, however, because he lost a quarter of his profits after falling in love and keeping “Good ol' Sackett” (who was a not a so “good” Arabian roan) Sackett was a runner. If you gave him his head, he would bolt, ears back, eyes white and manic. Heath truly had to cowboy up to get him under control. Quickly he devised a plan to only let Sackett “run” when he was headed uphill. It had to be a big hill, though, because if Sackett wasn't blown by the time he reached the top – the downhill white-eyed run was terrifying.Heath left home at 17 and moved to Aspen, Colorado. There he met a photographer while busing tables. The woman asked him to sit for some fashion photos. They weren't very good, but the experience began a new twisting trail in Heath's life. He moved to Los Angeles, did some modeling while also training horses in Malibu for a Hollywood film mogul, and within a few months, he was invited to model in Paris. He stayed in Europe for a year. (Where, incidentally, he was struck by lightning during a solo camping trek up Mont Blanc, but that's another story.)Back in LA, Heath quickly moved from modeling to acting. He worked with top celebrities and directors in the industry with stints in Wyatt Earp, Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman, and eventually as a series regular on The Young And the Restless. After 20 years, he transitioned again, from acting to writing, penning two novels and a memoir, and countless film and television scripts. Finally, he met Kathleen. Except for the western movies he performed in, Heath had been away from his equine roots for most of his time in Hollywood, and he could notbelieve his luck when he found a “horsewoman” in the middle of LA!In 2010,as he watched Kathleen working on her first variations of No Thrush powder and then saw how her colleagues kept begging her to make some more of her “Thrush Stuff,” Heath finally suggested,“This is clearly somethingthat works, and people seem to want it. We should make a big batch and see if it will sell.”That was the beginning. The husband and wife team worked in the garage into the late hours making powder and working out the logistics. There was a lot to learn! Internet sales went crazy right away, and they were up until midnight every night packing boxes. Soon No Thrush was in the local stores and then spreading outward in a ripple effect. Within a year, the product was sold nationally and had jumped the pond into the EU, Japan, AU, NZ, etc.Heath now runs the Four Oaks Products production facility. Just as he does on the weekends at the farm, he wears many hats and carries many toolboxes.Facebook personal -

Great time on the Podcast with Justin, your everyday humble down to earth Rock Star! Love this guy... Justin Biltonen blurs the lines between ‘what you see is what you get' and ‘still waters run deep.' Southern born and bred, Biltonen is a product of broken-in boots and 90s bests.Baptized by an adoration for country, rock, punk and hardcore, Justin went from singing in hometown worship groups to traveling the nation playing southern-fried rock n' roll. Fueled by uncompromising passion and a gypsy soul, Biltonen became a self proclaimed highway-runner. It was on those endless, late night drives that he conjured up the soundtrack from his youth-- a mixtape filled with Drive By Truckers, Waylon and Shooter Jennings, Brooks and Dunn, Shenandoah and countless others, which ultimately reignited his love of country music. Not long after, Justin proved that all roads really do lead to Nashville, TN. Immersing himself in Music City's one of a kind songwriting community, Biltonen continued to refine his craft and establish himself as a force within the industry. Eventually, Justin Biltonen became a name to know as the bassist for alt-rock tastemakers 3 Doors Down. Touring globally as a member of one of the genre's most timeless bands, Justin was able to support numerous chart topping albums, including Us And The Night, which peaked at #2 on Billboard's Rock Chart. A career changing moment for Justin Biltonen, Us And The Night was the first major release he both wrote and played on in-studio. Having earned the courage and credentials, Justin began indulging his longtime love of country music and officially announced his solo project with the singles “Use You” and “How A Man's Made.” Biltonen marked his terrestrial radio debut with the follow-up single “She's Got the Highway”, which he credits with solidifying his stance as a member of the country music community. From playing bars and basements to global tours and the Presidential Inauguration, the North Carolina native owes his success to nothing more than his sincere, unwavering respect for music.“Whether I'm doing my own thing or touring with the band, thriving through the ups and downs in the name of the music is always going to matter more than anything else.” Humbled by his own experience, Justin is currently celebrating the release of his single “Forever Tonight” as well as “Someday Cowgirl” and “Working Thang” Having already achieved career milestones across streaming platforms and country radio alike, “Heartache Rodeo” has been featured in the film “Shelter In Solitude” as well as upcoming documentaries. .

Josh his wife Erica and son Henry Ciardullo are passionate ranchers who care deeply about animals, the environment, our community and the food we eat. We're guessing that's what brought you here too. Welcome! Six years ago Josh, with his adventurous spirit, convinced me, Erica the school teacher, to put on my cowgirl boots and move from Denver to the town of Wellington—Colorado's beautiful northern gateway. It's here, on this land, the three of us found our roots. Together, we built 33-acres of land into Ciardullo Ranch—a grass-fed, pasture-raised sustainable and regenerative Black Angus operation, complete with chickens, sheep and livestock dogs Marv, Mosey and Osmond. Recently we expanded our stewardship into a 500-acre paradise named Sylvan Dale Ranch a few miles south of Ciardullo Ranch.   More than simply ranching, we strive to be stewards of the land God gave us. Beyond the minimum of raising our angus humanely and on grass-pastures, our goal is to raise our animals as if it were 10,000 years ago—instead of working against nature, we strive to mimic what would take place in our absence. We aren't trying to keep up with the swings of the cattle market and stress over the buy-low-sell-high mentality. We want our animals to breed and calve in sync with their large herbivore neighbors, like the elk and deer that roam free in our backyard, the Rocky Mountains.  At Ciardullo Ranch, we hope you'll leave not only well-fed, but inspired. This was a very important episode of the podcast with David Duquette of "Western Justice". The Cowboy, Rodeo & Western Lifestyle is under attack and Dave is at the tip of the spear in combating our enemies. This is a MUST LISTEN... Dave Duquette has been a loud and clear voice of reason for agriculture and rural rights in the United States. With a passion for rural American causes, Western Justice founder Dave Duquette has experience fighting some of the toughest battles in Agriculture. Dave's career as an animal welfare and agriculture advocate started over 2 decades ago. A Marine, Dave has built several businesses including his own horse training facility in Northeast Oregon.  During his career as a horse trainer, he began seeing the unjust policies inflicted on rural America, and believed they needed someone who would stand up for them, their families, beliefs, and their way of life, he wanted to be that person.   After seeing Dave discuss industry issues with Bret Baier on Fox News, Forrest Lucas, founder of the pro-agriculture education Protect The Harvest, recruited Dave as the nonprofit's National Strategic Planner and Spokesman. There, he built a robust team of SME writers and digital media specialists, catapulting the organization's online presence and messaging, transforming it into one of the most coveted agricultural advocacy groups.  In 2020 He started his own consulting business, Duquette Strategies, to continue advocating at a new level. His years at PTH were parallel to earning a PHD in politics. Working in Washington D.C, enabled him to form invaluable relationships and gave him the knowledge and the tactics needed to navigate government departments. In 2020 with his consulting business off and running, Dave was approached by a rightly concerned group of knowledgeable horse people about the increasing influence animal extremist groups are having on the industry and wanted to know what could be done to stop the unjust legislation, these groups push in all levels of government. Dave recognized the importance of uniting individuals and industry groups under one umbrella to advocate legislatively for the western lifestyle, livelihoods, and industry events. He saw the value of a membership-based organization and believes the strength and longevity of an organization must come from the people it represents. In 2020 Dave founded Western Justice, a non-profit 501(c)(4) membership-based organization.   His team of experts possesses a broad range of knowledge in areas such as policy, public relations, marketing, advertising, research, and writing, and most importantly, they are all integrally involved in the western lifestyle, including multigenerational ranchers, veterinarians, competitors, and trainers and/or breeders. Western Justice's most recent and influential initiative is the Western Sports Industry Coalition, consisting of 50+ organizations, uniting to stop the Los Angeles City Council's proposed ordinance to ban western sports events.  Known to government officials and agencies as the “Cowboy with a voice” Dave is looking forward to continuing his work and strives to make Western Justice a legacy that protects the western heritage for future generations. Western Justice Legislative Fund is a membership-based, nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization that engages in political action to preserve and protect the western lifestyle, livelihoods, and industry events.   Western Justice was established by a group of industry professionals who were alarmed at the increasing influence animal extremist groups are having on the western industry and, more importantly, with the lack of representation essential in the fight to preserve our western heritage.    The Western Justice team is committed to forming a united front of Western organizations and individuals and to advocating on their...

Had a great time on the Podcast with Tommy Booth, Founder of the Wine Boss, LLC Brand in Paso Robles CA. Tommy has an amazing story of his journey to creating his company and I am sure you will enjoy it & be inspired as much as me... Born in Los Angeles in 1988. Grew up riding horses and helping dad run his vineyard business and Appaloosa program. Mom was Chicago born and pushed me academically, which led to my acceptance into Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo under the major of Wine and Viticulture. Dad passed away unexpectedly during my first quarter of college and so I juggled the vineyard business while obtaining my degree. After that I worked production and tasting room management in Paso Robles while continuing vineyard work in Los Angeles.  Eventually, I created the umbrella company Wine Boss LLC which titles my own winery license and tasting room. Using a great deal of persistence, I was able to make a private label wine for my favorite reggae rock band, Pepper, and several other bands within that genre of music. With business being as time consuming as it was, I was about to move on from vineyards when I received a call about replacing vines at a very familiar address. It was a vineyard my father and I installed 17 years prior so I took the job out of sentimental value.  However, dad had given me the account of a lifetime.. I came to find out that Kevin Hart was the new owner of the property. Divine (no pun intented) intervention - (haha had to steal that Dan ;) I've been working with Kev and his wines for 3 years now, hoping this leads to something huge for my brand. It was an honor to have Jason Paletta on the podcast, a true patriot putting his money where his mouth is to save California and America. I have so much respect for this man who is not afraid and willing to get in the fight. Growing up in this great state, Jason was active in the Future Farmers of America at Colusa High School and worked in rice fields or moving water irrigation pipes in walnut orchards. After graduating from Colusa High school, Jason joined the U.S. Army where he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division as an Airborne Infantryman. He was honorably discharged and returned back to California where he attended the police academy in 1998. It's time to send a peace officer to the California State Assembly! Jason Paletta is a twenty-three-year law enforcement veteran and former SWAT officer. He currently is with the California Department of Justice, where he works as a Special Agent on the Violent Crimes Team. The lifelong Northern California resident is a husband and father of three.   Besides his regular law enforcement duties, Jason has served in various security roles for our country. From 2011 to 2013, Paletta worked with the U.S. Department of State as part of the High Threat Diplomatic Protection corps. From January 2011 to May 2012, Jason was assigned to the U.S. Ambassador's Protection Detail, Counter Assault Team, and the Downed Aircraft Recovery Team in Iraq, conducting numerous missions in the Red Zone. From June 2012 to October 2013, he worked as a firearms instructor and was assigned to the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) in Herat and Mazar-E-Sharif, Afghanistan. Jason Paletta is also a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the 3/504 Parachute Infantry Regiment with the 82nd Airborne.   As a former SWAT officer, gang detective, field training officer, recruitment officer, member of the Federal Safe Streets Task Force, and president of the Police Officer Association, Jason has seen first-hand how pro-criminal policies like Prop. 47, AB 109, and related legislation have made California's communities and families less safe.   That is why Jason is now running for State Assembly. His perspective and background as a law enforcement officer, military veteran, husband, and father can help restore California. From the mismanagement of our education system and parental rights to out of control homelessness, lack of quality treatment for our veterans, and high criminal activity due to the system failing to hold criminals accountable, Californians need a strong voice with the experience and commitment to put people first—not the politicians or the special interests.  Jason Paletta holds a Masters Degree in Homeland Security and was born and raised in Colusa County. Bringing you clothes to match your persevering self. We're a brand that is not limited to one demographic of a person or thing. The “Come On With It” mindset is simply, just that. The hustle, grind, and self motivated mentality is who we are.  The phrase “Come On With It” started out as a greeting to one another. A saying you'd yell to your buddies from across the room and they would know who it was. Something you'd say when you needed a little motivation, that inner voice. It was also used to compliment and congratulate one another. Quite a few of our “day1s” would use it to end their social media post (i.e “can't wait to go to the lake this weekend…COME ON WITH IT!” or “just finished my first marathon today…COWI” and so forth. It's a phrase that is lived by on a day to day basis and is limitless to each their own.  We are, COWI Brand. COME ON WITH IT!  Resources: @cowibrand www.cowibrand.com Show Sponsors: LINK IN BIO USE CODE: “MODERNCOWBOY” @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global @nrsworld Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand

Had an amazing time on the Podcast with Adrian Brannan, intelligent and multi talented she is also the Founder of "Make America Cowboy Again". Adrian Brannan is a Billboard chart-topping singer-songwriter who is equally at home in the branding pen, onstage, or on a bucking horse. Brannan encourages women around the world through her weekly #DearCowgirl letters and through her recently released book, Dear Cowgirl: Letters to Women. Hailing from an off-grid cabin in the mountains, Brannan splits her time between touring, writing, performing, chopping wood, and taking care of her own small bunch of cows. Growing up in a “gypsy family,” Adrian was exposed to the raw beauty of the Scottish highlands and the Nevada sagebrush, the harsh reality of life in a post-iron curtain Ukraine and the adventures of learning French in Switzerland before returning to life in America and falling in love with the west. “I lived in a 14 ft tipi through middle and high school” Adrian reflects, “I was a wild child with un-brushed hair and out of control riding bareback and wishing I had been born a mountain man from the fur trade era. My family not only tolerated, but encouraged my unruly behavior and cultivated my love of the wild places and freedom.” Hard work, books, trapping, opera (another tale in and of itself) and barefoot adventures into the hills filled Adrian's childhood, and although her family was not always cowboying for a living or based on huge ranches-the love of working horseback learned from her father always stayed with her. “My dad and sister were the cowboys. My mom and I were the free spirit-cowboys” Adrian says with a smile. “I refused to do things like everyone else. I didn't care if I was weird or the odd man out, I loved the old school – the different – the roads less traveled.” When Adrian was 14, her life changed forever with the chance to record an album. An open mic, two newly written songs and a little girl who had been playing a pawn-shop guitar for two weeks suddenly realized her life's purpose. With the help of an incredible couple (Mike and Liz Vanderhoof) from Utah who saw the clear potential, Adrian picked up the guitar and welded pen and paper like weapons, moving head-on into the career she knows she was meant to pursue to this day. “I realized that I had things to say, a [cowboy] culture I longed to protect, and a spirit that had to wander. It was stumbling into perfection, into meaning and into something I've never regretted for a minute. It was like coming home.” Resources: @adrianbrannan @makeamericacowboyagainofficial  Show Sponsors: LINK IN BIO USE CODE: “MODERNCOWBOY” @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global @nrsworld Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand

Had a great time and was so inspired talking with Kayla on the Podcast. She has overcome many challenges in her life and pursues her dreams with a relentless passion... Kayla's Story of Pro Rodeo Dreams I would like to begin with my story and it all starts on June 16, 1994. This day is the day I was born. On this day I was born I came out weighing just 1 lb. 16 oz. and started fighting for my life as a child that was immediately put through a lot in just the first days I was born and it has continued through my life. I was put into the NICU right away since I was so small and lived there for 3 months which put me at coming home right around the time I was originally supposed to come into this world around September 30. I came home with oxygen and very little lung capacity living on monitors for quite awhile. As a child I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy which has really only affected my legs putting me in a wheelchair and the right side is my weaker side. I was put through many surgeries and therapy to try and help the condition and to help me maintain a normal life living with this condition. Even though I was diagnosed with this condition I grew up on a ranch south of my hometown 15 miles and we were ranchers so it was without a doubt that I was going to be horseback starting at just the young age of 3 years old I was put on a horse with someone because I didn't have the muscles or strength to know how to hold on. The physical therapists even said it was great therapy for me so I continued and currently I'm waiting for my next horse to be ready for me to ride. Now lets go to the age of 7 years old where I was able to receive intensive therapy in Poland for one month. This trip was definitely a culture shock to me at such a young age but it was one that was truly life changing. To summarize this intensive therapy it was physical therapy that children were put through some rigorous therapy sessions that were 8 hours a day, 6 days a week with only Sundays off. In this therapy children are given many therapy sessions but the most intensive part of this therapy is when the children are put into what is called an Adeli Suit otherwise known as a space suit that the astronauts used in Russia to go into space. With this suit that children are put into its all connected with bungee cords that are able to be moved in different places to help the brain and body be able to communicate with what the legs and limbs are really supposed to do to be able to walk. It not only helps with the physical aspect but also helps the mental aspect. When we first arrived my first day of therapy we had shipped by current walker that I had been using at the time for physical therapy. The first thing one of the therapists told us was why do you have this? You aren't going to need this when you are done with your therapy here and we will not be using that here in your therapy sessions at all you might as well get rid of it. Well by the time I left there at the end of the one month session I came home walking with arm crutches first time ever that I was able to walk with no help from anyone while walking. I could have went back for a second round which could have put me in the next phase of the therapy which is walking with canes and the third part of it is walking with no assistive devices at all. Unfortunately this is around the time that the war broke out and we didn't go back again. I believe this is truly where I gained the mental confidence of you can do anything that you put your mind to. My parents even videoed the stuff that I did while on therapy there for guidance for the physical therapists back home and we tried to do as much as we could, even though I was going to school and still trying to live a normal life but nothing compared to that intensive therapy that I got while there. Fast forward to my middle school years I had a surgery done to lengthen my hamstring tendons which we thought at the time it would work well after the surgery I...

When working on the ranch we had 125 head of horses something was always breaking ,Patterson said. The head Wrangler taught me how to repair and maintain the saddles. That is where I got my start on building saddles, then later went back to Montana and opened a Western store with a saddle shop in back. After selling the store I spent full time building saddles, for many years I built 50 t 52 saddles each year. Now it is a much slower pace my designs are more refined and I enjoy working on new tooling patterns and trying new ideas. In 2019 I won first place in saddles carved divisionAt the World Leather Debut. This is a contest that has been taking place for 20 years in Sheridan WY. It is the largest contest for saddle makers that I know of, and it was a true honor to win . Many of the great past and current saddle makers have won this contest like Don King, Don Butler and Keith Seidel and for me it is a highlight of more than 40 years of building saddles. Now I build saddles for ranchers and , team ropers most of my saddles get used hard but some just go into the living room to look at. I am so blessed to have the family and friends I do and get to get up each day knowing that I get to do something I love to do.Resources:  @leepattersonmt Show Sponsors: LINK IN BIO USE CODE: “MODERNCOWBOY” @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global @nrsworld Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand

Join me as I talk with the Austin Whitmore the founder of "Cowboy Fresh" a super cool Western Lifestyle Brands that crosses multiple cultures... Cowboy Fresh is a western clothing brand founded by Austin Whitmore in 2010 with headquarters in Salinas, California. The brand gleans inspiration from traditional rodeo wear and surf/skate styles to create original graphic tees and snapbacks. While attending rodeos, Austin noticed athletes and attendees wearing surf/skate brands with cowboy hats and Wrangler jackets. With no company in sight taking the leap into blending the two styles together, Austin decided to fill in the gap with his own brand. Since its inception, Cowboy Fresh has grown into a trustworthy brand and family that spans across the world, with loyal customers and wholesalers in Australia and Canada. Cowboy Fresh is proud to be worn by professional bull riders, rodeo athletes, and country musicians worldwide. Austin collaborates with multiple graphic designers to keep the clothing line fresh and innovative. Beyond graphic tees, snapbacks, and hoodies, Cowboy Fresh has ventured into jewelry and accessories by offering pendants.  More than a clothing company, Cowboy Fresh aims to foster a community built around a passion for rodeo. Charles is true renaissance man and the epitome of a Modern Cowboy... I was so inspired talking with Charles & hearing his amazing story I know you will be too. Charles Bisset grew up off grid in the Valhalla mountains of British Columbia, Canada for the first 17 years of his life. His father was raised on a dude ranch which inspired him to raise his family off grid. Both of his parents were opera teachers and his mother homeschooled both Charles and his sister.  He started thai boxing when he was 11 years old because he wanted to get into involved in sports and the boxing gym was the only thing available in that area.  He had his first fight when he was 15 years old in a nightclub and by the time he was 16 he was the number 4th amateur in canada. At 17 he decided to move away and pursue his dream of being a professional cowboy on big ranches. He cowboyed in four different provences in Canada, including the famous half a million acre Douglas Lake Ranch Cattle Company and then moved to Califorina to continue cowboying at Fort Baker Ranch. He fulfilled his dream of being a cowboy for 6 years and decided to continue fighting and pursue acting. Since then hes gone on to win the CMTA National Title, NAMTF North American Title, Thilands Suwit Sadium Title, WKA World Title, United States WBC title, 2x IKKC International Champion, Titans of Muay Thai Champion and WBL World Champion. Charles has also appeared in 10 national commercials, a few indie films and appeared along side Chris Kristofferson.  Charles Current sponsors include: Trifecta  Trident Muay Thai Fight Gear Nectarstick Rouge Reserve Oregon Show Sponsors: LINK IN BIO USE CODE: “MODERNCOWBOY” @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global @nrsworld Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand

Had a great time on the Podcast with 10 time National Finals Rodeo Qualifier Charly Crawford discussing the American Military Celebration. AMC a team roping event dedicated to thanking military veterans, first responders, and their families. Charly is a True Patriot & has a passion for giving back. Charly Crawford Bio Born and raised in Canby, Oregon Charly Crawford grew up with his dad who was a bareback rider and the self-proclaimed biggest team roping fan on earth. Charly's father, Chuck always had good horses and was one of the reasons the crossfire rule was implemented. Growing up in the Northwest, the summers were always fun because guys like Mike Beers, Allan Back, Jake Barnes, Clay Cooper, and Leo Camarillo would come rope at their house. Due to the average rainfall being so significant, they could only rope about 4 months of the year outdoors. Chuck had a roping club where there were weekly practices and monthly jackpots. Charly always got to rope with guys that gave him no choice but to rope the best he could. He made the amateur finals before he made the high school finals. He and his dad would jackpot together, and Charly even did his first roping school at the age of 12. It took winning for Charly to take roping seriously and once he was accustomed to winning, he never looked back. “I paid my fees for the Dummy Ropings by picking up beer cans around the arena” Before moving to Arizona to attend college at Central Arizona in Casa Grande, Charly took home a state championship and made the National High School Rodeo finals three times. College was a challenge because he suffered from a learning disability, and it was always more enticing to make money. He tended to business long enough to take some teaching courses, make the college finals three times, and work on his farrier skills but never graduated. Charly bought his PRCA permit in 1997 and filled it at the first rodeo he entered in Tacoma, WA. He was roping with Shane Crossley. In 1998 he won PRCA Resistol Rookie of the Year. The years leading into 2001 were inconsistent, but Charly was focused on gathering up some good horses and making his herd valuable. There are a lot of influences in our sport, but one piece of advice always stuck with Charly: “It's not how much you can win on your horses by how much your horses can keep you from winning” This led to the purchase of “Armadillo” which Charly acquired because of a bet. This horse proved himself by being named Horse of the BFI in 2001 and was Reserve Horse of the Year in 2005. You should know that through the roller coaster of life and the ups and downs on the rodeo trail that Charly always had an inkling to ride saddle broncs. His curiosity wasn't fueled by trying to do what his dad did, but because he rode a lot of outside horses and if they'd fart, he fell off. In 2003, Charly was on the kick that he wanted to ride broncs when he got a call from Bucky Campbell to rope. He told Bucky what he had on his mind and all Bucky could say is “Don't do it!” so, they roped for a while and Charly was back to having those thoughts about bronc riding again when he had the opportunity to roe with Tyler Magnus. Tyler also told Charly “Don't do it!” “When one door closes, another door opens” Pretty soon, Charly was back in the Northwest and Matt Funk called looking for a partner. By this time, Charly was strongly evaluating the option to ride broncs and had decided to back his goals down and get back to basics. He told Matt that he wanted to win the amateur circuit, make the circuit finals, and practice with a purpose. Together they won both amateur association finals and made the circuit finals, but Matt decided to go back to heading so Charly was thinking about bronc riding again. He'd started hanging out behind the chutes, learning the lingo, getting familiar with the equipment and how it all worked. Now its 2004 and Mike Beers calls, he also says “Don't do it!” so Charly is back to team roping and learns how to...

Great time on the Podcast with John Cofer talking a little about his career in the UFC & a lot about custom hat making (including the hat he's building for me)... John Cofer had always loved the history, appearance of and story behind the western hat. Which led to the desire and curiosity to want to create his own authentic western hat. At this time, John was living in a tiny Airstream trailer in the middle of a horse pasture in Southwest Montana. The will to learn and curiosity took the reins and the research began. A work bench and a handful of hat blocks took over where a small futon once sat. Soon thereafter, the very first western hats were created. Hat making quickly turned from hobby to passion which is where Cofer Hat Company was born. Now located in the hills overlooking Livingston, Montana, a tiny hat shop stays busy handcrafting unique, one of a kind hats for our friends near and far. Cofer Hat Company is constantly evolving and learning, bringing you high quality hats that will last a lifetime.  Resources: https://coferhatcompany.com/ Show Sponsors: LINK IN BIO @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global @nrsworld Show Music: “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand

His innovative company is bringing world class athletic performance training into the 21st Century for Professional Rodeo Athletes as well as all of us weekend warriors. Take your fitness, performance & nutrition to the next level & beyond through his Rodeo / Cowboy / Western Lifestyle Program. "Champion Living Fitness." Doug's Story, As I moved on to college and focused on the sport of rodeo at the collegiate and professional level, my passion for fitness grew much deeper! I knew that in order to be successful at these levels of competition I would need to be in the best physical shape possible! I worked out 4-5 times per week in a regular gym and then moved on to a local CrossFit gym that I absolutely fell in love with! I went on to become a Level Certified Trainer in 2014 and then added a Strength & Conditioning CrossFit Football certification in 2016 While competing in rodeo, I was involved in a pretty bad wreck when a horse rolled into a fence with me, fracturing my collar bone, ribs and my spine (L4,L5 &S1). I ended up having a spinal fusion and was completely debilitated for two months before I began the long road to rehabilitation. With my knowledge from coaching, I was able to do my own rehab without a physical therapist, slowly putting myself back together and eventually I looked up and saw that I was better than I had ever been - even before the accident. I began competing in CrossFit about a year after I began my rehabilitation, and worked my way up to the top 2% of the world in Competitive CrossFit physical fitness in 2017. This is one of the accomplishments I'm most proud of, and I believe it makes me a better coach because I had to learn first-hand that through consistency, patience, proper nutrition, goal setting, and the right individualized fitness programs that anything is possible when it comes to improving your health and overall wellness! I feel that my wide range of knowledge and experience allows me to adapt/use many creative methods to achieve each client's individualized goals, whether you want to be an elite level athlete in your sport or want to be a badass at everyday life we are here for you and can help! Had an amazing time on the Podcast with Keith discussing his New Book, the PBR, bull riders, cowboys & history. Keith has the respect, admiration & trust of many inside & outside the bullring world including Ty Murry, Shorty Gorham, Justin McBride, Cody Lambert & J.B. Mauney to name just a few. All I can say is you are going to love this book, Keith's a brilliant writer who captivates the reader with his unrelenting research, truth and story telling. They ride horses, rope calves, buck broncs, ride and fight bulls and they even wrestle steers. They are black cowboys, and the spirit of their pursuits intersected with America's struggle for racial equality, human rights and social justice. “I think your notion of the skills it takes, the horsemanship … you're countering the notion that enslaved people had no skills,” said Lonnie Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute and Founding Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, “and, see, that's an important part of the story.” Beginning at the turn of the 20th century, Black Cowboys of Rodeo is a collection of 100 years-worth of cowboy stories set against the backdrop of segregation, the Civil Rights Movement and eventually the integration of a racially divided country; and told by the unsung heroes whose accomplishments and rightful place in history have been disregarded and all but forgotten. This collection is not a final document. Or a definitive story. It is a work in progress. For many readers, Black Cowboys of Rodeo, which at its core are traditional cowboy stories, is an introduction to a whole new universe of possibilities and an unvarnished, firsthand look at a seldom documented segment of the African American experience. “In the ‘50s and ‘60s, there was a drive among black folks … to excel and overcome all sorts of barriers in order to achieve what they wanted to achieve,” said Rev. James Lawson, leading nonviolence advocate during the Civil Rights Movement. “I'm not surprised at all that a sizable number of black cowboys, who've been misrepresented and not represented in our history books and films, were among those who did that.” Resources: http://keithryancartwright.com/ https://twitter.com/ProfessorKRC?fbclid=IwAR15ug6zYhhOfZ-HjE7ylJOTKJj9_sEjmA7BGulvlPlQFg2ZeqSmu2uUVjs (twitter.com/ProfessorKRC) https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2241209/?fbclid=IwAR3goz7IG5hftc_oReV2WiAWnD-IEcPDGZwlEl5A-3-d13PBjtFL0MeqnRo (imdb.com/name/nm2241209) Show Sponsors: @moderncowboypodcast @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global https://nrsworld.com/collections/modern-cowboy (Modern Cowboy) @nrsworld @twistedx Show Music: “Cowboy” By: Kolt Barber https://www.koltbarber.com/ (https://www.koltbarber.com/) “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand
