This wild and wide-ranging episode of The Liberty Den brings together a rotating cast of Badlands Media hosts for a conversation that starts with heartfelt tribute and quickly spirals into signature late-night madness. The crew opens with a tribute to longtime Badlander Beth, reflecting on her impact in the community and the driving force behind their continued fight against the corruption that took her too soon. From there, the team dives into the latest developments in election integrity, including Tulsi Gabbard's viral comments as DNI, the growing mainstream acknowledgment of rigged machines, and the overdue need for accountability, not just more investigations. The conversation heats up around the No Rogue Rulings Act, the strategy to rein in activist judges, and the unlikely prospects of it passing the Senate. What starts as political analysis quickly snowballs into full-blown conspiracy comedy, with deep dives into FDA food allowances (yes, maggots are allowed), Denver Airport occult lore, and glowing red-eyed horse statues named “Blucifer.” The crew also debates whether Jordan Sather was on Comedy Central, dreams up haunted hotel GART destinations, and even plans to buy a plane while joking about underground bunkers, Space Force bases, and lizard people. Equal parts serious and unhinged, this episode is a perfect slice of Liberty Den, where the rabbit holes are real, the jokes are brutal, and the friendships are bulletproof.
Federal workers across the country are bracing for layoffs, including more than 40,000 right here in Colorado. So, how are Denverites handling all the DOGE cuts? Then, DIA turns 30 today! Producer Paul Karolyi and host Bree Davies are joined by political consultant Deep Singh Badhesha to talk about everything from the famed airport's Blucifer conspiracy theories and tales of a luggage-eating baggage system to the renderings of the next Great Hall renovation and a surprising DIA-Elon Musk connection. Plus, a Colorado lawmaker brings her newborn to Congress, a puppy heist in Centennial, and more wins and fails of the week. Paul discussed our latest interview with Mayor Johnston and the 5280 feature on Scott Derrickson, Colorado director of The Gorge — which you can watch now on Apple TV+. Bree mentioned her friend Alisha Sweeney's long local radio career and the upcoming 303 Day concert. Deep talked about his excitement for the 2026 elections and his new Substack! The Broncos are headed to the playoffs for the first time in nine years. But do they deserve a new stadium? And should taxpayers pay for it? It's Friday and we're looking back at the biggest news of the week, starting with an investigative series from the Denver Post digging into the economics and politics of big stadium projects. Then, beyond Blucifer and the big blue bear, is there a third big blue creature out there? Host Bree Davies, producer Paul Karolyi, and politics and green chile correspondent Justine Sandoval dig into these stories, plus the District 31 senate vacancy vote, a loss for the local music scene, and more highs and lows of the week. Bree talked about our interview with historian David Forsyth about Manhattan Beach and Roger the Elephant. She also mentioned Jason Heller's memorial piece in Westword about the passing of musician Luke Fairchild and you heard from one of his many bands, Kingdom of Magic. She also discussed the Park People's Denver Digs Trees low-cost tree program. Paul mentioned this 1998 article about Kyle Shanahan and the Broncos' campaign for a new stadium, the Littleton rezoning situation, and Matt Ball. Justine talked about snow tires and the state budget deficit. What is your “toxic Colorado trait”? It you're brave enough to share, we want to hear it! Uncovering the Mysteries of Denver International Airport (Part 2) In Part 2 of our exploration of Denver International Airport (DIA), we delve even deeper into the strange and sinister theories surrounding one of the world's most mysterious travel hubs. We tackle the ominous presence of "Blucifer," the massive blue Mustang statue with glowing red eyes, and its tragic connection to the death of its creator. We also investigate the Masonic symbols and eerie plaques found throughout the airport, along with the chilling stories of travelers experiencing lost time and disorientation within its walls. But it doesn't stop there. Is DIA home to secret government labs, advanced surveillance technology, or even interdimensional portals? Could its vast underground structures and advanced systems serve as a command center for a global elite preparing for a doomsday scenario? We unpack these wild claims and more, bringing to light the eerie symbolism, unexplained phenomena, and conspiratorial whispers that make DIA the focal point of so many mysteries. As far as landmarks go, Blucifer is a staple among those flying in and out of Denver International Airport. As far as conspiracies go, the entire property seems to be a breeding ground. Secretly swarming with gargoyles and lizard people, this airport is home to many a creepy painting riddled with hidden meanings, and underground tunnels; a prime location for covert meetings that may or may not be discussing the apocalypse. What does it take to be a true Denverite? There's gotta be a turning point sometime after you first see Blucifer but before you get in your first fight about green chile. The Colorado Supreme Court made international headlines this week when it ruled that former president Donald Trump will not be allowed on our state's 2024 primary ballots. With an appeal to SCOTUS imminent, we're talking about why this happened here in Denver, the fragile state of our democracy, and all the ripple effects across Colorado. Producer Paul Karolyi and host Bree Davies are joined by our politics and green chile correspondent, Justine Sandoval, to break down the local GOP and Democrat responses to the Trump ruling and round up the rest of the week's news, including a pressing question posed by a new report from our friends at Westword: Does “Blucifer” belong to the estate of the artist or the taxpayers? Finally, our predictions for Denver in 2024. Bree mentioned another piece by Luis Jiménez Jr., “End of the Trail (with Electric Sunset),” which was part of the DAM's Desert Rider show earlier this year, and the original by James Earl Fraser. What do you think about Blucifer's ubiquitous likeness? Has the demon horse transcended his creator's vision? Or should the Jiménez estate control his likeness? Since Central and South American migrants started arriving in Denver almost exactly one year ago, more than 30,000 people have arrived looking for support, housing, and all kinds of other help. While city officials are scrambling, everyday Denverites are stepping up — but still, the struggle to help migrants is clashing with Mayor Mike Johnston's last-minute push to house 1,000 people already living in Denver by the end of the year. Host Bree Davies is joined by green chile and politics correspondent Justine Sandoval for a ground-level look at the neighborhood aid work happening across the city. Plus, a listener question pits Blucifer against the Big Blue Bear. And could the solution for our empty office buildings be daycare? Bree mentioned the City of Denver's Newcomers Fund to help migrants, where you can find the city-run toy drive, and Justine mentioned this Denver Post article about Tamales by La Casita. Land-Grant Holy Land's Stick to Sports is unlike any podcast you've heard on the Ohio State beat. Your hosts, Matt Tamanini and Jami Jurich, will (of course) talk Ohio State sports, but the primary focus of the show will be on what's going on around the periphery, such as weird/funny happenings in college football and the sports world at large, as well as other things that keep us interested in between games. On this episode of the Land-Grant Podcast Network's sports-adjacent podcast "Stick to Sports," Matt Tamanini and Jami Jurich laugh nearly uncontrollably about the bumbling nature with which the University of Michigan football program handled its illegal spying program. Was it successful for two years? Who really knows? But the keystone cops' way they went about it makes its unraveling that much funnier. They also dive into how this has brought out the goofiest conspiracy theories from the Corn and Blue fans, reminiscent of one of Jami's favorite conspiracy theories. Finally, they talk about OSU facing Luke Fickell, "Killers of the Flower Moon," and the joys of Hallmark Christmas movies. It's Friday, and we're talking about all the local stories that mattered this week. Way back in November 2019, Colorado voters narrowly approved the legalization of sports betting, taking the illicit hobby out of the shadows and on to our phones! And on billboards! And everywhere else! Sports betting is now a multi-billion-dollar industry with Coloradans chasing the adrenaline rush from the Broncos and the Nuggets to late-night prop bets on the pro cornhole championship. To mark the three-year anniversary of our state's first legal sports bet, Host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi are chatting with 5280 Magazine editor Lindsey B. King, who reported this month's cover story on how sports betting is going mainstream. Then they each share an underreported story from the week and invite Hey Denver newsletter editor Peyton Garcia on to share her best bets for your weekend. We talked tofu, new speed limits, healthcare transparency, and the New York Times' take on Blucifer and DIA. From the Illuminati and the New World Order to the runways and some weird art, there are too many conspiracy theories about DIA to count. We're diving into some of the most popular ones today, though, and what the true story is behind them. Host Bree Davies talks with Denver Public Library's Chris Root about Blucifer, the Leo Tanguma murals, and much more, as well as why DIA has been such a hotspot for conspiracy theories over the years. Read Chris Root's extensive research on DIA conspiracy theories in his blog post for DPL. And you can dive even further into the weirdness with this 2007 Westword article. In the newscast, Bree mentioned videos showing the protests inside the Capitol last week, where students were pressing legislators to address gun violence. Thanks to the Denver Post for their reporting. She also talked about Denverite's coverage of the recent Chubby's inter-family lawsuit; this Westword piece from many years back will give even more backstory on that drama. Plus, Bree mentioned the Pasquini's drama too! So much drama! Come watch Bree read excerpts from her angsty teenage diary at Mortified Live on Thursday, April 13. Tickets are available here. WHAT'S REALLY HAPPENING BENEATH DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT? Since the construction of Denver International Airport (airport code=Denver, nickname=DIA) was finished in 1995, the newest airport in the United States since the 1970s, there have been innumerable conspiracy theories surrounding it. Many of these theories are somewhat supported in a loose fashion by various aspects of the airport from the art that is there to the sheer number of unused buildings and airplane hangars. Below, I'll talk about some of the things that people have theorized about since the airport's inception and whether these thoughts might have the backing or not. To start, you need to know a little bit about its background and the building of the airport itself. These facts lead many conspiracy theorists to surmise that there are things going on at Denver International Airport that people do not want others to know about. Because of the design changes as well as the contract disputes leading to many different workers on the job under different contractors, it is thought that nobody really knows the true scope of the project because its architects wanted it that way. Denver International Airport Construction Workers Building D.I.A. Photo: courtesy of Denver International Airport There are known to be as many as 6 underground levels below the ground floor of DIA and possibly more that are not even known about. Beyond that, there are theories that tunnels exist all the way from the Colorado Springs Air Force Base to DIA and from the Air Force Base to the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in the Rocky Mountains outside of Colorado Springs. The difference in budget certainly leaves room for raised eyebrows as well. Why would it cost so much more money to complete the project than originally estimated? Are there other things that were added later to the project that made it so expensive? The theories can be endless, and they are. Yet, these are legitimate questions that need to be asked; why did the final project cost so much more? The Artwork For all public projects in the City of Denver, 1 percent of the budget for each project has to be allocated towards public art to be put on display there. Because of this, there is a lot of great artwork in DIA. But, some of that art plays right into the hands of conspiracy theorists. Field of Air by Ned Kahn Denver International Airport Conspiracy Theories Field of Air by Ned Kahn at D.I.A. Photo: courtesy of Denver International Airport For instance, besides Blucifer, the demon eyes horse sculpture that killed artist Luis Jimenez during construction, there are 2 other massive murals by Leo Tanguma, which have been theorized to foretell the actual purpose of the airport through messages hidden within the work. You can read a more in-depth article on these murals here. Just taking an initial look at the Tanguma works titled Children of the World Dream of Peace, and In Peace and Harmony with Nature, they show the darker sides of what DIA has been theorized to be. Themes of death, genocide, and an apocalyptic single government world, are seen clearly in the murals despite the uplifting meanings that Tanguma says are the true message. The Dedication Capstone In the Great Hall of DIA, there is a plaque that is a dedication to the airport. On it you might think that the main contributors to the airport might have been the City of Denver or the State of Colorado, however the first name listed on the stone as a contributor is an organization called The New World Airport Commission. D.I.A. Dedication Capstone Braille D.I.A. Capstone in braille. Photo: K W Reinsch This might not seem odd to the casual observer but with a little research, you will find that no organization exists or has existed. The capstone of the airport names an organization that sounds eerily like The New World Order, a supposedly secret society that has far-reaching control from behind the scenes. People often think that DIA was built by them to weather out an apocalypse or extinction event of some kind. Underneath this capstone, there is also a time capsule said to be opened in 2094. Nobody knows what is in the time capsule but there are theories abound pertaining to the secrets or clues that might be locked within underneath this curious dedication to stone of the airport. The Tunnels and Underground Buildings There have long been outspoken people who claim to have gone down many levels under DIA and to have seen the tunnels firsthand. In this article in Westword Magazine, the author talks with Alex Christopher, an older woman who is at the heart of this conspiracy. Just after the airport was built, she met some people at a conference in Denver who took her down there, and later she returned with her friend Phil Schneider. After that, Schneider turned up dead of an apparent suicide. Obviously, fellow theorists are skeptical about that and consider it more of an assassination. Christopher went silent after that but has recently been working on a new film. Also, while the airport was being built, there were 5 buildings that were built below, but for some reason needed to be abandoned. Instead of destroying them, another infrastructure was built on top leading many to wonder just what might be going on in those buildings underneath the ground level. Airport Layout and Other Buildings As with many of the aspects of DIA that play into the hands of conspiracy theorists, the buildings and layout of the airport do as well. Not only is DIA the second largest airport in the world regarding land mass, but there are an untold number of extra buildings and hangars on the property that seem unneeded for a typical airport. What are those buildings for and why did DIA need so much land to sit on? Beyond that, looking at a bird's eye view of DIA, all the runways and terminals together can be construed in the shape of a swastika. There can be interpreted Nazi themes in artwork previously mentioned so the layout of the airport seems very curious with both on its grounds. Furthermore, all the fences at DIA also have barbed wire curiously facing inward. Some theories around DIA suspect that it will be used as a prison or concentration camp in the future, so this wire is thought to be there to keep people in, not out. Other Thoughts on What Happens at DIA There have been many other theories about DIA. Some think it is the host of ‘Area 52', aptly named after the real United States Government ‘secret' base, Area 51. While theories about Area 51 are ubiquitous about aliens, downed UFOs, and extraterrestrial life being held there, many people believe that DIA also may have unknown government secrets stored deep underneath it as well. More reasonably, people surmise that DIA will be the United States Militaries' headquarters if a war breaks out on its home soil or for other similar reasons. There is enough room for airplanes to be stored, barracks underneath, and infrastructure above for operations as needed. DIA is also under new renovations slated to be completed in 2021 with much of the current airport being worked on behind new barriers that help jokingly question what is really happening there. You never know what new conspiracy theories will pop up now that DIA is under construction again. The theories of old will always grasp at straws but with new construction comes new thoughts on what the New World Order or others might be up to with Denver International Airport. We highly encourage anyone going to DIA to check out the plaques, murals, and other oddities throughout the airport which have been written about by countless different theorists. Not only are they interesting to see and experience firsthand, but they also might leave visitors with a lot more questions than answers.

Bathed in searing cobalt blue paint and gazing at the world through glaring red eyes, the 30-foot tall horse statue known as Mustang (or Blucifer to the locals) has welcomed travelers to the American West via the Denver International airport for more than a decade. But there is a lot more to the story of this horse than its striking looks. It comes with a melancholy and deadly history all its own, which Allison and Chris discuss in depth. Not to be outdone, however, the Denver Airport itself is a conspiracy magnet and comes packed with all sorts of strange artwork that many believe to contain code about the New World Order.Credits:Graphics -- Nathaniel DicksonMusic -- Spencer MorelockAdditional Info:The Blue Mustang StatueWonderland of the Weird Video on MustangThe Chatty Gargoyle
