The march towards a more robust hydrogen energy economy seems inevitable, but what's left to be written is the timeframe and the manner in which that journey plays out. As a decarbonization option, an alternative fuel opportunity, and more, hydrogen will play a key role in our energy systems of tomorrow. But as those developments play out in the future, critical to today is continuing to advance safety measures to ensure that process moves along smoothly. Today's episode of the Energy Central Power Perspectives Podcast is the final installment in our series with H2scan diving into the world of hydrogen detecting and monitoring through all aspects of energy. This episode features Michael Nofal, H2scan's Vice President of Global Sales and Business Development, and Gid Herman, Director of Sales and Business Development, with this dynamic duo leading the way when it comes to ensuring hydrogen detection technology advances to keep pace with the hydrogen economy to ensure safety issues are never a concern or impediment to the future of hydrogen. Listen in as Michael and Gid chat with podcast host Jason Price and producer Matt Chester on what energy leaders should be doing today and in the years to come with regard to hydrogen monitoring technologies and safety measures. While the role of the utility has evolved over time, and especially in recently years, one area of concern has been atop the priorities for the industry's entire history: safety. When dealing with powerful equipment, potentially volatile fuels, and a grid infrastructure that is ubiquitous, ensuring that none of this leads to unnecessary risks or outcomes to people, property, and the environment is paramount. The tools required to ensure a top-tier level of safety in the power sector can be extensive, but detecting the presence of hydrogen gas where it's not supposed to be has been critical for many years, whether utility professionals actively recognized such monitoring was taking place. In this second installment in the Energy Central Power Perspectives Podcast series with H2scan, Jeff Donato joins the podcast booth to discuss the importance of and trends in hydrogen detection for safety. As H2scan's Sales Director of Safety Products, Jeff shares with podcast host Jason Price and producer Matt Chester the ins and outs of this essential but too often overlooked measure of utility safety. Hydrogen has become a buzzword in the energy sector recently, but many in the utility sector may not have realized how critical hydrogen gas has been for the power grid for decades. Rather than being a matter of producing hydrogen as an energy source, though, the key use case has been monitoring the generation of byproduct hydrogen gas by power transformers and using that as a way to monitor health and status of these critical grid assets. In today's environment of supply chain challenges for major grid equipment and a renewed focus on the safety and security of utility assets, staying on top of the most modern version of the sensors needed to detect hydrogen gas has become more important than ever before. And that's why today's conversation with two of H2scan's key leaders is so timely. Bill Whitehead, International Accounts Director, and Leon White, VP of Transformer Sales & Business Development, join today's episode to provide the education on this critical topic to those for whom it's flown under the radar and to advance the conversation to the latest and greatest capabilities of hydrogen sensors for transformers moving forward. Listen in as Bill and Leon share with podcast host Jason Price and producer Matt Chester what they need to know, teasing out the first in a three-part series highlighting this essential technology. He talks a little Colorado college football, some stories from his days in the NFL with the Rams, and it's all wrestling from there - from how he got his name to his early training days to his first match against Bruiser Brody to landing with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
On this episode host Karl Stern (DragonKingKarl) takes a look at the monster Big Van Vader. Leon White originally debuted in the AWA as a former NFL football star, but after going to Japan and being given the gimmick of the space monster Big Van Vader, his career opened up internationally in a big way, including a riot against Antonio Inoki, almost losing an eye against Stan Hansen, world titles in Mexico, Japan, Europe, and the United States. Big Van Vader was a giant star literally and figuratively.
Kris & David are back this week with a Patreon pick, as Mike Poulin put down the $25 for us to talk about the week-plus that was April 6-13, 1986. We start off with the WWF, which of course means WrestleMania 2—which was covered unusually in-depth by mid-1980s Observer standards—as we talk about both the business end in-ring ends of the show, which, at that time, featured Dave Meltzer's pick for the worst match of all time. We then go International, talking about Hiroshi Wajima starting up his training in the All Japan dojo, rumors of Lex Luger heading to New Japan, the death of El Solitario, and more. Back in the United States, we talk about the burgeoning babyface indie scene, some great Memphis TV featuring Jos LeDuc as well as Jeff Jarrett's first TV match, Dick Slater whipping Sting's ass in the locker room (complete with Tracy Smothers' eyewitness account), the Freebirds teasing a breakup in Dallas, and, among other things, ”Baby Bull" Leon White getting an AWA World Heavyweight Title program with champion Stan Hansen. We then close with an unusually slim Jim Crockett Promotions section, but it features some great Ric Flair vs. Ricky Morton feud clips from a weekend where they dominated the TV shows. All that and much more on a WrestleMania-heavy edition of Between The Sheets!Timestamps:0:00:00 WWF1:41:52 Int'l: AJPW, NJPW, Stampede, El Solitario, EMLL, Monterrey, UWA, & WWC2:00:45 Classic Commercial Break2:05:20 Halftime2:28:47 USA East: NWF, PWUSA, CWF, CCW, & Memphis3:09:45 USA West: UWF, Houston, WCCW, TASW, Central States, AWA, & Portland4:11:12 Jim Crockett Promotions4:37:19 Patreon Preview: The WWF issues a press release bragging about WrestleMania III's record-breaking attendance…of 88,000?!?!?!?To support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. In this month's edition we weigh Big Van Vader's GWCW ballot. We first talk about Leon White the man and how made his way into wrestling, then move on to his career taking off in Japan and his brutal matches with Stan Hansen and just how an eye can fall out in a wrestling match. Then the golden era, his first match with Sting and then the greatness that is The White Castle of Fear and the Beach Blast mini-movies. We talk about Cheatum's short WCW career and how Vader packed much more sensibly than Sid Vicious. From there we look at Vader's feud with the man known as Ray Traylor, the Boss, We conclude with Vader's face turn and what could have been. Matches Include: VAN VADER VS Z-MAN (GREAT AMERICAN BASH 1990) VADER VS STAN HANSEN (WRESTLEWAR 1991) VADER VS STING (02/15/92 POWER HOUR; 8:01) VADER VS RICKY STEAMBOAT (10/16/93 WCWSN; HUMAN CAGE; 24:06) VADER VS THE BOSS (SPRING STAMPEDE 1994) VADER VS STING VS GUARDIAN ANGEL (FALL BRAWL 1994, TRIANGLE ELIMINATION MATCH) RIC FLAIR & ARN ANDERSON VS VADER (CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS XXXI)

It's the mid 1990s. Wrestling is exploding like never before. Not only is the landscape of the business changing as the Monday Night Wars begin to form, but new and exciting talent is bursting on the scene. Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Cory "The Cory" Matthews. These names will forever go down in wrestling history as representatives of their era and The Shoot Show is here to tell you about, arguably, the most famous at the time. Boy Meets World featured several wrestlers in its 7 season run, but this episode takes you down the arc of the most memorable to be featured on the show, Vader. Over 3 appearances between 3 seasons, Leon White impresses with his screen presence, comedic timing and, of course, dem barks. So tear your shirt and scream "TOPANGAAA", because we're all learning how to love on this Shoot Show.
Big Van Vader, one part Darth Vader, two parts Bain and 100% the inspiration behind Billy Madison's the Revolting Blob. The man weighed in at 400 lbs and had a helmet and was widely regarded as the greatest super heavyweight in pro wrestling history. He simultaneously held world heavyweight titles with three different promotions on three continents & his in the ring shenanigans resulted in Rick Foley's ear getting ripped off and his own eye once popped out of its' socket. Prior to his career as a global wrestler, he was a college football star who briefly played in the NFL.

Tweet Brian Isley re-joins the panel as the third man as the trio discusses some of the hot topics in the world of professional wrestling. First, Vaughn, Nick and Brian reminisce about the life and career of Leon White, better known to wrestling fans as Vader (or Big Van Vader). Earlier in the week, the big man passed away at the age of 63 due to ongoing health issues. The guys discuss their thoughts on the career of Vader and his impact on the wrestling business from early on in his career, to his days in WCW with great matches against Sting and a slew of others, to his days in the WWF as The Mastodon and his career after leaving the company. They also talk about his appearances on "Boy Meets World" as both a wrestler from WCW and WWF, which was pretty unique back in the day. The guys briefly discuss All-In and Cody Rhodes' and The Young Bucks' decision to agree to a licensing deal to broadcast the show. On what platform will they broadcast? They talk about it. WWE blocking Ring of Honor from running an event at Madison Square Garden? Talk about petty. But it's nothing the guys didn't see coming. They discuss the report that Ring of Honor was blocked by WWE from running MSG and if that means WWE is planning a MSG show of their own down the road during WrestleMania 35 weekend, or any other upcoming dates. Big Cass was unceremoniously released from WWE and not even wished luck on his future endeavors. What happened? What went wrong? The guys talk about it, including the revelation that Carmella is the last one standing from their previous trio of Enzo/Cass/Carmella in NXT. Ronda Rousey has proven her worth inside the ring and out. She wrestled a great match against Nia Jax at Money in the Bank, and had another awesome showing on Raw the night after before "being suspended" for 30 days. Powerbombing Alexa Bliss through a table was clearly a sign that Rousey's days as Raw Women's Champion are closer than we think, according to Nick. The guys discuss her progress and how good she's gotten in such a short time both on the mic, which was the glaring weakness upon her debut, to in the ring, which hasn't been a weakness yet. We were all shocked this morning to learn of the passing of Leon "Big Van Vaer" White. Leon was able to successfully transition from the NFL to wrestling like Wahoo McDaniel and Manny Fernandez. Starting with the AWA his career took him to WCW, WWF and a highly successful run in Japan, where he was held in the same regard as Bruiser Brody and Stan Hansen. We will spend the first part of our show discussing his career with various people who had a connection to him. In hour two we will be joined by Southern Illinois promoter Frank Root of Rampage Championship Wrestling. This weekend they perform their second benefit to aid Special Olympics. We will also discuss more upcoming events for the promotion. Finally we will be joined by one of our long time friends, Kacee Carlisle. The "Guardian Of The Gold" currently holds nine different championships. We'll see where her travels have taken her and where they may take her in the future. Get ready for a very interesting evening.

Ahead of the season two premiere of G.L.O.W., the legendary Chavo Guerrero Jr. stops by to discuss his role in the Netflix show, playing Kerwin White and his late, great uncle Eddie (1:38:55). Brian Campbell and Adam Silverstein open this week's program with a tribute to Leon White, the man known as Vader who died Monday at age 63, before discussing the overwhelming success of NXT TakeOver: Chicago, whether it was better than the New Orleans show a few months ago and what's to come from the brand (10:15). The guys also look at whether the last few days of WWE programming, highlighted by the tremendous booking of Ronda Rousey, has saved the main roster as it goes full-steam ahead to SummerSlam (46:30). BC and The Silver King also look at more fallout from Money in the Bank and the newly released lineup for NJPW G1 Climax 28 this summer (1:12:15). The guys then hammer out a lightning round of Hero or Zero (1:22:55) before wrapping everything up with their Feel Spots for the week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Money In The Bank and NXT TakeOver: Chicago are in the books and we have SOOOO much to discuss. For example-you guys, how good is Ronda Rousey? She's incredible, right? So when do you let her start facing dudes? Could she be a heavyweight champion one day? We discuss all of that plus the fallout from Alexa Bliss' MITB win/cash-in, Braun's MITB win and the end of Styles/Nakamura. How could they do Nakamura so badly? All of that plus Big Cass is gone, Rusev is #1 contender and so much more in the fallout of the weekend. In Segment 2 (48:41), we remember the late great Big Van Vader after Leon White passed away this week at the age of 63. He was an incredibly gifted big man, he will be remembered by a generation for being a really pivotal cameo star on Boy Meets World, others for not being a fan of "flippy shit" and we're not thrilled the WWE didn't induct him to the Hall of Fame before he passed away. After that we jumped to the fallout from NXT this weekend-how quickly will Velveteen Dream become NXT champion? And in Segment 3 (1:12:43), Ring of Honor star Vinny Marseglia joined us to discuss "Best in The World" next weekend at Baltimore's UMBC Events Center, being "The Horror King," being part of Ring Of Honor's three man tag team champs "The Kingdom," and more. After that we talked about the Ring Of Honor/Madison Square Garden fallout (does it have anything to do with WWE?), WWE recognizing Kenny Omega and is Brock Lesnar going to fight for the UFC Heavyweight title for some stupid reason?

Big Van Vader aka Leon White was the first big man to do a moonsault! He tells that story, and takes us inside the ring for his matches with Bruiser Brody, Sting, Harley Race, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and Inoki. Plus, his eye-popping injury! And the fact & fiction of the Arn Anderson/Sid Vicious stabbing incident. Both Stone Cold & Vader were there!
Leon White aka Big Van Vader had a heck of a conversation with Steve Austin... and this here's only the beginning! He talks a little Colorado college football, some stories from his days in the NFL with the Rams, and it's all wrestling from there - from how he got his name to his early training days to his first match against Bruiser Brody to landing with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
