The Holy Evil War is getting ready to pop off, as we get a lot of world building from Griffith's apostle-infused side of the battle: He has giants, he has superpowered men, he has shadowy supernatural assassins, all set to...liberate Midland? He's trying to be the savior of the world, using his powers of The Prince of Longing to make his new subjects fall in love with him. Also, Farnesse has another existential crisis, but this one is full of hope and acceptance as she navigates her new purpose in life, and, for now, leaves the despair behind her.
If you've ever wondered why your dungeon feels less like a terrifying crawl through the dark and more like a grayscale video game, this episode shines a light on everything wrong—and weird—about darkvision. In this remastered and updated episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the hosts revisit one of their most debated topics: how vision mechanics function in tabletop RPGs, especially Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder. They dive deep into how different systems handle lighting, visibility, and the ever-confusing rules around darkvision. The episode unpacks the practical and narrative implications of light and darkness on exploration, combat, and roleplay—while also poking fun at the sheer absurdity of adventurers who can see in total darkness but never think to bring a lantern. Whether you're a rules lawyer, a narrative-driven GM, or just someone who's tired of arguing over torches, this episode casts a light on what works, what doesn't, and how to make vision mechanics better at your table. Key Discussion Points: Darkvision is Overused Most fantasy races have darkvision, which undermines the significance of light sources and ambient visibility mechanics in dungeon crawls and wilderness travel. Darkness Isn't a Binary The hosts break down how various RPG systems treat “darkness” as either full concealment or simply a lighting condition—highlighting how this impacts realism and gameplay clarity. Low-Light Vision, Infrared, and Blindsight There's a whirlwind of different vision types across systems. The crew discusses how these interact with rules as written, and how easily they're misinterpreted or misused. Narrative Consequences of Light Lighting impacts tone, mood, and narrative. A well-placed torch can heighten suspense; a spell like Darkness can reshape a battlefield. Mechanical Consequences Fighting in dim light? You might have disadvantage. No vision in magical darkness? Better hope someone brought See Invisibility or Devil's Sight. The hosts detail how to make vision a tactical element again. The “Human Tax” Playing a human or other race without darkvision often feels like a penalty, rather than a tradeoff. The crew discusses how to rebalance the lighting meta to make non-darkvision races feel less punished. Solutions for GMs From clever dungeon design to creative lighting rules, the team suggests practical strategies for making light and darkness relevant again—without slowing down the game. The Meta Problem Darkvision often becomes an assumed default at many tables. The episode closes with a call to reevaluate assumptions and bring tension back to the dark. Key Takeaways: Darkvision is often poorly explained, inconsistently applied, and over-relied upon. Making light meaningful again requires buy-in from both players and GMs. Vision types beyond darkvision (like tremorsense or truesight) are powerful tools—but can be balance-breaking if unchecked. Lighting should be a storytelling element as well as a mechanical tool. Consider adding environmental challenges, magical lighting effects, and vision-blocking terrain to elevate encounters. Don't be afraid to reward clever lighting solutions or punish parties who ignore visibility as a tactical factor. A torchlit dungeon is more exciting than one where everyone sees perfectly in grayscale. Welcome to The Daily, where we go through the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every single day. We are approaching the end of Ecclesiastes, and the Gospel of Mark is next. Go to the website and grab the Scriptural Journal for this study so you can study along with us. If you are a donor who gives $35/month or more, you will receive one of these for free each time we begin a new study, as long as we have your current mailing address. You also get a few more benefits by becoming a monthly or annual donor, like video access to the website, and you can see all those benefits at the link in the description today. Either way, get your Scripture Journal now so you can take notes and follow along. Today, we're looking at Ecclesiastes 11:7-8: Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun. So if a person lives many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember that the days of darkness will be many. All that comes is vanity. — Ecclesiastes 11:7-8 Life is a gift. Solomon reminds us to enjoy it—to see the light, feel the warmth, and enjoy the good days. There's something sacred about the simplicity of a sunrise, a shared meal, or a laugh with a friend. These are glimpses of God's goodness in a world that often feels heavy. But Solomon adds a sobering reminder: "The days of darkness will be many." Life has darkness. Seasons of loss. Moments of grief. Times when the light isn't so visible. And we shouldn't be surprised when they come. Still, the contrast makes the sun sweeter. The joy of life isn't found in pretending the dark days don't exist—but in choosing to rejoice while we can. Not in a shallow, Instagram-worthy way—but in a deep, grounded gratitude that sees every moment as grace. The call here is to live with balance. Rejoice fully. Remember frankly. Don't cling to the delusion that life will always be easy. But don't grow so cynical that you miss the beauty right before you. Savor the good gifts of God today. And who prepare your hearts to trust God when the shadows fall tomorrow. #LifeIsAGift, #Ecclesiastes11, #DailyDevotional ASK THIS: What simple joys has God placed in your life recently? How do you respond when the dark days come? In what ways can you practice grounded gratitude today? Are you living with a healthy balance of rejoicing and remembering? DO THIS: Today, pause and savor one good gift from God—a sunrise, a smile, or a moment of stillness. PRAY THIS: Father, help me rejoice in the light and prepare my heart for the shadows. Teach me to see each moment as grace from You. Amen. PLAY THIS: Fountains + Came To My Rescue.

3.12.25 - Light and Darkness - Lorenzo Romero by JLRV | Jesucristo La Roca Viva
There is a reason Judas and the crowd came to arrest Jesus at night; they didn't want anyone to see their actions. Even in the midst of this dark moment, Jesus speaks to the shadows, casting light into the darkness. How can we be a people that brings light to the shadows of our lives? This message is taught from using the passage of Luke 22:47-53.
Friends, it is far better to imitate God and walk in love. Listen in to hear more
John 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. I'm not sure whether this is an encouragement today as much as it is a reality we need to be aware of as we live to love with Jesus. Not everyone is going to understand or embrace the love of Jesus. I suggested yesterday that Jesus is life; His life is the light of the world, and the light of His life is love. John informed his readers of the relationship of Jesus' light to the domain of darkness. The light of His love is incomprehensible to those who are in darkness. Later in John's gospel, he wrote that God judged the world by shining His light. John 3:19-20. “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” So we should understand that if we love someone who is in darkness, they are not going to recognize it as love. In fact, they probably will hate you for it because it exposes their lack of love for people and their love for the darkness. This highlights this sobering reality. One has to be rescued from the darkness in order to be able to see the shining light of God's love. Now we come to the encouragement today. If you understand God's love, His glory, which shines in the face of Christ, then you have been rescued and saved out of the domain of darkness. Listen/read what Paul wrote to the Colossians in chapter 1:13-14 and rejoice in God's love for you. “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” And again in 2 Corinthians 4:6, "For God, who said, 'Light shall shine out of darkness,' is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." Therefore, as we live to love with Jesus, we can know that if anyone recognizes His love in us, it is because God either is rescuing or has rescued them from darkness. His life in us, shining His love in and through us, is still judging the world. As He puts people in our paths, we can watch where God is working and where He is not as we boldly love and proclaim the gospel that God rescues people out of darkness through faith in Jesus Christ, His Son. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of “giving it forward,” so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. In this episode, we delve into a haunting tale that grapples with the concept of morality and consequence, essentially asking the question: what are we willing to sacrifice for wealth and success? The narrative introduces us to Sir Dominic Sarsfield, a once-illustrious character fallen into despair, who encounters an enigmatic figure that offers him a tempting bargain. We explore themes of desperation, temptation, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness as Sir Dominic weighs his soul against the allure of riches and glory. We journey through Sir Dominic's life, filled with revelry and excess, as he revels in a world of parties, wine, and lavish living. However, his fortune takes a turn when his vices lead him down a precarious path, pushing him toward a fateful decision. By meeting with an otherworldly being in the depths of the renowned Maroa Wood, Sarsfield finds himself ensnared in a deal with unforeseen ramifications. Each moment of frivolity is juxtaposed with the haunting reality of potential loss, as Sir Dominic is urged to consider what will happen when the clock strikes midnight on the final day of February. As the pact unfolds, we witness the gradual corruption of Sir Dominic's character and the toll that his choices take on both his own life and the lives of those around him. The supernatural element is woven seamlessly into the narrative, illustrating the folly of seeking shortcuts to happiness and the dire consequences of forgetting one's moral compass. The tension builds as the deadline looms, culminating in a breakdown of trust and sanity amidst a backdrop of revelry and dread.Ultimately, the story serves as a chilling reminder of the fragility of life and wealth, emphasizing that no amount of gold can shield one from the gravity of their choices. Listeners are left reflecting on the value of integrity versus the seductive nature of temptation, and the ultimate fate that befalls those who seek gain at the expense of their soul. As the chilling conclusion reveals the inescapable consequences of Sir Dominic's decisions, we are compelled to consider our own choices within this timeless tale of old-world terror.

It is difficult to comprehend the darkness to which we are accustomed. However, when a significant light is present, then the contrast becomes clear. Jesus was and is the light of the world. He is the contrast. There is nothing else like Him.
Prince Salim grows up in the continuously expanding empire of his father, Akbar. The young prince is being primed to take on this legacy, but he is more interested in studying the natural world with intense curiosity by dissecting animals and observing their mating rituals. Later, with Akbar dead and Salim ready to rule, he fights off claims to power from his own son, blinding him as punishment for his insubordination. In 1605, Prince Salim becomes Emperor Jahangir, but is it his love of nature or his brutish desire for revenge that characterises his rule? Is he more David Attenborough or Hannibal Lecter?
