Full Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/cage-the-elephantSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeCage the Elephant was formed nearly 20 years ago in Bowling Green by vocalist Matt Shultz, guitarists Brad Shultz and Lincoln Parish, drummer Jared Champion, and bassist Daniel Tichenor. That core lineup has only changed once, with Nick Bockrath replacing Parish onstage in 2013 and officially in 2017. CTE's earliest albums—2008's Cage the Elephant and 2011's Thank You, Happy Birthday—captured their punk-rock pandemonium that turned venues into hurricanes. Cage's mayhem cloaked melodies, like a Trojan horse creating early-career earworms and sing-alongs out of hits “In One Ear,” “Ain't No Rest for the Wicked,” “Shake Me Down,” and “Aberdeen.” 2013's Melophobia brandished a trio of mellower, melodious singles: “Come A Little Closer,” “Take It or Leave It,” and “Cigarette Daydreams.” Then, 2015's Tell Me I'm Pretty saw the band enter Easy Eye Sound to work with Dan Auerbach, sending the band's sonics back to the '60s with an emphasis on direct, pointed performances and console-driven fuzz. Their last two albums, 2019's Social Cues and 2024's Neon Pill, partnered them with producer John Hill, who helped wrap their memorable hooks in a smokier, after-hours backdrop that incorporated '80s sheen with drum machines, shifting synth textures, and sleek production that pulses with flow and emotion. The constant glue that holds these albums together (aside from the members' cohesive creativity) is the constant application—in varied amounts—of garage rock, psychedelia, and a little bit of danger. Even their softest, smoothest work portrays these gripping vibes. And while the velvet packaging of their songs have them sounding more Abbey Road than Albini—earning the group back-to-back Grammys for Best Rock Album for Tell Me I'm Pretty and Social Cues—the Shultz brothers still bring their signature piss-and-vinegar performances to the stage, where the front row will likely play host to both throughout any given setlist. Before the band's Bonnaroo set on Saturday June 15, Cage the Elephant invited PG's video team to their rehearsals inside East Nashville's Steel Mill space to cover the gear they'd be touring with in support of their sixth album, Neon Pill. On guitar, lap steel, and pedal steel, Nick Bockrath starts off the Rundown going through his sizzling setup that includes custom guitars, a bountiful pedalboard, and a special instrument from a deceased friend and Nashville legend. Then, tech Mason Osman details how Brad Shultz transformed his rig to mimic his preferred recording setup that relies on studio tube preamps and compressors for a direct, broiling sound. Lastly, tech Bailey Griffith shows a simplified-but-tsunami-sounding bass setup that includes two Fender 4-strings and 300W tube heads that kick like a mule. 571. This week we talk to Hans Rasmussen about the book he edited, A Girl's Life in New Orleans: The Diary of Ella Grunewald, 1884–1886. “A Girl's Life in New Orleans presents the diary of Ella Grunewald, an upper-middle-class teenager in New Orleans at the end of the nineteenth century. Grunewald, the daughter of one of the Crescent City's leading music dealers, used her journal to record the major events of her day-to-day life, documenting family, friendships, schooling, musical education, and social activities. Her entries frequently describe illness, death, and other tragedies. Though attentive to the city's classical music scene, Grunewald also recounts theater shows, Carnival balls and parades, Catholic religious observances, and the World's Fair that the city hosted in 1884.” Hans Rasmussen is head of Special Collections Technical Services at LSU Libraries in Baton Rouge. This week's guest, Diana Zaheer, has been guiding people through their inner journey's for 30 years. Diana's healing work combines teachings and practices from many different traditions and cultures, and has a distinctive mothering style — as you'll see. Following in the footsteps of many of her teachers, Diana has done most of her work out of the public eye, supporting thousands of people through her virtual and in-person groups and sessions for individuals, couples, and families. But in response to the great need for support during the COVID pandemic, she began designing public teachings, including the spoken word musical collaboration with Lincoln Parish called Over the Counter Meditations. She is currently working on several writing projects, and in 2022 she launched a podcast called two wise women talking, with her longtime friend, and marriage and family therapist colleague, Shiera Kahn. In this episode, we talk about: Learning to feel and sense the flow of the life force The different flavors of mothering energy What happens when we realize we don't know what we're doing on this planet And so much more! If you'd like to find out more about Diana or get in touch with her, check out her website: https://innerharborteachings.com/ And if you'd like to listen to her podcast, Two Wise Women with Sheira Kahn, you can listen now here: https://open.spotify.com/show/7uEAbd5D9bw1B5GajYZzAT?nd=1&si=zGJ9nV7MRJu8gHuIMyPBLQ

In a special episode of Jrodconcerts: The Podcast LIVE, Jamie Rodriguez is joined by our friend Alicia Blue, recently named one of American Songwriter's "16 Artists to Watch in 2023 for a track-by-track analysis of Inner Child Work. Pt. 1 is out now, and Pt. 2 arrives March 3. An expansive and gorgeous musical project, Inner Child Work is a wonderful musical project that follows themes of self-awareness, new beginnings and drastic changes in life's directions. Alicia found herself working with Nashville-based songwriter and producer Lincoln Parish, (originally of the band Cage the Elephant), who helped to provide a solid musical foundation for her songs so she could focus on doing her best and most creative writing work to date. Recording in Nashville also gave Alicia a perspective on her life in Los Angeles. Having been born and raised in Southern California, and never having left the city, not even for college, she began to see in hindsight how much personal turmoil she had navigated through her years there, she then decided to move her life to Nashville to find herself where she has been an instant favorite for the music community, fans and critics alike.

You may know Lincoln Parish from his years with the hugely successful band Cage the Elephant, but there's so much more to his story than that. We talk a bit about his early days growing up in Bowling Green, Kentucky, touring with, writing, and playing lead guitar for Cage, and his decision to leave the band in 2013 to write the next chapter of his life as a record producer in Nashville. We take a dive into his producing philosophy, the projects he's produced and is working on now, the fear of forgetting songs on stage, and much more. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ted-marotta/support

Todd is back, in studio this time, with his #3pick!! Todd tells the story of seeing Cage the Elephant in concert and getting kicked in the head by lead singer Matthew Shultz! We also discuss how this wild lead singer might be looked back on by the next generation of listeners... Melophobia is the third studio album by American rock band Cage the Elephant. Recorded at St. Charles in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by Jay Joyce, the album was released on October 8, 2013, through RCA Records. It is also the final album that features lead guitarist Lincoln Parish. For Melophobia, Cage the Elephant attempted to distance themselves from comparisons of the sound that influenced them, shutting themselves off from as much recorded music as possible. Melophobia means "fear of music"; the band did not view the term literally, but rather thought of the term as "a fear of creating music to project premeditated images of self, like catering to cool, or making music to project an image of being intellectual or artistic or poetic, rather than just trying to be an honest communicator." *** Todd's bio : Award-winning Todd Anstett has brought the world 'VRS - Be Kind, Rewatch'. He is also a meteorologist located in East Coast Canada. A slightly younger perspective on the show leanings to more of a modern rock presentation.

After fronting bands for over six years, he decided to start performing solo after inspiration sparked working with former Cage The Elephant member Lincoln Parish. Jonathon spent time living and writing in Los Angeles, focusing on creating his sound, with influences from artists such as Imagine Dragons, Phantogram and Imogen Heap. Having recently moved back to Nashville, Jonathon’s upcoming debut will merge genres in alternative and pop, with hints of blues, electronic, and his permanent roots of rock. Thanks to our sponsors! He takes us through his experiences of hustling music as an indie unknown artist, figuring out Nashville, and then producing tracks and music for well-known artists. Let's not forget about That Sound, a sound sampling company that specializes in drums and packages the tracks to make producing easier and creating possibilities for producers to take their tracks to the next level. You should visit for more information and if you're new. They're offering $5 off your first order. Dustin shares his vision of That Sound and what a producer is. Then we tackle Zayde Wolf. Is Zayde, Dustin or the other way around? At the helm is Dustin but Zayde is always his Mr. Hyde. Dustin takes us through conception to the present where his creative empire began with one song by accident and has since skyrocketed to include over 489,000 Spotify monthly listeners with 29 million streams, 9 million YouTube views, and 88,000 YouTube subscribers. You can pre-order the deluxe version of Zayde's latest record Modern Alchemy that is being released on October 26th anywhere music is sold but in the meantime visit for everything and follow Zayde Wolf @zaydewolf
