Introducing our Field Ethos South Connection and host, John Hill, who has a fireside chat with our own Jason Vincent.
Send us Fan MailIn this episode, Chasity Owens and Scott Kuhlman are LIVE again at IAAI International Training Conference with a live conversation featuring Fire Investigator and IAAI's 2026 Investigator of the Year Adam Holloway of Genesis Forensics and Fire Investigator John Hill of National Fire Experts. Both Adam and John are Eastern Kentucky University graduates who entered the fire investigation industry from the private sector and now help develop the next generation of investigators through internships, mentorship, and entry-level training programs. The conversation explores the challenges students face when trying to break into fire investigation, what employers should consider when building internship programs, and why real-world field exposure, strong methodology, communication skills, and persistence matter. They also discuss the importance of networking through local IAAI chapters, mentorship from experienced investigators, and how students can stand out in interviews by understanding fire dynamics, the scientific method, and the definition of fire. The episode also highlights upcoming fire investigation training opportunities, the “Can You Use It in a Sentence?” segment on thermoplastics, and Adam's work with the IAAI Marine Fire Investigation Endorsement Program, including how the hands-on course uses real burned vessels, interviews, case studies, and origin-and-cause presentations to prepare investigators for marine fire scenes.Thank you for listening! In this episode of The Broadband Bunch, host Pete Pizzutillo sits down with John Hill from GVTC to talk about how broadband providers can move beyond AI hype and start applying it in practical, meaningful ways. John tells about his path into telecom and how GVTC has evolved from a rural provider into a fast-growing fiber network. The conversation highlights how AI is already reshaping marketing, customer analytics, and forecasting, with real examples of how John uses AI tools to dramatically reduce analysis time and uncover new business insights. They also discuss the cultural and operational shifts required for successful AI adoption. John emphasizes that progress starts with curiosity, experimentation, and strong collaboration between business and IT teams. Rather than forcing top-down mandates, GVTC encourages employees to explore AI in their own workflows and share results across the organization. The episode underscores a clear message for broadband operators: companies that embrace AI now—through better data practices, agile thinking, and a willingness to adapt—will be better positioned to compete, grow, and negotiate from strength in an increasingly competitive fiber market.

Owners Eliza and John Hill opened the indoor venue in northern Colorado Springs late last year.
John Hill was lying in a hospital bed after surviving a massive heart attack when he faced a life-altering choice: give up, or stay and find a higher purpose. Choosing to stay, John walked away from his stable job with only one paycheck left, no safety net, and a yellow legal pad to map out a business idea that experts called "the worst model ever." He set out to clean up a dirty industry by doing the unthinkable—personally guaranteeing the work of contractors to protect homeowners. In this interview, John sits down with Ryan Atkinson to share how he built The Good Contractors List, a company that has backed over $5 billion in work and paid out $127,000 in claims to fix bad jobs. He reveals why the "sell the lead" model is broken and how his unique approach of "giving more than you take" created a community-driven ecosystem that generates revenue without sacrificing integrity. You'll learn why ignoring "business experts" was the best decision John ever made, how to identify if you are a Visionary or an Integrator, and the crucial difference between self-promotion and community authority. We also dive deep into how faith fueled John through financial rock bottom and the practical steps entrepreneurs can take to build a business that prioritizes purpose over profit.Takeaways:- Purpose Beats Credentials: John didn't have a business degree or a safety net; he had a "hospital bed promise" to live with purpose. This intrinsic motivation fueled him through obstacles that would have stopped a purely profit-driven founder. - The "Anti-Lead" Business Model: John disrupted the industry by refusing to sell leads. Instead of charging per lead (which incentivizes quantity over quality), he charges a flat membership fee, aligning his success with the contractor's reputation rather than their marketing spend.- Validate with Sales, Not Software: You don't need a website to start. John launched his business with a yellow legal pad and a pen, collecting checks and validating the concept before spending a dime on digital infrastructure.- Ignore the "Experts": Multiple business consultants told John his model—personally guaranteeing contractor work—was "suicide." He ignored them, and that specific differentiator is what allowed him to back over $5 billion in projects.- The Visionary vs. Integrator Dynamic: John struggled with structure until he recognized he was a "Visionary" and needed an "Integrator" partner to handle operations. Knowing your personality type is crucial for scaling past the startup phase.-Crowdsourced Quality Control: Instead of just hunting for contractors himself, John built a referral program where he pays homeowners and other contractors to refer trusted pros, effectively letting the community build his vetting pipeline.- Risk is Lower Than You Think: Guaranteeing work sounds risky, but the data proves otherwise. Because the vetting process is so strict, The Good Contractors List has only had to pay out ~$127,000 on $5 billion worth of jobs.- Give More Than You Take: This isn't just a moral stance; it's a growth strategy. By not nickel-and-diming contractors for every lead, John built a loyal community that self-polices and promotes the brand organically.- Faith as a Stress Management Tool: John attributes his ability to handle the "Valley of Death" (running out of money) to a spiritual surrender. Removing his ego from the outcome allowed him to make clear decisions without panic.- Community Authority: A single contractor saying "I'm good" is marketing. A third-party organization backing that contractor with their own money is authority. John built a business on selling trust, not just advertising space.Tags: Home Services, Entrepreneurship, Business mindset, Faith, Startup, LeadershipResources:Grow your business today: https://links.upflip.com/the-business-startup-and-growth-blueprint-podcast Connect with John: https://thegoodcontractorslist.com/contractor-listings-and-our-team/
John Stewart Hill, founder of The Good Contractors List, who, in 2011, was broke, hopeless, and praying for death during a deep personal crisis. That moment of despair culminated in a massive heart attack. As he was wheeled into the ICU, he heard a clear, life-altering voice: “Well, John, do you want to stay or go?”John shares the three simple requests he made upon surrendering his life, requests that led him—despite having no money or business experience—to found a company that has since backed over $5 billion in projects. Learn how he built a "Kingdom-minded" business model focused on integrity, proving that faith can restore trust in the darkest of industries. The story doesn't end there. In 2022, John received a heart transplant, only to discover his donor was named Christian Wachal (Wachal means "Watchman"). John literally carries the heart of a Christian Watchman. In this powerful interview, you will hear:How to turn tragedy into purpose and business into ministry. The profound power of surrender—and how it unlocks success even when you feel unqualified. The meaning behind building for God's glory, not your own. This conversation offers hope to anyone who feels disqualified or forgotten. In this throwback episode, we have John Hill, founder of Adaptive Growth, helps small teams and entrepreneurs use technology and processes to make sales repeatable. John helps capture the “instinctual” parts of their sales conversations, document them, and embed them into customized CRM workflows. By doing so, he shortens ramp‑up time, eliminates gaps between reps, and creates data‑driven pipelines that can be refined just like digital‑marketing campaigns. He reinforces these ideas on his “Sales Throwdown” podcast, where he breaks down personality‑type frameworks (e.g., DISC) and stresses the importance of building rapport, using consistent scripts, and continually testing what works. John Hill is the Vice President of Story at Whop, a digital marketplace for online entrepreneurs. His career has been focused on building meaningful networks and communities for entrepreneurs and students.
Today's guest is literally out of this world.
It's often said that one pretty sure route to happiness is to find something you love doing, and then make a career out of doing it, and seems to be exactly what Susie Dent has managed to do with her lifelong fascination with words. In her new book "The Roots We Share" Susie spreads her love of language. Fekky grew up in Lewisham, and used music as his escape from a life of gangs and violence. But during lockdown he, like many of us, found his green fingers and has since upped sticks and moved to the countryside to set-up his own farm, charting his experiences on his YouTube channel "Hood2Farm". Richard Sharp began an urban wine collective after a holiday in France to a vineyard opened his eye to the power of community projects. Grapes from allotments, balconies, public gardens all across London are harvested and brought together to create a single unique wine. Also, three time World Champion Plougher, John Hill, joins us LIVE from the British National Championships.Plus the Inheritance Tracks of Joanna Lumley.Presenter: Adrian Chiles Producer: Ben Mitchell

Joan Robinson Hill had it all: wealth, beauty, and prestige as a celebrated equestrian in Houston's high society. But in 1969, her sudden and suspicious death at just 38 years old shocked the city and set off a tangled saga of scandal, betrayal, and murder that would haunt Texas for decades. In this episode, we unravel the gripping true story of Joan's life and death, the strange behavior of her husband Dr. John Hill, and the explosive chain of events that followed - including a grand jury, a sensational trial, and a deadly act of vengeance. Was Joan the victim of a medical mystery or something far more sinister?
For this episode of DISCRETION ADVISED, hosts Marc MacNamara & John Hill talk bad behavior. Marc reveals his history of arrests, while John shares an unusual bad habit he only has when staying at hotels. They share stories of a little dogsh*t-flinging, being kicked out of establishments and blacking out. Our guest of honor is Dolores Catania from THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY and THE TRAITORS (Season 3) who as a former corrections officer recalls hauling horny juvenile delinquents to courthouse hearings. She is asked about the rumors of Rhode Island and discusses her experience voting on THE TRAITORS before playing a game of "Toxic or Just Human?" and going into the bad behavior of certain other Bravolebrities. We close out the show with call-in guest New York resident DJ Jon Ali fresh off the heels of his recent SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL record release party for Miley Cyrus.
For our latest episode, Marc MacNamara and John Hill discuss the etiquette of having their shirts off in public. The theme of the show is adult entertainers past & present and they discuss at what age they were the most promiscuous. Guests are classic adult film star Ross Hurston and semi-newcomer Derek Kage, whose latest Falcon | Naked Sword compilation is out now: THE BEST OF DEREK KAGE BAREBACK. They talk about how they got into the industry and the biggest changes they've seen over the years. Finally, John reveals his thong before Marc & John answer fan mail questions like their favorite bush shape and the craziest situation they've been in that they realized they enjoyed.
For this new episode of DISCRETION ADVISED, hosts Marc MacNamara and John Hill let it all hang out — live in person — for our pantless episode! Marc reveals that he has a new show called HOT TUB GAMES coming out April 24 with many special guests. Marc & John trauma bond over personal crotch mishaps before delving into this week's thot topics. From being forced to fly next to a dead person to the TSA finding a live turtle down a man's pants or a man getting his girlfriend's hand stuck in his mouth, they cover all the strange news articles of the week before playing Truth or Dare. Lastly, our guest DeAngelo Jackson recalls how he lost his virginity on camera and discusses the kinkiest requests he's ever gotten. Catch DeAngelo in action in Marc's PEACHES & CREAM and the new Falcon Studios films EXPOSED and HARD FEELINGS which are online now. Happy Tuesday, ya'll! In this episode of Reality Water Cooler, Sarah kicks off the show with her signature warm and engaging energy, welcoming listeners back for another fun discussion on celebrity gossip and reality TV and Jeff Lewis Live. She shares her excitement about the sunny Texas weather and then takes a moment to express heartfelt gratitude for all the birthday love she received from her community recently! She had so much celebrity news to chat about with Garcelle and Lisa Rinna and her high hopes for Andy Cohen and John Hill to date again but that is probably unrealistic. Jeff Lewis Live was a doozie of a show with Beverly D'Angelo being off the charts today. Jeff put Cian on the spot about his job and Annie put Doug on the spot about not providing good content for a ChumpCon promo reel she was asked to make. Jamie Kennedy came to Doug's defense though as Doug is the #1 Chump. By the end of the episode, Sarah leaves her listeners feeling connected and entertained, reinforcing that Reality Water Cooler isn't just about gossip—it's a space where fans of reality TV can come together, chat, and share their excitement for the latest entertainment buzz. Grab a drink and spend the next hour with Sarah!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Worst jobs! Worst s*xual experiences! Worst things about RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE! For this week's episode of DISCRETION ADVISED, hosts Marc MacNamara and John Hill are teaming up with drag icon Lady Bunny and NakedSword superstar Johnny Donovan to list off the absolute “worsts” out there today. First though, these two are talking about Marc's recent run-in with Fox News, Mike White, Heaven, Lady Gaga, Diana Ross, homophobic travel spots, and, of course, Luigi Mangione's private s*x tapes. Lady Bunny and Johnny Donovan then hop on the pod to dish on Johnny's star turn in NakedSword's PEACHES AND CREAM, Bunny's new Chappell Roan parody (HOT TO BLOW), that time Johnny had to fake a c*m shot, Marc's days as a twink in NYC, and Bunny's unfiltered thoughts on everything from Rusicals to drag clubs. Then, after Marc and John chat all about Marc's awkward glass jar experience, some toothy oral John received, and plenty of other of their personal “worsts,” the hosts welcome on democratic strategist and YouTuber Keith Edwards to discuss the gay scene in DC and some of the worst things happening over in Washington right now. Then, my long-suffering assistant, Daryn, called in to give her side of the Contacts Disaster of 2025. Joan Robinson Hill and her husband, Dr. John Hill, were the darlings of Houston's high society in the 1960s. Joan was a champion equestrian from one of Houston's wealthiest families, and John was a successful plastic surgeon with a love for classical music. They were young, attractive, and seemed to have it all—a picture-perfect couple moving through a world of horse shows, charity events, and fancy parties. But behind the scenes, things weren't as perfect as they seemed. Joan and John were opposites in many ways, and their differences caused tension from the start. To make matters worse, Joan's father, Ash Robinson, was a major presence in their lives. He was fiercely protective of Joan and had no problem getting involved in her marriage, which only added more strain. By 1969, the cracks in their relationship couldn't be ignored any longer. The problems in their marriage came to a head, setting off a chain of events that would stretch over six years and leave a trail of heartbreak, betrayal, and tragedy for everyone involved.Support us on Patreon.Today's snacks (thanks Sarah!): Audrey's Chia Cookies, Prickly Pear Marmalade, Prickly Pear Candy

In an episode first reported in 2017, we bring you what may be, maybe the greatest gift one person could give to another. You never know what might happen when you sign up to donate bone marrow. You might save a life… or you might be magically transported across a cultural chasm and find yourself starring in a modern adaptation of the greatest story ever told. One day, without thinking much of it, Jennell Jenney swabbed her cheek and signed up to be a donor. Across the country, Jim Munroe desperately needed a miracle, a one-in-eight-million connection that would save him. It proved to be a match made in marrow, a bit of magic in the world that hadn't been there before. But when Jennell and Jim had a heart-to-heart in his suburban Dallas backyard, they realized they had contradictory ideas about where that magic came from. Today, an allegory for how to walk through the world in a way that lets you be deeply different, but totally together. This piece was reported by Latif Nasser. This is the Tranquillusionist, in which I, Helen Zaltzman, give your brain a break by temporarily supplanting your interior monologue with words that don't make you feel feelings. Note: this is NOT a normal episode of the Allusionist, where you might learn something about language and your brain might be stimulated. The Tranquillusionist's purpose is to soothe your brain and for you to learn very little, except for something about Zeus's attitude to bad drivers. There's a collection of other Tranquillusionists at theallusionist.org/tranquillusionist, on themes including champion dogs, Australia's big things, gay animals and more.
