Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre confirmed this week that if elected prime minister, his government would invoke the notwithstanding clause to ensure mass murderers serve consecutive sentences without a chance for parole. “They should only come out in a box,” the Tory leader said Monday. In this episode of “It's Political,” we look at the impact of Poilievre's decision and what the main parties are suggesting to tackle crime. We'll also discuss what they should be proposing instead. In this episode: Irvin Waller, professor emeritus of criminology at the University of Ottawa, Anthony Doob, professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto's Centre for Criminology and Sociolegal Studies, and Lisa Kerr, Associate professor and Director of the Criminal Law Group at Queen's. Hosted by Althia Raj. This episode of “It's Political” was produced by Althia Raj and Kevin Sexton. Kevin also mixed this episode. Our theme music is by Isaac Joel. Timmy has a 2.5 hour conversation with author Lisa Kerr about her blog which contained insights into a mega-church pastor scandal. It just so happens that Timmy knew these Pastors personally. Timmy and Lisa also talk about Divorce, RE-Birth, Freedom, Truth, Dating, and so much more! Enjoy! A Note From Timmy: I said in the podcast, "I've never been involved in a big scandal!" And while that is true, I think it's only fair, and honest, to admit that this doesn't mean I am without fault and haven't sinned, far from that! As I listened to the podcast I just felt I should mention this because I am guilty of things in my life while I was a pastor that I am not proud of, and I can't stand as Judge and Jury to anyone. Me, like the Apostle Paul, "...am chief of sinners." The thing for me is the honesty part. I believe it's important to be honest, and transparent, especially when you are standing on a stage leading people. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/timmygibson/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/timmygibson/support

For our first show of 2022, we are once again teaming up with The First Coast and the Island Institute to feature the final episode in our series about innovative people in Maine who are sustainably harvesting and growing products from the sea. First up, we're talking about Maine's groundfish fishery, past and present, and the potential that exists, for both fishermen and consumers, to support a diverse local marketplace and help support our fisheries. As he was about to turn 17, Remy Attig was keen to get away from his parents’ fracturing marriage, and ready for something to give his life purpose. The Master’s Commission program seemed like just the thing to set him up for a life of travel and spreading the word of God. Instead, it ran him ragged, instilled fear, built on his internalised homophobia, and set him up for unhealthy relationships and trust issues. In hindsight, he believes that the Master’s Commission was a cult. Guest: Remy Attig Full research sources listed on each episode page at www.ltaspod.com. So on to the show…Last week Conservative Party leader Erin O'Tool tweeted that “Not one criminal should be vaccinated ahead of any vulnerable Canadian or front-line health worker.”O'Toole's latest populist gambit is the perfect dog whistle to the tough-on-crime crowd. Unfortunately throwing away the health and lives of people in jail has real world consequences. As reported in Vice by Justin Ling, The COVID-19 outbreak in Canada's prisons has been catastrophic. And as prouder Lisa Kerr explains in the Globe and Mail, O'Toole's promise to put prisoners last will cost lives and make our communities more dangerous. I wonder who O'Toole thinks should be second last to get the vaccine? I wonder where you are on his list?Remember, you can self-isolate in The Docket's Discord chatroom. In this episode, clinician Rodney Limb is joined by therapist intern Natalie Millett and clinician Lisa Kerr. To begin, Rod asks couples to think about this question, "Why did you get married?" Often marriage is not exactly what we expect as couples bring different backgrounds into a marriage. One question that was asked was, "What do you do when you and your spouse are not at the same maturity level?" This begins a discussion about Rod's advice--learn parenting skills together, even if you don't have kids! Rod also talks about the acronym S.A.F.E.T.Y. P.R.I.C.E. including things stating your expectations, forgiveness, solutions, teaching, planning, rehearing, and more. Listen as the three of them give great advice and examples for all couples. The BBC's director general has said he would like to see more women hosting or co-hosting breakfast shows on the corporation's English local radio stations. He has set a new target of 50 per cent by the end of 2014; currently, just 2 breakfast programmes out of 41 have sole female presenters. Steve Hewlett speaks to the BBC's creative director Alan Yentob about the decision and asks former managing editor of BBC local radio John Ryan about the practicalities of getting more women on air. Also joining him in the discussion is media and communications consultant Lisa Kerr who considers whether quotas are the best way to achieve this. Also on today's programme; as the Co-op supermarket prepares to pull a number of lads' mags from its shelves, we ask the launch editor of Front magazine what this might mean for an already struggling magazine sector. And Stewart Purvis will be in the studio discussing his new book, which examines the lengths reporters on the front line of war and famine go to in order to get a story. Producer: Katy Takatsuki.
