When prosecution's usually focus on making a case clearer, in this case, the prosecution's strategy seems to be to muddy the evidence. Brian Loughran, a snow plow driver, said he saw a Ford Edge parked on the street going up Fairview around 3-4am. There's a procedure to call in vehicles parked on the street during snow removal, but he did not do so. While Special Prosecutor, Hank Brennan, did the cross-examination, he focused on online activity, specifically about a blogger talking about him. He stated he knew someone was talking about him online, but he didn't feel threatened or harassed. He also mentioned that his wife had recently passed, and he wasn't paying attention to online activity.Karina Kolokithas, a friend of John and Karen who was at the Waterfall Bar, spoke about how everyone was in a celebratory mood and having a good time. John O'Keefe was described as being "over the moon excited" for his niece and her future. She also mentioned that John and Karen were "sweet with one another." She talked to Karen Read for more than 50 minutes and noted that Karen was drinking water all night. She did not perceive Karen Read to be intoxicated. This point was highlighted as potentially persuasive for the jury regarding Karen Read's level of intoxication. Her testimony about the jovial evening was contrasted with the defense's presentation of the waterfall video, which focused on the interactions between Brian Higgins, Brian Albert, and Chris Albert, suggesting potential doubt about the overall mood of the evening.RESOURCESRetrial Day 25 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agSsaDTCZJcWhat You Need to Know About the Retrial - https://youtu.be/89Jpa8vz1RQ Karen Read Retrial Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKOJlfL__9F027hlETVU-vo Karen Read Trial - 2024 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKUeCUzApgsEuQRXu5IXeTSThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy
Karen Read Snow Job - How Social Media May Have Corrupted Key Defense Witness In a dramatic day of testimony in the Karen Read murder retrial, Canton snowplow driver Brian "Lucky" Loughran took the stand claiming he never saw John O'Keefe's body during multiple passes of 34 Fairview Road in the early morning hours of January 29, 2022. However, prosecutor Hank Brennan revealed that Loughran may have been targeted and influenced by controversial blogger Aidan "Turtleboy" Kearney, who has been charged with witness intimidation in this very case. The prosecution systematically dismantled Loughran's credibility, highlighting his close ties to the Albert family - he previously worked for Chris Albert, brother of homeowner Brian Albert - and his brother serves on the Canton board of selectmen with Chris Albert. These connections raise serious questions about potential bias and loyalty within Canton's tight-knit community. Most damaging to the defense was Brennan's revelation that Kearney had written about Loughran on his blog as early as June 2023, potentially compromising the witness before he ever took the stand. Kearney was actually present in the courtroom during Loughran's testimony, covering the trial despite facing witness intimidation charges. The prosecution also challenged Loughran's reliability as a witness, noting that authorities have questioned his recollection, pointing out he is colorblind and was driving in a blizzard at the time. Brennan also showed that Loughran's memory of timing has changed, as he previously said he attempted to return to the road around 5:30 a.m., but this time claimed it was around 6:15 a.m. While Loughran denied being threatened, the prosecution's methodical cross-examination exposed the troubling influence of social media activism on what should have been an impartial witness. This testimony may have backfired spectacularly for the defense, revealing not the smoking gun they hoped for, but rather a witness whose credibility has been fatally compromised by outside pressure. #KarenRead #KarenReadTrial #LuckyLoughran #WitnessIntimidation #TurtleboyBlog #JohnOKeefe #Canton #SnowplowDriver #Retrial #MurderTrial #Prosecution #JusticeForJohnOKeefe #CorruptedWitness #SocialMediaInfluence #WitnessCredibility #CourtroomDrama #MassachusettsMurder #BostonPolice #DefenseBackfires #TruthMatters #LegalAnalysis #TrueCrime #CourtroomUpdate #TrialWatch #ProsecutionWins #WitnessTampering #BloggerCharges #CantonConnections #TrialNews #Breaking Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Send us a textHow do citizens defend against a powerful DA, who uses a "burner"account to direct judges and court administrators? You can't. As Turtrleboy prepared for trial it was revealed that District Attorney Micheal Morrissey, had been using an email that was not subject to public records law. The Karen Read defense team has also filed a motion to investigate this burner account, it's unlikely that the email, voicing the DA's displeasure in Chris Albert being denied a harassment order, was the first usage of this secret email account. The motion pertaining to Karen's double jeopardy, is now a month old, this decision will likely be returned in the next few weeks, will they conclude that the jury voted not guilty on murder? if so that makes the Commonwealth's decision for them...interesting Boston.com-https://bit.ly/3CKn8P5TB Daily News-https://tbdailynews.com/canton-coverup-part-436-karen-read-defense-files-motion-demanding-all-ex-parte-communications-from-michael-morrisseys-private-phones-and-emails-cites-bederow-letters-from-turtleboy-case/
The town of Canton, Massachusetts, has formally disciplined Detective Kevin Albert following an investigation into his actions during a night of drinking with Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor in 2022. The allegations emerged during the Karen Read trial, in which Proctor served as the lead investigator. Despite the decision to discipline Albert, the exact nature of his punishment remains undisclosed due to ongoing investigations. Canton Police Chief Helena Rafferty stated that the investigative report into Albert's conduct is being withheld as it involves “ongoing investigations by other agencies.” Additionally, the disciplinary decision, made in a Select Board executive session, is classified as a personnel record, further limiting its disclosure. Albert's connection to the case has drawn significant attention, as his brother, Brian Albert, owns the home where Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe was found unresponsive in the snow on January 29, 2022. O'Keefe was the boyfriend of Karen Read, who was later charged with his murder. Read's defense has argued that she was framed, implicating Proctor, the Albert family, and others in a potential cover-up. Proctor's testimony in the Read trial revealed text messages between him and Kevin Albert, further complicating the case. The defense raised questions regarding Proctor's relationship with the Albert family and whether this influenced his handling of the investigation. The town confirmed that the discipline was decided after an independent investigation and a review by the Select Board, but they declined to share any details. Chris Albert, another of Kevin's brothers, who serves on the Canton Select Board, recused himself from the decision-making process. The town and police department maintain that the records will be made public when the other ongoing investigations are completed. This development adds to the controversies surrounding the Karen Read trial, with Proctor currently under investigation and suspended without pay from the Massachusetts State Police. Read's defense has consistently raised concerns about conflicts of interest, particularly involving the Albert family, and alleged misconduct by investigators during the case. As the town awaits the conclusion of the various investigations, it remains unclear what the long-term implications of this discipline will be for Kevin Albert and how it may impact the upcoming retrial of Karen Read. #KarenReadTrial #KevinAlbert #CantonPolice #MichaelProctor #JohnOKeefe #ConflictofInterest #CantonSelectBoard Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? As the town awaits the conclusion of the various investigations, it remains unclear what the long-term implications of this discipline will be for Kevin Albert and how it may impact the upcoming retrial of Karen Read. #KarenReadTrial #KevinAlbert #CantonPolice #MichaelProctor #JohnOKeefe #ConflictofInterest #CantonSelectBoard Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski,' psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott discusses the ongoing trial of Karen Read, focusing on the defense's efforts to link a distant event from 22 years ago to a conspiracy theory in the present case. The defense highlighted a past incident involving a witness, who had helped his friend Chris Albert during a physical altercation, suggesting that this historical loyalty might imply a propensity to cover up a murder for Albert decades later. Scott critiques this strategy as highly implausible and examines the psychological state of another key figure, Karen Read, at the time of the incident. The conversation covers the complexities of interpreting actions and statements made under extreme stress and intoxication, questioning the reliability of such evidence in establishing guilt. Scott emphasizes the role of alcohol in clouding judgment and complicating the legal assessments of the case. Main Points of the Conversation - The defense attempts to connect a 22-year-old altercation to a potential conspiracy in the murder case, using the loyalty shown in the past as a basis for suspicion. - Discussion of the psychological and emotional state of Karen Read during and after the incident, highlighting the impact of alcohol and stress. - Analysis of the challenges in discerning truth when a suspect is under significant emotional distress and intoxication. - Shavaun Scott suggests that alcohol played a significant role in the incident, potentially leading to tragic but unintentional consequences. - The episode also discusses the limitations of courtroom strategies that rely on distant past events to prove current motives or behaviors, emphasizing the need for expert witness testimonies to provide clearer insights. #KarenRead #JohnOKeefe #ShavaunScott #TonyBrueski #HiddenKillersPodcast #ConspiracyTheory #CourtroomPsychology Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this episode of 'Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski,' retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer provides insight into the ongoing trial of Karen Read, focusing on the testimony involving Sergeant Link and his historical relationship with Chris Albert. The defense attempts to tie Sergeant Link to a conspiracy theory, alleging a cover-up related to an incident from 22 years ago involving Albert. Coffindaffer critiques this strategy, emphasizing the weakness of using such a distant past event to influence the current murder case. She notes that the defense's approach seems to throw various accusations to see what might impact the jury's perception. This discussion highlights the challenges in courtroom dynamics, where seasoned professionals like Sergeant Link can handle intense scrutiny better than civilians like paramedics, who might be more easily influenced by skilled attorneys. The episode also touches on the broader media misrepresentation of the facts and the public's varying perceptions of the case, influenced by when they began following the trial. Main Points of the Conversation - The defense scrutinized Sergeant Link's past interaction with Chris Albert, suggesting it influenced his current testimony. - Coffindaffer argues that using a 22-year-old incident as evidence of a conspiracy is far-fetched and likely ineffective. - Discussion about the different responses between seasoned officers and civilian witnesses when faced with aggressive cross-examination. - Misrepresentation in mainstream media, where the timeline of events was incorrectly reported, influencing public perception. - The conversation reflects on the unpredictability of jury deliberations and the impact of throwing multiple accusations to see what resonates. #KarenRead #JenniferCoffindaffer #TonyBrueski #HiddenKillersPodcast #SergeantLink #ChrisAlbert #ConspiracyTheory Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," former felony prosecutor and current defense attorney Eric Faddis discusses the ongoing Karen Read trial, focusing on the credibility of the testimonies, particularly from first responders, and the defense's efforts to portray them as unreliable. The conversation touches on the complexity of the case, where what seemed like a straightforward hit-and-run has unfolded into a nuanced trial with possible implications of conspiracy and misrepresentation of relationships, as highlighted by the defense's scrutiny of a photograph from a baby shower. The discussion delves into the tactical approaches of the defense, potential overstatements, and the broader implications of community connections in small-town legal proceedings. Main Points of the Conversation: - **Complexity and Unexpected Turns in the Trial**: The case initially seemed straightforward but has evolved with more questions than answers, challenging previous assumptions about its simplicity. - **Credibility of Testimonies**: A significant focus on the credibility of first responders' testimonies, with the defense suggesting potential perjury based on social connections depicted in photographs. - **Impact of Community Connections**: Discussion on how small-town connections influence the perception of credibility and potential biases within the trial, especially with the relationships between the parties involved being scrutinized. - **Defense Strategy and Tactics**: Analysis of the defense's strategy to paint a narrative of conspiracy and their methods in challenging the prosecution's evidence and testimonies. - **Perception and Influence on the Jury**: Speculation on how these defense tactics might be perceived by the jury, whether they might see through alleged overstatements, and the potential risk of the defense losing credibility. - **Overall Impact on the Trial's Outcome**: Reflections on how all these elements combine to influence the ongoing narrative and potential outcome of the trial. #KarenRead #EricFaddis #TonyBrueski #HiddenKillersPodcast #LegalStrategy #ConspiracyTheory #CommunityConnections Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In a recent episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," guest Bob Motta, a defense attorney and host of the podcast "Defense Diaries," discussed the ongoing legal proceedings involving Sergeant Lank and his relationship with Chris Albert. The defense aimed to portray this relationship as giving Albert preferential treatment during an incident unrelated to the case in question. Motta analyzed the cross-examination where Sergeant Lank recounted a 2002 altercation involving Albert. Despite attempts to illustrate a close and potentially compromising friendship between Lank and Albert, Motta expressed skepticism about the defense's effectiveness, noting the age of the incident and questioning its relevance to the case. Key Points of the Conversation 1. **Sergeant Lank's Testimony:** Lank described a past incident where he helped Chris Albert during an altercation, asserting that his actions were part of his duties as an officer, not due to a personal relationship. 2. **Defense Strategy:** The defense tried to demonstrate that Lank provided special treatment to Albert because of their long-standing friendship, suggesting a potential bias in his professional conduct. 3. **Questioning the Relevance:** Motta questioned the relevance of bringing up a two-decade-old incident in the current case, suggesting it might not resonate with or be clear to the jury. 4. **Impression of Bias:** The defense aimed to show that local law enforcement, including Lank, might be biased in favor of the Albert family, potentially affecting the integrity of the case. 5. **Public Perception and Juror Interpretation:** Motta discussed how the jury might perceive Lank's involvement, whether they see it as an officer performing his duty or as a friend intervening in a fight, and how this perception could influence their view of the case's fairness. #BobMotta #TonyBrueski #HiddenKillers #ChrisAlbert #SergeantLank #DefenseDiaries #LegalAnalysis Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this March 12, 2024 9AM hearing there are details given by Defense attorney Jackson on the motion to dismiss the case. He was given ten minutes and is surprised because they were told they could have "all day" if needed. Grounds he sites: Chris Albert (brother of Brian--body of Officer O'Keefe was found on his front lawn) relationship with Sgt. Lank regarding a bar fight. Investigator/State Trooper Proctor is described as "second family" to the Alberts but hid this from the grand jury. Canton officer Kevin Albert coordinates the investigation. Google search "how long to die in cold" by someone who was at the after party at 2:27AM is hidden from the jury. (O'Keefe's body was found after shortly after 6AM on the lawn where the party took place.) ADA Lally says the commonwealth never knowingly deceived the jury. The Lank incident was 20 years ago. Brian Albert did not come out of his house but neither did neighbors. I was cold outside. Continuing: There was no fight. No dog attack. Ask that you deny motion to dismiss. Defense Rebuttal: FBI says John O'Keefe's injuries were inconsistent with contact with a car. Integrity is missing from this investigation. DA Michael Morrissey's video calling Karen Read guilty is misconduct. Gag orders were attempted. He called the defense theory desperate. And there was a group conference call with witnesses before the grand jury hearing took place. Morrissey's interest is not justice. DA Response: That video was six months ago. He had no choice because of a rolling rally calling the witnesses murderers. DA Morrissey had to respond. Kearney's (Journalist that first called the case suspicious, known as Turtleboy) (State) seized phone shows Read spoke to Kearney. The Phone doesn't lie. The familiar yellow-bordered cover of the monthly National Geographic will no longer be for sale on newsstands starting next year, part of cutbacks affecting the venerable magazine. The company's focus is turning to its digital product and it will offer special editions on newsstands, a spokesman said. Subscribers will still get a printed copy each month. Newsstand sales account for a small percentage of the magazine's monthly circulation of just below 1.8 million copies, the magazine said. Even a magazine that started publishing in 1888 isn't immune to financial headwinds affecting the media. Known best for its colorful photography from around the world, the magazine was started more than a century ago by the National Geographic Society, which supports science and exploration. Control of National Geographic has changed twice in the past decade, first in a sale to 20th Century Fox before being acquired by the Walt Disney Corp. in 2019. It has been hit by a series of layoffs. Craig Welch posted on Twitter that his new issue of the magazine just arrived, featuring his 16th and last feature as a senior writer for the magazine. “NatGeo is laying off all of its staff writers,” he wrote. The magazine said while it's accurate it no longer has anyone with the title of “writer” anymore, it has people who both write and edit. Instead, it will turn to non-staffers to author stories. The changes occurred as the result of a reorganization in April. The company would not discuss how many people lost their jobs. “National Geographic will continue to publish a monthly magazine that is dedicated to exceptional multi-platform storytelling with cultural impact,” spokesman Chris Albert said. “Staffing changes will not change our ability to do this work, but rather give us more flexibility to tell different stories and meet our audiences where they are across our many platforms.” “Any insinuation that the recent changes will negatively impact the magazine, or the quality of our storytelling, is simply incorrect,” he added. More than 7,700 flights were delayed Tuesday and nearly 2,200 were canceled, FlightAware data showed, as thunderstorms that derailed thousands of trips over the weekend lingered in airspace that is heavily congested on a clear-weather day. That’s on top of more than 8,800 U.S. delays and close to 2,250 cancellations Monday. The Federal Aviation Administration paused flights bound for New York’s LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. Delays were averaging three hours or longer at those airports. The FAA said that the thunderstorms were blocking arrival and departure routes. The disruptions come ahead of the busy Fourth of July holiday travel period, when millions are expected to fly. The Transportation Security Administration said it could screen more travelers than in 2019, before the pandemic, raising competition for spare seats. The Biden administration has pressured airlines to improve their operations after widespread flight disruptions last spring and summer, which prompted carriers to trim their overambitious schedules. But the industry struggled to recover this past weekend from a series of thunderstorms that didn’t let up for days. Thunderstorms are difficult for airlines because they can form with less warning than other major weather obstacles like winter storms or hurricanes. Rolling delays could force crews to reach federally mandated workday limits and further worsen disruptions. About 30,000 flights have arrived late since Saturday, FlightAware data showed, with cancellation rates from Saturday through Monday up more than three times the average for the year. Some airline executives have also blamed some of the disruptions on shortages of air traffic controllers. United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby told staff on Monday that “the FAA frankly failed us this weekend.” He said that during Saturday’s storms the FAA reduced arrival rates by 40% and departures by 75% at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, one of the airline’s biggest hubs. The staffing challenges aren’t new. The Covid-19 pandemic derailed hiring and training of new air traffic controllers, and the agency is now trying to catch up. The Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General said in a report last week that air traffic control staffing shortfalls put air traffic operations at risk. In March, the FAA and some airlines agreed to reduce flights to help ease congestion at busy New York airports because of the staffing issues. But the problems persist at a time when airlines are readying crews and schedules for a busy summer season, fueled by sustained travel demand. And the disruptions frustrated flight crews who were left waiting on hold for reassignments. The Association of Flight Attendants, which represents flight attendants at United and others said in a memo to members Monday that hold times for crew scheduling were longer than three hours. In response to the union’s memo, United said it has “deployed all available resources to catch up on call volume, including increasing staffing in crew scheduling and mandatory overtime on the scheduling team.” https://www.theblaze.com/news/over-200-billion-in-covid-relief-funds-lost-to-potential-fraud-and-abuse-gov-t-watchdog-finds-significantly-higher-than-previous-estimates Over $200 billion in COVID relief funds lost to potential fraud and abuse, gov't watchdog finds — significantly higher than previous estimates A report released Tuesday from the Office of Inspector General of the Small Business Administration found that the federal government lost more than $200 billion in COVID relief funds to potential fraud, waste, and abuse. The OIG's latest estimate is significantly higher than previous projections that speculated approximately $100 billion. The relief initiatives included the Paycheck Protection and COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs, created to provide emergency financial relief to small businesses and those who lost their jobs due to restrictive lockdown measures. The report estimated that at least 17% of the relief funds, which totaled approximately $1.2 trillion, were disbursed to potential fraudsters, including "more than $136 billion COVID-19 EIDLs and $64 billion in PPP funds." Inspector General Hannibal "Mike" Ware noted that the OIG's investigation into the potentially stolen funds has, so far, resulted in 1,011 indictments, 803 arrests, and 529 convictions. Approximately $30 billion in fraudulently obtained relief funds have been seized and returned to the SBA. Ware previously predicted during a 2021 interview with ABC News, "In terms of the monetary value, the amount of fraud in these COVID relief programs is going to be larger than any government program that came before it." The report claimed that the extensive fraud resulted from the SBA's "weakened or removed" controls to allow swift distribution of emergency funds to those in need. The OIG reported that the eased review process had the "allure of 'easy money'" for fraudsters who saw an opportunity to exploit the SBA's lowered barriers. The OIG's report stated: "OIG is working on tens of thousands of investigative leads on alleged fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer resources. Thousands of investigations will ensue for years to come because of swift congressional action to increase the statute of limitations to 10 years for COVID-19 EIDL and PPP fraud. We continue to identify fraud schemes, and we anticipate the overall potential fraud estimate could fluctuate; therefore, we may issue periodic updates to this report.” Bailey DeVries, acting associate administrator of the SBA, expressed concern that Ware's report contained "serious flaws that significantly overestimate fraud." DeVries stated that approximately 86% of the fraud occurred within the first nine months of the relief programs' rollouts, arguing that the agency's controls to prevent fraud improved over time. https://nypost.com/2023/06/28/daniel-penny-pleads-not-guiltyto-manslaughter-charge/ Prosecutors reveal they have more footage of Jordan Neely’s NYC subway chokehold death — as ex-Marine Daniel Penny enters not guilty plea Prosecutors revealed Wednesday they have additional cellphone video from witnesses in Jordan Neely’s subway chokehold death, as Marine Daniel Penny pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in the lightning-rod case. The 24-year-old former infantry squad leader — who appeared in Manhattan Supreme Court clean-shaven and wearing a blue suit and maroon tie — was arraigned on charges of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide during the brief, minutes-long hearing. A stoic Penny spoke only to say “Not guilty” as more than 50 people — including his supporters, backers of Neely, 30, and many members of the media — looked on. The Long Island native was caught on bystander video putting Neely — who witnesses said had been threatening subway riders — into a chokehold on an F train on May 1. The medical examiner’s office later ruled Neely’s death a homicide. Court documents filed Wednesday show that prosecutors have at least five cellphone videos from three witnesses to the deadly encounter that they plan to introduce as evidence. They also have videotaped statements from two other witnesses, as well as two MTA surveillance videos and police body-worn camera footage, the document states. Additionally, prosecutors disclosed they have a videotaped statement that Penny made to cops the day of the incident — when they released him without charges. Penny’s statements to cops inside the Broadway-Lafayette Street station, as detailed in the filing, echo what he has said publicly about the incident since. Penny described what could be seen in the shocking video of the confrontation, that Neely was “rolling, he was rolling, when he was in a choke. He was going crazy,” the filing states. Penny also told police that Neely was “acting irate, dropping things on the floor, saying he doesn’t care if he goes to jail,” according to the court doc. Penny surrendered to authorities on May 12 after the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office brought charges against him. He was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month and remains free on $100,000 bail. He faces up to 19 years behind bars if convicted on both counts. Penny has said he didn’t mean to kill Neely, but that he felt he had to step in for the safety of other passengers as Neely — who had a long history of mental illness — had been throwing trash at riders and threatening them as they moved away from him. https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2023/06/28/national-geographic-staff-writers-laid-off/?utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=wp_homepage National Geographic lays off its last remaining staff writers Like one of the endangered species whose impending extinction it has chronicled, National Geographic magazine has been on a relentlessly downward path, struggling for vibrancy in an increasingly unforgiving ecosystem. On Wednesday, the Washington-based magazine that has surveyed science and the natural world for 135 years reached another difficult passage when it laid off all of its last remaining staff writers. The cutback — the latest in a series under owner Walt Disney Co. — involves some 19 editorial staffers in all, who were notified in April that these terminations were coming. Article assignments will henceforth be contracted out to freelancers or pieced together by editors. The cuts also eliminated the magazine’s small audio department. Departing staffers said Wednesday the magazine has curtailed photo contracts that enabled photographers to spend months in the field producing the publication’s iconic images. In a further cost-cutting move, copies of the famous bright-yellow-bordered print publication will no longer be sold on newsstands in the United States starting next year, the company said in an internal announcement last month. National Geographic writer Craig Welch noted the moment in a tweet on Wednesday: “My new National Geographic just arrived, which includes my latest feature — my 16th, and my last as a senior writer. … I’ve been so lucky. I got to work w/incredible journalists and tell important, global stories. It’s been an honor.” The magazine’s current trajectory has been years in the making, set in motion primarily by the epochal decline of print and ascent of digital news and information. In the light-speed world of digital media, National Geographic has remained an almost artisanal product — a monthly magazine whose photos, graphics and articles were sometimes the result of months of research and reporting. At its peak in the late 1980s, National Geographic reached 12 million subscribers in the United States, and millions more overseas. Many of its devotees so savored its illumination of other worlds — space, the depths of the ocean, little-seen parts of the planet — that they stacked old issues into piles that cluttered attics and basements. It remains among the most widely read magazines in America, at a time when magazines are no longer widely read. At the end of 2022, it had just under 1.8 million subscribers, according to the authoritative Alliance for Audited Media. National Geographic was launched by Washington’s National Geographic Society, a foundation formed by 33 academics, scientists and would-be adventurers, including Alexander Graham Bell. The magazine was initially sold to the public as a perk for joining the society. It grew into a stand-alone publication slowly but steadily, reaching 1 million subscribers by the 1930s. The magazine was eventually surpassed for profits and attention by the society’s video operations, including its flagship National Geographic cable channel and Nat Geo Wild, a channel focused on animals. While they produced documentaries equal in quality to the magazine’s rigorous reporting, the channels — managed by Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox — also aired pseudoscientific entertainment programming about UFOs and reality series like “Sharks vs. Tunas” at odds with the society’s original high-minded vision. The magazine’s place of honor continued to dim through a series of corporate reshufflings that began in 2015 when the Society agreed to form a for-profit partnership with 21st Century Fox, which took majority control in exchange for $725 million. The partnership came under the Disney banner in 2019 as part of a massive $71 billion deal between Fox and Disney. Among those who lost their jobs in the latest layoff was Debra Adams Simmons, who only last September was promoted to vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion at National Geographic Media, the entity that oversees the magazine and website. At the time, David Miller, executive vice president of National Geographic Media, said the magazine was “realigning key departments to help deepen engagement with our readers while also nurturing existing business models and developing new lines of revenue.” In an email to The Post on Wednesday, National Geographic spokesperson Chris Albert said staffing changes will not affect the company’s plans to continue publishing a monthly magazine “but rather give us more flexibility to tell different stories and meet our audiences where they are across our many platforms.”

The report claimed that the extensive fraud resulted from the SBA's "weakened or removed" controls to allow swift distribution of emergency funds to those in need.

Go to https://beyondhomosapien.com/phoenix/ to check out the Phoenix beta program. Soul Healing For Warriors Soul healing is a topic that rings of hippy woowoo nonsense. Especially when considering an audience of military veterans, connection with the soul is oftentimes seen as the realm of charlatans. However, a deep warrior culture has survived in our civilization. These warriors walk in the footsteps of Samurai, Cherokee Braves, and medieval knights. At the same time as these individuals practice violence, they also teach the paths of stoicism, mastery of skill, and honor. In 2020, we can learn about warrior cultures and how these teachings approach the human soul. When done, this work reveals a tradition of chivalry, martial excellence, and ceremonial practice. Warrior soul culture runs deep. Young men and women feel this call inside their blood. In my book, I describe how and why I joined the US Army back in college. You can read that story here. As a result of joining the Army, I also found Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and developed a passion for physical fitness. During my time in the Army, I led Soldiers, managed operations, and learned from capable mentors all over the world. It was a wonderful experience that left me with a deep respect for the teachings of warrior cultures all over the world. A deep connection with soul is needed in 2020 and the time for soul healing is at hand. Chris Albert is a marine who hosts the Warrior Soul Podcast. On his show, Chris talks about mindset, holistic living, physical fitness, and healing for veterans. When it comes to the topic of understanding warrior culture, Chris Albert is a demonstrated expert. Chris Albert came on the Beyond Homo Sapien Podcast to talk about soul healing, plant medicine, and mindset. Check it out! On this show, Paul Tokgozoglu and Chris Albert discuss the healing potential of psychedelic plant medicines. Inside of warrior cultures, young men and women have experienced initiation through communion with the plant teachers. Thanks to emerging research at places like Johns Hopkins, we have now entered into a greater conversation of the magical healing properties of plant medicine. Currently, researchers at foundations like MAPS are pursuing the legalization of substances like MDMA in the treatment of PTSD. This research is groundbreaking and opens up new potential for soul healing for warriors.

Warrior is a term that gets thrown around a lot these days. Most men have the desire, to some degree to develop and hone their warrior spirit. And, despite the fact that many men have never considered themselves warriors or served in the military, it is possible and advantageous to approach your life in the very much the same way a warrior approaches his. Today, I am joined by Marine Corps veteran and entrepreneur, Chris Albert to discuss exactly what it means to be a warrior. We discuss how to lead yourself when no one is telling you what to do, what it means to “slay dragons” and make yourself capable of doing so, improving your internal dialogue, and how to tap into the warrior archetype. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Delivering veteran solutions Learning online business Teaching people how to be free Falling into tyranny Facing confrontation Slaying dragons Becoming passive Letting yourself go Deep family roots Getting started Absorb everything you can The epidemic of suicide Alienating yourself Harnessing your skills CHRIS ALBERT My guest today is Chris Albert and, as I said before he is a Marine Corps veteran and founder of Warrior Soul. Greetings, SuperFriends! Today we are joined by Chris Albert. Chris is a trainer, nutrition coach, and podcaster. His show, the Warrior Soul Podcast, empowers US Military Veterans to live their best lives through tools, tactics, ideas, and strategies that he and his amazing guests provide. Chris is also a US Marine Corps Veteran, and he got his start in training and nutrition while he was working on his Ph.D. in Political Science at UC Santa Barbara. He then went on to co-found the world-famous Metroflex Gym Long Beach where he advised pro-bodybuilders and pro athletes on nutrition. Chris has had some crazy experiences around discovering his identity and his genetics, and around growing up without adult figures in his life, plus much more that I'll let him talk to you about in the episode. My goal for the episode was to get in the mind of a real-life warrior and figure out what we can learn about adapting a warrior mindset in our own lives. How can we embody more discipline? How can we reach our goals by staying true to that discipline, and what kind of things can we learn by someone who literally is a warrior and works every single day with warriors? I really enjoyed the episode which is always a good indication that you will as well. Enjoy! -Jonathan Levi

Chris also talks about how he dramatically changed his mindset and stop thinking of himself as a victim but instead as someone who was responsible for his life and who create the life he truly wanted. In our episode we go over: The fact that 800,000 people per year commit suicide Why the veteran community is facing mental illness at a much higher rate than the civilian population The work that Chris is doing to help veterans get over depression and PTSD issues The reason many veterans face PTSD once they get out of the military and the fact that many veterans who have PTSD never actually saw combat The coping mechanisms that Chris and many others used to try to get over his mental illness The fact that Chris grew up without a father and what he did to compensate for this Why Chris made up these narratives in his head about not being good enough and being an alcoholic and how this led to self-destructive behavior Taking a DNA test and what Chris learned about the true identity of his father Why he had to change the story in his head to pull himself out of his deep, dark hole Getting over the narrative and rewriting your own script to live the life you want Why Chris doesn’t regret any of his past mistakes and why he wouldn’t change some of the challenges and dark parts of his life even if he could The power of forgiveness and why Chris needed to forgive his mother to get past his demons Learning from the struggles you have in life so you can have a better and more rewarding life afterwards Getting past the victim mindset and accepting everything that comes your way Obtaining a super power in your life and using it to propel you to unbelievable success Getting past the feeling of being entitled and why this mindset is insidiously crippling your ability to be happy or successful in life Taking ownership of everything that happens in your life Getting past the life of mediocrity which so many unwitting souls will live Getting past your comfort zone in life Where true happiness comes from and how to obtain it Why only about 8% of people will achieve the goals they set out to do How to actually achieve goals and be one of the few successful Check out Chris on: Website: warriorsoulagoge.com Facebook: facebook.com/warriorsoulapparel Podcast: Warrior Soul Podcast Sponsors: * Have you joined the Elite Man Newsletter yet? Chris Albert is the owner and founder of Warrior Soul Agoge: Fitness and Apparel and he has a podcast dedicated to helping veterans to remember their warrior identity by providing them with the knowledge, tools, tactics and strategies to find their mission in life after returning from deployment. But before he started Warrior Soul Chris went through many ups and downs starting from being raised by a single mother after his alcoholic father left the family at the age of 2, meaning Chris spent his childhood and teenage years without a father figure. He found team sports and powerlifting a way to develop confidence, but really had very little idea about his place in the world. When he joined the UNited States Marine Core Chris was provided with other men to look up to and learn from, as well as the structure and discipline he needed. After he left the military Chris found himself on a wayward path involving alcohol. He started a very successful gym, but after divorce, he lost everything and found himself broke and homeless. He managed to pull himself up out of poverty and on to great success once again, but this time he was focused on helping not people not only work on their physical selves but also on their mental and emotional states, and at the age of 40 made a very interesting discovery that helped change his mindset.
Within each of us lies an internal battle between who we are currently, and who we want to become. With who we want to become being our warrior side. Today on the podcast I'm joined by fellow Marine and Veteran entrepreneur, Chris Albert, to talk about climbing out of a hole after hitting rock bottom. How to make the most out of your one shot at life. And how you can cultivate your warrior soul. Chris is the founder of Warrior Soul Agoge, which is a community of Veterans seeking to reawaken and hone their warrior spirits for success in the modern world. With the Agoge consisting of an apparel line, a podcast, and a mastermind group called the Warrior's Obituary Society. Though prior to embarking on this path of entrepreneurship, Chris spent time in the Marine Corps as an infantryman. Following his service, he took notice of the tragic state of many Veterans and made it his mission to help them live their best lives. Though this path did not come without challenges. Along the way Chris faced failed businesses, ruined relationships, he was without a home for a while and living out of his car, and he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Despite all of it, he pressed on and is now running a successful business. He's also taking good care of his health by staying active through weight lifting and jiu-jitsu. And he hosts a podcast that has allowed him to connect with a variety of amazing people; including Grant Cardone, Nick Bare, Ryan Michler, and Donny O'Malley, just to name a few. In this episode, Chris tells us more of his story, talking about the life lessons that he's learned from his successes and failures, some of his travels around the world, and how you can cultivate your own warrior soul. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal has found Bobby Qureshi put his own financial interests above the interests of his visually impaired patients. Qureshi was medical director at the London Eye Hospital, now under different management, implanting a new type of lens to patients who have macular degeneration. The tribunal found patients did not receive enough information on the risks prior to having the procedure. Cathy Yelf CEO of the Macular Society which gave evidence to the tribunal from 20 cases, gives her reaction to the tribunal’s verdict, and what it means in the uncharted territory of treatments for macular degeneration. The mission of Warrior Soul is as follows: "Reclaim your Warrior Spirit. Each week, we'll be discussing tools, tactics, ideas, and strategies to help you strengthen your body, enhance your mind, and dominate life. US Marine Corps Veteran Chris Albert delivers a powerful message: life is too precious to sit idly and watch it go by. The Warrior Soul Podcast was created to help all Veterans, and anyone willing to listen, to live their best lives. Past guests include: Ryan Michler, Ben Greenfield, Remi Adeleke, Chris Bell, and so many more.""When many think of the “Left” in the US political-ideological spectrum, they think of things like tolerance, equality, and anti-imperialism.Yet, that perspective is increasingly being called into question. In this episode, we bring in the perspective of someone from the Caribbean, a region that's existed in the shadow of US foreign policy throughout its history.Dr. Kirk Meighoo is a Trinidadian academic, former independent Senator, and political thought leader. He is also a former “Marxist” who argues that “leftist” and “progressive” thought is actually more aligned with imperialism than the traditional conservative ideological perspective if you look at the facts and the historical record. In this episode, we dissect the current political discourse in the United States with a discussion of topics ranging from US foreign policy to immigration. This is surely one of our most controversial episodes, and regardless of what your political views are, it's aim is to get you to think."
Chris Albert returns to cohost as we talk about the practicalities and personal experiences with meditation. Is this something just for dudes with grey ponytails and dream catchers or is there something for the rest of us? Will it turn you into a complete panoche? We get into what people can gain from a breathing practice, how it changes our moods, and gives us more choice in how we react to situations. There is nothing harder than overcoming limiting beliefs to start, pushing through hardship to continue, and continuing a personal development plan in order to thrive. It's a process of reaching deep into your soul power, personal development like no other, going to depths of your mind, and pulling out some gold to give to the world. Chris Albert and I dive into this topic on the Beyond Homo Sapien Podcast. On this episode, we chat about the process of personal development and spiritual growth undergone during the process of starting and growing a business. Meditation, Ego, and Drive with Chris Albert by Don Leverette
Warrior Soul Brand founder & former marine, Chris Albert (@warriorsoulagoge) is dedicated to improving the lives of military veterans through his apparel line, online performance coaching business and podcast. He is known for coaching many well-known celebrities and people to elite physical shape. But his life has been far from a smooth ride. He is the master of the comeback and his life is the ultimate hero story. After opening one of the most popular destination gyms in the world, he unexpectedly lost everything ... and I mean everything: marriage, business, money - he was flat broke. Amazingly, he calls this point of his life “one of the moments he is most grateful for”. His mentality and view of life is truly inspiring and his straightforward approach to nutrition and training may just make your fitness goals a lot easier to reach.
Chris Albert is a U.S. Military Veteran (former Marine) and founder of Warrior Soul Agoge, a lifestyle, education and clothing company dedicated to veterans and civilians to “Live Their Best Lives.” He is the host of the Warrior Soul Podcast.

We do the right thing, not for promise of reward or fear of punishment, but simply because it’s the right thing to do. This is the way of the Warrior Angel. WAF MISSION: Warrior Angels Foundation provides a personalized assessment and treatment protocol, which pinpoints - and, more importantly, treats - the underlying condition for U.S. Military Service Members and Veterans who have sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) while in the line of duty. We all know theres more to suicide, lets discuss it. RIP to all the fallen Veterans who have succumbed to suicide. RIP Robin Williams, your laughter will carry us all to a better understanding of all our sadness. We had the pleasure of attending the Launch of Ronin Veterans Network! It was a blast! The people in attendance were absolutely motivated. It was like watching dream unfold into reality. Hearing the stories of the participants, reflecting back on my own experiences, and enjoying every moment. We got to meet so many inspiring people who are absolutely dedicated to contributing to the mission of assisting those who are in need. Right before I went to meet and greet everyone I had the pleasure of being on Boone Cutler's "Tipping Point". It is a show that's mission is to move and grow the Warrior Right's Movement by providing some precious insight to the warrior mentality and ethos. Here's the links to check out more. http://boonecutler.comWhen I walked into the event it was like walking into my dream gym MetroFlex Gym ( http://metroflexlbc.com ) has the vibe of a true training facility. Not that shit you get at your local 24hour cesspool of perverts and fat bodies not trying hard, this place gives you a pump just by being there! With the American flag waiving next to all the service flags it was hard not to jump in on the push up competition lead by the one and only CT Fletcher! ( http://ctfletcher.com )As I made my rounds interviewing people from: Team Rubicon ( http://www.teamrubiconusa.org ), Sharon Elefant and Jeff Fabry from Team AMVETS ( http://www.teamamvets.com ), Chris Albert from Warrior Soul Apparel ( http://www.warriorsoulapparel.com ) and last but not least the men who brought the world and the entire community of warriors Ronin Veterans Network ( http://www.roninvn.org ) Kameron DeLany, Glen Stevenson, Ryan Carrillo, and James Shannon. The story began to really show itself. People are motivated to help!Watching the entire event was like seeing the dream of unification coming true! Listening to all reasons for being there and the way their passion has helped so many, was truly empowering. We all have struggles, pains, difficulties, and reasons that hold us back, there are times where we feel we can not succeed. There are people here to help, there are others struggling that have made it a little bit further and are giving back. As a community we owe it to ourselves and to our friends, families, and Nation to live the best life possible and thrive on! The feelings of optimism and hope that this event brought me is something we all should be going after. Let's get off our asses and Unify!
