Email us at podcast@pursueGOD.org.Donate Now --In Acts 23–24, we find the Apostle Paul standing trial before the Jewish Sanhedrin and later before the Roman governor Felix. Throughout these intense encounters, Paul boldly declares, "I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day" (Acts 23:1). His words and actions in these chapters offer insights into how to have a clear conscience before God.Q. How do you cultivate a clear conscience?I'm using “cultivate” on purpose. It's like a tender plant that needs attentionEx: Trying to keep a plant alive or cultivate a gardenIn Greek philosophy, conscience (syneidēsis) was understood as an internal moral compass, a faculty of self-awareness and judgment regarding right and wrong. This is the fundamental problem with the secular idea of conscience: who gets to decide what's right and wrong? Today's Oxford defn: an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one's behavior. Our definition of sin (Pursuit Lesson 4): Sin is going your own way, trusting and acting on your own opinions and feelings instead of on God's truth. Hebrew thought associated conscience more with the heart (lev), emphasizing moral responsibility in light of God's law. From The Meaning of “Heart” in Hebrew: the concept of the “heart” is best understood as the “inner person” – the seat of our mind (thoughts), emotions (feelings), and will (intentions). In the NT, we'll see today: in light of Christ's work on the cross and the gift of the HS, having a clear conscience is about submitting your whole self – thoughts, feelings, intentions – to the Way of Jesus. Before we get to Paul's speech in Acts, let's start with his first letter to TimothyThis gives us good context for what we'll be reading in ActsIt also helps us to understand the value of a clear conscienceIt's not just good for you, your inner lifeIt's also good for the people around you, it impacts your ability to love1 Timothy 1:5 (NLT) 5 The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. The purpose = believers would be filled with loveRing a bell? Greatest commandment = LOVEWhere that love comes from:a pure heart, The whole NEW self – thoughts, feelings, intentionsAlready perfected in the court of heaven, not yet here on earthBut the longer...

Lisa is the owner and head maker of Lovering Quilt Co. Lisa is a graduate of Buffalo State with a bachelor's in Fashion Textile Technology and has a passion for fabrics. When she picked up quilting in 2015, her adoration for quilting and buying fabrics (which we all know are two different hobbies) led her to a daydream of owning her own little online fabric shop. She chats about her transition from the corporate world into being a self-employed and the challenge of staying on top of your business as a solopreneur. They also dive into the changes in priorities as a result of the 2020 lockdowns and what that means for small businesses. Lisa also shares about the challenge of going out of your comfort zone to meet new people, but the "common thread" of quilting keeps us together as a community. And that common thread tied us to you, so please enjoy! Find Lisa here! If not nuclear, then what else? This is Jessica Lovering's question, co-founder of the Good Energy Collective. She says the most important thing is to lift one billion people out of energy poverty. To do that, we need a low carbon source of energy without intermittency issues. Because of this, she says, nuclear is a form of environmental justice. Jessica begins by explaining the historical and current dynamics, regulatory issues, financial challenges, and technological advancements in nuclear. We then address the potential and complexities of nuclear power in addressing climate change, managing energy needs, and ensuring energy equity. We also explore community consent, nuclear waste management, geopolitical implications, employment impacts, before discussing whether or not nuclear is worth the risk in an increasingly unstable world.Planet: Critical is 100% independent and community-powered. On this holiday edition of The Hennessy Report, Dave is joined by Erin Lovering, the CHRO at Edelman Financial Engines. Erin discusses her start in clinical psychology, juggling strong legacy cultures after a merger, as well as their mission statement: everyone deserves to move their financial lives forward. She believes HR's job is to get the best out of organizations and the best out of leaders, and describes her role to her children as, "helping bosses be better bosses." At one point, Erin shares her beliefs on the importance of investing in new managers' skill sets and examining the end-to-end employee experience to identify how to pulse sentiment during those moments that matter. This holistic way of thinking is growing in popularity, mirrored in Keystone's own research and evolving messaging around preparing for the defining moments organizations and employees alike consistently face, from coaching to transitions. You'll enjoy this fast-paced, engaging conversation! Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!

This episode I am joined by Australian actress 'Claire Lovering.' Who is excited to talk about her role in the 'ABC' Australian comedy series, 'Gold Diggers.' You may have seen her work recently in 'Class of 07,' 'Wellmainia' or 'North Shore' and coming 'Claire' also features in ‘The PM's Daughter.' Also on the 'ABC.' However, we are here to talk 'Gold Diggers.' Which starts tonight, Wednesday the 5th of July on 'ABC' and 'ABC iView.' Set in 1853 this outrageously funny series follows the widely optimistic 'Brewer' sisters - who set out to get lucky but first they must conquer the lads, lice, lechery of the Australian 'Gold Rush.' 'Gold Diggers' is a fast paced Australian comedy series. It is rude, silly, packed full of joy and is politically savage. 'Claire' plays one of the two 'Brewer' sisters and I genuinely laughed a lot watching this. I will ask 'Claire,' how this role came about and which comedy shows had inspired her. 'Claire' will talk about why she nearly quit acting during the pandemic and why throwing out the blonde hair dye was a turning point in her career. We will hear about 'Claire's' time on set from intimacy coached sex scenes to crying competitions between takes. Plus we will ALSO get plenty of exclusives from behind the scenes of 'Gold Diggers' which by the time you probably listen to this episode will be available on 'ABC iview.'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What happens when your career, or your business, becomes your entire identity? Boundaries get blurred, you feel guilty saying no, you avoid conflict, and your happiness becomes defined BY your work, and how successful you are—or are not. Joining me for a conversation about how to uphold your boundaries and level up your influence, is executive presence coach and founder of Copper + Rise, Joanna Lovering. In this episode, Joanna opens up about her childhood and her relationship with her mother, her relationships at work, in her career, and as a business owner, and dissects the enmeshment that connects them all. We also talk about how we can choose to show up differently, develop a sense of agency, and determine our true priorities.

Jane Lovering, biscuit-loving author of A Cottage Full of Secrets and winner of the Romantic Novel of the Year award, braves a less than ideal internet connection in order to undergo a series of occasionally tailor-made (but largely off-the-peg) pop culture challenges - before getting rudely cut-off by a disturbance in the host's neighbourhood
Jessica Lovering, the co-founder and co-executive director at the Good Energy Collective, joins Scott to discuss how nuclear energy got such a bad rap, and why it's actually a great mechanism for combating climate change. Summary:Executive presence is a learned skill and has nothing to do with ability, extraversion, or charisma. (9:17)50% of leaders say "looking and acting" like a c-suite exec is more important than qualifications. So we need to study the looking and acting just as much as technical competence. (12:10)Having an executive presence doesn't mean you have to change who you are, or be fake. You just need to tweak your behaviors just a tiny bit and use them in the right contexts.
