In this episode of Take a Breath, I'm joined by my lovely friend Carly for a deeply honest conversation about her journey through breast cancer and everything that came with it.  Nearly three years ago, Carly was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised to undergo a mastectomy and radiotherapy. Instead, she chose a very different path,  one that focused on radically changing her lifestyle. And of course, it wasn't easy.We talk openly about the reality of what that looked like day-to-day, cutting out sugar, preparing everything from scratch, trying to reduce toxins, learning to slow down, and turning inward through meditation.During this time, Carly also lost her mum to cancer, while continuing to navigate her own diagnosis and the fear and uncertainty that came with it. At one stage, the cancer spread, yet Carly continued to trust the path she was on and doubled down on caring for her body and mind in a completely different way. Now, two years later, after recent scans, doctors could find no trace of cancer. This episode is not about telling anyone what they should or shouldn't do medically, and Carly's experience is uniquely her own. But it is a powerful conversation about trust, intuition, resilience, lifestyle, emotional wellbeing, and the incredible connection between mind and body.We talk about:Carly's diagnosis and the emotions that followedWhy she chose a different routeThe intense lifestyle changes she madeStress, grief, and the nervous systemMeditation and emotional healingLearning to trust herselfWhat this experience taught her about lifeIt's a raw, moving, hopeful conversation and one I know so many of you will take something meaningful from.Download 15 Breaths to Calm Anxiety - a FREE 5 minute audio to calm you down in real time.Download The Breath Check-Up - your FREE guide to understanding how well you're breathing right now.Download my energising 5 Minute Morning Practice to get your day started in the best way possible. To find out more about my membership The Inner Space go to:  https://www.pollywarren.com/theinnerspaceEmail me at:  info@pollywarren.comhttps://www.pollywarren.com/https://www.instagram.com/pollywarrencoaching/

Which Way Will We Walk? That question sits at the center of one of Jesus' most well known stories—the Good Samaritan. In a world full of division, opinions, and “us vs. them,” Jesus offers a completely different path—one that challenges how you see people and how you choose to live.In Luke 10:25–37, Jesus is asked a simple question: “Who is my neighbor?” But instead of giving a simple answer, He tells a story that disrupts assumptions and removes every excuse we tend to make. Because for Jesus, love isn't limited to people like you—it extends to anyone in need. This message explores what it really means to follow Jesus in everyday life—not just in belief, but in action. Because love for God is demonstrated by love for others. You'll discover:• Why we naturally look for “wiggle room” in loving others• How Jesus redefines who your neighbor actually is• What the Good Samaritan teaches about real compassion• Why faith can feel stale when it's not lived out• How stepping into action can bring your faith back to lifeIt's easy to agree with Jesus. It's harder to actually follow Him. But the invitation is clear: “Go and do likewise.”If your faith feels stuck, distant, or just routine, this message will challenge you to step into something more real, more active, and more alive. Because the way of Jesus isn't just something you believe—it's a path you walk.

Acts 14:8-22,8 Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. 9 He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, 10 said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking. 11 And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” 12 Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. 13 And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. 14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, 15 “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. 16 In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” 18 Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them.19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. 21 When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.We conclude our worship gathering here each week with the commissioning, reciting Jesus' words to us in Matthew 28:19-20. He tells us to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you…”The authority given to us from Jesus Christ, to “make disciples” from all the nations, applies to all sorts of tasks: it includes local tasks such as raising children, encouraging a brother or sister in Christ, confronting a friend who is drifting, or explaining the gospel to a Lyft driver. But it also goes beyond our local horizon to tasks like learning a new language to communicate in a different country. When we come to “missions” Sunday, we mean something specific. Missions means that someone is sent, with purpose, for a goal. And the specific goal we understand with that term is, “cross-cultural witness” about Jesus. Why is that? The Great Commission does not allow us to be content with our own home or neighborhood. It requires us to look beyond the horizons of our city, and of our nation or people. God has a special and distinct delight in creating disciples from among all nations. That nudge, that delight, that push to emphasize “all nations” is what we call “missions.” Of all that God calls us to do, one part that requires a reminder and special attention, is to pray for, to send, and to go toward peoples who have not yet heard or accepted the gospel. And in Acts 14 we have an example of the first missionary team to the nations, Paul and Barnabas. This story gives us a picture or model of what it looks like to bring the good news about Jesus to a new place. Whatever situation we face today, we can ask how to respond in ways that reflect what we see from the Apostles. My hope is that this text stimulates us to send cross-cultural witnesses (missionaries). And, I pray that it would confirm some people in this room with the desire to join that work. How does cross-cultural witness glorify God? Cross-cultural witness glorifies (or makes much of) God—through Light, Life, and Love.Light: It shines light into darkness.Life: It brings new groups of people to Jesus.Love: It helps believers walk in a cross-shaped way.1) Light: Light into Darkness (vv. 9-18)How does cross-cultural witness glorify God? It shines light into darkness. This is the main point of the story about Paul and Barnabas's witness in the town of Lystra. The story has three parts: a healing, a misunderstanding, and then light (the explanation).HealingThe Apostles announced the saving power of Jesus through a miracle.Paul says to a lame man, “Stand upright on your feet” (14:10). And the man rises. In fact, the text says that he “sprang up”, and began walking. The people of Lystra were no fools. They must have known this man. They knew he could not walk and had never walked. He was disabled from birth. There was no orthopedic surgery at this time. No Dr. Peter Cole to set those bones, and no physical therapy to train him to walk. And yet, in a moment, the power of Jesus changed everything. We are all familiar with showcased, staged healings. It is difficult for us to contemplate what a real public healing would look like. What would you feel if you were there? Remember, this is someone the townspeople knew. The evidence, for them, was clear as the blue sky. This man couldn't walk, and now he can.And that makes their reaction a bit less surprising.Misunderstanding“And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, ‘The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!'” (v. 11) Paul and Barnabas didn't understand what was said. Notice that the people were speaking in Lycaonian. Paul and Barnabas were undoubtedly speaking Greek, and we think most people would have spoken Greek as well. Cities such as Lystra were founded as Greek cities several hundred years earlier. But this verse tells us that there was a deeper culture, an older culture, an older language still at play. When the people were startled by this obvious miracle, they responded in their native language.Verse 12 explains the confusion,“Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.”It would be a big surprise for you and me to be mistaken as “gods”. I think it was a surprise for Paul and Barnabas as well. The people saw the miracle and concluded this must be a divine visit. They picked the most likely visitors from the Greek pantheon—Zeus, king of the gods, and Hermes, the messenger of the gods. The misunderstanding went even deeper when the priest of Zeus proposed sacrificing an ox to celebrate the visit from these god-like figures. The text says that when Barnabas and Paul “heard of it,” that is, someone had to tell them what was going on…they spoke up and explained the true situation.Think about what Paul and Barnabas were feeling at that moment. “We've been totally misunderstood!” Even after Paul's explanation, Luke records that “even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them” (14:18).So, despite a clear word from Paul, there was misunderstanding.Dear friends, have you ever been misunderstood in your gospel witness? It happens that we try as best we can to make the gospel clear, and yet people around us hear it through their own lens. Perhaps, “Ah, so you are religious and I'm not.” “So you hold a particular political view.” Or, as I experienced with a driver in Vietnam once, “You ask Jesus for good stuff, and I ask Budda for good stuff. We're basically the same.”But I want us to see in this text that misunderstanding has a purpose. It fuels clear gospel witness. Misunderstanding forces us to new and fresh ways of speaking. Misunderstanding is the stuff of cross-cultural witness because it forces us to push through. It forces us to learn a new language, whether a literal language or the vocabulary of a sub-culture we've never experienced—maybe even one in our own city.LightA misunderstood healing gives Paul a chance to speak. And he has a message, a beam of light into darkness. He says in verse 15,“We bring you good news.”What is that good news? What was the great problem regarding god in the ancient world? Because there were so many powers in the universe, so many potential gods, the greatest challenge was to know which god should be worshipped. All the sacrifices in the pagan world were attempts to ask, “Will this help?” “Will that help?” My Vietnamese friend treated Buddha in the same way: He can help me get what I want. That is why Paul says in verse 15, “We bring you good news!” It frees us to learn that there is one God above all. It is freeing to hear that this God has spoken. If I am worried about offending one of the many gods, to hear that there is one God above them all changes things.Remember that the priest of Zeus is waiting there with a sacrificial ox. But Paul doesn't say, “Just like Zeus, the god I proclaim is the king of the gods. He directs the lightning. He shows his power in the sky.”The Living God is not like Zeus. He is not a part of creation, but completely separate from it. As the “living” God, he is life and he gives life. He created all things and so rules over all things. And people need that same word today. Without a belief in the living God, people have no real connection to what is bigger than themselves. A world without a creator has a great emptiness. All our quests to be part of something bigger than ourselves are pointing in that direction. We may settle for building our own little empire, or devoting ourselves to a political cause, or vaguely hoping that “helping people” gets us a bit more meaning, but in quiet moments we know that we are alone in this universe without connection to one who created all things.Dear friends, this is the “light” of the gospel message. The God who made the world, the one whom we cannot avoid, has spoken and acted for us in Jesus.Luke doesn't record the end of Paul's message here, but he does in Acts 17, when Paul visits Athens. There Paul says,“The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead” (Acts 17:30-31).The resurrection of Jesus Christ has announced God's salvation and judgment to the world. Some of you are facing difficult conversations with friends and family about what you believe. You may be uncertain about how to make clear what you mean by faith in Jesus. Paul's witness here reminds us that even in the midst of misunderstanding, the gospel announces real, solid light to every culture and sub-culture, to every sector of society, and to every man and woman. And the work to make that gospel light clear is the glorious work of witness, particularly cross-cultural witness.2) Life: New Followers of JesusCross-cultural witness glorifies God because it results in life: that is, new followers of Jesus. What Does Christian Conversion Look Like? (v. 15)It is to “turn from vain things to a living God” (Acts 14:15). Paul explains this to the Thessalonians in 1 Thessalonians 1:10, “you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.” Notice the contrast: Vain things, idols, that is, whatever claims to meet our needs. Instead we should turn to the “living God.” “Living God” does not mean simply that “he exists.” Rather, he is life and he gives life. He is not an inert, distant power or force—like gravity. But he is active, alive, and giving life.Psalm 36:9,“For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.” This reminds us why the message is good news.Turning to God is not just doing what we are told: like getting back to your homework after wasting 30 minutes scrolling. It is not like getting serious after throwing around some jokes with friends, or setting yourself a long list of goals to make yourself better. Instead, the New Testament describes conversion as turning from darkness to light. It is stepping away from emptiness and toward fullness. It is to reorder your desires and values so that you look up to the one who is the most valuable and say, “Yes! I have everything I need in You!” Everything else is “vanity,” insufficient, incomplete, temporary, and ultimately unsatisfying. If we have Jesus, then we lack nothing. Our cup is full. And we are satisfied with all that God is for us in Jesus. He is to us, not only Lord and Savior, but also our treasure.Have you turned from vain things to the Living God? Have you given up on empty pursuits (and you know deep down that they are empty) to look toward the God who gives real life? Paul calls the people of Lystra to the most significant moment of their lives. He tells them not to miss out on what God gives. And if you have not yet put your faith in Jesus, then God announces this to you again today: Come to him.And the miracle is that people in Lystra believed.New Disciples and New ChurchesActs 14:21-22,“When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith....”They “made many disciples” and they returned to “strengthen the souls of the disciples.” In the midst of misunderstanding, people believed. When Paul and Barnabas came back to Lystra, perhaps a month or two later, there were “disciples.”This is the great promise of gospel witness. Real lives are changed. Human lives take a new direction. And those believers make churches, churches that often endure. Do you remember Paul's companion, Timothy? Do you know where he is from? Lystra. This very town (Acts 16:1-3).I know Lystra is not on a tour of Bible lands today. That part of Turkey was conquered by Muslims in the Middle Ages, but the church in Lystra survived for at least four hundred years after this event. There is evidence that the bishop of Lystra attended a church council in 451 AD. So, the cross-cultural witness here produced fruit for hundreds of years to come. How does cross-cultural witness glorify God? It brings life and joy that transform the lives of men and women…and then it bears fruit in churches and communities for decades and centuries. So, Cities Church, if a mature member of this church says, “Yes. I want to give my life for that work in a fresh, cross-cultural environment,” will we get behind them? Are we ready to send a member or members of this church to live and witness cross-culturally for the sake of new spiritual life? Might that perhaps be you? 3) Love: Believers Walk in a Cross-shaped Way (vv. 19-20)Cross-cultural witness brought Light (out of darkness and into light), Life (new life that grows in Christ), and then Love (Believers now walk in a cross-shaped way).Acts 14:19-20,“But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.”Can you imagine this scene? As Paul, you are hit in the head with a stone that knocks you out. Next thing you know, you wake up in the dust on a road outside the town.Imagine what that felt like for Barnabas. Here we are, a few months into this journey. We've seen some success, we've seen people come to faith. And even in Lystra it looked hopeful after the misunderstanding. But then, it all comes crashing down in a mob action directed at Paul. How do you respond to that? Luke records this very simply: Paul got up, went into the city, and left the next day with Barnabas. These guys knew what they were about, and they were not surprised. We have been studying John 17, and Jesus makes this perfectly clear:“I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” (John 17:14)“As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” (John 17:18)Paul and Barnabas looked at each other that day and said, “Brother, we are not of this world. But we are sent into the world. The world hates our Savior, and so it hates us as well.”Here is how Paul reflected on that day when he wrote to Timothy several years later, 2 Timothy 3:10-12,“You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted…”When Paul thinks through his “persecutions and sufferings”, he goes back to this event. He tells Timothy, you want to know what my life looks like? Remember Lystra. We can call it a cross-shaped life. Just as Jesus told us,“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” (Luke 9:23-24)Do you believe that, dear friends? The life of love is a life poured out for others in serving them and proclaiming the good news about Jesus Christ. And cross-cultural witness among unreached people makes this abundantly clear. C.T. Studd, one of the missionaries to China in 1885 said about his years there: “For five years we never went outside our doors without a volley of curses from our neighbors.” Those who engage in front-line, pioneering cross-cultural witness often face a negative response from people. And yet there is glory in it. Would it not be a glory to display that cross-shaped life as a witness to a people group among whom there are few believers? Would it not be a grace to spend your life working through the frustration of cross-cultural misunderstanding to see new spiritual life spring up? Would it not be worth it to find yourself spent, tired, and poured out for the sake of people who might not hear the gospel clearly any other way? And for every Christian, it may be that you will face a “volley of curses” when you go outside your door. You might even face such a thing today. And that is why Paul's exhortation to the new believers in Lystra applies also to us, Acts 14:22:“strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”Your “many tribulations” might look like anything: this includes both opposition and just plain difficulty. Paul says to you that “through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” This is from God and God is with us in it.The TableAnd how do we know that God is with us in difficulty? One way is through the witness of the Lord's Supper.Believers have a life shaped by the cross. Behind our struggles with misunderstanding and opposition is a confidence in Jesus, who suffered and died for us. And so, if you feel inadequate for a difficult situation. If you feel like your knees would buckle when faced with opposition. If you sense that your body and soul are not sufficient for the risk-taking life that we see in Paul and Barnabas here, then God has a word for you here at this table. Jesus Christ endured all for you, and he gives himself to you to be received in faith, just as we take and eat these elements. And if Christ is in you by the power of the Spirit, then all of heaven works for your good.

This month in book club, Marisa Serafini (@serafinitv) and I explore one of the most enchanting and quietly powerful reads we've picked: The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods.Blending magical realism, historical fiction, and contemporary storytelling, this novel unfolds across dual timelines—1920s Europe and present-day Ireland—following three characters whose lives are mysteriously connected through a vanishing bookshop that seems to exist outside of time.In the past, we meet Opaline, a fiercely independent woman who refuses to accept the constraints placed on her and escapes into the world of books—only to be hunted down and silenced. In the present, Martha, recovering from an abusive past, and Henry, a scholar chasing a literary mystery, find themselves drawn together as they search for answers about the same elusive bookshop. But this isn't just a mystery—it's a story about becoming the main character in your own life. About reclaiming agency. About how stories—both the ones we read and the ones we tell ourselves—can shape who we become. We dive into: The idea of “side characters” stepping into their own power Books as healing tools (bibliotherapy) and portals to possibility The tension between fate and choice How trauma, identity, and freedom intersect across generations And the subtle magic woven into everyday lifeIt's a warm, whimsical, and emotional story that asks: Who gets to write your story? A new friend recently asked me, “Emily… how long have you known the Lord?”I wanted to be as concise as possible but also transparent. I explained that I have been coming to grips recently that I was most likely a false convert when I was a teen into my early 20s and didn’t truly start following Christ until the summer after I graduated college. It’s the only way I can seem to make sense of the mess I lived in for six years after my profession of faith, after responding to an altar call at a youth conference. As I walked the aisle at that church, I responded to the news that Jesus died for my sins to be forgiven then eventually ran right back into the same ditch like a dumb sheep thinking I could rely on my own works and not Christ’s finished work of the cross, and God allowed me to fail, fall, and create a home in my pit of self-righteousness and sin for six years. But thanks be to God, that wasn’t the end of my story- the Lord didn’t leave me in that pit because one day, I was rescued. We must first remember that we cannot rescue ourselves out of a pit of sin- Jesus is the Great Shepherd who rescues His sheep. It is God who begins the work in our hearts, turning them from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh, and the longer we walk with Him, the more He will continue to mold our hearts. I don’t believe all our testimonies of coming to faith in Christ can be packaged up into a nice little box with a bow. It’s because we aren’t the author of the story- our Sovereign Lord is the author and finisher, or perfecter, of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). Scripture tells us that He is faithful to complete that work that He began in us: “…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6, NIV). Intersecting Faith & Life:You may also have a messy and complicated testimony and cannot fully explain all of what you think the Lord was doing in your heart and when, but I can tell you that even when you have been faithless, God has been incredibly faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). Even when I’m extremely dumb, hard-headed, and rebellious, He is wise, patient, and perfect on my behalf. He doesn’t give up on His children! And just as God is sovereign in salvation, He is also sovereign in our sanctification as we learn to partner with Him in our growth in Christ. He is the one who is in charge of seeing us mature on our walk with Him. The same grace that saved us is the very same grace that keeps us and molds us into the image of Christ, each new day. We will never be perfect this side of heaven, which is why we rest in the finished work of the cross of Christ, but we should be walking in holiness little by little each passing day. One way this occurs in our lives is through studying the scriptures and other spiritual disciplines such as prayer, serving others, and consistent discipleship and evangelism. The Spirit of God guides us into all truth and convicts our hearts of sin. The more we study the Bible and exercise spiritual discipline, the more the Holy Spirit renews our minds. This renewal of the mind helps us to think on eternal matters, and soon, worldly thinking and fleshly desires become less of a temptation for us the longer we walk with the Lord. Our behavior and attitude begin to change, and God gives us a desire to love, obey, and serve Him with fervor! From the moment of your conversion, you became God’s work-in-progress, and the greatest news of all is that He doesn’t grow weary, stressed, or exhausted with you. He will complete the work He began in you! God alone is enough—and He knows exactly what we need. This Crosswalk Devotional centers on Lamentations 3:24, reminding us that when we say “The Lord is my portion,” we’re declaring our trust in God as our ultimate source of security, provision, and contentment. Just as a portion is intentionally measured and given, God assigns what is perfectly suited for each of His children. In a culture that constantly tempts us to compare, compete, or crave more, this devotional gently redirects our hearts back to gratitude and trust. Whether our portion feels abundant or modest, we can rest in the truth that God never withholds what is necessary for our good. He supplies peace, strength, rest, and provision—always on time and always with purpose. Highlights God is our allotted portion—intentionally given and perfectly measured True contentment flows from trusting God as our Provider Comparison steals joy; gratitude restores it God fills every void that possessions never can Even seasons of lack are opportunities to grow deeper in trust God’s provision is personal, purposeful, and sufficient Declaring “The Lord is my portion” is an act of faith and surrender Do you want to listen ad-free? Recently, we went to a local, favorite restaurant of ours where the servers knew our family by name. It was a small but vibrant eatery, where the food was always excellent. We were not only known for our frequent visits as a family, but also for our meal selections, especially the dessert. Once we finished our meal, it was a known fact that we would be ordering this warm, giant-sized, decadent chocolate fudge brownie surrounded by scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. The servers always positioned this delectable dessert in the middle of our table and then brought us four long spoons: one for me, one for my husband, one for my oldest son, and one for my youngest son. As soon as that dish of dessert hit the table, no one had to tell us to start digging in. It was a race to the finish! My oldest son seemed to have the advantage each time, as I observed the large amount of dessert that he was able to balance on his long spoon. My youngest son was struggling with maneuvering his spoon to fit both a piece of brownie and some ice cream on it. Sometimes he would get just enough dessert on his spoon, and then the dessert would fall off the side of his spoon before even leaving the bowl. For every one spoon of dessert that successfully made it to his mouth, his older brother had already eaten about three spoons full of dessert. I had to put an end to this. On our next visit, when it was time for dessert, I requested four small plates. And before anyone could put a spoon in the bowl of brownie and ice cream, I divided the dessert, placed it on a separate plate, and put it in front of each person. Every member of my family now had an appropriate portion of dessert that was allocated to each of us. When the biblical writer says, “The Lord is my portion,” the word “portion” in Hebrew carries the notion that something is measured out, allotted, or assigned. It’s almost as if there is a gift with your name on it because it is specifically set apart and given to you. In the life of a believer, there is a dependence on God as the ultimate source of security and blessing. As our Creator and Heavenly Father, He knows and understands our every need, and He gives each of us exactly what we need when we need it. He alone determines our portion. Whether large or small, it is perfectly proportioned and just enough for the one who receives it. It is our duty to celebrate and delight in the portion God has given. In doing so, we are honoring the God who gave it. Another connotation of the word “portion” in the context of God is divine provision. There are many people in this world who feel a void, and they try to fill that void with things that still leave them wanting more. When you believe that God is your portion, you believe that God is the source of your strength in every situation. There is contentment in knowing that He will supply all your needs. Even when there seems to be an area of lack, there is a calm assurance that God will step in to make up that difference. In response, there is no desire to seek any possession or comfort outside of God. There is an unwavering trust that God is in control of all your circumstances. There is a realization that nothing is as valuable as the promises of God. This signifies a close relationship with the Provider, and His goal is to use life’s circumstances to draw you closer. As you learn that God is your portion, you learn that your need for Him outweighs your desire for other things. When you need peace, God is the One who gives you peace. When you need rest, God alone will extend rest. When you need provision, God offers provision. He provides for you what no one else can, and everything He gives to you is a blessing directly from the throne of heaven designed just for you. “The Lord is my portion” is more than a declaration. It is an affirmation that God, our Creator, our Provider, and our Sustainer, is more than enough. Intersecting Faith & Life: It is often easy to look around at what others possess instead of appreciating what we have in front of us. Take a moment to thank God for His provision and recognize God as your portion. Episode SummaryOn a warm June night in 1960, four teenagers zipped themselves into a tent on the shores of a quiet lake just outside Helsinki, Finland. By morning, three of them were dead. The fourth — battered, bloodied, and barely alive — would survive… only to be accused of the murders more than forty years later. In this episode of From The Void, we travel back to Lake Bodom, one of the most haunting and infamous unsolved murder cases in European history. What begins as a simple camping trip spirals into a decades-long mystery involving a slashed tent, missing evidence, suspicious locals, Cold War intrigue, and a trial that turned the sole survivor into the prime suspect. This isn't just a true crime story. It's a meditation on silence, memory, and the kind of violence that arrives without warning — and leaves without answers. What We Cover in This Episode

In today's conversation, I'm delighted to welcome Cynthia for the very first of our new community-centred episodes. Instead of traditional, more formal interviews, these gatherings invite you to sit with us as friends would, following curiosity, truth, and a little everyday enchantment wherever it wants to flow.I've never spoken one-to-one with Cynthia before, and what unfolded was a deeply honest exploration of intuition, leaving religion, finding your own path, and reclaiming magick as a way of being in the world. This episode is a tapestry of personal story, insight, humour, and the kind of grounded witchcraft that makes the mundane shimmer. In this episode, we explore:1. Cynthia's powerful journey from evangelical Christianity to witchcraftRaised in a religious environment, Cynthia shares how early doubts, motherhood, and profound family experiences began to untangle her from doctrine and move her toward a more authentic spiritual life. Her father's passing opened a deep reckoning about meaning, purpose, and the life she did not want to live.2. The moment she realised: “I think I might be a witch”From the heart-pounding purchase of her first witchcraft book to recognising lifelong intuitive experiences, Cynthia describes the extraordinary relief of naming what had always been quietly true.3. Intuition as a knowing beyond sightWe explore the nature of intuition, not as voices or visions but as a bone-deep knowing that often speaks before logic catches up. We share personal stories of “turn left instead” moments that proved profoundly important later.I also share how becoming a person of your word strengthens intuition and why not everything needs to be “proved” in order to be honoured.4. Religion, trauma, and the fear of a masculine godCynthia speaks openly about the harm created by the religious masculinity she was raised with and the difficulty of allowing masculine energy in again. We explore a re-framing of masculine and feminine energies as archetypal and relational rather than gendered, hierarchical, or punitive.5. Magick as relationship, not ritualI share stories from my childhood in Cornwall, early magickal encounters, and how nature has always spoken to me. I also describe my priestess training, misconceptions around deities, and why I see gods and goddesses not as authorities but as beings in relationship and reciprocity.6. The importance of community and ritual in a post-religious worldTogether, we explore what is lost when people leave religion: not the dogma, but the communal rhythm, the shared practices, and the rituals that hold us during life's thresholds. We talk about how magick can restore this sense of grounding through conscious pauses, seasonal rituals, and connection to the land.7. Everyday magick in actionFrom enchanted stones to unexpected conversations at the front door of a courthouse, Cynthia shows how magick moves through the seemingly ordinary moments of life, opening paths of service, compassion, and courage.8. Saying no, wintering, and reclaiming your own paceWe close with a reminder that witchcraft honours cycles. Sometimes magick asks us to act, sometimes to rest. Unlike religious systems rooted in constant servitude, witchcraft grants permission to protect your energy and honour your own seasons. Why this episode mattersThis conversation is a lantern for anyone who is:deconstructing old beliefsexperiencing intuitive awakeningscraving community without dogmawanting a magick that is lived, not performedrebuilding trust in themselvesseeking an approach to spirituality grounded in the land, the body, and everyday lifeIt's vulnerable, warm, wise, and deeply human. Finding Joy in the Endurance of Struggle

Keri Eichberger walks us through one of faith’s less-comfortable gym memberships—rejoicing during trials because trials train endurance. If the struggle feels like mud, endurance is the pair of boots God is forming in the mud. Romans 5:3 reminds us that endurance isn’t an accidental byproduct, it’s a forged outcome. Highlights Rejoicing in trials isn’t pretending it doesn’t hurt—it’s trusting it isn’t wasted. Endurance grows when faith stops asking “why me?” and starts asking “what now, God?” We often want instant relief; God often builds internal reinforcement first. Struggle is the classroom; endurance is the diploma; joy is the confetti we throw early. Every hard season increases your future “I can handle this” capacity. Endurance shapes character, and character holds hope steady like a paperweight in a hurricane. Joy doesn’t cheapen the pain—it celebrates the Trainer, not the treadmill. Full Transcript Below: Finding Joy in the Endurance of Struggle By Keri Eichberger Bible Reading:We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. (Romans 5:3 NLT) I’ve been through several seasons of struggle and suffering. And there’s something I really wrestle with when I am in the thick of it. It’s a verse and a call to action in the Bible, actually. That simultaneously perplexes and convicts me. It’s the encouragement to rejoice and be glad in our hurts and hardships. Of course, I want to be filled with joy at all times, regardless of what surrounds me. But if I’m being completely honest, my heart seems to resist finding its way to more positive and pleasant perspectives when it’s tossed into turmoil. One instance the Bible encourages this behavior is in Romans 5:3, when it tells us to rejoice when we run into problems. And this frankly can feel like a smack in the face, and add insult to injury. We may already be feeling pretty down, and likely far from rejoicing, and then we’re being told to rejoice in it. Which may knock us further down with self-disappointment. But, regardless of the joy we may or may not muster in the mud of a problem, I bet we can agree we both want the result referenced at the latter part of the verse. Claiming we’ll receive endurance from these trials. Personally speaking, in order to motivate me to seek and see the positive in my difficulties, it helps to understand the benefit of doing so. It helps to understand the benefit of the promised result. In this case, endurance. And let me tell you, friend, you and I definitely need endurance in this life laid out for us. A quick Google search defined endurance as “the power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way,” and “the capacity of something to last or to withstand wear and tear.” And because life is hard, difficult, and unpleasant at times, of course, we need endurance. The beautiful blessing for us Christians, who lean on the Lord through our problems, is that we are developing this endurance one season of dependence at a time. We are increasing our capacity to withstand the wear and tear of life, which we know is inevitable. Meaning our problems are one by one strengthening us. By the power of God, strengthening our character, strengthening our ability to take on the next trial with more of God’s peace and grace, and his increased patience and love. All the while reflecting more of him to a watching world. Do you struggle to see joy in your suffering? But can you see the value in gaining endurance to continue to withstand the inevitable, unending flow of problems and trials in this world? And isn't that what we all want? To be able to better handle what comes our way? Because we know so much tough stuff will keep coming. I don’t know about you, but one of my greatest fears is that I won’t be able to handle the hard things on the horizon or that will unexpectedly come my way. So, if you could assure me that the hard thing I’m going through now will allow me to better deal with the things I will face in the future, isn’t that reason to rejoice? I believe so. Intersecting Faith & Life: It certainly isn’t always natural, or even comfortable. In fact, it can be really hard when you’re walking through a dark valley. But I believe there is still a good reason to rejoice and praise God for what he is doing through it. He is the author of all things and has authority over all things surrounding you. This includes your problems, your trials, and your suffering. He will use it to strengthen you; he will use your struggles to serve you and serve others. And though no, it isn’t pleasant to walk through hard things, we can walk those hard paths knowing they will create strength and goodness. And that is something worth rejoicing and thanking God for. Let this encourage you today when you consider the difficulties swarming around you. Know that through this very thing, God will bring about the person in you who will better deal with tomorrow's difficulties. Opening the door to greater ease and peace along the journey of your life. And we can all rejoice and praise God for that today and every day. If you've been feeling like you've done so much inner work but your outer reality hasn't caught up yet… this episode is for you. Today I'm introducing a concept that completely changed how I see my current season:Your Wildly Wealthy Woman Gathering Era. This is the season where it looks like not much is happening on the outside…but internally? You are gathering everything you need for your next level. In this episode, we dive into: What your “gathering era” really is How to reframe the season where you feel behind into a powerful time of preparation, integration, and identity building. Why you feel “behind” (and why you're actually not)The thoughts high-achieving women have when their vision is bigger than the current evidence — and how shame sneaks in and makes you want to hide. Gathering instead of hidingHow to see this season as gathering:– Tools– Wisdom– Capacity– Discernment– Habits that create long-term wealth The mastermind storyI share about being in a room with women having million-dollar months and the pressure I felt — and how I realized I was never behind, just gathering. Consistency ≠ perfectionHow my “Daily 5” works in real life (move, read, post, sell, write goals)… and why following through does notmean doing it perfectly every day. Spotting your avoidant part (with love, not shame)Why there's always a part of you that wants to tap out right before you expand — and how to work with her instead of fighting her. The identity upgrade: from “becoming her” → “I am her now”We shift your language from: “The woman I'm becoming is…”to“I am the woman who…”and how that small shift rewires how you see yourself. What your Gathering Era might look like in real lifeIt might look like:– Learning new skills– Being humbled and rebuilding– Cleaning up your finances– Healing patterns around men, money, or visibility– Regulating your nervous system– Decluttering your life and business A message from your future selfA reminder that your future wildly wealthy woman is already thanking you for this season — for not giving up, for learning, for staying in the game. Key affirmations from this episode: You can repeat these with your hand on your heart: “I am gathering.” “I am not just becoming her — I am her now.” “I am walking with God step by step.” “This season is building the woman who can hold what I'm asking for.” Ready to be held in your Gathering Era? If this episode hit home and you're ready to walk through your gathering era with guidance, tapping, identity work, and a community of women doing this alongside you…

This version is a deeper dive — a good listen for our amazing Whiskey Hue family as well. The truth is, I've taken some “L's” in life. But I kept moving forward — and was fortunate to win a few more times than I lost. MAGNIFICENT VII: The Bread of Life THE BREAD THAT SAVED A LIFE During World War II, a soldier in a prison camp shared his hidden piece of bread with a fellow prisoner, offering life-saving strength. That small gesture symbolized life beyond mere sustenance. John 18:3-6 (NIV) Jesus, knowing His fate, declares “I AM He” (ego eimi), a powerful statement connecting Himself to God's covenant name revealed in Exodus 3:14, affirming His divinity. John 6:28-35 (NIV) The crowd, seeking signs, misses the deeper truth. Jesus corrects their view of manna, revealing that God's true bread, the bread of life, comes from Him. “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” BREAKING IT DOWN… The crowd focuses on physical bread, missing the spiritual truth. Jesus points them to eternal sustenance, urging them to seek the true bread from heaven. WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT JESUS IS THE BREAD OF LIFE? Bread is Essential for Life: It symbolizes sustenance. Just as physical bread sustains life, Jesus sustains spiritual life. Jesus Gives Eternal Life: Jesus contrasts physical bread with spiritual bread, offering eternal life. Jesus Satisfies the Deepest Hunger: He satisfies our inner desire for righteousness, purpose, and meaning (Matthew 5:6). THE BREAD OF LIFE – WHAT JESUS IS SAYING TO YOU Jesus is saying He is essential for your life. He offers eternal life, satisfaction for your deepest hunger, and an invitation to come and believe in Him. COMMUNION Jesus is not just a teacher or prophet—He is the Bread of Life that gives eternal life. The question is: Are you feeding on the true Bread that lasts, or settling for what will never satisfy?

Throughout these intense encounters, Paul boldly declares, "I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day" (Acts 23:1). His words and actions in these chapters offer insights into how to have a clear conscience before God.Q. How do you cultivate a clear conscience?I'm using “cultivate” on purpose. It's like a tender plant that needs attentionEx: Trying to keep a plant alive or cultivate a gardenIn Greek philosophy, conscience (syneidēsis) was understood as an internal moral compass, a faculty of self-awareness and judgment regarding right and wrong. This is the fundamental problem with the secular idea of conscience: who gets to decide what's right and wrong? Today's Oxford defn: an inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one's behavior. Our definition of sin (Pursuit Lesson 4): Sin is going your own way, trusting and acting on your own opinions and feelings instead of on God's truth. Hebrew thought associated conscience more with the heart (lev), emphasizing moral responsibility in light of God's law. From The Meaning of “Heart” in Hebrew: the concept of the “heart” is best understood as the “inner person” – the seat of our mind (thoughts), emotions (feelings), and will (intentions). In the NT, we'll see today: in light of Christ's work on the cross and the gift of the HS, having a clear conscience is about submitting your whole self – thoughts, feelings, intentions – to the Way of Jesus. Before we get to Paul's speech in Acts, let's start with his first letter to TimothyThis gives us good context for what we'll be reading in ActsIt also helps us to understand the value of a clear conscienceIt's not just good for you, your inner lifeIt's also good for the people around you, it impacts your ability to love1 Timothy 1:5 (NLT) 5 The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. The purpose = believers would be filled with loveRing a bell? Greatest commandment = LOVEWhere that love comes from:a pure heart, The whole NEW self – thoughts, feelings, intentionsAlready perfected in the court of heaven, not yet here on earthBut the longer...

Today, Ali and Asif continue their discussion about the 50th season of Saturday Night Live by discussing the recent movie “Saturday Night” (3:21). They discuss the fast paced format of the movie, which takes place in real time in the 90 minutes before the SNL premiere on Oct 11, 1975. They also chat about the spectacular cast and what is and what is not true in the movie. They guys then watch and give their opinions on the actual first episode of SNL.    Then, because Robert F Kennedy Jr. has been in the news as of late, they discuss his (and others) concerns about fluoride in drinking water (18:33). Asif starts off discussing what fluoride is, how it fights cavities and the history of why it was introduced to drinking water. Ali then asks about the adverse effects of high fluoride and Asif discusses the dental and skeletal issues. He then goes over the arguments against fluoridation. Finally he discusses a recent report about low IQ being associated with high fluoride levels and why this is likely NOT a cause for worry for the majority of people.    The opinions expressed are those of the hosts, and do not reflect those of any other organizations. Individuals are considered inherently complete and perfect from birth, as demonstrated by the innate perfection seen in a baby.Purpose of Life: It is suggested that life's purpose isn't about becoming more than we are, but about demonstrating and being true to our original, perfect selves.Life's Demonstration vs. AcquisitionMaterialism Critiqued: The text criticizes cultural and societal teachings that emphasize acquisition and attainment (like wisdom, clarity, or material wealth) as life's goals.True Purpose: The core message is about giving and demonstrating, not acquiring. On average, they will work 82,000 if they work after graduation until age 65 making career alignment critical to thrive in lifeIt is never too late to work on career development and advising, but there is an ideal time to start. Starting early is for the best.; If your teen has already hit Sophomore year, it is go time!Instead of looking at your teen as difficult or unmotivated, step back and ask if they are overwhelmed and need more support. Your teen would likely rather hear advice from someone other than you, such as a coach, teacher, or mentor. There are a lot of misconceptions and job fields that teens are unaware of, so it is important to research and explore.  “Career development is not a one-and-done. It's really important that we take two views of this. It's a long game - a marathon, not a sprint. But more importantly, that we start early, even in middle school, ninth grade, actually even younger.” – Lisa Marker RobbinsEpisode References:Is it the right time for College Major and Career Planning? https://flourishcoachingco.com/quiz Bureau of Labor & Statistics Student Resources: https://bls.gov/k12/ Get Lisa's Free on-demand video: How-to guide for your teen to choose the right major, college, & career...(without painting themselves into a corner, missing crucial deadlines, or risking choices you both regret). flourishcoachingco.com/video Connect with Lisa:Website: https://www.flourishcoachingco.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@flourishcoachingcoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/flourish-coaching-co

If we are to be able to complete the good works that God has already prepared for us, we have to first walk in the understanding that we are the direct product of God's irrefutable goodness. The Great Creator designed us. There is no question that we are valuable.  SUBSCRIBE to our sister podcasts:Your Daily Prayer: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-prayer/Your Daily Bible Verse: https://www.lifeaudio.com/your-daily-bible-verse/ Full Transcript Below: Worth More Than a Picasso  By Deidre Braley  Ephesians 2:10: For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  I once bought a Picasso print at Ikea. It features a handful of his famous animal sketches—single lines formed into dogs, horses, flamingoes. I liked the print well enough, but it was the fact that Picasso had done it that made me want to buy it and hang it on my wall.  It's interesting, yes? That the works of artists like Pablo Picasso are considered to be so inherently valuable—not for their content, necessarily, but rather for their creator. In truth, some of Picasso's drawings are so simple they look like a child could have drawn them; I'm thinking now of such sketches as “Young Peasant Boy” and “Bull.” Still, they hang in museums and are universally applauded, pondered, and revered. At some point, Picasso became a household name; one with such indisputable merit that people would pay fortunes for his work. In fact, one of his paintings—“Femme à la montre”—even sold for $139 million at auction last year.  Just as anything that Picasso put his hand to is considered to have intrinsic worth, so it is with us—the workmanship of God. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God's handiwork…” So it is of no consequence whether the world looks at us and deems us rich in color or interesting in subject matter or worthy of a bidding war. We have been created by the greatest artist in the entire universe, and because of this fact alone, we could be scribbled on a napkin and still be worth an entire fortune.  And not just that. We aren't absent-minded doodles. The verse goes on to say that we are “...created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). We were formed with a purpose in mind. Long before this world could  examine and critique and experience us—long before we were put on display—God crafted us to carry out good works. He put us into the world to make it better. Our value is undeniable.  Intersecting Faith & Life  It's one thing to say we are inherently valuable; it's another thing altogether to believe it. Often, we become so inundated with feelings of shame, inadequacy, and fear that we can hardly convince ourselves that we could be considered anything akin to art.  At times like these, think back to Picasso. His art is considered valuable because it was his hand that created it—not necessarily because the content itself is perfect, stunning, or impressive. It is that way for us, too. We are God's art, and whether we feel worthy of the acclaim or not, the fact is that we are a product of the outpouring of God's mind, hand, and genius. It is indisputable: we are precious.  And if we are to be able to complete the good works that God has already prepared for us, we have to first walk in the understanding that we are the direct product of God's irrefutable goodness. The Great Creator designed us. There is no question that we are valuable.  It is also helpful to remember this when it feels difficult to love others. When you must interact with someone who challenges you, try looking them in the eye and telling yourself, “This person is God's handiwork. They (even they!) have good work set before them. God loves them and made them with a purpose in mind.” Watch to see how your attitude towards them softens. It is impossible to remain entirely bitter-angry-exasperated-critical when you recognize the Artist behind the creation in front of you.  Further Reading  Psalm 139 Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: "From one of America's rising conservative stars comes a brutally honest account of the historic failures of the Biden administration and the most critical and urgent arguments for reclaiming American independence from our tyrannical captors in 2024...before it's too late. In America's Last Stand, Drew Thomas Allen masterfully lays out the real and severe stakes of the 2024 presidential election. America is in peril, and the Biden administration has plunged America into a Dark Age, characterized by our nation's objective moral, cultural, intellectual, and economic decay. Americans have experienced for themselves life under both the Biden presidency and the Trump presidency. Americans should ask themselves a simple question: Were you better off under the Trump presidency or the Biden presidency? America's Last Stand chronicles the failures and lies of the Biden administration, unleashes a devastating account of the Democratic Party's unforgivable history, and warns Americans of their plans to eradicate our freedoms and destroy American prosperity and security in the future. Allen also sets the record straight on the countless lies that have been spread about former President Trump. GUEST 2 OVERVIEW: Project 21 member DawnMarie Alexander Boursiquot is owner of An Uncommon Voice Coaching & Consulting and host/facilitator of “Life It's Only a Decision” (Facebook/YouTube) and “The Process319 with DawnMarie.” DawnMarie earned a Bachelor of Communications from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI and received her Masters in Psychology specializing in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from Ashford University.
