The singular Príncipe artist showcases her shapeshifting sound. Before she was simply Nídia, Nídia Borges was Nídia Minaj. Modelled after a musical idol of hers, Nicki Minaj, in 2017, she shed the borrowed surname. As she later said in an interview with The New York Times, "Today I have my own identity. I'm not going to imitate something that someone has done already." And Nídia couldn't be further from an imitator. As one of Príncipe's two non-male members, her body of work stands apart even within Príncipe's unique sonic universe. She traverses a broader emotional territory and extends to collaborations with Fever Ray, Kelela and Yaeji. Her RA Podcast is a restless affair–60 minutes of pushing, pulling, tiptoeing and gliding through the sounds of the Príncipe universe. True to the label's communitarian foundations, the mix contains predominantly original and unreleased material from her colleagues. In 2014, DJ Lilocox told RA: "Whatever your age, skin colour, sexual orientation, money in the wallet, clothes on: Noite Príncipe is for all who come to dance... forgetting the outside world." A decade on, RA.957 echoes this sentiment, a celebration of Príncipe's enduring magic: delirious, transcendent dancing for all. @nidiasukulbembe Read more at ra.co/podcast/957

Andrew has never heard a Nicki Minaj album, and Diamond is pretty sure he will hate it ... nonetheless, Nicki's debut album Pink Friday (2010) is the topic of today's podcast! There was a time when Diamond considered herself a Barb (a Nicki Minaj fan), and while her support of Nicki has waned in recent years, she wonders if Pink Friday will hold up. We also learn that Diamond's longtime go-to karoke song is on this album. Will Andrew find anything redeeming on Pink Friday? Could it backfire on Diamond and she kinda hates it too? It took two years for Nicki Minaj to take over the world. Following her 2009 mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty, she caught the attention of Lil Wayne who signed her. Minaj quickly became ubiquitous, taking over the charts and winning over rap heavyweights and pop divas with her next level guest verses. It was Nicki's debut album Pink Friday and single “Super Bass” that made her a force to be reckoned with across the board. Her pop pivot was a huge risk, especially as she pulled double duty singing and rapping on the hit. But it paid off: the song was her first Top 10 single and became the highest charting song by a female rapper since Missy Elliott's “Work It.” Joining us to discuss the song's impact and the ups and downs of Minaj's legacy is Rolling Stone staff writer Mankaprr Conteh.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

April found the Mitangi album through the hit single "Bad Girls" and was immediately struck by how untethered and unconventional it sounded as a complete work.Diamond and Andrew were both surprised that April chose an album with no electric bass on it (!). But did they find the same empowering message on Mitangi as April? There were lots of concerts this weekend. Doja Cat, the first female rapper ever to headline Coachella in its 25 year history, closed out the two weekend festival in a bodysuit covered with blonde hair. Yep, she rocked it. Nicki Minaj was in Detroit with her current Pink Lady tour and everything was going really well until this unwelcome guest made their way to the stage at the end of the night. Minaj was performing "Starships" when an unknown object was thrown toward her at the stage by somebody close to the end of the catwalk where she was standing. It was a small item, but it just narrowly missed Nicki's face and landed on the stage. So what did she do? Picked it up and threw it back at the person. I don't blame her. In other news, David Beckham has filed a lawsuit against Mark Wahlberg over a deal that fell apart regarding their partnership in that F45 Training deal. Well, per TMZ, the legendary soccer star's company is claiming that Wahlberg's investment group duped him into doing business with the fitness company in which the actor has a 36 percent interest and is on the board of directors. You know, they became friends once the Beckhams moved to Los Angeles. But according to the lawsuit, Beckham lost $10 million when the stock he owned in the deal wasn't given to him until after the stock prices had fallen. Wahlberg and his co-defendants asked the judge to dismiss the lawsuit. They describe it as fraudulent conduct, but a judge has ruled against them. Well, it turns out Beckham isn't the only athlete who has sued F45 Training. Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens sued them back in 2017, claiming the company never paid him the $700,000 he was promised in a promotional video deal. Things that make you go hmm... Nicki Minaj and her team have been called out by social media influencer and dance Donte Colley for moves that he put together in a viral video to her song "FTCU." Supporters of Donte eventually began to tag him in clips from Nicki's Pink Friday 2 Tour in which her dancers were using pieces of his dance routine on stage. He allegedly spoke with someone from Minaj's team and was offered under $100 and concert tickets for a meet and greet with Nicki, which he declined. In this episode, we break down the ongoing risk creators take by posting their talents and ideas on social media, while also addressing the negative impact of hive mentality from fans that will attack anyone for speaking less than savory about their favorite artists.

Don't be a hater, Duckies! That's the theme for this episode. And damn, does Manny really try. We start this episode by asking Manny Oso to say 1 nice thing about Generation Z. If you don't know, like he didn't, that's the population born between 1997-2012. We ask, because Nicky Trendz is tired of the older generations bitting on younger people's success. This past week Megan Thee Stalion released “Hiss”. A single for her upcoming new album. This song was laced with references and clap backs at her recent haters. Most notably, Nicki Minaj. Listen to it. See if you can find these poetic burns. The problem really arose with Minaj's odd choice of defense. Her troops got ready to rally at the helm, and she didn't seem to actively call them off. It really arose a feeling in Nicky TRENDZ about when Gen Y's and X's just don't support the next class enough. Gen X tends to hate as much as Boomers. Trendz doesn't like that. But anyways, what do you think? - did Megan's new release really set the nail down on the beef? Or can Nicki recover? - What kind of common ground do you think Gen X, Y, and Z can find with each other when it comes to working relationships? - Can you think of something nice to say about Generation Y? (Asking for Manny) Watch The Video! It's Grammy week here in Los Angeles, and two-time nominated comedian, actor, author, podcast host, and former "Daily Show" host Trevor Noah returns to host the 2024 Grammys. He always does the best job at this. It will be his fourth time as host of music's biggest night. And by the way, he's also nominated for a Grammy in the Best Comedy Album category for his 2020 Netflix comedy special "I Wish You Would." Now, in the meantime, there is so much stuff going on in town. They are back with all of the great stuff that goes on during this week. But I gotta tell you, the hottest story is about two of music's biggest rap stars. I'm not sure when the feud began between Megan Thee and Nicki Minaj but honey, it heated up over the weekend as the war of words started hitting the internet. Okay, so you probably know by now that on Friday, Meg released her latest single, "Hiss." It's a fierce track criticizing her haters, which fans have speculated included a line targeting Minaj. Well, Nicki Minaj fired back with an all-new diss track. The rap superstar dropped the one-off single, "Big Foot," which she revealed in multiple posts across social media, is directly aimed at Megan Thee Stallion, and is a follow-up to the song she released on Friday. Now, Meg mentioned Megan's Law -- the policy that requires sex offenders to register with the state -- and you know, Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, is a level two sex offender in New York. He actually served four years in prison after being convicted of an attempted rape. Minaj's brother is also incarcerated for raping an 11-year-old girl. Horrible story. But Nicki said, hey, that's her family. She hit back with "Bigfoot" making accusations about Megan Thee Stallion, referring to her mother's death and how she was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in 2020. Oh, good Lord. There is just so much drama. It goes on and on and on. Lots of name-calling. But I'm just wondering, what happened to women in the business trying to get together and support each other? Or is this just for publicity? Whoo! Whatever. Like I said, it has heated up the internet just in time for the Grammys. Oh, and by the way, we will be there backstage and on the red carpet.
