At age twelve, the same year his pitching lost his team the opportunity at the world series, Justin Schenk's hip shattered into five pieces.Soon after, his other hip needed surgery. One horse alone can pull 8000 pounds. Two horses pulling together can pull 24000 pounds. If two horses are trained together as a team they can pull up to 32000 pounds.Collaboration is the key to pulling more together. In this episode of ABC Lunchbreak Andrew, Ben, Brandon, and Christine talk about how you can grow your business with the magic of collaborative connections. One of the tricky topics we'll dove into was how do you know how much each person needs to be pulling when it comes to a collaborative project? In college there tended to be four types of group members: those that were gunning for an A+ and carried the team, those that showed up and played a bit part, those that showed up to the first few meetings and didn't really add much, and that one guy that was assigned to your group and only showed up at the end to sign his name. In work and business it can be similar. Trust, equity, and conflict are critical to drawing out each team members best work when it comes to a group effort. Each team members best effort doesn't always mean equal effort, which is where things start to get sticky!Tune in to this episode to hear more about this topic and many more!----------------------------------------------------------------Thanks for listening!Let me know what you think of the show and connect on social media!Rate the podcast on iTunesConnect with me on LinkedInConnect with me on Facebook

In today's show Alex Sunshine, a marketer that focuses on working with influencers to sell and market products, shares the top takeaway that we can glean from the most successful influencers in the game: the Kardashians. Yes we can get a butt lift, tummy tuck, and date/marry wildly crazy celebrities to increase our fame and notoriety. But that's not the only way to influence people online. What the Kardashians leveraged and utilized better than anyone was this: they allowed people into their lives and people got to know them. That's it.Even if your only goal in using marketing and social media is to build your business or stay connected with friends/loved ones this lesson can still be applied.Make sure you're letting people see the real you. Years ago Luke DePron, a Weight Loss and Transformation Coach, took transformation photos of himself for a Huffington Post article. Since then, supplement companies have stolen and recycled his photos as "proof" of their product. But there's one itsy bitsy little problem: the photos were fake! For the article, Luke took a photo of himself looking scruffy, sad, and out of shape. Three hours later after hitting the gym and getting ready for some glam shots, he took his "after" photos. Balance in your life is an overhyped myth.If you're chasing perfect balance, you've found the fast track to the hamster wheel of disappointment. You'll be working on that mission the rest of your life. If, however, you're looking for more work life harmony, you'll find it when you pay attention to your investments. When I say investments, I'm talking about time, money, relationship capital etc. All those things that continually put effort into and have the opportunity to grow and thrive over time.If you're choosing to invest heavily in a business venture, and neglect to invest in family, health, your spiritual life, and your finances, you may wake up one day to find many of those areas bankrupt. Choosing a timeframe of intense investment in certain areas might be a better strategy. If you're launching a business, taking some of your time you may have allocated towards family might be a smart play in the short term. But when that sacrifice becomes medium term and then long term, you'll see the effects of a poor investment strategy.Tune in this week as Brandon Eastman, Ben Albert, Christine Smith and I dive into Bravery and Balance in Your Business!Connect with us so you can vote on what you want to hear about next!Andrew BiernatBen AlbertBrandon EastmanChristine Smith----------------------------------------------------------------Thanks for listening!Let me know what you think of the show and connect on social media!Rate the podcast on iTunesConnect with me on LinkedInConnect with me on Facebook ----------------------------------------------------------------Thanks for listening!Let me know what you think of the show and connect on social media!Rate the podcast on iTunesConnect with me on LinkedInConnect with me on Facebook

Mark Silverman has the classic "rag to riches" story. Going from alcohol and substance abuse to homelessness to mansion and sports car and all the trappings of success. His perspective has given him a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to share. When we got on the subject of boundaries and relating with those around us, Mark shared some profound insights. We dove into the stages of boundary setting starting from the harsh oversetting to the humble and timid apologies and finally ending up setting boundaries with your knees and elbows. Those knees and elbows allow you to create space. You can be unapologetically you.We talked about the consequences of doing that. When Mark used to enter a room he was everyone's friend. He was a chameleon, shifting himself to reflect back wheat each person needed. He was eminently likeable. When he started speaking his mind and sharing his real thoughts and setting appropriate boundaries, he was shocked to discover not everyone wanted to be his friend. He got in more verbal scuffles. And many people walked away hurt or offended.Months or years later, many of those same people came back to say that he told them exactly what they needed to hear, even if it was offensive. Have you ever wondered why certain people go beyond just being successful? It seems like they have a "golden touch" where things just seem to work out. They still make mistakes, but those mistakes somehow magically lead them to their next success. They write a book every year. They have massively successful businesses while somehow maintaining a healthy personal life at the same time. And it seems like they can always quote a groundbreaking study or two in casual conversation. These types of people aren't one of a kind. There are many out there. And Jose Escobar shared a habit that many of them practice. The habit revolves around your commonplace books, a method of archiving knowledge that gained popularity in the renaissance era. By saving your knowledge you are protecting against the greatest of all human challenges: our limited memory. You can begin collecting statistics, poems, articles, insights, and studies that you can collate and use later to write your own book, create an article, or use in a speech or workshop. We've leaned into the ABC portion of it because we crowdsource what the next topic is going to be by going through the alphabet, picking a few concepts, and letting our audiences vote on what they want us to talk about. What makes a city or town thrive? What makes them feel like they are stagnant?Matt Horn, through his extensive experience working the ground between businesses and municipalities shared some mind blowing insights into the planning, work, and execution of building villages, towns, and cities that grow and thrive. The core piece of a thriving community is the sense of place. It needs to be attractive, offer the right amenities, have opportunities for shopping as well as entertainment and provide for the needs and aspirational desires of the people that live there. Mentorship is critical. Full stop.Diana Meyer was Mrs. NY American in 2021. She didn't get there by her own grit and perseverance. (Though that did help.)She had mentors. Several of them. That is a distinguishing factor about successful people that we talked about: not every mentor is going to bring you to your end goal. Some may just be a step on the way forward. Each mentor shares from their own expertise and experience, and eventually, most mentors and coaches bring you as far as they can. Carla Fowler, a DOUBLE DOCTOR (MD & PhD), believes you need to run good experiments in order to be a peak performer. A good experiment has two characteristics: 1. Look at the upside: what do I stand to gain, and what do I stand to lose? Ideally this scale is skewed in your favor where the potential for gain is significantly higher than the cost and potential of failure. 2. How am I going to learn something from this? No matter how the experiment goes, it's important that you are ready to take away some learnings and apply it to future experiments and to be able to apply it to improve your own performance (or that of your product, family, team, or business). We covered so much ground and had such a great conversation in this episode, I know you'll love every minute of it!Carla has a special gift for my listeners!
