Psalm 1 - If the Bible is all that we've learned that it is then it begs the question: What do we do with it? In this sermon we conclude our consideration of the broad category of "meditating on Scripture" and look at 2 more specific forms it can take: meditation and memorization. In all the ways we approach the Bible, we have to be ready to answer with a resounding “Here I am, speak!” We have to approach it with trembling humility—knowing that we aren't reading dead letters, but spirit-inspired and spirit-illuminated words of God. And we have to approach it with delight in full acknowledgement of the privileged, holy ground we're stepping onto when we take this book and eat it. All that we might see and savor Jesus Christ Himself and be transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. A sermon by Cameron Heger and Joel Christopher. [Part 6 of our series "The Very Words of God: Answering, trembling & delighting before the Holy Scriptures"] Questions for reflection: 1) Have you ever tried meditating on the Bible? How did you go about it? 2) Do you find an approach like "lectio divina" or, on the other hand, an approach like deep Bible study more appealing? Why? 3) What has your relationship been like with memorizing Scripture? 4) What is one verse you've never memorized that you think would be good to do? 5) What difference does the belief that the Bible is the very words of God make for how we approach it? 6) Talk about some of the ways we encounter Jesus in the Bible.

It's possible to know Scripture and still miss God's heart. In this message, Pastor Christian walks through Jesus' clash with the Pharisees over the Sabbath and shows why mercy outruns mere ritual. From David eating the bread of the Presence to priests “working” on the Sabbath, Jesus reveals that the point was never box-checking—it's covenant love (ḥesed) that fuels true obedience. Scripture: Matthew 12:1–8; 1 Samuel 21; Hosea 6:6; Exodus 20:8–11; Exodus 34:21Big ideas: You can know and still not understand. “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” Relationship fuels obedience; compliance without love grows cold. Sabbath is a gift for renewal, not a grind of rules. Try this week: Trade a checklist for compassion. Practice Sabbath rest with a soft heart toward people. Ask: Where have I kept the ritual and lost the reason? (From Radiant Church • Next Gen Pastor Christian)

I use the Rider Waite Tarot if you would like to view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Page of Pentacles, focusing on reversals. First, let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then the meaning when reversed. The Page of Pentacles upright represents ambition, curiosity, and a desire to learn and grow. It means new opportunities, particularly in career, finances, or personal growth. The reversed Page of Pentacles suggests that this enthusiasm and potential are blocked. It can signal a lack of focus, procrastination, or a failure to follow through on plans. The reversed Page of Pentacles may highlight a period where you feel scattered, unsure of your direction, or struggling to turn your ideas into action. You may be excited about new possibilities but need more discipline or practical steps to make them happen. Next, let's discuss ways to approach this card in a reading. When the Page of Pentacles reversed appears in a reading, it's a sign to evaluate your current approach to learning, growth, or career development. This card serves as a reminder that ambition alone is not enough. You need focus, desire, and discipline to succeed. It may also indicate you need to be more inspired or connected to your long-term goals. Perhaps you've started something but have lost interest or motivation. The reversed Page of Pentacles encourages you to reignite your passion and reconnect with your purpose or to let go of pursuits that no longer resonate with you.Remembering tarot cards helps when I can relate one of my experiences to the card. For example, my reversed Page of Pentacles moment came to me during some small business startups. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. For example, I bought a gift basket business in 2015 called BeautyGram. I was an enthusiastic customer for a few years before it went up for sale. I already had Carrie's Closet, so I had a complete eCommerce setup, process, and warehouse space. The truth is that I preferred buying BeautyGrams over delivering them. I found it a high-pressure business because I was relying on couriers or Mail Services to ship the boxes across North America, but I had little control over the exact time that the package would be delivered. After about a year, I was in a Reversed Page of Pentacles scenario. I decided to sell the business, and an amazing woman who worked with me in Carrie's Closet and BeautyGram wanted to buy it. It was great learning, but I am glad I sold the business and learned more about what I liked and didn't like with respect to work.Thank you for joining me in exploring the reversed Page of Pentacles. Of course, to memorize tarot, keep practicing tarot. As you listen to these three-minute lessons, you will consistently remember the symbolism that applies across different cards in the deck. Thank you for listening. When Jesus was on the earth the first time, the religious leaders knew many of the right answers. They had studied the Scriptures. Memorized them. Taught them to the people. But there was a huge problem. Jesus said, Matthew 23:2–4 CSB The scribes and the Pharisees are seated in the chair of Moses. Therefore do whatever they tell you, and observe it. But don't do what they do, because they don't practice what they teach. They tie up heavy loads […]
