Extrait : « … When Rickie Lee Jones burst onto the music scene in 1979, she was an immediate sensation. There was no one remotely like her. When week's guest - Minneapolis singer/songwriter Pamela McNeill - picked up Jones' debut on cassette at a truck stop, she was looking for some cool female-fronted music to pop into her Walkman for the long drives to gigs sitting shotgun. She got that, and more. Welcome to Coolsville...

Few singer/songwriters are as individual and eclectic as Rickie Lee Jones, a vocalist and composer who's able to weave jazz, folk, and R&B into songs for decades. Rickie Lee's greatest commercial success came at the outset of her career with ‘Chuck E's in Love', but a restless creative spirit and a stubborn refusal to be pigeon holed into any one musical niche, ensured her on-going status as a cult hero. Her second LP, 1981's Pirates added rock and soul flavours. Others followed. As the '90s gave way to the 2000s, Rickie Lee continued to explore new directions, experimenting with trip-hop on 1997's Ghostyhead, a personal take on faith with 2007's The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard, and taking an introspective look into her own life on 2009's Balm in Gilead. Assuming full control of her music when she founded her own label to release 2015's The Other Side of Desire and 2019's Kicks, her latest offering is Pieces of Treasure. It's an incredible album that sees her paying tribute to the Golden Age of American Song writing with jazzy accents. In this episode, Rickie Lee Jones tells us how she endured a stormy childhood that saw her moved around from state to state. Eventually as a teenager she fled to seek refuge in Los Angeles in the mid-'70s. There she slept on people's couches, worked a series of waitressing jobs and occasionally performing in area clubs. She found a measure of success when Lowell George, the ex Little Feat frontman decided to record her song ‘Easy Money'. After that, fortune seemed to smile on her as she enlisted Russ Titleman to co-produce her self-titled 1979 debut LP which featured the hit 'Chuck E's in Love'. Have you ever wondered who Chuck E is? I have and she explains all. With that album, Rickie Lee Jones became an overnight smash sensation. Her life was changed forever and a confident, self-assured young trend-setting artist emerged, leaving behind the shy girl who'd always resided in her cocoon. Rickie Lee Jones joins me this week to tell her story and share some of her thoughts around her musical journey. If you'd like to know more about her, head for her website https://rickieleejones.com/ and make sure you take a listen to her latest album. It's Rickie Lee Jones at her very best. Any comments, feedback or suggestions for future guests? Simply send me a message through my website https://abreathoffreshair.com.au/ I hope you enjoy Rickie Lee Jones' story.

Not many know CEC Entertainment, but they know Chuck E.Cheese. This globally recognized entertainment and dining brand has seen it's fair share of reboots since its founding days in Silicon Valley back in the 1970's. A company that hosts half a million birthday parties and two billion game plays every year, their slogan, “Where a kid can be a kid everyday ®” has been repeated (or sung) in most every American household with kiddos. Part of a system of family destinations under the bigger umbrella of CEC Entertainment, the brand boasts over 600 restaurants around the globe. With a new CEO joining in January 2020, David McKillips jumped headfirst into a Chuck-E Ball Pit—just as the global pandemic forced all of their locations to close. His decades of experience in family entertainment at Six Flags, DC Comics, Sea World and Sesame Place, were just what the doctor (or the board) ordered for this hands-on transformation and financial restructuring. A nightmare of a situation for a first-time, location-based entertainment CEO to encounter on day one, David led the company from an ineludible Chapter 11 filing to quickly launching Pasqually's Pizza—all while (more importantly) rebooting the iconic brand into a global platform. Together with Chuck E.Cheese, Peter Piper Pizza (a growing regional fresh-made pizza restaurant), and Pasqually's Pizza and Wings(one of the first virtual kitchen delivery-only brands) the group employs 13,000 people in a market that's projected to be over $40 billion by 2027. To uncover and unpack some of CEC's reboot story, David and I had this fascinating chat on The Reboot Chronicles podcast. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rebootchronicles/message
Sifting through old boxes in their collection a few years ago, curators at the History Center of Olmsted County in Rochester, Minn., wondered what to do with the dozens of old, slightly off dolls in their possession. Their answer? Scare the stuffing out of us — and have a little fun too. Launched in 2019, the creepy doll contest and exhibit has transmogrified into a Halloween tradition that's taken off on social media. The polls are open now on which doll should be named creepiest of them all for 2022. Each doll has a story, and while they may be creepy to us now in the 21st century they weren't to their original owners, Wayne Gannaway, the history center's executive director, told MPR News host Cathy Wurzer on Wednesday. “They are really hallmarks of their particular time period,” said Gannaway. “We want to educate people that besides being creepy, they inform us about our own national history both in terms of the commercial world and marketing world.” Courtesy of Caleb Baumgartner Frida Hitchcock poses for a photo, hoping to win creepiest doll of 2022. The contest helps the history center connect with more residents, especially people they don't usually reach, he added. With more than 100 dolls in the collection, it'll be a while before they exhaust their supply for the yearly contest. Gannaway said people are sending the center more dolls. Watch here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxP0KFrpamI The theme for this year's contest is cult classics. Each doll is named in accordance with the theme. This year there is Samantha Raimis, Chuck E., Carrie Torrence, Pamela Crumb, Frida Hitchcock, Blair Hanscom, Sally Strode, Rosie Romero and Wendy Craven. Online voting will close at noon on Saturday but in-person voting will still be available until 7 p.m. at the Creepy Doll Cocktail Party at the Rochester Art Center where the 2022 winner will be announced and of course, crowned in creepy glory. This time Roger looks at a month when disco was literally blowing up and people were going to the movie house to see a haunted house. On the charts, there was a danceable dirge, a self-pitying single man, some regional obscenities, a Fleetwood Mac-assisted ode to aspiring musicians, masked cowboy mockery, and a soda pitchman's one (and mercifully only) hit. Lisa Loeb does it all. She is a Grammy-winning musician, has appeared in movies, hosted cooking and entertainment shows and even has her own line of glasses. Most recently, Lisa is contributing her talents to the podcast world and is starring in the new show Power Trip. We asked her about the song that changed her life, she gave it a lot of thought. She narrowed down her options from dozens and dozens of massively important tunes to arrive at a classic track – "Chuck E's in Love" from the legendary Rickie Lee Jones.
Per molta gent, Rickie Lee Jones
We are joined by Taylor Lamborn to discuss her music and influences, fights at Chuck E. Cheese and our first ever live performance in an episode!

Rickie Lee Jones' 1981 album Pirates emerged on the other side of what had been a complex period for the artist. Her 1979 self-titled debut charted top five on the Billboard Album Charts and her single "Chuck E.'s in Love" performed similarly well. Touring extensively, her popularity continued to rise as additional media exposure, including a performance on Saturday Night Live, further elevated her profile. She would face challenges both personally and professionally as she began planning for her sophomore album.Singer-songwriter Steve Poltz joins Jeff and Matt to look back at Pirates and everything surrounding the album. He goes deep with rock and roll war stories from his own career and we discuss Stardust and Satellites, his newest solo album. As we get started, Steve shows us a bunch of personal memorabilia that he has on his walls. Here's a video of that portion so you can actually see what he's showing us!Join our Record Club to help support this podcast + get access to additional audio and bonus material!
