Ben and John begin their discussion of Blind Dog's debut album, The Last Adventures of Captain Dog. Originally self-released in 1999, the album would see a number of pressings in subsequent years on the Meteor City and People Like You labels amongst others. Though the band hailed from Sweden, they played a version of stoner rock not out of place alongside american bands such as Kyuss, COC, Monster Magnet, and Down. The band's take on US heavy ultiamtely showcased a more song-forward sensibility and musicianship that often outclassed their peers, easily avoiding stereotypes of lazy stoner musicians. Part 2 of Ben and John's discussion will be available March 8, 2022 at https://greatestthingpodcast.com and on all major platforms. The Greatest Thing You've Never Heard is a like a book club for your next favorite record. Each episode is an in-depth examination of a single album that's worthy of greater recognition. Our co-hosts, Ben and John, spend a full episode discussing an album and then often use a follow-up episode to interview the band that recorded it. Capítulo 012: On this episode of Ocu-Pasión we are joined by Madelyn Dorta, writer, producer, and founder of Wrightwood studios. Listen in as we discuss creating authentic, diverse, and epic works of fiction! "Allow yourself to be vulnerable enough to find creative joy""At the age of six, I got superpowers. That's what I thought at the time. I had the ability to pick up a #2 Ticonderoga pencil and create worlds. I could create great kingdoms, giant monsters, and badass heroines who saved the day. I had the power to create. This superpower has evolved many times through the course of my life and morphed into something different, the NEED to create. The annoying itch that can't be scratched with anything other than storytelling, trust me...I've tried. I created Meteor City in a desperate attempt to get a story out of my mind. A story that was consuming all of my waking thoughts and my dreams sometimes too. A story of afrolatina woman who tries desperately to understand and recognize the world and her community around her. Through this journey, I found my passion for audio storytelling and there is no turning back."Madelyn's creations:Meteor CityCovencast: A Disaster's Guide to Magic - co-created with Amber Bulinski Feminist Fairytales: Lina - Coming SoonFollow Madelyn: instagram.com/madelyn.dorta instagram.com/wrightwoodstudios instagram.com/meteorcitypodinstagram.com/adisastersguidewww.wrightwoodstudios.comhttps://madelyndorta.wixsite.com/mysiteListen to Meteor City:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/meteor-city/id1441670029Listen to Covencast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/covencast-a-disasters-guide-to-magic/id1490199980Ocu-Pasión Podcast is a heartfelt interview series showcasing the experiences of artists and visionaries within the Latin American/ Latinx community hosted by Delsy Sandoval. John and Ben discuss the show's 50th(!!!!) record, Solace's 2003 doom/stoner/hardcore freight train of righteous heaviness, 13. Originally released on Meteor City, 13 breaks away from the monolithic nature of the band's debut album, Further, and presents a more eclectic and arguably more effective showcase for Solace's unique and powerful brand of heavy. Throughout, the group uses distortion and seething aggression to create a level of emotional resonance and catharsis seldom found in any of the genres to which one might say the album belongs.
