On this week's edition of The Michigan Recruiting Insider Sam Webb, Steve Lorenz, and Brice Marich discussed the opening of the winter transfer portal window, highlighting several of the Wolverines' hottest targets. The conversation begins with a focus on quarterback pursuits, and the surging momentum with Maryland transfer Billy Edwards, in contrast to that with USC quarterback Miller Moss. The discussion also covered the importance of adding proven production at the receiver position, with a focus on taller, stronger wideouts like Indiana transfer Donaven McCulley. Defensive line needs were addressed, with an emphasis on Kentucky transfer Keeshawn Silver. Offensive line reinforcements like Josh Thompson and Jordan White were also discussed, along with potential cornerback additions like Tacario Davis and Emmanuel Karnley. The episode also focuses on dynamics recruiting the portal and how relationships can play an even bigger role given how often coaches are courting players they previously recruited. Sam Webb highlighted an especially noteworthy target to be on the lookout for in Georgia linebacker Troy Bowles. Several other players are discussed. Things Discussed: The Book: It's what we would have wanted. Kickstarter backers: I wrote an update but the gist is tracking numbers might come after the books because USPS. Ohio State is Flag-Mad. Brian: 11W and MGoBlog diverged in business models a long time ago: they do clickbait, we make big books. Seth: The reason this hits Ohio State so hard is they have nothing else to be proud of anymore. They bet everything on beating Michigan and then got absolutely punked again. Symbology is all that's left. Chip Lindsey: Came up through high school so he's got a lot of different ideas. Lots of coordinator experience. He develops somebody else's quarterback. QBs take fewer sacks, run less (more scrambles than called runs). Lindsey's philosophy, if there is one, is to run what works best for the players he's got. He doesn't want to have a "blob" on usage distribution—wants you to worry about screens and downfield, outside runs and inside runs. Portal? UNC guys of interest (Hampton is probably going pro). Michigan's portal strategy: looking for guys they can get value. ZVADA is the epitome of portal success: a guy who's going to be more valuable to you. Part of that value is seeing if you can make more out of a player (Barham, Stewart, etc.) than he is. You're in a salary cap world. Kentucky guys? Miller Moss? Feeling different because he's getting big portal offers. Brendon Lewis—that would be a dude; he's a Year 6 guy, probably will come down to dollars because it's not certain there's an NFL future. Don't be too worried about Underwood in Year 1 because he's not turning 18 until August. Billy Edwards? Sam nodding. UMD had the worst OL, Edwards is a perfect example of a guy who looks a lot better as a 25x/game thrower. Hoops: Danny Wolf is the tallest 5-10 guy we've ever seen. Sucks to lose to Calipari. Craig says hit your free throws. In a dozen years we'll say "I remember getting beat like that by Boogie Fland in college."

Michigan Men's Basketball vs Iowa Starts at 1:00 The first half of this game was a battle of mid-range jumpers and not turning the ball over (Iowa) vs going to the rim aggressively but turning the ball over a lot (Michigan). Michigan's amplitude of proficiency changes throughout a game are huge. This team is dead set on not taking mid-range jumpers. Addressing Michigan's rebounding woes. Did they play great against Iowa and Wisconsin? Not really. Are they still 2-0 in the Big Ten, though? Yeah. Danny Wolf turns the ball over too much by throwing the ball too hard. The play of the game played off of the big pick and roll. Michigan vs Iowa is an oddly friendly rivalry. Be careful with playing neutral site games when it comes to NET rankings. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Transfer Portal Needs Starts at 35:24 Michigan needs an offensive coordinator first. Jason Candle (Toledo head coach), Dan Mullen (former Florida head coach), and Joe Craddock (Tulane offensive coordinator) are among the biggest names rumored. Scott Frost mentioned! Michigan needs a quarterback and multiple wide receivers. Running back might be okay? Offensive line is a lot more interesting. Would like to get a defensive tackle since you're not getting either starter back. Linebacker is probably okay. 3. Hot Takes & Transfer Portal Names Starts at 58:13 Takes hotter than the fact that Georgia should not be in the playoff because they don't have their starting quarterback. Miller Moss would be the ideal scenario at QB. There's a case for Billy Edwards out of Maryland! The list falls off pretty quickly after that. Ideally you want someone to start for the year and then Bryce Underwood gets ~100 snaps. Michigan has some connections with Oklahoma Wide Receiver Nic Anderson. Michigan needs to get as many as they can. A biomechanical engineer out of Rice would be nice. There will be some players from playoff teams that hit the portal later. 4. The 2025 Recruiting Class Starts at 1:39:02 Bryce Underwood is not allowed to be the answer to any of these. Favorite guy in the class? Most unlikely to be in this class? Sleeper of the year? Most Important? Michigan is 9th in recruiting but recruiting at the same quality as Ohio State. It revolves around one guy. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio on the first day of the 2025 Early Signing Period, talking about the Trojans 2025 class that included one huge commitment from a position of need and several late misses including a local four-star linebacker that flipped to a major rival. The guys talk about all of the activity from Wednesday morning and what head coach Lincoln Riley had to say during his signing day presser on campus. They also discuss the breaking news that linebackers coach Matt Entz is leaving his post to become the new head coach at Fresno State. Entz wasn't expected to be on campus long after winning multiple national championships as a head coach at the FCS level, and he departs for the Bulldogs to take a crack at being an FBS head coach. The guys talk about the impact Entz has had during his one season on campus and how his departure played a role on signing day. The NCAA Transfer Portal opens on Monday, so Ryan and Connor talk about some of the names that have announced their intensions to transfer early, including quarterback Miller Moss, and some of the position groups they feel the Trojans need to go after once the portal opens. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down the Trojans' deflating finish after pushing No. 5 Notre Dame in the Coliseum only to see the game slide through their hands in the final four minutes and the loss of fourth-year junior quarterback Miller Moss to the NCAA transfer portal. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the wildness of rivalry weekend and flag planting before Chris uses his 'Two-Minute Drill' to discuss the atmosphere in the Coliseum late in the fourth quarter when USC was driving to try to tie the game against at top five Irish club. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Action at the 1-yard line is discussed as is quarterback Jayden Maiava's performance through the first 55 minutes. The Helium Boys both have Quinten Joyner and Makai Lemon on their stock up section while the tight ends receive some love after being on the field on nearly every snap. Shotgun also brings up doghouse Ja'Kobi Lane, who played like a dawg becoming the first USC receiver with three touchdown catches against Notre Dame since Dwayne Jarrett nearly 20 years ago despite only getting 22 offensive snaps. On the flip side, Shotgun and Chris discuss everything falling apart late in the game and how 'handling pressure' saw its stock slide while the Trojans struggled to finish strong. The unfortunate end to Woody Marks' reception streak is also brought up as is the performance of the offensive line. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the impact of USC's wide receiver usage and the debate about signature wins. There are also questions about transfer portal strategy and the possibility of an "Inferno Game" at USC in the future.. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans. Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together giving their end of the season evaluation following the Trojans 49-35 loss to Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum. Coach Hyde is not happy with the way the season played out and really wants to see head coach Lincoln Riley do a detailed evaluation of his entire program this off-season, from his coaching philosophies to his staff, players and even how he interacts with boosters, the fans and the media. The guys start off talk about how this game played out, in similar fashion to the other losses the Trojans have endured in 2024. Coach Hyde wants to see more from this offense than throwing fade routes, a strategy that worked most of the game but then cost USC late with Notre Dame's game-sealing pick-6 in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Coach says Riley is reluctant to run the football, thinks this team shouldn't be throwing it 50 times a game and when they do pass, he wants to see more variety by taking advantage of the middle of the field, something Riley avoided for most of the game against the Irish. Coach also wants to see improved line play, a lesson can be learned just from watching how Notre Dame dominated the trenches Saturday. On his season evaluation, Coach Hyde agrees with what some of the former players like Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley and Jake Olson have said on social media, this team doesn't have an identity and they should be better than they are in year three of a rebuild. Coach Hyde also feels like if the team continues to lose close games, that means it is more than just the players, it is the coaching. You can have bad fortune and lose game or two late, but not half of the schedule with most of the losses coming against lesser talented teams. Coach Hyde also talks about quarterback Miller Moss entering the transfer portal on Monday and what he would have liked to have seen for a better sendoff for the lifelong Trojan. Offense vs Northwestern Starts at 1:00 We got in a time machine and went back to 2023 and it felt pretty good. Michigan and Northwestern were about even in yardage towards the end of the first half and then Michigan runs the worst two-minute drill to result in a touchdown ever. Can you do anything Michigan did in the 2nd half against Ohio State? No. A rare compliment to Kirk Campbell. Looking ahead to Bryce Underwood. Michigan is also going to portal a quarterback. A few guys who will contribute next year got to play in this game. There's a vibe about upcoming coaching/coordinator changes. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Northwestern Starts at 34:01 Michigan was playing one of the worst offenses in America and made them look like it. Who comes back next year? The defensive tackles are gone but some ends are probably back. Will Johnson is gone but Hall is probably back. Zeke Berry is a safety playing corner so he has his limitations. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 48:06 Takes hotter than Tavierre Dunlap. What would be this team's record against last year's schedule? What would this team's record be with last year's coaching staff? Zvada is 6/6 on 50+ field goals this year. The transfer portal opens in one week and is only open for three weeks! Evaluating next year's offensive line. It will be interesting to see how a new offensive coordinator would evaluate the talent. They're probably fine at linebacker next year but the secondary is a concern. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:19:27 Ohio State 38, Indiana 15 Indiana's offensive line got destroyed which doesn't bode well for Michigan! Indiana's coaches are great but they played this game with James Madison's talent. Michigan State 24, Purdue 17 This one was fun to watch after the Victors signing event. This was being enjoyed by anyone who wasn't a Michigan State or Purdue fan. Michigan State has a "win and you're in" against Rutgers! Illinois 38, Rutgers 31 A wild ending to this one. Rutgers just stops playing defense on Illinois' game winning touchdown. Penn State 26, Minnesota 25 Penn State just hanging on by the skin of their teeth all game. There's a blocked extra point for a 2-pt return! This was a very MGoBlog score. Nebraska 44, Wisconsin 25 Nebraska is bowl eligible for the first time since 2016! Another poor performance for Wisconsin on both sides of the ball. Wisconsin hasn't had a losing season since 2001 (they're 5-6). Iowa 28, Maryland 13 Iowa runs their running back 35 times, naturally. Is it time for Maryland to move on from Locksley? Iowa Nebraska on Black Friday is now a fun tradition we're excited for. USC 19, UCLA 13 One of the Big Ten's all time greatest rivalries! There was a kickoff at the 5 yard line. The decision to bench Miller Moss is weird because he didn't appear to have been the problem. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") were hoping for a chill show following the bye week but nothing is ever chill when you cover the Trojans. The guys will try and focus on previewing this extremely important matchup with Nebraska, with both teams fighting desperately for the privilege of playing in a bowl game. The Huskers are riding a 3-game losing streak, the second-straight Big Ten opponent to have entered the Coliseum after losing three-straight, while the Trojans have dropped four of their last five games. They will also discuss the major offensive changes both programs made during the bye week, with USC benching Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava at quarterback and Nebraska promoting newly hired offensive analyst Dana Holgorsen to offensive coordinator, calling plays for freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola. The early signing period is quickly approaching and the Trojans top-10 recruiting class for 2025 is already taking hits, most notably the de-commit of four-star edge rusher Hayden Lowe. The guys weigh in on this recruiting failure and where USC can go from here to help bolster the defensive line through high school recruiting. USC is also dealing with a minor distraction after being issued a 1-year probation and $50,000 fine from the NCAA for allowing analysts to coach players during 2022 and 2023. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down another disappointing USC loss, this time with a slightly different script but with all the familiar elements as the Trojans held a fourth-quarter lead on the road only to relinquish the lead and not be able to find the end zone for the game-winning score. They also look forward, giving their thoughts on what to expect following Lincoln Riley's decision to bench Miller Moss in favor of Jayden Maiava. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun discussing the anniversary of a classic Helium Boys road trip as well as the Women of Troy getting a gutsy season-opening victory in the Aflec Oui-Play event in Paris. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to tell an epic story of trying to find food after the conclusion of the USC-Washington game. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Zachariah Branch had one of his best games this season while young pass rushers Sam Greene and Kameryn Fountain continue to earn more opportunities. Maiava's stock is obviously on the rise as he takes over the reins of the USC offense and the Trojans' run game, when given a chance, continues to excel recently. On the flip side, the Trojans' saw some weak points at right tackle as well as one of their cornerback spots. Those and Riley's playcalling are focused upon in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing young players that could become starters next season and USC women's basketball's dramatic win in Paris. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the Trojans and what stood out from Shotgun's trip to Paris. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the breaking news that USC head coach Lincoln Riley has made a move a quarterback, naming UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava the starter heading into the Nebraska game. On Monday night Connor broke the news that Miller Moss was being replaced by Maiava and on Tuesday several other reporters confirmed his report. Then after practice on Tuesday Riley made it official, saying that starting Maiava was the best thing for the team. The guys talk about this major move heading into the bye week, why they think Riley pulled the trigger and how this can impact the team for the final three regular season games including the two rivalry matchups. They also take a look back at the Washington loss that now puts USC in a tough position sitting at 4-5. After the LSU win the goal shifted to making the College Football Playoff. Now after losing four of the last five games just becoming bowl eligible is in serious doubt. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio for a Halloween edition of the show, previewing the extremely important game between the USC Trojans and the Washington Huskies. Both programs are 4-4 and both need a victory for a realistic shot at making a bowl game and finishing the season on a high note. The Trojans will have their hands full trying to play in Husky Stadium, where UW has an 18-game winning streak going. USC hasn't won a true road game in over a year and would love to finally secure a Big Ten road win, even if it comes against a familiar Pac-12 foe. Washington's strength lies in its pass defense, ranked No. 1 in the FBS. USC likes to throw the ball with Miller Moss but Lincoln Riley could find more success with Woody Marks and the ground game up in Seattle. The Trojans could get some of their injured defensive players back for this game as they try to keep the Huskies offense at bay. UW is one of the top teams in FBS in terms of total offense, but for some reason Washington struggles in the red zone, making point production much lower. The Dawgs are also terrible on special teams, which could provide an opportunity for Zachariah Branch and Makai Lemon in the return game. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the Trojans ending their 3-game losing streak with a 42-20 victory over Rutgers on Friday night. The Scarlet Knights aren't a great team, but USC was desperate for a win and needed to get back to .500 with a chance to build on that in the final third of the season. This weekend we will see if the Trojans can keep the momentum of that win going, heading to Seattle to take on the 4-4 Washington Huskies in the final real road trip of the season. It should be an interesting matchup with UW sporting the best pass defense in the country to try and counter Miller Moss and SC's receiver corps. The Huskies play much better at home than on the road and will be looking to shake off their own two-game losing streak with a win over a former Pac-12 foe. The guys also talk about why head coach Lincoln Riley's decision to close practices the remainder of the season is concerning, as this team has plenty of problems that need to be addressed and having reporters watching 10 minutes of stretching isn't one of them.
