On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together giving their end of the season evaluation following the Trojans 49-35 loss to Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in the Coliseum. Coach Hyde is not happy with the way the season played out and really wants to see head coach Lincoln Riley do a detailed evaluation of his entire program this off-season, from his coaching philosophies to his staff, players and even how he interacts with boosters, the fans and the media. The guys start off talk about how this game played out, in similar fashion to the other losses the Trojans have endured in 2024. Coach Hyde wants to see more from this offense than throwing fade routes, a strategy that worked most of the game but then cost USC late with Notre Dame's game-sealing pick-6 in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Coach says Riley is reluctant to run the football, thinks this team shouldn't be throwing it 50 times a game and when they do pass, he wants to see more variety by taking advantage of the middle of the field, something Riley avoided for most of the game against the Irish. Coach also wants to see improved line play, a lesson can be learned just from watching how Notre Dame dominated the trenches Saturday. On his season evaluation, Coach Hyde agrees with what some of the former players like Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley and Jake Olson have said on social media, this team doesn't have an identity and they should be better than they are in year three of a rebuild. Coach Hyde also feels like if the team continues to lose close games, that means it is more than just the players, it is the coaching. You can have bad fortune and lose game or two late, but not half of the schedule with most of the losses coming against lesser talented teams. Coach Hyde also talks about quarterback Miller Moss entering the transfer portal on Monday and what he would have liked to have seen for a better sendoff for the lifelong Trojan. New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys NFL Betting Pick Prediction 11/12/2023 by Tony T. Giants at Cowboys—New York right tackle on defense is out. Daniel Jones out for the season. On defense a corner is out. Dallas starters on offense and defense are healthy. New York fell to 2-7 after their 30-6 road defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders. The Giants rushed for 123 yards on 25 carries. They allowed 3.7 yards per run to the Raiders with 209 passing on 25 attempts. New York had a -2 turnover margin. Tommy DeVito completed 15 of 20 for 175 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He averaged 8.8 yards per pass attempt. He was forced into action with the injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor. Matt Barkley will backup DeVito.
Hour 1 Tommy DeVito was officially named the starter for the Giants with Matt Barkley as his backup this week in Dallas. Boomer said he deserves the right to start with the work he has put in with the Giants. Gio wonders if Giants fans want to win or do they want to lose to get a better draft pick? Which teams that will pick ahead of the Giants will also be drafting a quarterback? Jerry is here for his first update but first we somehow got into big spreads in Super Bowls. Brian Daboll talked about the challenge of playing the Cowboys with Tommy DeVito at QB. Daniel Jones talked about the tough year they're having. Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan took a shot at the Jets on the CMA's. Rob Saleh was asked if there was a mandate from above to play Zach Wilson. Troy Aikman said that Quinnen Williams said he's the ‘highest paid decoy'. Quinnen said he never had a conversation with Aikman. Victor Wembanyama made his MSG debut and it was a dud as the Knicks beat the Spurs. The Nets beat James Harden and the Clippers as Ian Eagle caught an errant pass by Harden. Scott Boras talked about Pete Alonso and how they're not in ‘contract hibernation'. In the final segment of the hour, Mekhi Becton wonders why Ryan Tannehill is going to help Will Levis, but not Malik Willis. Gio seems to think that Becton is thinking this is somehow racist. Hour 2 What would the Giants need to give up to trade up to get Caleb Williams? Would need to deal picks and a great player. Maybe Saquon Barkley? Dexter Lawrence? Gio does not want any deal that involves dealing away Lawrence. The NY Post wrote an article about Al's take on Caleb Williams crying in the stands with his mom. We also talked about the way Andrew Perloff walks in the hallways. Jerry returns for an update but first former Coyotes player Alex Galchenyuk threatened to kill a police officer and his entire family after he got pulled over for drunk driving. Zach Wilson was asked what he would tell Jets fans to assure them he is the guy for the job. Dan Le Batard wants to debate Aaron Rodgers on his achilles injury. Scott Boras was at the Winter meetings with his terrible jokes. Adam Schein called Hal Steinbrenner a ‘dope' for running it back and bunting more. Victor Wembanyama made his MSG debut and it was nothing spectacular. In the final segment of the hour, Ron Washington has been hired to be the manager of the Angels. Gio remembers that time at the age of 57 that he was caught with cocaine and he said it was his first time. Hour 3 Peter Schwartz joins us in the studio and he's going to the Jets/Dolphins game on Black Friday with the Winters brothers. Peter is also in the market for a new car and wants some help. We pitched him our idea for Boomer & Gio Live: Schwartzy the Snowman. Peter agrees to the bit. Peter also told us there was an ‘edict' that the sports updates should have more personalities. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Brian Daboll talking about Tommy DeVito getting the start against the Cowboys. Ryan Tannehill talked about being benched for Will Levis. Stephen A. Smith and Chris Russo scream over each other about Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. Paul Finebaum called Michigan ‘sleazy'. Mad Dog also argues with ‘alien Jerry'. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer is having text message issues with his iPhone. Hour 4 Tonight's game has no buzz around it as it's the Panthers vs the Bears. The Giants are 16 ½ point underdogs in Dallas. Boomer thinks Tommy DeVito will make some good throws. Gio is wondering if there is any way possible for the Giants to win. Boomer doesn't see a way for the Giants to win. The Cowboys beat them 40-0 with all of their players in their own building. Boomer wouldn't bet on the game, but would take Dallas in a knockout pool. We went around to some of the upcoming NFL games this weekend. Gio thinks Jets/Raiders is going to be an intense game. The Raiders are throwing a rookie QB against the Jets defense. Jerry returns for his final update and starts with Tommy DeVito talking about getting the start in Dallas. Daniel Jones talked about the frustrating Giants season. Rob Saleh was asked if there's a mandate from above to play Zach Wilson. Troy Aikman said Quinnen Williams said he's the highest paid decoy in football. Gio can't believe Gregg Popovich is still being a jerk to the media. ‘He hates everything about being alive' according to Gio. Ian Eagle caught an errant pass from James Harden last night. David Stearns does not anticipate Pete Alonso being traded. The Moment of the Day involves Chris Russo talking to alien Jerry. In the final segment of the hour, Gio wonders when people are going to take down the political signs from the yards now that the election is over.

In the latest episode of "2 Giant Goofballs: A New York Giants Podcast," Robs dive into the recent moves made by the New York Giants to address their depleted quarterback depth. With Daniel Jones out for the season due to a torn ACL and Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve for an extended period, the Giants have taken action to strengthen their quarterback ranks. The duo discusses the signing of journeyman Jacob Eason to the practice squad, exploring his background and the context behind this move.Currently, the Giants rely on undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito as their sole quarterback on the 53-man roster. Drew and Rob analyze DeVito's recent performances in the past two games, where he completed 63.0% of his passes, accumulating 163 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Additionally, they touch on the signing of veteran Matt Barkley to the practice squad in response to Taylor's injury. The host provides insights into Jacob Eason's NFL journey, highlighting his previous tryout with the Giants during mini-camp in June and his limited appearances with the Indianapolis Colts and the Carolina Panthers. Eason's career statistics, completing 5 of 10 passes for 84 yards with an interception, are examined. The uncertainty surrounding Tyrod Taylor's return from injured reserve has prompted the Giants to explore options to reinforce their quarterback depth, with Eason being the latest addition.Shifting gears, the episode also covers the Giants' acquisition of running back Hassan Hall, who joins the practice squad. Hall's journey through multiple NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns and the Arizona Cardinals, is discussed. The host takes a closer look at Hall's attributes, including his quickness, agility, and explosiveness showcased during his Pro Day.Hall's college football journey, starting at Louisville and later transferring to Georgia Tech, is outlined. Despite not having an extensive workload at either school, Hall's consistent performance is noted, with 1,820 yards on 386 carries, an average of 4.7 yards per carry, and a total of 12 touchdowns. His versatility as a receiver and significant experience as a kick returner make him a valuable addition to the practice squad. In addition to these roster moves, Rob previews and provides their predictions for the upcoming NFL Week 10 matchups, offering insights and analysis for each game, including point spreads and over/under predictions. In this episode of "2 Giant Goofballs: A New York Giants Podcast," Drew and Rob tackle the somber news surrounding the New York Giants. The duo opens the show with the unfortunate announcement that starting quarterback Daniel Jones is officially out for the season with a torn ACL, as confirmed by Giants head coach Brian Daboll. They reflect on Jones's season, which was cut short, with two touchdown passes and six interceptions in six games, during the first year of his four-year, $160 million contract.Daboll sheds light on the situation, revealing that while surgery is imminent, the exact timing remains uncertain. With Jones sidelined, the hosts explore the quarterback options for the Giants, particularly the presence of Tommy DeVito, the sole quarterback currently on the 53-man roster. They also delve into the addition of veteran Matt Barkley, who was signed to the practice squad the previous week and is expected to join the main roster. To compound the Giants' quarterback woes, backup Tyrod Taylor is on injured reserve for at least three more games due to a rib injury sustained during Week 8 against the New York Jets. Drew and Rob provide insights into the potential timeline for Taylor's return and the implications this has for the team.Beyond the Giants' quarterback situation, the hosts move on to recap the highlights and surprises from NFL Week 9, offering their thoughts and reactions to the action-packed week in the league. It looks like Daniel Jones has a torn ACL and looks like it will end his career as a Giant. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen will seemingly get their chance to draft a QB of their own. We talked about Daniel Jones' contract going forward and the potential for a trade. Boomer said you have to keep drafting quarterbacks until you get it right, and this upcoming draft has a number of good potentials. C-Lo returns for his final update and starts with Daniel Jones' knee injury. Brian Daboll contradulated Antonio Pierce on the win. Jerry Recco was on the call for Cowboys/Eagles. Josh Dobbs had himself an awesome day and got a game ball as the Vikings beat the Falcons. C-Lo had some baseball notes including the GM meetings starting soon. The Moment of The Day involves Boomer trying to relay what Tyreek Hill said prior to the game. Something about ‘show out that work'. In the final segment of the show, Gio had a mix up with dinner reservations on Saturday night. It was a ‘tail between my legs' spot according to Gio. Boomer is looking ahead at the Giants/Eagles in week 16 and week 18 and the Eagles possibly resting their starters. That could screw up the Giants losing for draft picks. The next 3 games will be either Tommy DeVito or Matt Barkley at QB.
Hour 1 Gio thought Antonio Pierce was going to motivate the Raiders over the Giants but he didn't expect the game to be over at halftime. Daniel Jones may have taken his final snap of the season for the Giants as he is thought to have torn his ACL. He has an MRI scheduled. It looks like Tommy DeVito is going to be the quarterback the rest of the way. Will John Mara have patience with Brian Daboll? Gio wants him back. Boomer said the Giants/Patriots game will be played for the higher draft pick. There are a number of decent quarterbacks that will be in this draft. We talked about the teams the Giants will be competing against for a top draft pick. C-Lo is in for Jerry and is here for his first update. He started with the Giants loss in Vegas and Jones' injury. Antonio Pierce talked about getting his first win. The Bills lost last night in Cincinnati which is good news for the Jets. The Eagles beat the Cowboys and C-Lo has Jerry's play-by-play calls. CJ Stroud threw for 470 yards and 5 TDs. And Josh Dobbs won a game for the Vikings and he just got there earlier in the week. In the final segment of the hour, Xavier McKinney of the Giants said leaders on the team are not really being heard. The Giants didn't seem very motivated in that game, even before the injury to Jones. Hour 2 We talked about interim head coaches like Antonio Pierce and we remembered Jim Tomsula farting at a press conference when he was interim head coach. We took calls from disgusted Giants fans. Former Giant Lawrence Tynes is not a fan of Sal Licata for the way the Carl Banks interview went down. There have been a lot of terrible roughing the passer calls in the NFL this season, including some yesterday. C-Lo returns for an update He starts with Brian Daboll talking about Daniel Jones' knee injury. Antonio Pierce was fired up for the win and is looking forward to playing the Jets next week. We heard from Jerry Recco on the call for Cowboys/Eagles. Josh Dobbs played a great game for the Vikings even though he just got there earlier in the week. In the final segment of the hour, Andrea the sports astrologist from California calls in. Hour 3 We talked about the Dolphins not playing well against good teams. Boomer said they are a different team at home. C-Lo returns for an update but first we talked about the NYC Marathon that took place yesterday. The Giants lost again and are now 2-7. The Eagles beat the Cowboys to improve to 8-1 on the year. The Bengals beat the Bills for their fourth straight win. The Chiefs beat the Dolphins in Germany despite being shutout in the second half. Josh Dobbs and the Vikings beat the Falcons. He took zero snaps in practice this week. CJ Stroud threw 5 TDs in the Texans' comeback win against the Bucs. In the final segment of the hour, Caleb Williams jumped into the stands and was very emotional with his mother, crying in her arms. Some people said it shows he really cares, others think it was a moment of weakness. Somebody upset James Brown prior to the draft with their take on CJ Stroud. We also talked about the top QBs coming out in the draft after Caleb Williams. Boomer's got that big Penix energy. Hour 4 It looks like Daniel Jones has a torn ACL and looks like it will end his career as a Giant. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen will seemingly get their chance to draft a QB of their own. We talked about Daniel Jones' contract going forward and the potential for a trade. Hour 1: Will the Bills look for a quarterback once all NFL teams cut their teams down to 53?
Hour 1: With the injury to Matt Barkley is there a concern at quarterback behind Josh Allen
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over his biggest winners and losers on the heels of the Buffalo Bills going to Pittsburgh and playing (mostly) awful in their second of three preseason games. Patrick highlights three areas that were not only a sore spot in Pittsburgh on Saturday night but positions that given Bills fans credible causes for worry since the offseason began: middle linebacker, right tackle and offensive tackle depth. He also drops takes on a handful of players that definitely did not help their cause at other positions during this game, including Kaair Elam, Matt Barkley and a few wide receivers. Conversely there were definitely some bright spots to take away from the game and Patrick discusses the the starting right guard competition feeling essentially over, a good day for two wide receivers and Greg Rousseau looking solid during his playing time. In addition to more Bills observations Patrick has a few thoughts and perspective on legendary Buffalo Sabres broadcaster Rick Jeannerett passing away at the age of 81 last Thursday. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatMoranTweets. Hour 1: Does Matt Barkley have the edge over Kyle Allen as the Bills gear up for their second preseason game
On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran goes over his biggest winners and losers on the heels of the Buffalo Bills opening the preseason with a 23-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts this weekend at Highmark Stadium. There was plenty to like about Buffalo on Saturday, including James Cook looking electric in his brief time on the field, a trio of unheralded wide receivers trying to make a name for themselves, a pair of offensive lineman showing some promise and of course, Matt Barkley playing himself directly into a QB2 competition. On the opposite side, Kyle Allen continues to struggle badly this summer, a linebacker has completely out of any starting competition, Kaiir Elam doesn't really take advantage of an opportunity and Khalil Shaker showed why he's capable of making great plays but equally prone to unforced mistakes. That and plenty more today. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatMoranTweets. Matt Barkley is an NFL Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. During his nine year NFL career, Matt has played for nine different NFL clubs. Matt was drafted 98th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013. Before arriving on the NFL scene, Matt started every football game he had ever been apart of. That changed when he was drafted to a team with, now, two SuperBowl winning quarterbacks, Michael Vick & Nick Foles. Off the field, Matt is father to three kids & husband to his kindergarten sweet heart. He is also a Bitcoin maximalist. His first exposure to the cryptocurrency was back in 2016 for less than $1000 per coin. He also bought Ethereum for $30 at that time. Matt has an incredible story of resilience & conviction.
