Chuck Foreman was one of the NFL's most feared fullback's of the 1970s. In fact, he might have been the best fullback in the game during those years. Drafted in the 1973 first round by the Minnesota Vikings out of the University of Miami, Foreman was told by Vikings Head Coach Bud Grant that he would be the focal point of the Minnesota offense, but the way they would use him, despite the fact that he would rack up big numbers, he wouldn't get the recognition he deserved. Grant was right. Over the course of Foreman's 8-year career, he he combined to rush for and catch passes for 9,106-yards. He scored 76 touchdowns, in 1973 he led the NFL in receptions with 73. He was the 1973 Offensive Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Pro in 1975, Pro Bowl in 1973, 74, 75, 76. Led the Vikings to three NFC Championships and played in three Super Bowls. yet, with all of those accolades, somehow, Foreman's accomplishments got lost in the shuffle. Somehow, his numbers did not impress the right people and despite the fact that his numbers are better than such Hall of Famers as Terrell David, Marion Motley, Larry Csonka, and others, Foreman was never considered for the Hall of Fame. On this episode of Sports' Forgotten Heroes, Chuck joins for a discussion on his great career, the Hall of Fame and some very fun stories.

Many think he should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Afterall, he's one of only four defensive players on the NFL 1970's All-Decade team not in Canton and the only corner back on that same list without a bust. But to Louis Wright, all that matters is what his teammates thought of him. He grew up in California and gravitated to track and football in high school. He spent one year at Arizona State where he was moved from his high school position of defensive end to defensive back. As Louis says he “partied” his way out of ASU after one year and returned home to attend junior college where he ran track and sat on the bench for the football team. He got back to a Division One school when San Jose State offered him a track scholarship. Then a very smart assistant football coach saw him running and convinced him to join the football team. He rode the pine again, until the Spartans played ASU (coincidentally) and Louis was called in for a play. He made a spectacular tackle and never sat on the bench again. The Broncos chose Louis with the 17th overall pick in the 1975 draft. His 12-year career with the Broncos included accolades like 5 Pro Bowls, 4 First-Team All-Pro, Ring of Fame, 50th Anniversary Team, two Super Bowl appearances, 26 career interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries. His stats are not as high as other DB's because quarterbacks feared what might happen if they threw his way, so many times they didn't. After he retired, Louis finished his degree and eventually earned his teaching certificate as well. He recently retired from 28 years of teaching and coaching in the Denver area. He continues to run (in his 70's), stay in touch with teammates and keep his humble attitude.

Roc Nation (17:45): International soccer stardom, missing Messi, and the atmosphere of European football, career longevity. “There's 2 sides to everything. And I'm a realist, so I'm always going to keep it 100.” Sauce Gardner The NY Jets 2x All-Pro cornerback is setting the record straight, responding to verbal accusations about the organization and providing context to unanswered questions and speculation surrounding the Jets culture and future of the team. Only the 3rd guest to make a repeat appearance on The Pivot, Sauce chats with Ryan, Fred and Channing about everything from growing up in Detroit to his love of music to being a leader in the locker room to what 2024 looks like for The Jets but most importantly, Sauce was strong in his purpose of letting the world know, the bull crap and false talk about his team, needs to come to an end. Stemming from a recent conversation The Pivot had with Mecole Hardman, Hardman spoke out against his former NY team, listing numerous reasons he was happy to have left the organization as well as revealed the inner workings from his experience that painted the team as complacent and a disorganized mess from the top down lacking leadership, treating star players differently than the rest of the roster and not being able to have success despite having extreme talent. Sauce spoke out on social media after the Hardman did along with other Jets players who also debunked the claims sharing his side speaking in facts only about the team, their approach and the coaching. He was extremely clear on certain aspects of the season, spoke in detail about the locker room mentality and made sure it was known that the standard is the standard in NY and the team is not an ego driven program as described. Although frustrated with the narrative that Hardman and others have used about the Jets, Sauce is open about wanting others to succeed and believing everyone can eat if they work hard enough, he applauds Mecole for another Super Bowl win but says he should have taken the high road and not even mentioned his former team. The 23 yr old, young in age but wise far beyond his years, carries himself more as a veteran in the NFL than the young rising star he is. The early expectations were not for Sauce to reach the level of stardom he has now, yet with all of the fame and success, he discusses the importance of humility and grace. With a 96 overall Madden rating, Sauce understands that it's the little things that separate people from good to great which is why he explains making it a priority to learn something new as often as he can by chatting with everyone in the building from the GM to the cafeteria people to the groundskeepers to his teammates, understanding that's the best way to sharpen your skills is through communication and never being too big to learn from anyone. Playing in the biggest city brings a lot of attention and sometimes turmoil, which Sauce details one particular incident that highlighted his new reality while using his roots to handle the issue. This was the cause for roughing the waters between Sauce and Hardman, as he explains his former teammate's involvement in the situation. Dealing with a hacking issue on Snapchat, false claims about his personal life, exposure of privacy on blogs while also being extorted, Sauce never caved from who he is at the core and never allowed the off the field chaos to affect his play. The only player to be named First Team All-Pro in his first two seasons since the 1970 merger, Sauce has etched his name as one of the best at the position and is just getting started. Being touted as a future Hall of Famer comes with a lot of pressure, which is why he continues to focus on each day like it's his first day. Sauce didn't have a role model growing up, so he strives to set an example and be a voice to young guys who came up just like him. With free agency underway and the draft coming up, Sauce says his team wants are simple, “I want Aaron to feel comfortable in the pocket and for Garrett to not always be double teamed.” Learn more about your ad choices. Free agency is nearly upon us, and the Philadelphia Eagles could lose two of their veteran players. Defensive end Brandon Graham and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox are both interested in joining the Cleveland Browns. The news was reported by Jared Mueller of SB Nation. One of the most beloved Eagles' players, Brandon Graham, is the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia. With 13 seasons under his belt, the 34-year-old prefers to finish his career in midnight green, but is open to signing elsewhere depending on the Eagles' offer. Graham has a career total of 449 combined tackles, 70 sacks, 22 forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries. He completing a career-high 11 sacks this past season, and was one of four defensive players to finish with 10+ sacks, making NFL history. The defensive end made the Pro Bowl for the first time in 2020, and has been significantly underrated during his career. He is now generating a lot of interest around the league, particularly from the Cleveland Browns. Also linked to the rumor is teammate Fletcher Cox. At 32 years old, Cox has seen better seasons, but after 11 professional years, the Browns are also interested in bringing him on board. Cox is a one-time First-Team All-Pro, three-time Second-Team All-Pro, and six-time Pro Bowler. While in Philadelphia, he's completed 486 combined tackles, 65 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, and 13 fumble recoveries. The move to Cleveland would reunite both Graham and Cox with former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Schwartz coached for Philadelphia from 2016-2021. Despite inheriting one of the worst defenses in the league, he turned the team around, putting them in the top-five before he departed. This January, he was hired by the Cleveland Browns. The Browns also employ two former Eagles executives who overlapped time with Graham — general manager Andrew Berry and assistant general manager Catherine Raiche. This past season, the Browns were last in the AFC North, finishing with a 7-10 record. On defense, they have a huge playmaker in Myles Garrett, but after that, help is sparse. As free agency looms, Cleveland will be look to gain serious playmakers. As for Philadelphia, Fletcher Cox is probably the most likely to go. Following the 2021 season, there were many rumors Cox would be traded. Now, a free agent, his contract value stands at $14 million.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Season 13, Episode 73 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers signing 10 players to Reserve/Future contracts on Tuesday. We also go over a few other newsworthy and not newsworthy talking items that seem to be making the rounds on Wednesday. As part of the early offseason process, Alex and I review a set of players set to become free agents this offseason. We cover the two exclusive rights free agent players and the four restricted free agent players in this show and give our thoughts on each.We still don't know for sure what is going to happen to Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada this offseason but that doesn't stop us from talking about his reported current contract situation and what that might mean in the grand scheme of things.Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth had a recent interview on 93.7 The Fan so Alex and I talk about some main items from that. Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was voted a First-Team All-Pro by the NFLPA on Wednesday, so Alex and I discuss that news.Alex has kicked off the annual Steelers Depot Offseason Awards, so we go over his selections in various categories. Included in that are great discussions about Steelers tight end Connor Heyward, cornerback Cameron Sutton and more.We mix in other Steelers talk throughout this episode that is not noted in this recap post and as usual, we close down this show by answering several emails we received from listeners of the show.
Ahead of the Patriots matchup with the Dolphins in Week 1, Brady sits down with former Dolphins and Bengals OL Richmond Webb. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time First-Team All-Pro. He talks to us about the matchup on Sunday, OL play in his day, the hardest defensive players to go against and his new Dolphins-related podcast.
On today's show, Pat, AJ Hawk, and the boys chat about an incredibly exciting week 1 of college football, all the different NFL stories that happened over the long weekend, and they look ahead to Thursday's NFL opener with the Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills. After a stellar 14-year NFL career, all with the San Francisco 49ers, Bryant Young was inducted earlier this month into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In honor of his enshrinement, we are revisiting a conversation that he and his wife, Kristin, had on Table Forty in late December 2021. Young was one of the best defensive players of his generation. Named to four Pro Bowls, he was also named a First Team All-Pro in 1996. In 1999 he was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year by both the Associated Press and the Professional Football Writers Association, and in 1994 he was named to the NFL All-Rookie team after a stellar three-year college career at Notre Dame. He also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2nd Team All-1990s Team. It was at Notre Dame that he met Kristin, and they've been together for 31 years. At his enshrinement, Young was presented by his daughter, Kai, and former 49ers owner “Mr. D,” Edward DeBartolo Jr. With the rest of his family in attendance as well, he gave a powerful speech in which he gave glory to God and honored his late son, Colby, who passed away in 2016 from cancer at the age of 15. Be sure to watch his entire speech here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvS4rznuJj4 “Table Forty” is part of the Sports Spectrum Podcast Network.
Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV.Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward has made it clear lately on his new podcast Not Just Football that he's not happy with ESPN's ranking that placed him as the NFL's No. 5 defensive tackle. There's been a lot of outlets who've ranked Heyward lower than he believes he should be in the NFL after being First Team All-Pro with 10 sacks in 2021. That fires up Heyward, and in turn, the rest of the Steelers defense.Heyward also discussed how the Steelers' quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky will need to be ready to face real pressure from the Steelers' defense in training camp practice. If Heyward, T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and company can provide good pressure in practices, it will help the offensive line and the new quarterbacks acclimate to the Steelers' system faster and be more ready to lead the team in the regular season.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter, NFL and NCAAF analyst, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.Breaking news! The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Wednesday that they had signed two-time First Team All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to a five-year deal, four-year extension that keeps him with the team through the 2026 season. Fitzpatrick was on the final year of his rookie deal and the new agreement gives him a four-year extension worth reportedly an average of $18.4 million per year. That makes Fitzpatrick the highest paid NFL safety in the history of the league, with his deal getting him approximately $73.6 million over the four years of his extension. That's more than Jamal Adams, Justin Simmons, Harrison Smith and the rest of the big name safeties in the NFL. The deal also comes in before the Cincinnati Bengals could get an agreement with Jessie Bates or the Los Angeles Chargers with Derwin James. It's an important move for Omar Khan to get out in front of the coming safety market and set the rate that other teams have to work around as the NFL salary cap increases in the coming years.CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COMFollow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques.Theme music is 'Soul Kick' by Ceddy P, and 'Too Easy' by Nerdboy. An Official Miami Dolphins Podcast Despite an injury-shortened career that lasted just eight seasons, Dwight Stephenson is universally regarded as one of, if not the greatest center to ever play the game. The Miami Dolphins second-round draft choice in 1980 followed back-to-back national championships at the University of Alabama with five Pro Bowl appearances, 4 First-Team All Pro nods, the 1985 NFL Man of the Year Award, a forever home in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and a spot on the NFL's 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. In the tank, Dwight discusses how the Hampton, Virginia native ended up at Alabama under legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant (5:55), recalls how intimidating Dolphins coaching icon Don Shula could be (9:37), reflects upon his one-armed performance against William “The Refrigerator” Perry in the team's epic 1985 victory over the Chicago Bears (16:23), explains why he often had to quiet down an excitable Miami huddle when Mark Duper and Mark Clayton were around (20:45), laments breaking Kim Bokamper's ankle (25:33) and Dan Marino's finger (29:04), and openly details the circumstances surrounding the injury that ended his storied career (40:11). Contributors to this episode include Sean “DJ Prec” Todd and Dolphins Productions. Theme song created and performed by The Honorable SoLo D.
On episode 35, Shannon welcomes in 6x Pro Bowler, 5x First-Team All Pro, 3X NFL receiving TD leader, the All-Decade Receiver of the 2000's and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Terrell “TO” Owens. Terrell and Shannon cover the span of TO's career from his personal vantage point: the disrespect Owens felt at his initial Hall of Fame snubs, the systemic racism he says he experienced while with the San Francisco 49ers, why his relationship with Donovan McNabb in Philly soured and how the star receiver learned he was being cut from the Cowboys. Terrell talks about how he was perceived in the media vs who he really is, playing in the Super Bowl with a broken leg and the story behind the infamous "sit-ups" press conference in the driveway. Terrell names the best WR in the game right now and explains why he really thinks he could return to the NFL. Don't miss Shannon's in-depth one-on-one with Terrell Owens! On episode 23, Shannon welcomes in 1998 Heisman trophy winner, 2002 NFL rushing yards leader, yoga instructor, astrologer & host of the Curious Questions podcast: Ricky Williams. Ricky discusses choosing the University of Texas over USC, playing minor league baseball and college football, being drafted by the Saints, signing with Master P's agency, and his 2002 First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl season with the Dolphins. He talks Shannon through his experience failing two drug tests in Miami, retiring early from the NFL and traveling the world on a journey of self-discovery before returning to the league. He discusses how astrology, yoga, and cannabis have helped him reconnect with his spiritual side, and how his career might have panned out differently if he didn't receive so much negative attention. Ricky's football career is known both for his on-the-field accolades and the heavy media scrutiny over his early retirement.
