The Practicing with Purpose: For Lawyers Only podcast, hosted by Cindy, is an exceptional show that brings immense value to the table. As someone who has followed Cindy's career for years, I can confidently say that she is a true professional in every sense of the word. Whether she is leading a crucial negotiation or hosting an episode of this podcast, Cindy consistently delivers insightful and valuable content that lawyers can benefit from.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the wide range of topics covered. Each episode delves into different areas of law practice, offering practical tips and advice that lawyers can immediately implement in their own careers. From effective client communication to navigating complex legal issues, Cindy and her guests provide valuable insights into various aspects of practicing law. This diverse range of topics ensures that listeners will always find something relevant and helpful to their specific legal practice.

Moreover, Cindy's expertise and knowledge shine through in each episode. She brings a wealth of experience to the table, having worked as a successful lawyer for many years. Her ability to articulate complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner is commendable. Whether you are an experienced attorney or just starting out in your legal career, you will find value in the wisdom shared by Cindy on this podcast.

However, it is worth noting that some episodes may not be as relevant to certain listeners. As the show covers a wide variety of topics related to law practice, there may be episodes that do not pertain directly to all types of attorneys. While this can be seen as a minor drawback, it does not diminish the overall quality and value provided by this podcast.

In conclusion, The Practicing with Purpose: For Lawyers Only podcast is an excellent resource for any lawyer looking to enhance their legal skills and knowledge. With Cindy at the helm, listeners can expect nothing less than top-notch content delivered with professionalism and expertise. Ep. 78: Negotiating Through Transformational Advocacy

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 11, 2024 43:12

Almost everyone shies away from advocacy as a way to make a difference. We donate to climate change organizations, but we don't meet with a member of Congress or write a letter to the editor. We donate to anti-hunger organizations, groups dedicated to racial justice, and many others, but we don't become advocates on those issues beyond signing an online petition or going to an occasional rally.   Why? Because most of us see advocacy as too hard or too frustrating, too complicated, or too partisan, too dirty or too time-consuming, too ineffective or too costly.   But what if that's all wrong? What if deep engagement dissolves discouragement and can actually bring joy? What if you can become an advocate for a cause you care about and feel fulfilled, not frustrated? And what if engaging as an advocate is essential to protecting our democracy?   In this episode, your host Cindy Watson will be joined by Sam Daley-Harris, Sam Daley-Harris founded the anti-poverty lobby RESULTS in 1980, co-founded the Microcredit Summit Campaign in 1995, and founded Civic Courage in 2012. The 2024 edition of his book Reclaiming Our Democracy: Every Citizen's Guide to Transformational Advocacy was named an editor's pick by Publisher's Weekly BookLife.  Kirkus Reviews wrote: "Overall, [the author's] analysis of effective action is as persuasive as it is accessible, and his call to democratic participation is inspiring. A handbook for aspiring activists that readers will find to be both inspiring and practical."  Daley-Harris has been interviewed on NPR's Here and Now and 1A and on PBS's Laura Flanders and Friends.  Ashoka founder Bill Drayton said, “Sam Daley-Harris is one of the certified great social entrepreneurs of the last decades.”   Key takeaways:   Why people shy away from advocacy? The difference between transactional advocacy and transformational advocacy. Advice to empower those losing faith in their ability to make a difference. The three things to look at in an organization. What is transformational advocacy and how to apply it in life? The three questions to ask when  going to meet a member of parliament or a member of Congress who opposes their bill. Ep 33: Financial Planning for Young Lawyers with LJ Jones

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 1, 2022 30:14

LJ Jones is the Founder of Developing Financial LLC, a financial planning firm dedicated to providing financial planning solutions for young lawyers in their first 10 years out of law school. Engaged to a lawyer, he's seen first-hand how little financial education is provided to graduating law students. Ignoring and avoiding our personal finances can create unnecessary stress and anxiety that affects personal and professional lives. Between student loan repayment, knowing if you're saving and investing correctly, and possibly preparing for partnership, young lawyers face unique financial challenges. Law school isn't set up to teach personal finance, but making smart financial decisions is almost as important as your technical legal knowledge. LJ's goal is to provide high-quality financial solutions to people often ignored in the industry. Through his financial planning process, he works with young lawyers to identify what is most important to them. It may be travel, buying a home, starting a family, paying off student debt, or anything else they value. Then, the financial plan is built together.  In this episode, we discuss: - Understanding finance as an up-and-coming lawyer can improve your business endeavors when opening a new firm. - Planning for retirement early. - Take in your goals and reevaluate your lifestyle yearly to know you're on the right track. - School doesn't teach life skills. It is up to you to learn them yourself.
