Kylian Mbappé is busy preparing for the UEFA European Championship with France, but that didn't keep him from revealing some troubling revelations about Paris Saint-Germain.On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Jonathan Johnson from CBS Sports to react to Mbappé's comments about his experience at PSG, the latest on Xavi Simons, the latest transfer rumors, and I get his prediction on who will win the Euros this summer.Up first, we dive into the Mbappé situation where earlier this week, he said that at the start of the season, he was told in a violent manner that he would not be playing for PSG. It wasn't until Luis Campos and Luis Enrique intervened that he was able to play. We react to Mbappé's press conference and why there is bad blood between the former PSG superstar and Nasser Al-Khelaifi.I also asked Johnson whether he thinks Mbappé colluded with Real Madrid to leave on a free transfer and whether the Frenchman will be viewed negatively for chasing a trophy that he couldn't win at PSG.We transition away from Mbappé to another player causing drama for PSG. Xavi Simons was expected to return to France following his loan at RB Leipzig, but his future remains in question, with a decision likely coming after the Euros. I asked Johnson his thoughts on where he sees the Netherlands international playing next season. The show concludes with Johnson reacting to the latest transfer news that PSG is interesting in signing Julián Álvarez from Manchester City and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. I also get his pick to win the Euros and which PSG player will have a breakout performance. As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. It's a good thing there were fireworks after the match to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain's 12th Ligue 1 title because during Kylian Mbappé's final home match against Toulouse FC, there was very little to celebrate. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Marc Damon to discuss Mbappé's announcement regarding his future and why his legacy at PSG is so complicated.Up first, we discuss Mbappé's rehearsed farewell video that was posted to his social media channels last Friday. We discuss the timing of the video's release and the fact he didn't mention PSG's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.Then, we discuss the positives regarding Mbappé's legacy at PSG, but also some of the negatives, and that contrast is likely what caused some of the supporters at the match on Sunday to whistle when his name was announced. There's no question Mbappé has the best statistics at PSG and may be the best player in club history. However, he failed to deliver a UEFA Champions League title, and having his heart set on joining Real Madrid one day may have played a role in that.We highlight Mbappé's potential role in his transfer rumors over the years and how he may have traded being loved unconditionally at PSG for the level of control he desired to get to where he always wanted to go.The show concludes with us talking about PSG's future and why the goal has to be to build the best sporting project possible around Bradley Barcola, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Vitinha, and PSG's other rising stars. If the club can do that, they may just win a Champions League title before Mbappé.As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. Today's guest sits at the epicentre of the football business. Charlie Marshall is the CEO of The European Club Association (ECA), the hugely influential organisation, which is the only group officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA as the sole, independent body for football clubs at European level. We talk about the big issues facing the game in the post-Super League era, as ECA seeks to balance the sometimes conflicting objectives of its constituency of members, from the biggest clubs in the world to some of Europe's minnows and everyone in between. Topics covered include:The changing format and access to Uefa club competitionsThe likely impact of new financial regulationsThe rules on multi club ownershipThe future of the women's gamePlayer release for national team competitionsThe commercial management of competitions and revenue distribution among clubs.Last year, Uefa and the ECA signed a further letter of intent ahead of the creation of a new joint venture to oversee the commercial management of Uefa club competitions.Uefa Club Competitions SA (UCCSA) oversaw a global agency tender process that led to the Team Marketing agency retaining the mandate to sell broadcast, sponsorship and licensing rights to Uefa club competitions from 2024-25 to 2026-27. The mandate excluded US broadcast rights, which are being sold by the Relevent Sports Group agency over the same period in a deal worth a minimum guarantee of $250m (€260m) per year.UCCSA is now considering whether to take the commercial rights sales in house from 2027-28 onwards, a process overseen by ECA chair Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is also chairman of Qatar Sports Investments (QSi) sovereign wealth fund , chair of BeIN Sports, the Qatar based broadcaster, and President of French club PSG.This is an episode of Re:Thinking Sport, our series created in collaboration with Portas, the global strategy consultancy dedicated to sport and physical activity.  Jon Culligan, a partner at Portas, is my co-host for this episode.  Unofficial Partner is the leading podcast for the business of sport.

It's the international break, but we're still fuming over Paris Saint-Germain's pitiful performance against Stade Rennais. Luckily, there are always transfer rumors to soothe the soul.On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan of PSG Fan Club Boise to break down PSG's 2-0 defeat to Rennes at the Parc des Princes, debate whether Kylian Mbappé could become the captain of PSG, and which players could be coming to the French capital this summer.Up first, it's that loss to Rennes. PSG played well with a makeshift squad but couldn't beat Steve Mandanda in goal. Two players with ties to Paris scored for Rennes, and we wonder aloud whether PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, will stop buying superstars and focus on the talent on his front doorstep. We also look ahead to a daunting Ligue 1 schedule for PSG, where they could drop substantial points and give rivals Olympique de Marseille hope of winning the title. We change gears slightly and talk about the managerial situation at Bayern Munich. How could they soundly beat PSG in the Champions League with so much turmoil behind the scenes? We zoom out a little farther and look at Europe's top leagues. With Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and Napoli leading their respective leads, is a revolution underfoot in which clubs build through their academies and make smart signings instead of chasing the biggest names and throwing the most money around?During the second half of the show, we discuss Mbappé being named captain of the France national team and what it would mean for Marquinhos if he's removed as captain in favor of the Frenchman. We also discuss Xavi Simons potential return to Paris and whether brothers Khéphren Thuram and Marcus Thuram could be on the move to PSG as well.As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. What other team-focused football podcast can the hosts talk about a player being indicted, a club president under investigation for kidnapping, and a controversial late-night McDonald's run? You get all that and more on the latest PSG Talking podcast. On this drama-filled episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Ethan of PSG Talk Fan Club Boise to discuss PSG's recent results and look ahead to the return leg against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.Up first, we catch up with Ethan who was at the Parc des Princes for PSG's 1-0 loss to Bayern and Lionel Messi's thrilling stoppage-time winner against Lille OSC. We get a glimpse into what the atmosphere was like for both matches and drill down into what went wrong for PSG against Bayern.PSG's most recent match was a convincing 3-0 win over rivals Olympique de Marseille at the Orange Vélodrome. It was a masterful performance from Kylian Mbappé and Messi, but is it a performance supporters can expect moving forward now that we've seen Marseille fall on hard times as of late? Should Christophe Galtier play the same lineup from this match against Bayern, or should he change things up?Two players who won't be making an appearance in Germany are Neymar Jr. and Presnel Kimpembe. The Brazilian is once again injured for the business end of PSG's season and Kimpembe's achilles tendon injury, suffered in the Marseille match, will keep him out for nearly the remainder of his contract (June 2024). We debate whether or not PSG should keep these players or look to sell this summer.Off the pitch, PSG is dealing with legal issues concerning right-back Achraf Hakimi and president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Hakimi has been accused of rape, while Al-Khelaifi has been the subject of a "kidnapping and torture" investigation in France. While we don't get into the details of each situation, we do question whether the drama is worth it and if the club would be better off under new ownership. The show concludes with our predictions for PSG's trip to the Allianz Arena, whether Messi will resign with PSG, and what impact Qatar's potential investment in Manchester United could have on PSG.As always, thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe and rate the show wherever you download your podcasts. Daily News Brief by TRT World

This is TRT World's Daily News Brief for Thursday, March 2nd. *) UN scrambles to reunite families after Turkey-Syria quake Reuniting children with their missing families has become the UN's top priority in the aftermath of last month's massive earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria. UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said that the first challenge is figuring out if the children's parents are alive. The Turkish minister for family affairs said more than 1,800 “unaccompanied children” have been reunited with their families since the quake. Efforts are under way to identify 83 other children and reunite them with family members. *) Israelis stage 'national disruption day' Weeks of anti-government protests in Israel have turned violent after Israeli police fired stun grenades and water cannons at demonstrators who blocked a Tel Aviv highway. Thousands of protesters across the country staged a "national disruption day," the latest in a string of mass protests against the Netanyahu-led government's judicial reforms. Protesters shouted "Where were you in Hawara?" at policemen, referring to Sunday's rampage by Jewish settlers through Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank. *) 'Global governance has failed': Indian PM Modi at G20 meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that multilateral institutions had failed to meet the world's most pressing challenges while opening the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi. Russia's offensive in Ukraine is set to dominate the meeting of the world's top diplomats. Modi pointed to financial crises, climate change, pandemic, terrorism and wars over the last few years as proof of the failure of global governance. *) Greece seeks answers over deadliest train tragedy A station master on duty during Greece's deadliest train accident is to testify in the central city of Larissa over the disaster that claimed 38 lives. The 59-year-old will appear before a prosecutor to explain how a passenger train with over 350 people on board was allowed to run on the same line as a freight train for several kilometres. The two trains collided near a tunnel outside Larissa before midnight on Tuesday. Two carriages were crushed and a third caught fire, trapping people inside. And finally… *) Fundraising campaign for quake-hit Türkiye collects nearly $45M in donations A fundraising campaign for the victims of last month's devastating earthquakes in Türkiye has received $44.8 million from benefactors on the first day of the event. Famous sports figures such as Kylian Mbappe, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Ruud Gullit, Mikel Arteta and Arsene Wenger supported the 'shoulder-to-shoulder' fundraising campaign, which is set to run until June 15. European Club Association (ECA) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi also donated over $2 million to Türkiye quake victims.
