Veittar voru tvær viðurkenningar úr Rithöfundasjóði og tilkynnt um styrki úr Tónskáldasjóði Ríkisútvarpsins og STEFs á árinu. Mugison fékk Krókinn, verðlaun fyrir framúrskarandi lifandi flutning, og tilkynnt var um valið á orði ársins 2024, sem er hraunkælingarstjóri, eins og komið hefur fram í fréttum. Birnir Jón Sigurðsson hlaut hvatningarverðlaun Rithöfundasjóðs Ríkisútvarpsins, en þetta árið er það Áslaug Jónsdóttir sem er handhafi viðurkenningar Rithöfundasjóðs RÚV. Ásdís segir sjálf að hún sé bókverkakona, en frá 1990 hefur hún ritað og myndlýst fjölda barnabóka, skrifað ljóð og leikrit, auk þess að taka þátt í myndlistar- og bókverkasýningum. Hennar nýjustu sköpunarverk eru ljóðabókin Til minnis og limrubókin Allt annar handleggur, sem komu út árið 2023 og Skrímslaveisla sem kom út í fyrra, en Ásdís er sennilega þekktust fyrir bækurnar um skrímslin sem eru orðnar 11 talsins. Sambærilegir viðburðir fara fram í öllum helstu borgum Evrópu í upphafi árs og tónleikum Vínarfílharmóníunnar er sjónvarpað um heim allan á nýársdag. Vinsældir vínartónleika eru gífurlegar og áheyrendur flykkjast í tónleikasalina til fagna hefðinni og nýju ári í lakkskóm og pallíettukjólum. Margir gætu haldið að rætur slíkra hátíðahalda lægju í menningarblóma 19. aldar. En sagan er talsvert styttri en svo og á sér raunar nokkuð dökkar hliðar. A year on from the invasion of Ukraine, Luke Jones hears from some of the Ukrainian performers living and working in exile. He joins Hooligan Art Community, a performance group that started in the bomb shelters of Kyiv, as they rehearse for their new show, Bunker Cabaret. There are two blistering performances on the London stage today: Janet McTeer in Phaedra at the National Theatre and Sophie Okonedo as Medea at Soho Place.
