In an out-of-nowhere situation, Hi-Fi Rush Survives being shut down along with the studio that made the award-winning game, Tango Gameworks, as the publisher of PUBG and Callisto Protocol, Krafton Inc., has purchased the IP and studio from Microsoft. Essentially, it saves the studio and invites its former employees to return as well. In our latest episode, what has been a rather sour week of gaming with major layoffs in two different gaming industry sectors, amid more disappointing figures for Xbox on the Console side, games not selling well enough and yeah... just less than wonderful news in general. And while they did not announce which ones they are, reports are already out there that namedrop Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and Pentiment as the four coming over. There's also new console hardware being worked on and even announcements coming in the fall regarding a possible mid-gen thing. Should this be enough to calm the fears? Or is this just the start of a whole new strategy for Xbox? On the other side, a recent earnings report from Sony had their president, CFO, and COO Hiroki Totoki state that no major franchise exclusives are coming in 2024, that they need to be more mindful of business when it comes to developing games, and even mentions being more aggressive about PC. Could Sony also be looking at modifying their strategy a bit? Unfortunately, layoffs and bad news also continue with Embracer Group once again leading the way in both categories and now in making terrible statements concerning these layoffs as well. One of the biggest release weeks of the entire year is upon us, as Nintendo's main man, Mario, releases his first 2D title in more than a decade with Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It is that time again to decide what games make up Our 25 Best Games. For the 2021 edition Sean and Marc are joined by Randy Isbelle to debate, order, and finally, decide on the ultimate choices. Each person also gives out their personal Top 10 Games of 2021 and takes a look back at the year that was during this special episode as well. In a year that was rife with great Indie titles will this be the year that a game like Death's Door, It Takes Two, or Kena: Bridge of Spirits takes the crown? Will it be a PlayStation exclusive like Returnal or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart? Or perhaps something from an Xbox studio such as Psychonauts 2, Deathloop, Halo Infinite, or Forza Horizon 5?
