Congresswoman Maxime Waters went viral during the summer of 2017 with this unforgettable procedural interruption phase, “Reclaiming my time. I'm reclaiming my time!" When the then Treasury Secretary,  attempted to pull her off her focus,  saturate her with compliments and avoid answering the hard questions. She needed to reset the conversation. This experience reflects what we need to practice when it comes to ending the cycle of busyness – engaging in a plethora of activities but making limited, little, or no progress. In this episode, Dr. Stephen V. shows us how we can reset our environment so we can accomplish what matters most, leverage the best of who we are and what we have to offer by reclaiming our time, not just with words but the practices/systems we put in place to protect it.Connect with Dr. Stephen V.  (Stephen V. SUMMARY:Our guest on this episode is John Hall, founder of the band Orleans and co-writer of the group's enduring hits "Dance with Me" and "Still the One." He chats with us about how Janis Joplin launched his songwriting career, co-writing Steve Wariner's #1 country hit "You Can Dream of Me," and how he ended up serving two terms as a US Congressman before returning to music.PART ONE:Paul and Scott chat about Orleans' legendary "naked" album cover, and band/artist names you're afraid to say out loud. If you've ever stressed about how to say Husker Du, Bon Iver, Chvrches, or Bjork, we've got you!  PART TWO:Our in-depth interview with John HallABOUT JOHN HALL:John Hall is a musician, songwriter, community activist, founder of the band Orleans, and former US Congressman. After forming the group Kangaroo, which shared house band duties with Bruce Springsteen's group The Castilles at Greenwich Village's legendary Café Wha, Hall worked extensively as a sideman. He toured and/or recorded as a guitarist with Seals & Crofts, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Carly Simon, Jackson Brown, and others, but established himself as a songwriter when he and then-wife Johanna penned “Half Moon” on Janis Joplin's Pearl album. After John formed the group Orleans, he and Johanna continued to find success as songwriters with the band's hit singles “Dance with Me” and “Still the One.” The following decade, John became a chart-topping country writer when he co-wrote Steve Wariner's #1 single “You Can Dream of Me.” He's known for co-founding the organization Musicians United for Safe Energy with Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, and Graham Nash. John helped organize the legendary 1979 No Nukes concerts at Madison Square Garden, and his song “Power” became the anthem for the event. In 2006, John was elected to the US House of Representatives, representing New York's 19th District. After serving two terms, he returned to making music. John's songs have been covered by Millie Jackson, Chaka Kahn, Ricky Skaggs, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Levon Helm, Bobby McFerrin, Bonnie Raitt, Chet Atkins, New Grass Revival, Jose Feliciano, Bill Anderson, The Oak Ridge Boys, Patty Loveless, and more. His most recent solo album is called Reclaiming My Time. We spoke with him in June of 2021 when the album was brand new and when he was working on some Orleans projects that have since become available and can be found at johnhallmusic.com.

Here's the first episode of Reclaiming My Time in 2022. This week, we talk about Snomicron and Sen. Tim Kaine's really long trip to the Capitol from Richmond, which Nathan believes was a false flag. The New York Times acknowledges that the kids aren't all right thanks to the challenges of the most recent COVID-19 variant and related school shutdowns. Nathan has a wild thought about where members of Congress should be interviewed, thanks to a recent podcast he listened to with former NFL star Chris Long. Aaron Rodgers is apparently an Ayn Rand fan, in case you haven't heard. Jason is hoping for the best as his Georgia Bulldogs get ready to play for the National Championship. Nathan is in the holiday spirit and really embracing Christmas. Jason…well, Jason isn't really in the same mood. But that's okay because we have another episode of Reclaiming My Time for your listening pleasure or something. In this episode, Leamer talks about his trip to New York City for a Christmas party while Jason went axe throwing for the first time for a Christmas party. We discuss what we're watching in Congress during the final days of 2021. We celebrate the repeal of “net neutrality” on the fourth anniversary of the Restoring Internet Freedom Order. We talk about their end-of-year music reviews from Spotify, and our tastes could not be more different. Nathan is a big Taylor Swift fan, apparently. Jason talks about Atlanta's infamous “Murder Kroger.” We talk a little about the omicron variant. We end on the new Beatles documentary, during which Jason reveals his sincere respect for the band. There are 3 things that happen to me every single time I know I'm ready to grow. Without fail. Like clockwork. First, I am suddenly crystal clear on what I no longer what to be doing. #Reclaimingmytime. I could write a dissertation about why I am ‘done done, for real.' Second, I feel a growing hopefulness for what is possible for the future and I can start to articulate what I DO want. And then there's the third thing – the sticker. The one that trips me, and many of us, up every time: I start trying to make the growth comfortable.  In this week's episode, I break down how it's possible that we can be so clear on wanting to change, feel like we are ‘trying', and yet ultimately get stuck staying still. There are tried and true ways we all attempt to make growth comfortable when it simply isn't. Take a listen this week to some common patterns, and how to find your out of them. It's nearly the end of the year, and we're not going out like that! Do you have a question for the podcast? We're back! You've been warned. In this episode of Reclaiming My Time, Jason talks about his Atlanta Braves winning the World Series and his visit to Athens, Georgia over the weekend to watch the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Missouri Tigers. Nathan celebrates Glenn Youngkin's win in Virginia and throws some deserved shade at the Republicans who voted for the bipartisan infrastructure framework (BIF) while Jason explains why Republicans calling for a pound of flesh from those who voted for it is a stupid, short-sighted idea. Nathan talks about his new Oculus, virtual reality, and ping pong. Her ideas for moving the city forward are inclusive and innovative. If you have ever considered running for political office or constantly finding yourself complaining about those who are, this is a must listen.
