Can you imagine living without peanut butter, sugary treats (e.g. candy or cake), breadcrumbs, or condensed milk? The fact is that these daily CPG staples and many more would likely not exist today if it wasn't for the innovative minds of Black Americans throughout history. While this is not intended to be a definitive list of historically prominent Black Americans in the CPG industry, it hopefully will serve as a starting point on your own educational journey. One that I can actually help a bit further with, as I made another piece of content in February 2021 (https://youtu.be/_Ud2_I-68c0) that shared more stories of Black Americans who shaped the CPG industry. I hope you enjoy these CPG industry historical stories that I find interesting. I'm highly motivated to do this for a mainly two reasons. Firstly, I'm a big believer that the more you study history, the more you can anticipate the future. This is especially helpful to a forward-leaning strategist that has an eye for pattern recognition. Secondly, every year I grow older (and hopefully a bit wiser), I've found it more important to study the American history that they don't teach in schools. History is an academic subject. But the "history of history" and how subjective observations became objective truth is rooted deep in marketing strategy. It's vital to remember that before the greatest marketers in the world sold consumer packaged goods, they sold stories that became truth over time. In this content, you'll stories about: George Washington Carver, Norbert Rillieux, Lisa Price, Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner, Joseph Lee, and Reginald F. Lewis. Having completed well over 100,000 treatments since 1991, he single-handedly developed many of the toxin protocols and facial muscle treatments; in an era when almost no-one was even using toxins. Michael's experience is so well respected that he has consulted in the trials and launches of every single brand of botulinum toxin. In our mini series 'The Tox Talks', we feature expert injectors who have significant experience in using a particular brand of a botulinum toxin as well as teaching it's use to other injectors. In this episode, we explore Michael's life time journey with the products and his experience as the world's undisputed ‘King Of Tox'. We explore: - Michael's story of how and why he first started using Botox as a plastic surgery fellow - The story of botulinum toxin going back to it's very first use in humans & the grandfather of toxins, Dr Allan Scott - How Michael & the Carruthers team both independantly studied Botox for cosmetic purposes in the early 1990's - The effect of toxins on the skin and how this is perceived differently in the West vs in Asia - The issue with clinical trials and how these limit the training of injectors to use toxins - How this has created a mindset problem for injectors & has limited the treatment possibilities for our patients - How Michael approaches his toxin consultations - Charging per area vs per unit - How to differentiate yourself as a toxin injector - What toxins Michael has in his clinic - The question of whether injectors should swap patients to different or new brands of toxin - Why the market needs more toxins - Michael's take on toxin resistance and how to limit it Dr Jake & David thank their amazing IA Patrons who have helped support and contribute to the day to day running of the podcast: IA Supporter tier: Esther Hermann, Sue Arber, Claire Waterworth, Cat Sullivan, Gavin Scriven, Steven Land, Estelle Kelly, Georgia Rappel, Camilla Phillips, Raquel Campos, Lesley Scott, Lorraine Mingoia, Brooke Taunton, Olivia Qian, Tanya Rose, Kylie Duncan, Lee Charlton, Anita East, Patricia Barrera IA Bronze tier: Ish Goonewardene, Steph Burrows, Zainab Al-Mukhtar, Monica Bahamon, Jacinta King, Hazel Salvedore, Skye Carter, Cathriona Sullivan, Jessica Halliday, Jane Conchie, Natalie Smith, Maria Reid, Mischell Christmas, Penny Commerford, Julia Foster, Douglas Rutledge, Niki Talic, Alexandra Bebb, Su-en Chow, Sunny Dhesi IA Silver tier: Julie Ann Rogers, Tanya Khan, Martina Lavery, Matt Manton, Alexandra Davies, Vanessa Anlezark, Lisa Price, Jayde Petersen, Mel Heuvel, Jo Canny, Sally McGuire, Sarah Graham, Simone Doreian, Nilly Tahiri, Nadia Zanco, Lori Hogan, Ania Janik, Tom Posenby, Megan Ucich, Melanie Russell-Richards, Brittany Collins, Odharnaith Butler, Rischell Poswell, Julia Ogilvie IA Gold tier: Lori Robertson, Marrisa Dennis, Natasha Keeping, Karim Sayed, Sarah Mowby, Mary Attard, Agnes Dube, Paul Smith, Ester Hermann, Kristina Ngyuen, Ashia Ahmed, Emma Beider, Diane Ayling, Bonnie, Leah Rosewarne, Vicki Gallagher, Martina Lavery, Charlotte Wolfenden, Iman Nurlin Become an IA Patron too & get the following benefits: - Be acknowledged as an IA Patron in our podcast descriptions - Join our IA Patron whatsapp group where we discuss tips, tricks, cases, business support topics and more - Watch our IA webinars - Access our new 'IA Business of Injecting Live' Zooms sessions - led by David - Access our new 'IA: Injectables Live' Zoom sessions - led by Jake (coming in early 2023) Subscribe to IA: Subscribe to IA on Apple Podcasts Subscribe to IA on Spotify Other IA links: Follow IA on Instagram Sign up as an IA Patron Visit the IA website Contact IA Apply to be a guest on IA Dr Jake Sloane: Follow Dr Jake on Instagram Book a treatment with Dr Jake Dr Jake's website David Segal: Follow David on Instagram Our podcast guest: Follow Michael on Instagram

Episode 188 hosts Dr Jake Sloane & David Segal, your hosts of Inside Aesthetics. In this episode Dr Jake & David explore 'The Future Of Aesthetics', a report commisioned by Allergan Aesthetics in 2021. The evolution of our industry continues to accelerate, with new products continuing to be released and injectables becoming more mainstream year on year. But what may surprise injectors and consumers alike is that our market is still very under-penetrated. The report was compiled by interviewing 15 global KOL's and working with Wunderman Thompson Intelligence, a market research company who specialise in future trends. The goal of the report aimed to uncover cultural shifts in aesthetics. Like the beauty and fashion industries, societal views change and have a direct impact on how aesthetics is perceived, accepted and consumed. By understanding and anticipating how the world's behavior is evolving, clinics and injectors will be able to better meet the needs of their patients today and into the future. We explore all ten chapters of the report including: 1) Diverse Individuality: How & why aesthetics must become more inclusive for patients of all ethnicities 2) The New Masculine: the evolution of male attitiudes to aesthetics 3) Gender Inclusive Beauty: How aesthetics can cater for those identify anywhere on the gender spectrum 4) Ephemeral Expression: The new concept of transient & short-term beauty outcomes 5) Elevated Experiences: How clinics might approach & elevate the customers experience 6) New Body Frontiers: Discussing body treatments & how to incorporate these into aesthetic clinics 7) Aesth-Ethics: The responsibility that injectors have for the messages that they promote to the public & the issue of counterfeit goods 8) The Digital Lens: Whether life lived through phones and laptops is warping our reality 9) Aesthetics & the Metaverse: The concept of patients and clinics interating in the new virtual reality 10) The End of Aging: Are we only at the tip of the iceberg in terms of using injectables for our patients? We're revisiting another conversation this week on Professional Troublemaker! Luvvie is talking to Latham Thomas - wellness maven to the stars, birth doula, and queen regent of radical self-care.Latham is an incredible storyteller and she lets us in on how the birth of her son catapulted her into her purpose. We learn about birthing as a chemical, transformative experience and how her ancestors showed up on her behalf to guide her through the process. This episode shines a light on the Black maternal health crisis and how racial bias, education, and economic stability all play a role in the staggering statistic of black women dying or experiencing health complications during childbirth. Latham has committed to being a mother to mothers and holding the hands of women - literally and figuratively - as a doula during and after pregnancy. Her view that the birthing process shouldn't be as scary and difficult as it is for women and birthing people in this country is what fuels her work spotlighting this global crisis. She has joined forces with Lisa Price, founder of Carol's Daughter, to model advocacy for Black Maternal Health through an initiative called Love Delivered. You can learn more about their work and how to stand alongside them by visiting mamaglowfoundation.org and carolsdaughter.com/lovedeliveredDon't forget to follow Latham's personal Instagram and Twitter at @GlowMaven as well.***Follow @Luvvie everywhere – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter. Encouraged by family members and friends, she began Carol's Daughter from her home in 1993. Her customers soon multiplied. In this episode, I speak with mom, wife, and founder of Grieve Breathe Believe Lisa Price on Finding Hope After Loss. Lisa tells her story of child loss as she shares the life and death of her daughter Ari. Her mission is to encourage grieving parents after the death of a child, and she conveys a message of hope after such a great loss. Find Lisa on her website, Facebook, and Instagram
It was an honor to interview Lisa Price during this episode and hear about how in her grief journey, after the death of her daughter Ari, she had the choice to be Bitter or Better. She chose Better, and is now helping countless other parents with their grief journey. Lisa Price is grief wellness coach, the founder of Grieve. Breathe. Believe., and creator of the 4:13 Method - a self-guided online course emphasizing best practices and the importance of holistic, daily dedicated self-care; physical fitness, nutrition, journaling, meditation, mindfulness, and more. She facilitates a safe, yet productive community for grieving parents to rediscover and reconstruct a life of meaning and purpose after the death of their child. She is married to Brandon and the mother of two; her 8-year-old son, Chase, and daughter, Ari, who died in April 2017. After her daughter's death, Lisa soon realized there were not nearly enough resources and supports for a loss requiring extra special care and attention. Working with experts in the field of grief and bereavement, prioritizing her own healing and 'grief work', she felt called to fill the gap. It then became her mission to provide a platform with continuous, consistent, and constructive support to help bereaved parents walking a very similar journey. Along with the self-guided course, she offers group and 1:1 coaching. She hosts live workshops and events, virtual conferences, and has written resource guides for both bereaved parents and those supporting them in grief, sharing tips, tools, and tangible action steps for their lifelong journey. She is QPR certified and is currently writing a children's grief book. Lisa firmly believes that by honoring your life, you honor your child. Tune in for the story of how Lisa used job loss as a springboard to start artgoodies, the art business she operates out of her basement studio in Grand Rapids. Her business is the perfect blend of art and craft with a side of vintage flair. Her block printed tea towels are wildly popular and especially appealing for those who want to adorn their homes with functional art.
