Witness Wednesday #150 911 MiracleToday's witnesses are actually two things I read on line and really wanted to share them with you. The first one is about how good God is, even in a tragedy. It is a story about what happened to one family on the terrible day of September 11, 2001. The second one is about a little boy who had extraordinary courage to speak up against someone a lot older than he was in order to defend someone he didn't even know. They are both amazing stories of how God is working in our world.A man from Norfolk , VA called a local radio station to share this on Sept 11th, 2003, TWO YEARS AFTER THE TRAGEDIES OF 9/11/2001.His name was Robert Matthews. These are his words:A few weeks before Sept. 11th, my wife and I found out we were going to have our first child. She planned a trip out to California to visit her sister. On our way to the airport, we prayed that God would grant my wife a safe trip and be with her. Shortly after I said 'amen,' we both heard a loud pop and the car shook violently. We had blown out a tire. I replaced the tire as quickly as I could, but we still missed her flight. Both very upset we drove home.I received a call from my father who was retired NYFD. He asked what my wife's flight number was, but I explained that we missed the flight. My father informed me that her flight was the one that crashed into the southern tower. I was too shocked to speak. My father also had more news for me; he was going to help. 'This is not something I can't just sit by for; I have to do something.'I was concerned for his safety, of course, but more because he had never given his life to Christ. After a brief debate, I knew his mind was made up. Before he got off of the phone, he said, 'take good care of my grandchild.' Those were the last words I ever heard my father say; he died while helping in the rescue effort. My joy that my prayer of safety for my wife had been answered quickly became anger. I was angry at God, at my father, and at myself. I had gone for nearly two years blaming God for taking my father away. My son would never know his grandfather, my father had never accepted Christ, and I never got to say good-bye.Then something happened. About two months ago, I was sitting at home with my wife and my son, when there was a knock on the door. I looked at my wife, but I could tell she wasn't expecting anyone. I opened the door to a couple with a small child. The man looked at me and asked if my father's name was Jake Matthews. I told him it was. He quickly grabbed my hand and said, 'I never got the chance to meet your father, but it is an honor to meet his son.'He explained to me that his wife had worked in the WorldTrade Center and had been caught inside after the attack. She was pregnant and had been caught under debris. He then explained that my father had been the one to find his wife and free her. My eyes welled up with tears as I thought of my father giving his life for people like this. He then said, 'there is something else you need to know.'His wife then told me that as my father worked to free her, she talked to him and led him to Christ. I began sobbing at the news. Now I know that when I get to Heaven, my father will be standing beside Jesus to welcome me, and that this family would be able to thank him themselves ..When their baby boy was born, they named him Jacob Matthew, in honor of the man who gave his life so that a mother and baby could live. Please take time to share this amazing story. You may never know the impact it may have on someone. God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.“I was on my usual running path when I heard an older man yelling loudly enough for me to hear through my headphones. "Sexy lady, hey hey hey sexy lady!" He kept screaming it and I decided to just ignore him and keep running. This ignoring seemed to piss him off so he lashed out and said "eff you, dumb B****!" Now let's keep in mind he was well-dressed and appeared to be on his lunch break from an office job. That was my trigger point. The B word. I ripped off my headphones prepared to stand up for myself when this little boy who was walking alongside his mother and little sister in a stroller looked at the guy and said, "Hey. That is not nice to say to her and she didn't like you yelling at her. You shouldn't do that because she is a nice girl and I don't let anyone say mean things to people. She's a girl like my sister and I will protect her."The man was immediately embarrassed and started gathering his lunch to leave. I asked the mother if I could hug the little boy (his name is James) and I told him how grateful I was for him. He just shrugged and said "Well I just wanted to make sure your heart was okay."According to his mother, this is a typical day in the life of James. Thank you so much to the mothers and fathers who are raising the next generation to be brave and courageous, and to be little earth angels for all. I am so touched.” Weren't those two stories amazing! The first one is a good one to remember when you are delayed for some reason and you feel like being angry. Maybe God orchestrated that delay for some reason or another. The second one reminds us that there are still good people in this world. If that little boy could stand up to a grown up for someone he didn't even know, maybe we could have the courage to stand up for someone too. If we see someone being treated badly, we should stand up for them. God wants us to help those who can't help themselves. It is our duty as Christians. We don't want to be knocking at the door of heaven one day and hear God say, “I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness” Matthew 7:23.  www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

Commercial Real Estate Investing From A-Z

Today I share latest things I have learned, some updates on the ponzi schemes that are rising and what is new in real estate investing. Read this entire episode here: https://tinyurl.com/26msmatp 1. There's a clause that banks are putting in some of their lending documents that is called cognovit clause – google explains that a cognovit is a type of confession of judgment, it refers to an acknowledgment or confession made by a defendant that the plaintiff's cause is legitimate. It permits judgment to be entered without a trial for the purpose of saving costs. 2. Warren Buffet famously said “Only when the tide goes out do you learn who has been swimming naked”. The tide is out right now and we are starting to spot the naked swimmers. There are more ponzi schemes coming to the surface, it feels like it's almost one a week. Here are the most recent ones: Real estate developer Robert Matthews has been sentenced to over five years in prison for multimillion-dollar frauds spanning multiple states, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Florida. The 65-year-old faced charges related to real estate scams that caused losses of over $30M to banks and investors Real estate investor Sean Tissue was sentenced to six-and-half years in prison for fraud involving a $3M investment and bankruptcy.– As per court documents, Sean Tissue, also known as Sean Ryan, was the mastermind behind a substantial real estate investment fraud scheme between 2015 and 2021. A carbon capture ponzi scheme promising returns of ~ 40% yearly is being investigated by the SEC. They raised anywhere between 150-250M. This person was being a lead speaker at some real estate groups and he was the “carbon capture” go to person. In the news:Clutter, a storage and moving startup once valued at ~$600M in 2019, is being forced to sell at a steep discount in an auction of its assets. The premise for Clutter was that they would come pick up your items, they'd take pictures, and they would move it all for you into a warehouse far from your main city to avoid high real estate costs, and store it for you WeWork casted substantial doubt over its ability to continue operating amid liquidity and profitability challenges. WeWork told investors that the next year would be a make or break for the company. Sam Zell said in the early days of WeWork that he has never seen a model like this work (where they commit to a long term lease, but their customers are on month to month contracts). Office leasing in Manhattan increased by 20% MoM in July to reach 2.3 million sq. ft. Manhattan's retail market is showing signs of improvement, with a growing number of tenants signing new deals. Asking rents in Miami grew 12% YoY to reach $65.03. Availability of Class A properties in Miami declined 20.6% YoY. The Mortgage Bankers Association predicted that commercial and multifamily mortgage lending would decline by 38% YoY. What do I see here? So many opportunities! There are 40% less transactions being made this year, less competition, better deals, time to buy! I recently started using this excellent tool, tango.us, for creating SOP's (standard operating procedures). As your company scales, it's extremely important to create SOP's from the get go, so that anyone can come in at anytime and pick up any job. This is how a fantastic company is run. What's happening to office?I'm hearing more and more companies are requiring 3 days in the office, some are requiring 5 days in the office such as Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin, calling themselves a work from work company. Elon Musk is also known for demanding employees being in the office 5 days a week. Facebook and Google right now are demanding 3 days a week in the office and Google announced that it will consider attendance as part of performance reviews. For years now, the utility of the P-value in scientific and statistical research has been under scrutiny – the debate shaped by concerns about the seeming over-reliance on p-values to decide what's worth publishing or what's worth pursuing. In 2016 the American Statistical Association released a statement on P-values, meant to remind readers that, “The P-values was never intended to be a substitute for scientific reasoning.” The statement also laid out six principles for how to approach P-values thoughtfully. The impact of that statement is the focus of this episode of Stats and Stories with guest Robert Matthews. Robert Matthews is a visiting professor in the Department of Mathematics, Aston University in Birmingham, UK. Since the late 1990s, as a science writer, he has been reporting on the role of NHST in undermining the reliability of research for several publications including BBC Focus, and working as a consultant on both scientific and media issues for clients in the UK and abroad. His latest book, Chancing It: The Laws of Chance and How They Can Work for You is available now. His research interests include the development of Bayesian methods to assess the credibility of new research findings – especially “out of the blue” claims; A 20-year study of why research findings fade over time and its connection to what's now called “The Replication Crisis”; Investigations of the maths and science behind coincidences and “urban myths” like Murphy's Law: “If something can go wrong, it will”; Applications of Decision Theory to cast light on the reliability (or otherwise) of earthquake predictions and weather forecasts; The first-ever derivation and experimental verification of a prediction from string theory. Relentless Health Value

As one of our guests, Dr. Tony DiGioia (EP332), has said, healthcare has been pushed to its limits this past year; but that doesn't mean that nothing good has come of it. Celebrating our bright spots and using our experiences to inform future innovations is really the key to more accessible, equitable, and higher quality of care. While the timing of the celebration could, in general, be better given the latest pandemic news, as they say, there's no time like the present. So, let's do this thing. Also, it's just definitely good from a mental health perspective to find bright spots and to be grateful for them. So, let me kick this off with all of the gratitude I can hold in my two hands for anybody listening who is on the so-called front line of healthcare. My appreciation cannot be expressed more fiercely. I wish, in fact, that there was more that I/we could do to address the systemic issues that plague our healthcare industry and really impact you directly. Speaking of doctors as one of these frontline healthcare groups, in the Doximity Physician Compensation Report that was released for this past year, here's four stats to know:   Twenty-two percent of physicians are considering early retirement because of overwork. Sixteen percent of physicians are looking for another employer because of overwork. Twelve percent of physicians are looking for another career because of overwork. Twenty-seven percent of physicians said they're not overworked, so I guess there's that—that's a bright spot. So, all you docs, nurses, PAs, social workers, therapists of all kinds, any other healthcare workers: Thank you for all that you do even in the face of these adversities and a bunch of seemingly shortsighted policy and/or administrative decisions. Take care of yourself first and foremost. We need you; we appreciate you. Thank you. I'd also like to thank everybody who listened to Relentless Health Value this past year. Thank you for being part of an inspired and inspirational community of individuals who are trying hard to do the right thing and learn and connect with others on a similar journey—even in the face of all the perverse incentives and calcified status quo processes, the whole host of factors that add up to formidable barriers to positive change. All of us—and I'm thinking that includes you—we continue to press forward. This is important because the more of us there are, the more of us who link hands and do some combination of educate, cajole, scold, guilt into, demand, lead, vote, wear down … the more of us who consider ourselves part of the change, the more effective we can be. So, recruit your fellow thinkers and let's continue to make inroads. I want to give a special thank you to the many of you who have reached out to me over this past year. You have encouraged, coached, and debated with me. You have added details and case studies. You've provided context. You have offered up topics to explore and introduced me and our team over here to some great guests. You have changed my mind. You have made me realize that there's some maybe underlying reason for something that is, in fact, valid or a consequence that maybe hasn't been thought through well enough by me and/or others. I couldn't be more thankful or appreciative to every single one of you. For more information, go to aventriahealth.com.   Each week on Relentless Health Value, Stacey uses her voice and thought leadership to provide insights for healthcare industry decision makers trying to do the right thing.

Top scientists across the world are putting their best foot forward to produce a vaccine for Covid-19 as soon as possible. There are more than 90 vaccines for the virus at different stages of development. At least six of these are already being tested for safety in people. What remains to be seen is which of these vaccines will be ready first and which one will be the most effective. We talk to a senior lecturer in virology at the University of Kent, Dr Jeremy Rossman, and a visiting professor of science at Aston University in Birmingham, Robert Matthews about the search for an effective vaccine. Called the "Super Great White Shark" by Chinese media, the aircraft conjures up images of 1950s sci-fi movies more than 21st century technology. But China says the "armed helicopter" was designed for the "future digital information battlefield." State-tabloid the Global Times published an image gallery of the aircraft, calling it a fusion of modern, proven helicopter designs -- such as the American AH-64 Apache and CH-53 Sea Stallion as well as the Russian Ka-52 and Mi-26 copters. It also has the blended-wing design employed by stealth aircraft, including the US B-2 bomber. The Super Great White Shark is 7.6 meters (25 feet) long, almost three meters (10 feet) high and has room on board for two crew. Schematic drawings show its outer shell covers rotors and engines, which would presumably give the helicopter stealth capability because any sharp angles would be covered, making it harder for radar to detect. How Can a Star Be Older Than the Universe? Link: https://www.space.com/how-can-a-star-be-older-than-the-universe.html?fbclid=IwAR2iVlw5cLWZpIj0jQyiiAnhVvv6xONL2hzXOHBPlbfkcsyjNc6yF_Rld2Q Space Mysteries: If the universe is 13.8 billion years old, how can a star be more than 14 billion years old? Bond and his colleagues set themselves to the task of figuring out whether or not that initial figure of 16 billion was accurate. They pored over 11 sets of observations that had been recorded between 2003 and 2011 by the Fine Guidance Sensors of the Hubble Space Telescope, which make a note of the positions, distances and energy output of stars. In acquiring parallax, spectroscopy and photometry measurements, a better sense of age could be determined. "One of the uncertainties with the age of HD 140283 was the precise distance of the star," Bond told All About Space. "It was important to get this right because we can better determine its luminosity, and from that its age — the brighter the intrinsic luminosity, the younger the star. We were looking for the parallax effect, which meant we were viewing the star six months apart to look for the shift in its position due to the orbital motion of the Earth, which tells us the distance." Test the parallax effect Another way to see how this effect works is to hold your hand out in front of you and look at it with your left eye closed, then your right eye closed. Your hand will appear to move against the background. "Another factor that was important was, of all things, the amount of oxygen in the star," Bond said. HD 140283 had a higher than predicted oxygen-to-iron ratio and, since oxygen was not abundant in the universe for a few million years, it pointed again to a lower age for the star. "Like all measured estimates, it is subject to both random and systematic error," said physicist Robert Matthews of Aston University in Birmingham, UK, who was not involved in the study. "The overlap in the error bars gives some indication of the probability of a clash with cosmological age determinations," Matthews said. "In other words, the best supported age of the star is in conflict with that for the derived age of the universe [as determined by the cosmic microwave background], and the conflict can only be resolved by pushing the error bars to their extreme limits." The error is about 700 or 800 million years. 190.1 light years. Christopher Philippo puts together pieces of the past in researching gravesites and in uncovering his own history. He recently reunited the 19th-Century headstones of Robert Matthews and his son, James, with their remains. Since at least the 1930s, Robert’s stone had served as a barn door stoop on an historic property in Guilderland and James’s stone, in pieces, was edging a garden in Glenmont. Now the repaired gravestones stand side by side in Guilderland’s Prospect Hill Cemetery. Philippo was adopted and, in searching for the identity of his biological parents, has become an activist. In this week’s podcast, he gives the history of legislation in New York preventing adoptees from learning their origins and tells how, over the last two decades, he has lobbied for a law that would give adoptees the right to access their birth certificates. That bill has been passed by both the State Assembly and State Senate and awaits the governor’s signature. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
