In this episode Dr. Michelle Koolaee discusses how to diagnose Sjogren's Disease which is an autoimmune condition that affects moisture-producing glands. Sjögren's can affect multiple systems beyond just the glands, potentially involving nerves, lungs, joints, kidneys, and increasing the long-term risk of lymphoma. Today's Host Dr. Michelle Koolaee did her training for internal medicine residency at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital and went on to do her fellowship at University of Pennsylvania for rheumatology, where she was named Fellow of the Year. Man måste hålla kunskaperna vid liv, säger Gösta Sjögren som fyller 100 år den 20 juli 2026. Det är han själv ett utmärkt exempel på. Här berättar han för Gunnel Agrell Lundgren om sitt långa och innehållsrika liv, uppväxten, arbeten, familjen. Vid 90 års ålder arbetade han fortfarande i egen firma med kontoret i lägenheten. Han har aldrig slutat jobba. Nu mera tar han bara enklare uppdrag t.ex. mindre bouppteckningar, testamenten, deklarationer. Han har ett suveränt minne. Bl.a. minns han sina telefonnummer genom åren. Går på gympa flera gånger i veckan och på andra ställen som Kopp och själ där man sysslar med olika saker och träffar andra gubbar.

Could lupus and Sjögren's symptoms improve in just weeks with the right diet and lifestyle changes? Dr. Brooke Goldner joins Chuck Carroll to share the remarkable stories of patients with autoimmune disease who experienced dramatic recoveries after following her Goodbye Autoimmune Disease protocol. Pesquisadores do Hospital Universitário Cassiano Antonio Moraes (Hucam), ligado à Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes), irão fazer um trabalho de recrutamento de pacientes com a chamada "Doença de Sjögren", para que eles possam ser examinados e terem oportunidade de acesso a novos medicamentos através de protocolos de pesquisa clínica. É uma doença autoimune sistêmica, mas que afeta, sobretudo, as glândulas lacrimais e salivares. O trabalho é coordenado pela médica reumatologista Valéria Valim, pesquisadora à frente do projeto.Segundo informações da Sociedade Brasileira de Reumatologia, trata-se de uma doença auto-imune que se caracteriza, principalmente, pela manifestação de secura ocular e na boca associada à presença de auto-anticorpos ou sinais de inflamação glandular. Algumas células brancas (chamadas de linfócitos) invadem vários órgãos e glândulas, principalmente as glândulas lacrimais e salivares, produzindo um processo inflamatório que acaba por prejudicá-los, impedindo suas funções normais.A médica explica. "Pacientes com a Doença de Sjögren, que têm o anti-Ro positivo, têm queixas de secura e que querem fazer um acompanhamento no Hospital Universitário e ter a oportunidade de acesso a novos medicamentos, que estão chegando. Será realizada uma consulta, no dia 30 de maio, sábado, de 7h às 13h, com o agendamento, para preechimento dos dados e será feito o contato com esses pacientes", explica.O Hucam tem um ambulatório para tratamento da doença, via Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). Em geral, ela explica, é uma doença "desconhecida" e, por isso, demora até o paciente achar o diagnóstico. Em entrevista à CBN Vitória, a médica detalha o assunto.
