Today's guest on the Cryptid Creator Corner has worked in comics as both an editor and a writer since 2008. He worked for Marvel Entertainment, Image Comics, Kodansha, Viz, Vault Comics, and Wizards of the Coast. In 2018, he helped launch TKO Studios as Editor-in-Chief. It's Sebastian Girner and he's now embarked on a new endeavor with Goats Flying Press! They've already launch The Dead and the Damned #1 and #2 and The Fables of Erlking Wood. Sebastian and Jimmy discuss those 2 projects, including the stunning artwork of Kelly Williams and the incredible artistry of Juni Ba. Sebastian talks about his hopes for Goats Flying Press and previews what is coming up in 2025, including Lake Yellowwood Slaughter, described as "The “official comic adaptation” of the most infamous Italian Giallo you've never seen!" Jimmy's brother Bobby is very excited about that one after seeing the cover at Baltimore Comic-Con. Just like the classic 1966 Batman TV show, the Burt Ward interview is a two-parter! This episode is a continuation of Episode 406 and picks up where that episode ended. Burt Ward played Robin/Dick Grayson in the 1966 Batman TV series, alongside the late Adam West in the famed television series that became the #1 rated TV Show in the world. He later became a hero of a different sort, creating and operating with his wife, Tracy, Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, the world's largest giant breed dog rescue during the last 30 years, saving more than 15,500 dogs and hundreds of cats, finding each one a safe, forever home. He also has created with Tracy Gentle Giants Natural Non-GMO Pet Food and Gentle Giants Special Feeding and Care program for dogs and cats that has them living as long as 30 plus healthy, active years with a wonderful quality of life. In this episode, Ward discusses the process of filming Batman and Batman: The Movie. He also talked extensively about the years after Batman and discussed reprising the role in Legends of the Superheroes, and the two animated features based on the show. “Return of the Caped Crusaders” and “Batman vs. Two-Face,” as well as his cameo in the 2019 DC Crossover “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” He also discussed the life and legacy of the late Adam West. He spoke about his relationship with West, and how that friendship endured until the latter's passing. He also details his passion for animals. Finally, Ward discusses the legacy of the Batman TV show in the evolution of the superhero genre.
"Holy Podcast Batman!" Superhero icon Burt Ward played Robin/Dick Grayson in the 1966 Batman TV series, alongside the late Adam West. He was an aspiring young actor at UCLA whose first acting interview landed him the role of Robin the Boy Wonder in the famed television series that became the #1 rated TV Show in the world. He later became a hero of a different sort, creating and operating with his wife, Tracy, Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, the world's largest giant breed dog rescue during the last 30 years, saving more than 15,500 dogs and hundreds of cats, finding everyone a safe, forever home. He also has created with Tracy Gentle Giants Natural Non-GMO Pet Food and Gentle Giants Special Feeding and Care program for dogs and cats that has them living as long as 30 plus healthy, active years with a wonderful quality of life. In this episode, Ward explains in wonderful detail his passion for animals. He also discussed how he met Adam West, and how the fame from being Robin enhanced his life. He also talked about his relationship with West, and how that friendship endured until the latter's passing.
This podcast should be EXHAUSTED. It hasn't slept in DAYS. But it CAN'T GET TIRED. No matter how hard it TRIES. Not on a night like THIS. Not with the PULSE pounding in its EARS and dear GOTHAM calling to it like a sultry SIREN. This is the GOD DAMNED X-Tinction Agenda, scum. You'll remember it for the REST of what passes for your MISERABLE lives. "Oh, I find that power plenty speakable, Hal."
On the final episode of Bat March II the guys talk All-Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder by Frank Miller and Jim Lee. But first, has it been 1000 years since the guys have podcasted? When is the best time to talk Killadelphia? What made Cody feel aging? What exciting event is coming for Comics and Chronic? Is this the most Edgelord Batman? Do any characters have their authentic voices in this comic? How is Jim Lee's art? Should DC create an Edgeworlds imprint? How do the women of this comic look? Why doesn't Superman fly? Does this take place in the same universe as The Dark Knight Returns? Is this comic more edgelord than any other topic we've covered? How do they display the Batcave in the trade? Is this our second Robin origin in one month? Does Batman abuse Dick Grayson? How is Robin's origin more edgelord than normal? What casting does Anthony have? Would we want Ben Affleck as this Batman? Should Sydney Sweeney play Black Canary? Is Plasticman OP? Should Hush be a villain in The Batman 2? What about The Court of Owls? Should people put respect on Joseph Gordon Levitt's name? How do we feel about The Dark Knight Rises now vs. when it came out? How does Batman handle Green Lantern in this comic? The Dynamic Duo is born... and right off the bat there's something a little odd about their relationship. Now, we're not taking Wertham's side on this one but it is really strange for a rich guy to simply abscond with a recently orphaned little boy. It's Detective Comics #38, the first appearance of Robin the Boy Wonder, the multi-murdering sidekick to the Dark Knight Detective. And there are backup stories galore, a few of which contain racism! Before that: the news! The Fantastic Four are cast. Should the movie open in such close proximity to Superman: Legacy? Or can movie theaters support both films? Next week: we're taking a break. It's time. Time to revisit one of the worst comics we've ever read on the show... Frank Miller's All Star Batman & Robin, the famously crass and unfinished alternate universe version of "The Goddamn Batman." Our friend Nick (from the Your Stupid Minds podcast) joined us back when we read the first 6 issues, so of course we had to invite him back to talk about issues 7-10. We were all desperate for some classic Batman after that, so Nick also joined us as we continued our long read of Batman: Knightfall with Chapter 10 in Detective Comics #663. Next Time: Cosmic Ghost Rider (2018) + Knightfall #11 (The Breaking of the Batman)
The gang wraps up the cringy month of September with All Star Batman and Robin: The Boy Wonder (2005) #1 & 2 by Frank Miller with art by Jim Lee. Although this series comes from two heavyweights in the world of comics, not all stories can be great. In a twist on the traditional Batman and Dick Grayson relationship, the reader gets to experience a what if… scenario where Batman is no longer an angsty superhero. This Bruce Wayne is more of an antihero than outright hero. Regularly breaking his code of ethics leads this non-canon Batman to put others at risk of death and shockingly the kidnapping of Dick Grayson. Was this a sincere attempt to tell a Batman story? Or did Frank Miller come up with the ultimate parody to make us appreciate the classic Batman? Find out, as MMP discusses one final cringetastic comic!

Week Two of the Good Brothers' tour of the multiverse examining different variations of Robin The Boy Wonder is making a stop in Batman The Brave and The Bold universe and reviewing the episode "The Color of Revenge!" - a fitting look at a grown up Robin and his struggle to get Batman to recognize him as a Man Wonder. Hear the hosts discuss the complicated voice actor behind the voice of the antagonist of the episode, how this episode draws off of Batman '66 even more than usual, the use of CGI vehicles in the midst of a beautifully animated episode. With no new Marvel shows this week we have pivoted to covering other live action superhero stuff, and for some ungodly reason we chose Legends of the Superheroes, two live action DC Comics specials from network TV in 1979. Featuring the return of Adam West, Burt Ward and Frank Gorshin to their Batman roles, this first special, The Challenge, is a stunningly inane and unfunny hour that also happens to have some of the most comic-accurate versions of the DC characters ever put on film. Therein lies the fascinating dichotomy. When the Legion of Doom decides to end the world in one hour the Superfriends have to go out and bumble their way through unbearable sketches, and then Mordru the Merciless rides a Ski-Doo. It's the worst of Old Hollywood meets a whole bunch of absolute nobody actors with a script by people who could have definitely done better. And it's just the first one - we're doing the second special next week! Both are available free on Tubi, but be aware they have the episodes flipped, so The Challenge is presented as the second episode, when it's actually the first. As if there was going to be continuity to worry about. If you're wondering what we thought of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness the one place to find out is Watch Men, our monthly superhero deep dive podcast, available to $5 and above subscribers at www.patreon.com/cinemasangha. Check it out - the episodes are loooong. Speaking of long, this lengthy ep has an intro/news that runs to 30:23, in case you feel like skipping all that.
For today's episode, we're diving into one of the most poorly received Batman comics of all time from the "All-Star" creative team of Frank Miller and Jim Lee. We had a good time reading All-Star Superman a while back, so how bad could this be? Embarrassingly bad? Offensively bad? Incomprehensibly bad? Maybe all of the above. It's so bad that we needed our friend Nick from the Your Stupid Minds podcast to help us wade through it. Join us as we read All-Star Batman & Robin #1-6, and then continue our long read of the Korvac Saga with Avengers #172. Next Time: We return to the Age of Apocalypse with Factor X #1-4!
T.J., Chris, and Lumpy are introduced to Robin in this installment of Detective Comics
For episode 14 of MCMF, Marcus and Alex sit down to read ALL-STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER. Written by Frank Miller of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and SIN CITY fame, this story is an alternate retelling of how Dick Grayson came to become Batman's partner in crime-fighting.It is also very bad.
In each episode, Zach breaks down a comic book character to an unsuspecting Mike. From the intriguing to the absurd, This show takes a deep dive into what makes comics great. Greetings Citizens and welcome to the pilot episode of the RETRO COOL NERD POWCAST! A retro look at all things cool! Hosted by Jimmy "The Gent", The POWCAST! aims to bring you a nostalgic look back at the things and people from your childhood that made you who you are today. In Jimmy’s case that was the Batman 66 TV show that inspired a never ending celebration of all things retro, cool, and maybe a little nerdy. 80 years ago, almost to the date, Richard “Dick” Grayson would set the bar for hero side kicks as Robin The Boy Wonder. 26 years later Mr. Burt Ward would portray ½ of the Dynamic Duo on 1966’s BATMAN TV show influencing generations of children and adults alike. In our first POWCAST! we invite past and future listeners to join in our 80 year anniversary celebration of Robin the Boy Wonder, and who else would be more qualified to talk about the original sidekick other than our very special guest, pop culture’s first live action “Robin”, Mr. Burt Ward. Listen in as Burt shares tales from his past, both on and off the set, and his further adventures as founder and a “Canine Crusader” with Gentle Giants Dog Food (www.gentlegiantsdogfood.com) as we celebrate 80 years of Robin The Boy Wonder! Grab your headphones, throw on your mask and cape, sit back and embark on a journey with your host Jimmy “The Gent” as he guides you down the wild rapids and twisting turns of our maiden voyage of the RETRO COOL NERD POWCAST! Welcome back to OH GOD IT BURNS!!! Your buyer’s guide to bad comics. The episode you are about to pipe into your ear holes is a rebroadcast of our first episode in the Miller Time series, which takes a deep dive into the depraved and maniacal world of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns universe, starting with the beautifully psychotic mess that is All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. Why a rebroadcast? Because the collector in me goes absolutely nuts when there's a gap in a story, especially one that's as Dan DiDio-sized as the past few episodes. While the title of this series makes it seem like we’re in for a world of whimsical fisticuffs and other brazen acts of derring-do, this series pulls an impressive magic act switcheroo and instead feeds us what is essentially a 10-issue manifesto on how Batman is actually a borderline terrorist child abuser with a hard on for hero hating. Also, he says stuff like “whirling dervish” and “why the fuck you feeding the kid cheeseburgers, Alfred! He’s supposed to be hunting rats!” Seriously guys, there are so so many reasons this series deserves space in your coveted Longbox of Cursed and Forbidden Comics – as does, by extension all other entries in Frankie’s Dark Knight Returns universe - but if I started listing them off here we’d never actually get to the show. So without further ado, I am proud to re-present to you our first episode in Miller Time as we watch the all-star train wreck that is All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder on this week’s episode of OH GOD IT BURNS!!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message

From 2011: For many years, original Batman artist Jerry Robinson was one of the forgotten men in comics. Little known within the industry for all the years he toiled in obscurity, drawing and creating Batman comic books under the byline of the character’s creator, Bob Kane, Robinson emerged from the shadows to become a celebrated and recognized talent in his own right. He is perhaps best known as the actual creator of the greatest supervillain ever, The Joker, and Robin the Boy Wonder.
