This week we are reluctantly opening our third eyes while we discuss “Via Negativa”! We're talking the excess of sleepy FBI agents in this episode, Doggett's Golf Guys dropping like flies and how it's starting to get a little suspicious, Skinner starting drama and Doggett weathering it, how Scully is in the hospital from the stress of being a believer, how much we love how much of a jerk Kersh is, and how after all these years The Lone Gunmen are still Mulder's friends, not Scully's. We get a little jump-scared by Doggett's sad wet eyes, propose a team-up between the table slaw and the chili slide, talk about Skinner prepping for his New Year's party, and how exciting it is that Scully is finally taking some PTO. There's a first time for everything. Also, new tongue twister has just dropped: Agent Angus Stedman in a Stetson.Send us an email at scullynationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Twitter and Instagram!

We don't know if her actual name was Julian, or very much else about her personal life. Some scholars believe that she wasn't even a nun, but a widowed mother who lost her family during the Great Plague and subsequently took anchorite vows. What we have is her book of Sixteen Divine Revelations, in which she describes sixteen visions of Christ that she had over two days. In this book and a subsequent interpretation, she lays out a mystical theology of Christ as Mother, and a theology of divine Love in the Via Negativa tradition of mysticism that challenges the theology of a broken creation that needs fixing.

Fluent in French, German, and English, he enjoys sharing his insights and learnings in his newsletter. Check out the latest episode of our Conversational Selling podcast to learn more about Nicolas. In this episode, Nancy and Nicolas discuss the following:Nicolas' story of getting into this businessPractical tips for email senders to achieve better deliverability and avoid spam filtersHow to avoid getting important emails to spamGmail and Outlook practical insightsHow long does it take to correct spam issues? Why do emails from the same sender intermittently shift between my inbox and spam folder?Key Takeaways: Ten years ago, sending emails was straightforward with clear rules, but today, it's a complex and unclear landscape, creating a significant challenge for email senders.Outlook wants your domain to have a good history, whereas Gmail doesn't care about the IP and the domain, but they care about your users' behavior. If you're doing cold emailing, you need to test your email on InboxBooster or another way once a week to ensure you don't have any problems." So, you have a free tool on our system, the InboxBooster, that tells you how to, analyzes your little list, and tells you where you're emailing. Because if you're emailing just on Gmail, it's not the same thing as if you're emailing on the form of two Fortune 500 companies, which is not the same thing if you're emailing, so there is kind of because usually a lot of SMBs are using Outlook. Some other kinds of startups, lots of startups, are using Google Workspace. So, you really, the first step is really to investigate that. And until you know that it's kind of, you will not be able to sound efficiently. " – NICOLAS"Email has become a bit of a puzzle lately, and let me break it down for you. A decade ago, sending emails was a breeze—clear rules, automated stuff, and personal messages. Fast forward to today, and the line between human and machine-generated emails is blurred, thanks to outreach tools like AdRage and Apollo. Cold emails, though less annoying than cold calls, face skepticism, especially from Google, which prefers ads. Now, onto a fixer-upper story about Y Combinator: despite its strong brand, it battled spam on Gmail. Why? They imported a MailChimp template, and some pruning oversight led them back to the promotion tab. We sorted it out, and they saw a 35% click boost. The lesson? Fixing email glitches is like solving a puzzle, sometimes iterative but worthwhile." – NICOLAS"Sometimes we have customers sending probably more than a couple of thousands of emails per day on cold average, and it's working very well. So, it depends on what you're selling. The key elements are as follows: First, you need to know who you sell to if you do cold average. You need to know: "OK, So this is my ICP," and know those people will sell. And then what I'm saying usually is if you don't know who your ICP is, you need to experiment until you figure it out, but you shouldn't sell a lot of emails to be very careful. In deliverability, once you know who you're selling to, you can sell a lot. And the second thing is sometimes because you care about who you're selling to, so basically, what's your revenue? There is another side to it, and I mentioned it: engagement. So, you want one unsubscription link. One clicks the unsubscription link, now it will be a requirement for Google. And the second thing you want is to be between 0.5 and 1.5 of the unsubscription rate. If you do that, you're fine. This means that you have found a Via Negativa if that makes sense, your ICP. If you want people to unsubscribe a little bit because it's a little bit trying to sell them some stuff and some are not going to be interested, then that's fine, but you don't want too many of them not to be interested because if you're there, this means they don't care, and you're not emailing the right people." – NICOLASConnect with Nicolas Toper:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicolas/Inboxbooster:https://inboxbooster.com/ Try Our Proven, 3-Step System, Guaranteeing Accountability and Transparency that Drives RESULTS by clicking on this link: https://oneofakindsales.com/call-center-in-a-box/ Connect with Nancy Calabrese: Twitter:https://twitter.com/oneofakindsalesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/One-Of-A-Kind-Sales-304978633264832/Website:https://oneofakindsales.comPhone: 908-879-2911LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ncalabrese/Email: leads@oneofakindsales.com
I talk about how, often, the solution to life's problems lie not in adding more things, but removing them.
Any time people dare to make claims about God, we should do it with a healthy dose of humility: after all, we're talking about Mystery beyond our comprehension. And it turns out that there's a long-standing approach to theology that can be helpful in keeping us from thinking we can dissect God like some kind of high school biology experiment. It's sometimes called the "via negativa" or "apophatic theology," and basically, it is an approach to theology that explores what God ISN'T like. Like an artist might use the negative space on a canvas (the parts of the paitning that look "empty") or an artisan might make a design in a fabric batik out of the lines and patterns where the dye DOESN'T go, our God talk sometimes needs to have boundaries of what God is NOT like. So, much like the psalmists and prophets who regularly insist that God is NOT susceptible to getting tired, or that God is NOT moody like human beings can be, or that God DOESN'T need to be fed by sacrifices or offerings, we might find good news in thinking through what God is NOT. And then along the way, we'll explore what the presence of Jesus does to all of our theologizing, if we say God doesn't get tired, experience hunger, or die--and then we go and say that in Jesus, God knows tiredness, hunger, and even death. All of that, along with pop culture check points that range from Neil Gaiman to Rick Astley, all on our 350th episode of Crazy Faith Talk!

Welcome to another Friday Philosophy episode where we consider a different mental model, investigate our favorite frameworks, and muse on the creative habits and rituals of people we admire. Today we're digging into the esoteric philosophy, Via Negativa, to unearth a contemporary take on how we can apply this framework to improve our relationship to time, and how we spend it.
Today, I want to talk about one of my favorite frameworks that I learned from Nicholas Naseem Tilleb, which is called Via Negativa. It's a framework that helps you figure out what you need to stop doing to achieve your goals. Instead of asking what positive actions you need to take...you ask yourself what an absolutely horrible life would look like. This helps you identify the negative aspects of your life that you need to get rid of. It could be anything from a bad relationship to unhealthy habits...like eating too many calories. And here's the kicker: progress in life is often less about doing new things and more about removing things that are holding you back. So, if you want to achieve your goals, start by identifying the top three things that you need to remove from your life. Take some time, sit down, and try this framework out. You won't regret it.LEAVE A REVIEW if you liked this episode!! As we allow ourselves to be drawn deeper into the meaning of obedience by St. John's writing, we begin to see the beauty of the virtue itself and the fruit that it produces within the soul. It is not a slavishness or weakness of will, but rather a soul that has been awakened to the lack of freedom that comes from self-judgment and that is limited or obscured by sin. The more that the heart is purified by grace and the ascetic life, the more we begin to long for obedience because it is an imitation of our Lord. It is His obedience that has led us all to the freedom of life and love in God. We become the greatest confessors of the faith when we conform ourselves to Him in this fashion. A true spiritual father, then, is going to guide their spiritual children along this path that treasures humility, stillness, silence and unceasing prayer. --- Text of chat during the group: 00:03:59 FrDavid Abernethy: page 87 00:04:12 FrDavid Abernethy: paragraph 72 00:19:17 Anthony: Thus, we have Vladika David ;) 00:29:25 Anthony: This humility is different than the idea that man is totally depraved but God declares us just. That religious idea can/does lead to self-loathing. The hopefulness is in the infusion of Grace and Love which God gives us very wounded people. That is a happy hope in contrast to our weakness and realization of our darkness outside of being attached to the Vine. 00:40:31 Anthony: There is a Bulgarian Orthodox Skete in Palmyra, VA near Charlottesville. 00:47:21 Rachel: They may, by this silence, learn to worship God in the moment. Standing silent before the other and suspending judgment.. 00:47:59 Eric Ewanco: how is silence concretely rooted in gentleness and love? 00:48:04 Rachel: May be a way to practice faith and wait patiently for God to reveal Himself 00:51:11 Rachel: I don't think it means that we wont meet with situations where we find others contradicting us, or, when we are actively trying to be silent ourselves contradicting others all day long. So the silence may bring up a lot of uncomfortable contradictions where we learn by necessity, to wait patiently and rely on God in His good providence. It is not an inactive silence 00:52:02 Rachel: Its not rendering oneself dumb 00:53:13 Carol: Like the Blessed Virgin, pondering in one's heart 00:54:23 Johnny Ross: Isn't this silence related to our Saviors Kenosis? It is an emptying of ourselves. Related also to the Via Negativa? 00:59:24 Anthony: When we are emptied, we want to be filled, to have an identity; but it 01:00:13 Anthony: it's awfully hard to follow Jesus because we can't grasp or contain Him, so we want to build ourselves into an image of what we want to be or should be. 01:01:03 Anthony: the heirs of the maccabees 01:05:52 Rachel: today 01:06:30 Rachel: in whole foods yesterday lol 01:08:28 Johnny Ross: Yes, we face a stark choice today, Either we worship God or we worship ourselves. 01:09:01 Anthony: /because prayer is work? 01:12:34 Bridget McGinley: The Bible states to Pray Always... the theme of The Way of the Pilgrim 01:14:42 Rachel: Instead of stripping oneself of everything that may stand in the way of God. Emptying our hearts can feel uncomfortable. prayer can become like building up a wall. Sort of like coming to God every time in prayer and only making small talk or talking at Him, instead of listening and silencing everything that causes anxiety. A way of controlling the conversation for fear of hearing something that is displeasing. 01:17:02 Carol Nypaver: Saint Augustine ~ “When the word of God increases, human words fail.” 01:17:50 Debra: And how can you tell the difference? 01:18:11 Debra: Between desolation, or being drawn deeper? 01:19:46 Debra: Good points...linger in those moments...see where God is taking us 01:20:39 Rachel: I think St Sophrony and St Silouan speak of this. I wonder is there always a correlation between desolation and being drawn deeper? Almost like suddenly becoming aware in a deeper sense that in ourselves, we lack the capacity to run to Him. To feel His presence 01:21:13 Rachel: So we wait, and stay with Him. St Therese speaks of this too 01:22:33 Anthony: That is what Purgatory is, per Dante. 01:23:01 Anthony: a longing to be free, repaired and pure for love. 01:24:21 Johnny Ross: Thank You Father 01:24:33 Rachel: Thank you Father Thank you evryone 01:24:35 Cindy Moran: Thank you, Father!!! 01:24:36 Rachel: lol yes
In this episode, I talk with Max Arb - @max_arbitrage. Max is anonymous on Twitter and is a doctor that has built, sold, and still runs several successful medical practices. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Max as much as I did...
Adam and Stephan bring back John for a deep conversation into the power of naming what God is NOT, discussing Maimonides' Guide for the Perplexed.
Via Negativa: definition; a way of describing something by saying what it is not, especially denying that any finite concept of attribute can be identified with or used of God or ultimate reality. The Lore Keeper and Celtic God discuss the many uses of "via negativa" and how this process can help cut through the bs of so many topics and subjects.
