Most of us can agree that 2020 has been a very difficult year. I am finally feeling some positive energy within reach, thanks to the election win of Biden/Harris. Where were you when you learned that Biden/Harris had finally been declared President and Vice-President of the United States? What feelings surfaced for you? I bet you have a story to tell. So many stories have been shared formally and informally of where people were and how they found out the joyous news. The Biden/Harris win ignited tremendous joy throughout the country and around the world. Countless celebrations erupted from big cities to small towns, infused with an outpouring of spirited, enthusiastic banner-waving, singing, dancing, live musicians, DJs and solidarity. Saturday November 7th, 2020 provided a day of release, relief, hope and joy! Even with that day of joy and celebration, I know there is a tremendous amount of work before us, individually and collectively. I pray that the Biden administration follows through on advocating for equal justice, prison reform, justice for all the families who have lost a loved one to police brutality and white supremacy. Trump is still having his temper tantrums, refusing to accept the results and doing as much damage while he can. Regardless of Trump’s irresponsible, narcissistic, disrespectful antics, we get to watch ourselves respond. What do you notice in yourself? Do you get pulled into the drama? Do the external circumstances throw you off your center? How do you practice ways to stay grounded? How do care for yourself in the midst of the chaos? What thoughts or spiritual practices calm you? What are you reaching for? What feels within reach for you? May positive energy, joy, justice, healing, balance, order, decency and democracy be within our reach. Enjoy the podcast. I think you will enjoy it and have some fun. If you’ve been yearning to hibernate and go inward and maybe even feeling a little more hopeful, the next 6 weeks through Winter Solstice is a potent time for deep self-reflection, inner inquiry and an opportunity for transformation. There are many events that have been fostering a sense of hope and transformation. First, the new moon in Scorpio was this past Saturday November 14th as well as Diwali and Kali Puja, two major festivals in India. It’s also interesting that this was very close to the election in America. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance" lasting for five days from the 13th day of the dark half of the lunar month to the second day of the light half of the next lunar month. While the rest of India worships Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, beauty and abundance during Diwali, eastern India worships the Goddess Kali, the Goddess of death. Although this may sound a little alarming and gloomy, Kali represents mystery, the Goddess Mother, rebirth, female empowerment and the duality of our human nature. Talking about death may sound morbid, but think about mother earth and nature. It is in death, that there is life. Deciduous trees give birth to new plants and organisms. There is always a natural cycle and flow to Life. Death is essential for growth and transformation. We must release limiting beliefs, destructive habits and old stories in order to transform and evolve. Although Lakshmi represent abundance and light, Kali, the goddess of death helps us accept our darkness and duality. We must accept both our light and dark qualities in order to stand in our wholeness. In the darkness is where things grow. By embracing our darkness, our duality, we can discover our light. The next 5 weeks are the darkest time of the year through December 21st, winter solstice, the darkest day of the year with the fewest hours of daylight. After the winter solstice, days start becoming longer and nights shorter as spring approaches. I invite you to take the rest of this year to go inward and reflect on what you want to release in order to transform. What needs to die for you to birth your desired dreams? What stories needs to shed in order to transform? Share with me your intention for this month and what you are shedding here on the blog or on instagram. Also, if you would like to go deeper, please join me for a special virtual 90-minute workshop, SACRED SOUL INTENTION Sunday December 20th, a 90-minute virtual workshop of soulful slow yoga, guided meditation and inward inquiry to set your 2021 intentions and gain clarity about your aspirations and vision for the upcoming year. We’ll come together the day before Winter Solstice, the darkest time of the year, to turn inward and reflect what needs to die and be released in order to birth our dreams, transform in to who you want to be and embody how you want to feel. This is a potent time for your evolution. Are you ready to join me? This week on Open Sources Guelph, it's schadenfreude time! Sadly we can't dedicate the whole hour to sad orange man, but we can discuss his status as a loser for at least one segment. After that, we will talk about the "Great Whole Foods Poppy Controversy of 2020" (TM), and we will talk to our local MPP about last week's budget reveal, and the current status of fighting COVID-19 here in Ontario. This Thursday, November 12, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: Loser. At around 11 am on Saturday November 7 the Trump Age unofficially came to an end when almost every media outlet called the election for former Vice-President Joseph R. Biden. Current President Donald Trump accepted the loss with grace and dignity spent the weekend golfing, rage tweeting and refusing to accept defeat. That's not unexpected. What is unexpected is that the Republican Party is just going along with it. Are the GOP going to allow Trump to just build an alternate reality for himself? Whole Fools. It was nightmare and a disgrace all in one package. Whole Foods, the grocery chain owned by Amazon, had apparently barred its Canadian employees from wearing a red poppy in honour of Remembrance Day, and in stark contrast to almost every other issue, the country's governments acted swiftly to condemn Whole Foods. Did the media make too much of what was likely a cultural misunderstanding, and wasn't cancel culture supposed to be bad? Straight Outta Lockdown! The Ontario Government announced its budget last Thursday (and disappointingly they released it less than an hour before show time), and yes, there is record spending and record deficits, but what does all that extra spending buy us? This week we will be joined by Guelph MPP and Green Party of Ontario leader Mike Schreiner to talk about what he likes about the budget, what he wishes was in the budget, and his thoughts about how the Premier is handling this second wave of COVID-19. Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.

Andrew and Erik return for an election week wrap-up podcast. We promise we'll get back to our traditional format with severely less politics, but for now, we don't really have any topics. This episode was recorded on Saturday November 7th, hours after news media had called the election for Joe Biden. A lot of this episode is our reactions and thoughts on the election week. Next week we will return to topics! Comedy! And dumb stories. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hop-topic/support

Today’s top news updates on the podcast — reports are surfacing that major airports may soon require a ‘Health Pass’ of some kind be presented, showing a passenger’s COVID19 vaccination records or other biometric data, before being allowed on a flight. The unelected COVID19 health bureaucracy elite have already messed up so many other taken for granted areas of life this year, why not venture into screwing up air travel for everyone, they may have figured. Some find this particular vaccine’s properties and rushed roll out schedule to be worrying, to say the least. And tomorrow, Saturday November 14, Trump supporters are expected to visit Washington for a rally of some kind. President Trump has not yet conceded this election, which appears to have been won by Joe Biden, barring any demonstrated proof of widespread vote tampering.
Karin speaks to Alex Thier, is a foreign policy specialist who served with President-Elect Biden in the Obama administration and is currently working to promote Democracy overseas. Alex first appeared on this podcast during the primary, when he made the case for Joe Biden to be the nominee. In this conversation, we discuss what a Biden administration will look like, the challenges the President-Elect faces at home and abroad, and how concerned we should be about Donald Trump's refusal to concede the race. And, of course, we play the Gut Check Game! EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Karin also announced on this podcast that she will be hosting a live online event, "Thanksgiving, Democratically" on Saturday November 28th from 6PM UK time (1PM EST). Most of us will almost certainly know someone - friends or family - fighting against breast cancer. And it can be quite a daunting prospect, having treatment in a foreign country, a different language - away from family and friends. It’s also often hard to find specialist underwear that’s attractive, while still functional for those who’ve undergone partial or complete mastectomy surgery. Now, two expat friends have decided to do something about it. Breast cancer patient Zoë Zenklusen Payne, alongside her friend and fellow Swiss business owner Sarah de Rivaz are in Geneva this weekend with their pop-up store. They will be selling, amongst other things, underwear, hats and bags - all designed with breast cancer treatment in mind. They say it can be isolating going through illness in Switzerland and anyone can pop along and have a chat, a browse and learn about the local support that is on offer. Shoppers can also purchase their special ‘Fearless’ t-shirts, with part of the proceeds going to cancer research charities in Switzerland. The pop-up store is open at HerStreet on Rue des Eaux-Vives 17-19, from 10am - 7pm this Friday and Saturday (November 29 & 30)
I met Paul Peglar in college when we were in “rival” a cappella groups across Los Angeles. Over the years we’ve come in and out of each others’ daily lives and communities. And today I’m connected to Paul through one of my most central communities: the artist collective called ECHT that Paul founded here in Brooklyn, New York. Paul’s superpower is bringing artists together in unique live experiences, and bridging the gap between artist and audience. In this extra special Thanksgiving episode, Paul shares how to find your people no matter where you are, and why joining together for creative expression is so important.
