In the year 2000 you had WWF, WCW, ECW and WXO Wrestling! Ted DiBiase was the CEO and CFO who wanted to bring back family friendly wrestling! He lets us know there will be no guaranteed contracts, only opportunities in this new era of professional wrestling. No more “prima donnas”, does this sound familiar. The show featured many WCW Saturday Night wrestlers and the unforgettable Scott Nash! It's crazy that a promotion would start at this time during the Monday Night War but as we find out, WXO Wrestling didn't last long at all.⦁ Deadlock Discord: https://discord.gg/E4BvR4W⦁ Deadlock Shop: https://shop.deadlockpw.com⦁ Deadlock Patreon: https://patreon.com/deadlockpw⦁ Deadlock Twitter: https://twitter.com/deadlockpw⦁ Deadlock Instagram: https://instagram.com/deadlockwrestling⦁ Deadlock Reddit: https://reddit.com/r/deadlockpw⦁ Deadlock Pro Wrestling: http://deadlockpro.com

Scott Nash, CEO of MOM’s Organic, joins NCL’s Executive Director Sally Greenberg for a dialogue about America’s shocking food waste epidemic, our food system, and the impact that our dinner plates have on the environment.
Women in STEM (0:00:00) Did you know that on average, only 21% of women graduate college with a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, or STEM degrees as they are often called? This makes for underrepresentation in the workforce. So, what is it that keeps women from pursuing degrees in these fields? Susan Madsen specializes in women's leadership. She joins us to talk about a new study that she has been working on that will shed some light on why women aren't choosing STEM degrees. Anatomy of Resentment (0:18:22) Have you ever felt resentment for something that originally seemed so silly? Licensed social worker, Robert Taibbi, joins us to explain the anatomy of resentment, as well as give us the tools to deal with it. Toni Morrison's Legacy (0:33:20) Toni Morrison was the first African American woman to win the Nobel Prize for literature. Her critically acclaimed novels, such as “The Bluest Eye,” “Beloved” and “Paradise,” all explored the African American experience within the black community. This year we said goodbye to this literary giant, but her legacy has impacted ethnic literature for good. We have with us English professor and lecturer, Laura Ann Winkiel, to discuss Morrison's influence and the impact of ethnic literature on our society. Food Expiration Dates (0:49:26) Does food actually go bad after the expiration date has passed? A man named Scott Nash has been in the news because he ate expired food for a year—and he's doing fine. So what do expiration dates actually tell us? What's safe to eat, and what isn't? To answer these questions, we're talking with registered dietitian nutritionist Melissa Joy Dobbins. Amusement Parks (1:05:01) Are you looking to squeeze in just a little bit more fun at an amusement or theme park? How can you make it worth it with all the hassle of parking, dealing with crying kids and paying for overpriced food? Travel blogger Tangela Walker-Craft has the answer and all the tips for making the most out of your park experience. College Freshman Writing (1:18:37) For college freshmen, college writing can be the most daunting, boring, and dreadful task known to man. With all the newness of college, adding this higher level of writing can be overwhelming. But maybe it doesn't have to be so bad. Shelli Spotts is an English professor with years of experience teaching freshman writing with the idea that everyone has a story to tell. She joins us to give us tips, advice, and help us to understand how college writing can be enjoyable.
Food company CEO Scott Nash spent a year eating food past its expiration date, tortillas a year past, yogurt months past and heavy cream 2.5 months past its expiration date. Truth: Most expirations dates on medicine and food don't mean ingestion will be dangerous past that date. Meds can be fine years out of date, perhaps less effective but most are not harmful. Expirations dates should be honored on certain foods, including deli meats, unpasteurized cheeses & milk. And tossing picnic foods that have been unrefrigerated too long is still the best advice. Implementing a voluntary system, 2 years ago the food industry came up with a compromise of 2 labels: Best if Used By and Use By - to reduce confusion. Nearly 90% of us toss expired foods. But that's not necessary with most food items. Scott Nash was just fine! Christa reads listener posts about how Clark has missed the mark in his advice this week. And he says that most expiration dates are meaningless.
This episode of ORIGINS continues the conversation we started on Thursday, September 20th about the economic impact of buying and sourcing food locally. Last week we heard from Scott Nash, the CEO and Founder of Mom’s Organic Market and Tracy Ward, the Director of a new food hub in Easton called Chesapeake Harvest. We’re continuing our look at the economics of buying and selling locally with two farmers and business owners with different but successful models. Mark Toigo is the farmer/owner of Toigo Orchards in Shippensburg, PA. Mark began his career in agriculture at an early age moving with this family from Washington DC to his family’s newly acquired orchard in Shippensburg. After a brief stint in the aeronautics industry, Mark returned to the family farm. With expansion in mind, Mark was at the forefront of developing the farm to table model which allowed rural farms to collaborate and partner together to bring their products to the urban marketplace. This program is now an extensive network of Farmer’s Markets saturating the New York City and Washington DC areas. Mark sells to multiple sales channels including Whole Foods, Mom’s Market and others. He has a clear understanding of the marketplace and buyer trends which allows him to forecast trends and select crops that show promising yields and buyer preference. Mark makes sustainability a top priority and has built and retrofitted facilities to reduce the negative affects commercial agriculture has on the environment. Our other panelist is Dave Liker, farmer/co-owner of Gorman Farms in Howard County, Maryland. Dave started working in organic farming over 20 years ago in both California and high altitude Colorado. He moved to Maryland in late 2008 to start Gorman Farms. They are now in their 10th season of production. They have expending and purchased their own farm in 2016 and are now operating off of 2 locations in Howard County. He grows diversified annual vegetables for a 600+ member CSA. They are a CSA only model and also run a pick your own strawberries for a few weeks in late spring. ORIGINS is powered by Simplecast.
The intent behind ORIGINS, a speaker series, was to highlight the farmers, fisherman, producers, and makers behind the local food movement in the Mid-Atlantic region. Spike Gjerde started his first restaurant, Woodberry Kitchen, with a commitment to local growers and producers. He and his team have returned more than $2.1 million annually to the local economy during the last several years. This episode will take a closer look at the economics of the local food system from both a retailer’s perspective and an Eastern Shore aggregator called Chesapeake Harvest, based in Easton, Maryland. In Episode #27, we continue the conversation with two local farmers, Dave Liker from Gorman Farms and Mark Toigo from Toigo Orchards. This episode’s panelists are Scott Nash and Tracy Ward. Scott Nash started MOM’s Organic Market at the age of 22 with an initial investment of $100 as a home delivery business out of his mom’s garage. On July 2nd 1987, MOM’s made its first sale delivering to a customer who lived in Rockville, MD. Since then, MOM’s has grown to become one of the nation's premier chains of family owned and operated organic grocery stores. MOM’s has nineteen stores in DC, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Tracy Ward has over 30 years of experience as an economic and community development leader, devoting her career to community transformation and change through collaborative public/private partnership and cross-disciplinary strategies. In 2004, Tracy founded Urbanite, an award-winning glossy magazine with a circulation of over 60,000 in the Baltimore metropolitan area. After shuttering Urbanite in 2012, Tracy took a year off to work on farms and learn about our local food system. In 2014, as executive director of the Easton Economic Development Corporation, Tracy started Chesapeake Harvest, a sales, marketing and branding organization committed to increasing sales of locally and sustainably grown food products in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The boys welcome back "Diamond Dust", as she is filling in for Crystal, once again. They have a little fun with her talking about pole dancing and if she's been busy lately. Sully gets right into it talking about his love for the EA Sports Madden Football game for the Xbox and how he cannot wait for it to be released this week. They discuss the "Madden Curse" for players that have been on the cover of the video game and unfortunately for Kevin, Antonio Brown is on the cover this year. He's praying the Madden Curse doesn't effect the Pittsburgh Steelers, which is his favorite team. The crew talks football for a bit and how the hits seem too get worse and worse every year, but without some good hits, and new rules in the NFL, it is making football a lame sport to watch. Diamond thinks the hits are horrible and hates when players do it on purpose to try and take others out of the game. Kevin relates back to when the players wore much less protective equipment yet, made it through with less injury. Sully explains that the athletes are just getting bigger, better and stronger through the years and they are freaks of nature now. They all agree the new NFL rules "gum up" the game quite a bit and they can be interpreted in many different ways. Kevin and Sully talk about fantasy football and whom would be their first and second draft picks if every player was available. And of course, some how as usual, they get on the topic of Strip Clubs. Kevin and Sully talk about their "first times" at clubs. Kevin reveals he's been in the "champagne room" with 2 girls and Sully left his drunk buddy in a bush to get more lap dances. Diamond tells about how her club is busy on Mondays, which Kevin thinks is super weird. They talk about the entertainment factor of strip clubs in correlation with other entertainment like, the WWE or World Wrestling Entertainment. Diamond used to LOVE wrestling and Scott Nash, while Kevin's favorite wrestler was the Ultimate Warrior (RIP). Sully's was obviously Hulk Hogan, the "All American". That drifts the conversation back into football and athletes using PED's and how that impacts the hits in the games as well. This show is laid back, casual talk about a few different topics. We hope you enjoy!
On this episode of Bootstrapped, we interviewed founder and owner of MOM’s Organic Market Scott Nash. Scott started MOM’s Organic Market in 1987, selling produce out of his mother’s garage and using his sister’s Chevy Malibu to deliver grocery orders at night. Today, Scott has grown MOM’s Organic Market to a point where it has stores in four states and Washington D.C., employs more than 1,000 people and has a dedicated following of customers committed to its purpose of protecting and restoring the environment. In this episode, Scott discusses the slow and methodical approach to his growth, how branding is the most valuable aspect of MOM’s and how progressive and socially active values are integral to his business.
