This week's headlines may seem unrelated:Hollywood's adaptation of The Odyssey, renewed debate over the American empire, and tensions inside the Southern Baptist Convention. But beneath all three stories lies a deeper question: Who inherits the West? What happens when civilizations lose their memory? What are Christians supposed to make of empire, national identity, and cultural inheritance? And what happens when institutions prioritize mission without guarding truth—or truth without pursuing mission? In this episode of The World View, Alex Kocman explores the deeper spiritual and cultural questions beneath the news cycle: myth and memory, Christ versus Caesar, and why institutions matter in the work of Christian faithfulness.Topics include:- Hollywood and the battle over cultural inheritance - The West, Christianity, and civilization - America, empire, and the longing for a kingdom - Southern Baptist tensions and institutional reform - Why doctrine and mission belong togetherTruth and mission are not enemies. Truth is what makes mission worth doing in the first place.Watch all of our videos and subscribe to our channel for the latest content >HereHere

Just Won a Natty/Indianapolis Vibes Starts at 0:51 No crying this time, but we do think we can have nice things now. You get out of it what you put into it; the UMHoops guys are probably experiencing the highest of highs. The 2023 football championship was a thing no other fanbase has experienced; this is what a normal natty feels like. Some of us survived the 2023-24 team. The story begins with the Ellerbe years, the Beilein era absolutely helped build this. Don't resent the Fab Five, but they unfairly had to represent what Michigan could be. Reconsidering the Juwan era, the heart condition, how badly he needed a GM. Beilein was spiritually (and literally) present for this team; loudest the stadium got before Michigan hit a three was when they showed him. Very unselfish team. Built through the portal—Cronin was never going to be a good fit for Mara, Rez wasn't going to have a role after Illinois got the other Ivisic, Cadeau was struggling in a bad system at UNC, Yaxel used the portal to get here from JUCO via UAB, Roddy Gayle was the national glue guy of the year, Nimari was here three years through two coaching changes, and Will Tschetter was a five-year player who took a smaller role: nobody can make a good faith argument that any of these guys don't belong here. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. The UConn Game Starts at 27:50 Takes hotter than the rims during the final last night. Story of the game was UConn fouling the crap out of Michigan from literally the tip. Miss the first Cadeau and-one, then hit 24 free throws in a row to offset the terrible threes, until Roddy missed his pair. Snakebit shooting because Rez/Mara/Yax kept getting mismatches down low, but Michigan was able to play their bigs together, and that just made it impossible for UConn to score. Felt like Lendeborg was himself on defense; offensively he was obviously hobbled. Their communication was fantastic, and there weren't mismatches for UConn to hunt. A time or two they got Mara versus Karaban on the perimeter or something, but they didn't get backcut once. Tarris was basically shut down by Mara. Only thing they got were those ORebs, which were hat tips to them and also related to Michigan taking way the three. Next year Trey McKenney; graded on a curve he made 2 of Michigan's three jumpers, including the dagger. The Rube Goldberg three. Cadeau vs the Cadeau we thought we were getting. 3. How this Team Came Together Starts at 59:16 Revisiting how the roster came together, May's eye for talent, because every guy he got at FAU wound up a star somewhere. You can't actually build from the portal; if that's the lesson they're taking from this team they're going to get lit up. Cadeau cleaned up the TOs (but still commits them at the end of the game his banana peel). On the human to athlete personality spectrum, Mara is a normal human being, who never should have been paired with Cronin—all little guys who play basketball are born killers because you have to be, but it's common for bigs to be like that. Mara was the best player; he developed into a beast by the end of the year. Transfer teams: if you look at the rest of the top ten four didn't make the Tournament; Michigan was the only protected seed that took a lot of transfers. St. John's and Louisville were the others. Once you're been at a school a year you're not a transfer anymore. Cig vs May: Cignetti relied more on his JMU transfers. It's especially hard to recreate what Michigan did defensively, because at the end these guys won a title by doing the best job of anybody of playing with each other. Introducing the Bobby Hurley Index: How many photos do you look like Jim Carrey in The Mask? 4. Next Year Starts at 1:38:41 Are they looking at the portal list or the list of guys projected to the late 1st/early 2nd round? Mara and Rez are probably done—small chance they get Rez back. Cason going to redshirt. Gayle, Burnett, Yaxel are out of eligibility. Cadeau and McKinney: best backcourt in the country next year? McCoy is Charles Matthews-ish, going to be a major defensive presence; if you get two years out of him he's a big get but he doesn't have a deep shot, might be freshman Darius Morris or what we wanted Rubin Jones (PG who can guard 1-4) to be. Recruited lots of SFs: Grady? Liburd? Brown? All going to be 6'5" gumby-armed switchable guards. Backup PG: can McCoy or McKenney can play point for 10 mpg. Do they have a wing? Want that guy to be switchable; Seth thinks they're going to have a big war chest to find an NBA four who can play the three in addition to two bigs. Goodman will be next year's Tschetter. Need three portal bigs. Is Dusty May the #1 coach you would want to have if you were looking for one right now? UNC search was Tommy Lloyd and Dusty May right? Amorina Kingdon is a science journalist and fiction writer living in Victoria, British Columbia. While working as a staff writer and researcher for Hakai Magazine covering ocean and coastal science around the world, she became fascinated by underwater sound. The result is her recent book Sing Like Fish - How Sound Rules Life Under Water. On this episode of Nature Revisited, Kingdon introduces us to the emerging science of just how many animals under water, from larvae to lobsters to sea lions, rely on—and are impacted by—sound. Sound travels four times faster under water than in air and conveys a wealth of information about food, threats, and the surrounding environment. Even animals that don't speak or have 'ears' still find ways to listen. This is why the widespread din of ships, pile drivers, motorboats, sonar, air guns, and other human-made noise is so concerning. https://www.amorinakingdon.com/ Sing Like Fish book: https://www.amazon.ca/Sing-Like-Fish-Sound-Rules/dp/0593442776 Other Ocean Wildlife Sounds Resources: https://fishsounds.net/ https://www.macaulaylibrary.org/ https://www.whalingmuseum.org/research/digital/watkins-marine-mammal-sound-recording/ Listen to Nature Revisited on your favorite podcast apps, on YouTube, or at https://noordenproductions.com Subscribe on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/bdz4s9d7 Subscribe on Apple Podcasts: https://tinyurl.com/5n7yx28t Subscribe on Youtube Podcasts: https://tinyurl.com/bddd55v9 Podlink: https://pod.link/1456657951 Support Nature Revisited https://noordenproductions.com/support Nature Revisited is produced by Stefan van Norden and Charles Geoghegan. In this new episode of the “When the Far Right and the Far Left Converge” series, which shares fresh research from aworkshop organised by the CEU DI Democracy in History Work Group, we discuss with Dr Ashton Kingdon and Dr BalšaLubarda how both the far right and the far left mobilise ecological ideas, often drawing from the same language of resistance. Based on their paper “Co-optationwithout Ownership: The Idea of Resistance in Multimodal Radical Right and Left Ecological Argumentation,” the conversation explores how environmentalismbecomes a battleground of competing ideologies, revealing surprising overlaps in how radical movements frame their struggle against perceived systems of oppression. The episode also examines how the use of similar imagery bydifferent groups can become dangerous in democracies, leading to confusion or disorientation among citizens and making it harder to interpret images and slogans outside their original context.
Quick Summary & Overview: Our program began with a detailed technical discussion about the Starship spacecraft and its potential for Mars missions. The group explored various technical challenges and possibilities for Starship's capabilities, including engine operations, payload considerations, and transit times, while also discussing nuclear propulsion options and potential destinations for the spacecraft. The conversation concluded with discussions about lunar stations, their economic and scientific value, and the broader implications of public-private partnerships in space exploration.I started this program by introducing Space Show participants, including John Hunt, and guest Jack, Dr. Ajay Kothari, John Jossy, Phil, Peter, and Marshall Martin. I discussed the upcoming Starship and Mars transit topic with Jack, who agreed to stay for a 90-minute discussion. I also mentioned upcoming guests for future shows, including Joe Carroll, Dr. Benaroya, Sam Ximenez, and Dr. Mike Grumpman. I brought up fundraising and financial support for The Space Show as we are a listener supported show and we request your help to keep the program going.I also talked about the ongoing denial-of-service attack on the Space Show by AI bots which has led to issues with podcasting and other problems. We are using Cloudflare blocking for all non-human traffic but sometimes that blocks desirable non-human traffic. I mentioned the potential move of the podcast to Substack, but this is still in progress. I introduced our guest Jack Kingdon, a final-year undergraduate physics student at UCSB. He shared his interest in Starship and his published work in a Nature sub-issue which explores Starship's capabilities.Jack presented his research on the potential for Starship to achieve faster transit times to Mars, suggesting that the increased payload capacity and reusability of Starship could enable missions to Mars in as little as 3 months, compared to the traditional 6-7 month journey. He noted that this would require higher velocities and specific impulse from the Raptor engines, as well as meeting certain mass ratio targets. The discussion touched on the challenges of a narrow launch window for such a fast transit, the potential benefits of reduced radiation exposure, and the ethical considerations of presenting cost data without proper sourcing. Jack acknowledged the need to revise his cost estimates and agreed to further investigate SpaceX's perspective on faster transit options. Our group discussed reducing the payload of the Starship to accelerate transit time for human cargo, with Jack explaining that converting payload to fuel could increase delta-V by about 10%, but this might not be sufficient for a 90-day Holman transfer. Phil noted that SpaceX's claimed 100-ton payload capacity for Mars missions assumes optimal cargo transfers, and reducing payload to 45 tons could allow faster travel but might not be feasible for a crew. Marshall raised questions about using composite materials instead of stainless steel, which Jack explained was considered but abandoned due to concerns about re-entry temperatures and the need for ablative or ceramic heat shields. The group discussed the feasibility of a Mars mission involving separate reentry vehicles and transit vehicles, with Peter proposing a two-vehicle system to reduce heat shield requirements. Dr. Kothari explained that slowing down in cold space would require significant propellant, making the proposed system impractical. The discussion then shifted to SpaceX's plans for in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) on Mars, with Jack noting that four shiploads of ISRU propellant would be needed rather than one, though he expressed doubts about the technical feasibility of this approach. Phil raised concerns about SpaceX's payload claims for the Starship, questioning whether they could truly achieve the promised capabilities with current technology. The group discussed nuclear propulsion options for space exploration, with Jack expressing skepticism about solid-core nuclear thermal rockets due to their high dry mass and limited specific impulse advantage. They explored the challenges of nuclear power systems on Mars, including radiative cooling requirements and ISRU considerations, with Phil noting that nuclear reactor radiators might become as heavy as solar panels. The conversation also touched on quantum physics research at UCSB, where Jack works on atomic and condensed matter systems, and Marshall raised questions about light speed in neutron stars, though Jack couldn't provide specific answers about light propagation in such extreme environments.Jack discussed the potential destinations for the Starship, emphasizing Mars as a priority due to the possibility of discovering ancient bacteria. He explored the feasibility of uncrewed missions to Jupiter and Saturn, highlighting Starship's capabilities for such missions. The group also discussed the use of Starship as a space settlement vehicle, with Jack noting its potential as a habitat for lunar and Martian settlements. David inquired about Jack's support from his professors for his Starship work, to which Jack replied that they have been very supportive. The discussion concluded with predictions on SpaceX's timeline for taking people to Mars and concerns about potentially losing to China in space exploration. This program is audio archived at www.thespaceshow.com. I read something the other day that had a reference in it to a new book that had just come out. The book's called, “Sing Like Fish,” and it's written by author and science writer Amorina Kingdon. Needless to say, I immediately ordered the book, and I have to tell you, I burned through it in three days. The subtitle is, “How Sound Rules Life Underwater,” which you can imagine, as a wildlife sound recordist, really caught my attention. Actually, a few things in the book caught my attention, including this quote: “For all the wonders and worries of this subject, the truth is that noise does not match the deep threat posed to the oceans by climate change. And yet, neither issue is monolithic or exists in a vacuum. Warming or acidifying waters will conduct sound differently: Sound's effect on ecosystems like reefs or Arctic food webs will ricochet into animals' responses to climate change. Yet I believe that it is never a waste to examine the world though a new lens, through a new sense.” That's powerful writing. So, as I tend to do, I went looking for the author, and I found her north of the border in British Columbia. Amorina and I had a nice chat, discovered that we have a lot of common interests, including, of all things, the acoustic work done by Bell Laboratories, and she agreed to be on the program. Our conversation wandered all over the landscape—I recorded more than three hours of tape—but I edited it down to the most important points. Here's Amorina.
“Autism is not a problem that needs to be solved. Our co-occurring conditions are what need to be solved or accommodated.” - Dr. Angela Kingdon Did you know 41% of people with strong autistic traits also have fibromyalgia? It works the other way around, too, with 10 to 20% of people with fibromyalgia having autistic traits. On this episode of the Allyship in Action podcast, Julie Kratz is joined by Dr. Angela Kingdon, Autistic Advocate and host of The Autistic Culture Podcast. Dr. Kingdon shares how life can throw you a curveball – like finding out you're autistic at 39! Angela's journey is a testament to the power of self-discovery and the importance of understanding neurodiversity. She's not just talking about labels; she's talking about culture, empathy, and making room for everyone's unique "weirdness." And let's be honest, who isn't a little weird in their own special way? It's about celebrating those differences. Here are the key themes explored on this episode: The Double Empathy Problem: It's not that autistic people lack empathy; it's that neurotypical and autistic individuals operate within different cultural frameworks. Understanding this cultural difference is key to bridging communication gaps. It's like learning the shower habits of your mother-in-law – it's about cultural awareness, not judgment. Rebranding Autism: The outdated "Rain Man" stereotype has done a disservice to the autistic community. It's time to shift the narrative and recognize the diverse spectrum of autistic experiences. It's time to throw out the old script and write a new one, where everyone gets a starring role. Support Needs vs. Labels: Focusing on individual support needs rather than rigid labels fosters a more inclusive and understanding environment. It's not about "how bad" someone's autism is; it's about "what do they need right now?" It's like asking for a ride when you break your ankle – it's about practical support, not categorization. Self-Advocacy and Accommodations: Understanding your sensory profile and advocating for your needs is crucial for autistic individuals. Small accommodations, like moving water bottles or adjusting lighting, can make a significant difference. It's about knowing your "meat body" and making the world a little more comfortable, one adjustment at a time. Special Interests and Connection: Asking about someone's special interests is a powerful way to connect with autistic individuals. It's like unlocking a treasure trove of passion and knowledge. It's about finding common ground in the things that light us up, whether it's wreck-it Ralph or German tanks. Actionable Allyship Takeaway: Start practicing "spin bonding." Instead of asking "how are you?" which can be challenging for autistic individuals, ask about their special interests. "What are you researching right now?" or "Tell me about your hobbies" are great conversation starters. This simple shift can foster deeper connections and create a more inclusive environment. Quotes: "Autism needs a better PR department like we have some messaging problems." "It's a double empathy problem. Not autistic people don't have empathy, so we have plenty of empathy. We might even have more than you. We have to understand and respect each other's cultures enough to know this person has empathy. Just looks different than mine." "Just making room for more differences. Makes the world just. More magical, like so many surprise." "If a label makes you happy you should use it." Next Level Soul with Alex Ferrari: A Spirituality & Personal Growth Podcast
On today's episode, we welcome Kathlyn Kingdon, a seasoned channeler who has worked closely with the Ascended Master Djwhal Khul (Master DK) for over 40 years. With a background in law firm administration, Kathlyn's journey took a profound turn when she embraced her role as a spiritual channel, bridging divine wisdom with human understanding.Kathlyn recounts how her connection with Master DK began during a tumultuous period in her life. Seeking clarity through another channel, she encountered the Ascended Master who later became her guiding presence. “I heard him all the time after that session,” she recalls. Her initiation into channeling was as unexpected as it was transformative, pushing her into a path she initially found intimidating but ultimately fulfilling.Master DK, often referred to as "The Tibetan," is best known for his teachings through Alice Bailey. However, as Kathlyn explains, his current mission focuses on addressing the emotional body, an area she believes humanity has collectively bypassed. “We haven't truly learned to use our emotions well,” she shares.Through her work, Master DK aims to help individuals integrate their emotional experiences, healing past traumas, and cultivating balance. The conversation delves into the nature of Ascended Masters and their role in human evolution. Kathlyn describes them as divine guides who bridge the spiritual and physical realms, offering profound insights to expand human consciousness. As Master DK once told her, “It's not just about what we learn; it's about how we transform.” Their teachings emphasize interconnectedness and the collective journey toward spiritual awakening.Kathlyn highlights the importance of navigating humanity's current challenges, such as technological advancements and societal upheavals. She believes we're at a pivotal moment in history, transitioning from the Piscean Age, which emphasized individuality and hierarchy, to the Aquarian Age, marked by collective empowerment and unity. This shift, though turbulent, offers an opportunity for humanity to redefine itself.SPIRITUAL TAKEAWAYSThe Emotional Body Matters: Healing our emotions is vital for spiritual growth and integration.Conscious Collective Shifts: Humanity is moving toward unity and shared empowerment.Stay Awake and Engaged: Facing challenges with intention and awareness leads to growth. In this illuminating dialogue, Kathlyn's reflections remind us of the vastness of human potential when we align with higher consciousness. Her journey, guided by Master DK, offers hope and clarity for navigating these transformative times. Please enjoy my conversation with Kathlyn Kingdon.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.
Psalm 78 Worksheet The Hebrew word for contemplation is Maschil (H4905). It is used in the titles of _____ of the Psalms. With 72 verses, Psalm 78 is the second longest of the Psalms. It still only has ______________% as many verses as the longest, Psalm 119 (176 verses). Two more things we know about Asaph: He liked his worship ___________________ (cymbals and trumpets) He influenced _______________________ after him to worship God! Psalm 78:1-8 is like 2 Timothy 2:1-2. There are at least ___________ generations of believers pictured in both passages. Why are we to rise and tell our children the things of the Lord? So they may put their __________________ in God (v. 7) Psalm 78:9-55 is a wonderfully poetic retelling of the Exodus and Conquest of Canaan. God took His people out of Egypt and ___________________________ them to the Promised Land. In these verses we see both God's ____________________________ and Israel's failures and fickleness emphasized. Psalm 78:56-72 celebrate the emergence of __________________________ as foremost of the tribes. Verse 59 speaks of the rejection of Israel, and abandonment of the Tabernacle at Shiloh. What tribe is Shiloh in? _______________________ Genesis 37-50 tells the story of the 12 tribes, and why the Messiah will be from the tribe of Judah not Joseph. In the rest of the Old Testament those 2 tribes _________________________ the others. Even before the Kingdon of Israel divided the basic division of Israel was Judah in the South and Joseph and the other tribes in the North. In the Old Testament, sometimes the _________________________ North is referred to as Joseph or Ephraim, as happens here in Psalm 78. Psalm 78 could also be a rationale around the time of the dedication of the Temple for why the ruling tribe is now Judah and why the Temple is ______________ Judah's borders in Jerusalem, not Ephraim's at Shiloh. Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not something to be waited for, it is something to be achieved. -William Jennings Bryan

The ocean has proven endlessly mysterious and fascinating to all manner of people across the globe, but for centuries true knowledge of the depths was simply out of reach. As modern technologies advance, science has debunked much once held to be true – including the idea of the “silent world” of the ocean. What was once thought to be a muffled marine landscape with little to no perceptible sounds has now been revealed to be a complex interplay of aquatic acoustics. In her debut book Sing Like Fish: How Sound Rules Life Under Water, science journalist Amorina Kingdon turns up the volume on groundbreaking discoveries in ocean soundscapes, why this research is important to our ecosystems, and how human impact is playing more of a role than science realized. Sing Like Fish explores how the complexity of oceanic noise goes far deeper than the familiar hits like whale song and crashing currents. Sound travels four times faster in water than in air and its reach in environmental impact is as expansive as the seas themselves. Kingdon educates readers on a plethora of natural sonic relationships that have been recorded under the surface – from individual snapping shrimp and communicating fish to rumbling seismic activity bouncing off the seafloor in regions light cannot reach and the biodiversity concerts that live as coral reefs. These revelations also cast into sharp relief the repercussions of humanity's presence in our seas. Marine noise pollution takes the form of everything from recreational boating and cruise tourism to the global shipping industry to military forces and oil exploration. As science continues to uncover the splendor and nuance of the ocean as an audible entity, Sing Like Fish reinforces the importance of understanding, protecting, and reveling in the symphony of our seas. Amorina Kingdon is an award-winning writer and science journalist with a focused fascination in marine biology and coastal environments. She previously served as staff writer and contributor to Hakai Magazine. Her science writing has been anthologized in Best Canadian Essays 2020 (Biblioasis), and her fiction works have been included in PRISM Magazine, Flash Fiction Magazine, and Speculative North. From Ed Mabrie of Faith By Reason YouTube Faith By Reason Website Faith By Reason on X Aug 16, 2024 There is a lot of eschatological "noise" on social media and alternative news about the so-called "Little Season" of Satan, and whether or not we are currently in it. The Little Season theory essentially states that we are in a Post-Millennial period between the 1000-year Kingdon of Jesus and the Great White Throne of Judgement. Revelation chapter 20 states that after the Armageddon scenario, Satan is imprisoned for the 1000-year Millenial reign of Jesus. After which, he is released for a "little season" to gather the nations to overthrow Jesus in Jerusalem. According to this theory, we are in that season right now! This means that the rapture, the Tribulation, Armageddon, the Second Coming of Jesus, and the 1000-year Kingdom have ALREADY HAPPENED!! The proof point promoted by people who espouse this theory is the advanced "Tartarian" architecture that we see remnants of around the world. This apparently speaks to an advanced civilization with extraordinary technological know-how that vanished no more than a few hundred years ago. According to them, this abandoned technology proves that Jesus ruled over an advanced society in the recent past (and then He apparently just abandoned it...and us). But does the Little Season and Tartaria fit Biblically, historically, and logically? The answer is a resounding NO! A mere cursory examination of this theory shows that it is utterly ludicrous! So why is it being promoted so vigorously? I was puzzled by this until I noticed that the promoters of this theory, tended to also hold to another long-held and equally poor eschatological theology. And the Little Season is their latest attempt to justify their bankrupt beliefs. Have you ever heard a haddock knock? What about a cusk eel's chatter? Sound travels four-and-a-half times faster through water than air and can be heard across huge distances. It's how whales are able to communicate hundreds of kilometres apart. Yet, for all its wonder, much of the underwater acoustic world remains a mystery to scientists.Although human ears can't detect most marine sounds, the invention of hydrophones – microphones designed to capture underwater audio – is helping scientists begin to unravel this hidden world. So how does sound move through water? And how do underwater creatures perceive and use sound? Amorina Kingdon's new book ‘Sing Like Fish' explores these questions, revealing how marine life depends on ingenious uses of sound to communicate, navigate, and thrive. In this episode, Kingdon and host Christie Taylor explore the fascinating ways fish and other marine animals produce sound, the physics of underwater ears, and how humans are impacting critical underwater soundscapes. Plus, samples of some of the most captivating underwater sounds she's encountered in her research. To read about subjects like this and much more, visit newscientist.com. Hosted on Acast. What kinds of sound are our oceans making, and what do they mean? In this episode, award-winning science writer Amorina Kingdon discusses her book, Sing Like Fish: How Sound Rules Life Under Water, which is the culmination of her work exploring how marine animals use sound to survive and the ways humans are impacting critical underwater soundscapes. These explorations range from investigations of the syntax of whalesong to analysing the reverberations of the plainfin midshipman fish, whose swim-bladder drumming is loud enough to keep houseboat-dwellers awake. Joining Kingdon to discuss it all is the journalist, audio producer and book critic, Mythili Rao. We are sponsored by Indeed. Go to Indeed.com/IS for £100 sponsored credit.
