See ya later, pala-dudes! This week, V and Emily hit a double-header in the Voltron: Legendary Defender fandom (thanks to two requesters and V's VLD primer pal, Fran!). First, V attempts to explain what the show is about and why it launched on Netflix with a built-in fandom. And then... oh, boy. You know how our ending stinger is "well-behaved fandoms rarely make history"? Well, this fandom is VERY POORLY BEHAVED and therefore, have made history. That's for sure... Not really a TW, but just be aware that this episode is heavy on discussions of purity culture, particularly with regard to shipping age gaps. This Week In Fandom History is a fandom-centric podcast that tells you… what happened this week in fandom history! This week I am excited to be joined by the popular chess streamer, YouTuber, commentator, and champion player, WIM Anna-Maja Kazarian. Anna-Maja joined me from her home in the Netherlands after concluding a busy few months of competitive chess. Although she had her share of setbacks, these tournaments were largely successful, as Anna-Maja recently earned her first WGM Norm! Our conversation gave Anna-Maja the chance to reflect on the recent lessons she has learned as well as her goals both as a chess player and content creator. As she told me, Anna graduated from university somewhat recently and feels that this gives her an opportunity to devote all of her energy to chess improvement. She reflected on what aspects of the game she needs to work on, and also shared recommendations and advice for listeners. Last, and possibly least, we reflected on “Shoegate” the bizarre scandal where Anna-Maja somewhat unexpectedly made global headlines for her choice of footwear during the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz tournament. I am excited to see Anna-Maja's continued norm pursuit and really enjoyed chatting with her. Timestamps of topics discussed can be found below. Thanks to our sponsor, Chessable.com! While on my 13 mile run last week, I stopped for a few walking breaks and on those breaks I decided to record what was on my mind. I always find it cool and interesting to record while my mind is in an altered state, such as right after or during an intense workout or while driving and my mind is occupied. In this episode, I speak about specific adaptations to imposed demands, when it comes to training, Shoegate and the Ron DeSantis controversy over his actual height and more in the world of conspiracy. Lastly, I speak about the truth as I know it, developed through Direct Knowledge, not some shiny new textbook. I think this is super important, more and more as people have lost the ability to think critically, especially when it comes to logic and fitness. And, if you leave a solid review, text it over to me and I will either ship you out a free copy of my book or a blue Panda hat, whichever you like (908-229-6666). NewsRadio WFLA National Correspondent Rory O'Neill has the latest on the Israeli ground operations in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict with Hamas. Plus, a Daylight Saving Time discussion, everything you need to know about November 3rd, info on new 'Yellowstone' episodes, the continued controversy over Ron DeSantis' shoes, a citation issued to the 'Booty Patrol' driver, AI-generated nude photos of high school students, the release of the final Beatles song, a USF public-opinion survey on U.S. national security and foreign policy, a hero bus driver, Hunter Biden's op-ed about being a victim, and a North Dakota man fatally poisoned by his girlfriend.
Comedians Molly Mulshine & Sara Amour spill the hottest tea from last week's eclipse coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. Mostly we attempt to unpack the SHOEGATE phenomenon: Princess Catherine and Rose Hanbury (who trolls are convinced is Prince William's mistress) BOTH wore Meghan Markle's Signature Aquazzura pumps throughout the Royal festivities. It's the most massive passive aggressive fashion statement ever to come out of Westminster Abbey. Confounding to say the least.Join the Patreon! And leave a 5-star review! Hosted on Acast. Today however, the M's managed to get a game in. From Peoria, one of the rising stars in the Mariners organization, centerfielder Braden Bishop talks with us about the changes in the clubhouse, his own continued development, and his 4MOM charity. On an abbreviated Fun with Audio, we get the latest on the Robert Kraft investigation: Adam Schefter says this goes far beyond Robert Kraft, and Stephen A. Smith thinks it's no big deal. On Textimonials, Spencer receives a complimentary text, a thing not common on the text line, and Baby Shark resurfaces... again (you've been warned).
It's Softy's last day on vacation. Today, sitting in with Dick Fain is Spencer Hawes who was supposed to join us two weeks ago but was sidelined by snowpocalypse. We take this opportunity to get Spencer's take on everything happening in the world of college basketball. The Dawgs continue to tear their way through the Pac-12. How highly will they get seeded, and how far are they likely to go in the tournament? Is the Pac-12 proposal for outside investors good for the conference in the long run? Spencer shares his thoughts on Zion Williamson, player compensation, and the proposal to lower the NBA draft age.
