Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, released as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles: Turtles in Time in Europe, is a beat 'em up arcade video game produced by Konami and released in 1991. A sequel to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game, it is a scrolling beat 'em up type game based mainly on the 1987 TMNT animated series. Originally an arcade game, Turtles in Time was ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992 under the title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, continuing the numbering from the earlier Turtles games released on the original NES. That same year, a game that borrowed many elements, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist, was released for the Mega Drive/Genesis. This week, we're re-visiting a game that we covered back in the infant days of 'Remember The Game?', and this one goes all the way back to episode 2! My buddy Tyler is my guest, and we're taking another peak at one of the most beloved beat 'em ups in gaming history; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time! This bad boy is considered by many to be the best Ninja Turtles game ever made, and it's frigging thirty years old. I don't know if that's a testament to the quality of the game, or a shot at the lack of good Turtles games over the past 3 decades, but I digress. This game is rad, and I'm happy to welcome it back to the show. And of course, before Sewer Surfin', it's the Remember The Game Infamous Intro! This week, a listener writes in and says that 'Angry Adam' makes him feel better about his own kid's controller throwing. I get asked if I'd rather have all my childhood games back, or have the opportunity to invest in GameStop before that whole thing happened. And we talk about all the dormant Nintendo IPs, and why they aren't doing anything with them! Plus, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This time, it's the 'Make Adam Sweat' edition, featuring Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Earthbound. This is a big 'un. If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go: 0:00 - Intro 2:45 - Initial self-indulgent rambling & 'Expansion Pass #45: Cyber Shadow Review' Clip 9:30 - 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions) 22:15 - 'Play One. Remake One. Erase One.' 36:20 - What have I been playing? 38:15 - Listener's Turtles in Time Memories 45:00 + Turtle Talk! Enjoy the podcast!
This week on A Novel Console, Chris and Karradyne revisit their favorite pizza place, Santino's Pizza and Wings, and eat something different for once! Then they talk about their little Disney excursion to Batuu. Afterwards, Karradyne goes regal with the first book in the Bridgerton series, and she and Chris save New York and the space time continuum from the evil Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time for the SNES. Derek, Cheston and Setzer are back! Now that the holiday traveling is over, the boys get to it and talk about the best games of 2020. Derek and Cheston do fairly traditional "games that were released" in 2020 lists while Setzer does the ol "games I played for the first time in 2020" list. What games take the big honor? What got snubbed? Will Last of Us Part II dominate yet another awards showing? (no) Thanks for listening in 2020 and we hope to do bigger and better things in 2021! Bittersweet episode today as we round out our original 30 episodes. When we set out to do a podcast, never did we think we would reach 10 episodes much less 30. Our original 10 were all selected the week of recording with a lot of running around to get all the information gathered in a small amount of time. After episode 10, we decided to map everything out with the conclusion being Episode 30 - Zelda: A Link to the Past. Listen as we review this 1991 classic. This was a game Hammy played and beat some 25 years ago and this is the only Zelda title that Clint played in depth. How does it play today and hold up to our memories? Join us next week when we review Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time for the SNES!!! Please visit hamandspam.com and send us all of your TMNT IV questions, comments, and memories to our social media and be a part of the show!! Big thanks to our supporters and listeners. Gary Butterfield and Kole Ross rumble through Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time and Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara. Brawlers have a reputation for being simplistic and exploitative. They're a game design born of economic opportunity, engineered to accumulate quarters with frequency. But divorced from that, there are examples of brawlers with surprising depth and ingenuity. Turtles and Mystara are both great examples of the form, chosen by our community of Patreon backers.
