We're back, Dear Listeners - and we hear you! Tonight, we finally get round to extinguishing (some of) your burning questions - and, much like popular video game Sonic CD, it's about time. How do we feel about Mammoth Mogul? What's our perfect chili dog? And when will we record next? Turn on, tune in, find out (probably). Thoughts? Feelings? Hatemail? Email us: ghzpodcast@gmail.com!
We continue our jaunt through Sonic and Mario month 2024 with this game where you play as a blue hedgehog running round collecting rings and that. Time travel and the Mega CD / Sega CD are this game's USPs, and Chris has fond memories of playing the PC re-release in the late 90s. Will this swing Ashley into agreeing that Sonic games are alright, really? Para terminar, en nuestra sección Quemando Controles, os hablamos de lo que hemos estado jugando últimamente: Final Fantasy XVI, Uncharted 4, Tekken 8, West of Dead, Call of the Sea, Tecnoparrot Arcade (Outrun SP, GTI CLub, House of the Dead Scarlet Dawn, Sega Rally 3) Música: Beat Saber, Sonic CD, Alan Wake 2, Killer Instinct, Dead Cells, Crazy Taxi, Forza Horizon

“Toot-Toot Sonic Warrior deep in space and time, Toot-Toot Sonic Warrior forever in your mind” Our third Sonic the Hedgehog show comes on a shiny silver plastic platter, as we alight upon Sonic CD. Leon, Tony, returning guest Dan Clark and community correspondents attempt to decipher SEGA's time warp mechanics, 3D special stages and races with the sinister Metal Sonic (not Mecha Sonic who is a very different thing). Plus of course, we join in the 30 year old music debate as we muse upon the merits of both the Japanese and North American OSTs... http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/podcast/cane_and_rinse_issue_584.mp3 Music featured in this issue:1. The boys ramble about Sonic the Hedgehog Compact Disc (1993). What do you think we talk about? Do you think we bring up the US soundtrack vs Japanese/EU soundtrack debate? The opening animatic? The auteurship of director Naoto Ohshima? The various versions of the game and the evolution of the fandom's opinion on it? Good Future? Bad Future! Teleportation jaguar, yeah!

The franchise follows Sonic, an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog who battles the evil Doctor Eggman, a mad scientist. The main Sonic the Hedgehog games are platformers mostly developed by Sonic Team; other games, developed by various studios, include spin-offs in the racing, fighting, party and sports genres. The franchise also incorporates printed media, animations, feature films, and merchandise. Sega developed the first Sonic game, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis, to compete with Nintendo's mascot Mario. Its success helped Sega become one of the leading video game companies during the fourth generation of video game consoles in the early 1990s. Sega Technical Institute developed the next three Sonic games, plus the spin-off Sonic Spinball (1993). A number of Sonic games were also developed for Sega's 8-bit consoles, the Master System and Game Gear. Sega exited the console market and shifted to third-party development in 2001, continuing the series on Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation systems. Sonic Origins[b] is a 2022 Sonic the Hedgehog video game compilation by Sega. It features remasters of the first four platform games in the Sonic series originally released for the Sega Genesis and the Sega CD: Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Sonic CD (1993), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (1994). ________________________________________________________________________ Grab a beer, a slice of pizza and come hang out with us. With the new Sonic movie coming out this week, I thought it would be a great time to talk about the little blue blur's debut. We're finally talking about the original Sonic The Hedgehog. Personally, I think it's a revolutionary game, but the gameplay is mid, at best. However... The music, graphics, speed, and characters in this game are iconic. I'm such a big fan of Sonic himself, and my love of gaming history prevents me from really dunking on the aspects of this game that I don't like as much. My buddy (and FORMER RTG Hall of Famer) Mark McCue joins me on the show this week, and we spent about half of the episode talking about the game itself, and the other half on Sonic's legacy, and the impact this game had on gaming back in the early 90's. No Angry Adam this week, just straight up admiration for one of the most important and iconic games in retro gaming - Sonic the Hedgehog. And before we talk Sonic, it's another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we talk about what gaming would look like today if Sega hadn't dropped the ball in the 90's. A listener asks if anyone else spends more time collecting games than actually playing them? And how does it make me feel to be told people use this podcast to fall asleep? PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring three Sonic games: Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic Adventure 2. Are you on social media? Of course you are. The prodigal co-host returns, and with him a whole slew of relatively questionable video games! After we're done covering the topics everyone has been talking about – some Crash Bandicoot runner, a sleazy '90s FMV game, and Tekken 6's cooperative campaign –, we turn our attention to less trodden paths. That's right, we break new ground with revolutionary talk on From Software as well as a little game series we have affectionately dubbed Super Mario. Brogan spearheads both as he reports from his research into From's history by exploring their early years with the King's Field series and then proceeds to beat his co-host to the punch on finally breaching the matter of 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Pavlos, meanwhile, got sidetracked by Risk of Rain 2, an exciting sequel to 2013's indie roguelike hit and an all-around multiplayer delight. The game of the week is one near and dear to our heart, warts and all. Knuckles' Chaotix is an experimental co-op focused Sonic spin-off for Sega's Mega Drive add-on, the 32X, and a pretty successful first outing for a relatively inexperienced (not-Sonic Team) team that mostly just fails in one major way: the level design. As we are happy to break down, most other aspects are top notch, particulary the stylish art and animation as well as the evocative soundtrack, or at least fun in an interesting way, like the central conceit of the tether mechanic that lets you zoom around the (sadly, mostly empty) levels in exhilarating fashion. And then there's the mystery of Charmy's surname. A comparison of Chaotix to Knuckles' blue rival's adventure from the year before, Sonic CD, becomes the subject of much debate and, dare we say, elicits a hot take or two along the way. As we table this contended subject for another day, we bid our Chaotix friends farewell and hope that they return one day.
