In 1980, three friends were travelling on the South Western Highway from Perth to Harvey. They encountered a slight bend in the road and crashed into a tree. One of the friends, Terry, died at the scene, the two others escaped with minor injuries.  Investigations to find who was responsible began, but, both friends denied being the driver. The case was strange, and investigator Hadyn Green was unable to make an arrest until the appearance of a surprise piece of evidence.  Hadyn sat down with host Brent Sanders to unpack the circumstances around the crash and to explain the crippling reality of delivering death notices to families.  This episode contains graphic references to motor vehicle fatalities and suicide. People see a hairdresser to style their hair; a dentist to inspect their teeth; a chiropractor to help with their back. So when it comes to physical fitness, why do people think they can do it on their own? Even when it comes to people who are serious about getting in shape, they are often reluctant to sign on with a personal trainer. Is that a problem with the public’s attitude, or with personal trainers in general? On a special episode of the PT COREntrepeneur podcast, two guests share their progressive approach to heal that divide and get everyone–trainers and clients alike–to think differently about personal training. “It's all about the experience. If a personal trainer spends an hour with a client, the client will probably not remember every exercise that they've been through; but they will definitely remember how they felt at the end of that session...It's not what people think, it's how you make people feel.” - Hadyn Parry About Pete Banbury and Hadyn Parry Pete and Hadyn are respectively CEO and director of HPT5. Founded in 2016, HPT5 offers innovative programs that help personal trainers, gym owners, and managers prepare for the future of the fitness industry. Their foundational Specialist Programme combines instruction in body mapping, functional biomechanics, and injury management. Their combined experience in professional fitness and team management, along with a shared passion for education, is creating a new breed of personal trainer: one that makes exercise irresistible. In this episode: How HPT5’s programs encourage trainers to think differently about their work Why a thorough and hands-on knowledge of biomechanics is a must for trainers. Why trainers need to orient themselves towards an aging public. Understanding injury management, and why therapy and fitness are inseparable. How inspiring others comes not from lecturing, but by asking the right questions. “Your value is not in programming.” Why trainers need to focus on cultivating client experiences. “This is a health brief; it’s not fitness, big biceps, big abs kind of message. I feel that at the moment, the fitness industry is missing the mark and it needs to get it’s act together...We need to stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about the millions of people out there who can do with our help. So, that’s why I set up HPT5, to reach those people.” The PT COREntreprenur Podcast is a project from Core Collective. This episode is brought to you by Nuzest. There’s a running joke here at On The Dot that if there’s a way I can slip in some sort of tidbit about cats, I will. Well guess what, ladies? The time is nigh! I’m letting the cat out of the bag! Sometimes these furballs get a bad rap, in my opinion. They’re considered predators by bird enthusiasts and, I’ll admit, maybe they aren’t the friendliest with their feathered colleagues. But like the rest of us, cats are allowed to have frenemies too, right? Despite their hunting proclivities, cats can also become our snuggliest best friends. And all it takes is a kitty softly bumping his head with yours, or a lap-sitting purr fest that lasts an hour or a cute little meow when you walk through the door to make you see why Egyptians worshiped cats as the most sacred of creatures. For our final coffee break about sunrises, we revisit Hadyn's The Creation and the Big Bang, just because it's so amazing. We listen to how the human voice recreates the sunrise in a contemporary work, Dazzle of Day. Then we step back in time to Charles Ives' Decoration Day to hear the melancholy, layered sound of memory, then listen to the mystery of the first Easter morning. For our last sunrise, we hear Louis Spohr's invocation of the dawn after the Apocalypse. Contact the show at YCCB@mauriceriverpress.com

There's a lot of existential dread in the world right now, and I think we're all feeling it. It even seeps into our favorite escape, in the form of choice paralysis and gaming guilt. Things get REAL in this episode, about our lives, the place of games, fear of mortality and over-exertion. But don't worry, we also get to fun synth-singing, our favorite games, and our mutual love of sports in other media. Discussed: The Witcher 3, Mafia 3, Battlefield 1, Star Wars, Yowamushi Pedal, The Natural, Pitch, Creed, Halt and Catch Fire, Hadyn
