Transcrição do Episódio Música: Surface Of SR388, Ancient Chozo Ruins e Metroid Nest por Ryoji Yoshitomi. Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series on 1991's Eye of the Beholder, from Westwood Studios and published by Strategic Simulations Inc. We set the game in its time before exploring its primary mechanics and the feel of being in this world. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: First level or two Issues covered: knowing who the evil is, tactical top down Gold Box, the opening cutscene, being amazed at how much they get into the Game Boy version of a Metroid game, lots of movie tie-ins, a wide variety of machines, lack of automap, being everything one wanted for a Forgotten Realms nerd, one of the ten games, semi real-time, living inside the depths of Waterdeep, a style of play which continues today, having to rest immediately, gaining information through audio, uncovering the whole map vs racing towards the goal, tournament play, losing is fun, the only way out is through, annotating a later map, interacting with the play space, accessibility and the mouse, contextualization and abstraction in game design, having to throw weapons in the world, how cool the audio is, using items to locate yourself, creating a party, crunchy spells, shout-outs to upcoming work, difficulty in the bosses in Metroid games then and now, games influencing games, getting the green light, justifying the game via the sweet spot of trends, why not just make this a Star Wars game, how green lighting changes with bigger franchises, games that changed our perspectives. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Gold Box games, Westwood Studios, Dune 2, A Link to the Past, Super Castlevania IV, SNES, Mega Man 4, Final Fantasy IV, Metroid II: Return of Samus (and Metroid series), Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Genesis, Battletoads, Rare, Stamper Bros, Civilization, Another World, Space Quest IV, Monkey Island 2, Wing Commander 2, Hudson Hawk, Terminator 2, American Gladiators, Hunt for Red October, The Godfather, Amiga, PC-98, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Apple ][, Spectrum ZX, Amstrad, Questron, Disney, Legend of Kyrandia, Command and Conquer (series), Electronic Arts, Earth and Beyond, Louis Castle, Brett Sperry, Strategic Simulations Incorporated, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, Pool of Radiance, The Ruins of Myth Drannor, Ultima (series), Wizardry (series), A Bard's Tale (series), Ultima Underworld, Dungeon Master, Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest (series), Diablo, Wasteland, Temple of Elemental Evil, Legend of Grimrock, Etrian Odyssey (series), The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh, The Tomb of Horrors, Infocom, Ocarina of Time, Rogue, Deluxe Paint, Baldur's Gate, Jarkko Sivula, Single Malt Apocalypse, Sierra, LucasArts, Wierd Tales, Amazing Stories, Tintin, Pippin Barr, David Wolinsky, Game Thing, The Stuff Games Are Made Of, Walker, Dark Souls, Nintendo, Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, Johnny Pockets, Mad Max, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Republic Commando, Sam and Max: Freelance Police, Bounty Hunter, RTX Red Rock, Gladius, PlayStation, Tomb Raider (series), Halo: Infinite, Quake, MYST, Lode Runner, Sabotage, Robotron 2084, Joust, Dark Forces, WoW Classic, Everquest, MUD, Ultima Online, Meridian 59, Adventure, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I like Samus, and I like the Metroid series. Well, at least games from Super Metroid onward. I tried the original Metroid on the NES last year and respected what it did, but thought it was a little frustrating for my tastes. Fast forward a year later, and Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy is on the hot seat after overcoming all comers in our Patreon Poll. Some seem to love it, some find it a little confusing. I definitely fund myself in the second category. I think it's a cool concept, but my "Metroid gets good at Super Metroid" stance hasn't changed. My buddy Daniel is the biggest Metroid fan I know, and he gave me a call this week to talk about hunting Metroids on a little green screen, and how this game is ambitious, albeit, maybe a little flawed. And before we get lost and rage quit, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I'll ever cover pre-NES games on the podcast? Do I break out my Simpsons impressions when I'm doing standup? And what's my favourite Metroid game? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Samus classics: Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
We're kicking it old school this week, as we're diving into one of the most important and underrated games in the series - Metroid II! We're once again joined by Staff Writer Daniel Hoctor to go over our first memories of playing it, how its limitations might or might not dissuade newer players, the importance of the games story and gameplay on the rest of the series, why none of the music has come back, our thoughts on the evolution of the Metroids, what this original version offers that neither Samus Returns or AM2R does, and so much more! If you haven't played Metroid II in a long time, or maybe ever, you owe it to yourself to fire it up on NSO and give it a whirl! I've had Metroid fever lately and I thought of a fun little mini series I'd do. Cash in on my 7 day free trial of Nintendo Online, try to finish Metroid 2 blind in a week and surely fail but have a lot of fun. I sat down, pressed record and apparently I don't actually have a free trial so I decided to just play A Robot Named Fight and the original Metroid.

“So the Galactic Federation called it's members to an urgent conference to find a way to overcome this menace. They quickly came to one conclusion, which was unanimous and simple…give Samus Aran the order to exterminate the Metroids!” Five years after the release of Metroid, Gunpei Yakoi and the team at Nintendo R&D1 sought to utilise the then new Gameboy platform to bring the graphics and explorative gameplay from the original NES title to the new handheld device. The first season of Game Informer's Video Gameography explores the history of the Metroid series. After running down Samus' classic debut, we're moving on to its polarizing handheld sequel, Metroid II: Return of Samus. Developed by Nintendo R&D1, Metroid II is largely viewed as the red-headed stepchild of the series. Samus' encore outing launched on the Game Boy in 1991, which means it was limited in terms of presentation and scale. The monochrome graphics and zoomed-in perspective made exploration trickier than its predecessor, and the primary mission tasked players with locating and eradicating over 40 Metroids scattered across the map, a mission structure that hasn't been implemented since. Join hosts Ben Reeves (@BenjaminReeves), Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), and special guest, comic book writer/podcast host Chris Sims (@theisb), as we explore Metroid II's lore, development history, and lasting impact, such as the fact that it's received two modern remakes, both officially and otherwise. If you'd like to get in touch with the Video Gameography podcast, you can email us at podcast@gameinformer.com. With Metroid Dread’s release, it was inevitable that we took some time to discuss one of our favourite properties from the greaties. While Steve’s initial reaction to the nine minutes that he’s played of the latest Switch title is cold, the fact remains that Metroid is a franchise that we’ve both loved since playing it on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. If you are looking for a good Metroid game, Steve’s ranking on the Franchise is as follows: 1. Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS)2. Super Metroid (SNES)3. Metroid II: Return of Samus (Gameboy)4. Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA)5. Metroid (NES)6. Metroid Fusion (GBA)7.[...]
Samus is here to do two things: read the map and kill metroids. And this game doesn't have a map.

We've gathered a mix of old and new voices to join our latest Metroid Game Club discussion. Metroid II: Return of Samus sets the groundwork for not only an official remake in Metroid: Samus Returns, but a slew of fan remakes including the legendary AM2R. Our gang discusses the evolution of gameplay, interpretations of the story, and the place of fan games within the franchise. Connectivity has joined Twitter, so be sure to follow @ConnectivityNWR to be up to date on any announcements. We are wanting more listener participation, so feel free to ask questions, they may show up in the show! The boys are back with the latest entry in the Definitive Ranking series, going all the way back to 1991 to talk about Metroid II: Return of Samus? How does the original Game Boy classic hold up? Should Metroid fans bother with this title or just head straight to the remakes? And might this be the best example of a game making chicken salad out of chicken you-know-what? Come find out with us! Just as a refresher, the categories we're ranking each game in are: - World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood) - Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general) - Story (what works, what doesn't) - Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?) - Gameplay / "Gimmick" (what new or different gameplay aspects we like) - Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical) - Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.) - Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.) - Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?) - Music (are we humming along?) Of course, all of these are subjective, and we're putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Twitter! Subscribe! A frequent request of the hot dogs is for us to cover more handheld games on the podcast. And I'm nothing, if not a man of the hot dogs. So today we're talking Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for the OG Game Boy. This is a special game for a few reasons. First and foremost, it's really good. The original Super Mario Land was sweet, but the sequel was a HUGE jump in quality in every regard; graphics, gameplay, music, everything. It's a game tons of us 90's kids grew up with. And most importantly, Super Mario Land 2 saw the debut of one of the greatest characters in not only Nintendo history, but GAMING history - Wario. My friend Bradley joins me on the show this week, and we got fired right up talking about Mario, Wario, and 6 gold coins. If you haven't played this game, take a couple hours and run through it. Wario commands you! And before we talk Wario, it's another edition Remember The Game Infamous Intro! This week, I share my opinions on pinball, point & click adventure games, and whether or not the onus is on us, as gamers, to buy games at full price to support studios and developers. Plus, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This time, it's the "Game Boy Greats" edition, featuring Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Metroid II: Return of Samus, and Mega Man V! Are you on social media? Of course you are. So follow us! We'll probably follow you back ;) Twitter: @MemberTheGame Instagram: @MemberTheGame Facebook.com/MemberTheGame Twitch.tv/MemberTheGame

Tyler and Mike talk about Metroid II! They also discuss the origins of Samus' name. The theme music is by RoccoW. The logo was created by Dani Dodge.
In this Game Club we continue our exploration of the Metroid series, which we last covered in episode 68. This time, it's the Gameboy classic; Metroid II.
Spill vi snakker om i episode 49: PGA 2K21, Golf Story, Tetris, Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/TCG, Dr. Mario, Super Mario Land 1-3/3D World/3D All-Stars, Mario Kart Live, Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Kirby's Dream Land, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening/Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages/The Wind Waker/Breath of the Wild, The Secret of Monkey Island, Spiritfarer, Raji: An Ancient Epic, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Hearthstone, Football Manager, Teamfight Tactics, Persona 5 Royal, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Greedfall, God of War, World of Warcraft, Phantasy Star Online, Adventure Island, Discworld, Ufouria: The Saga, Mega Man 3.
In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia interviews the man behind the fan remake of 1991 Game Boy game Metroid II: Return of Samus titled Another Metroid 2 Remake, Milton "DoctorM64" Gausti. They discuss about his earliest video game memories, what made him decide to do a fan remake on Metroid II, and the 10 year process on creating one of the most well regarded fan games in recent memory.

Lawerence has completed his playthrough of Metroid II: Return of Samus. He joins Neil (@neilbigdeal) to discuss the best way to defeat the Metroid queen, what aeion energy is, and how the Chozo left their mess for Samus to clean up. This is an [Expert] level episode, which means some parts of the discussion may not make sense unless you’ve played the game. Expect lots of spoilers.
Lawerence is playing through Metroid II: Return of Samus for the first time in over a decade with one goal in mind: finish the game this time around. Neil (@neilbigdeal) explains why Samus finds herself on Planet SR388, why the planet is so significant to the Metroid species, and the ultimate folly of the Chozo people. This is an [Easy] level episode, which means you will be able to follow the discussion even if you haven’t played the game. Expect spoilers.
For best listening, please begin this podcast at 4:09:40 local time. This is it - what remains of all human life. After the events in Antarctica brought about catastrophic climate change, we pinned all our hopes on the work being done at the GeoFront. Mankind survives because it has the will to do so - this is also the nature of Power, the topic of this episode. During this talk, Greg refuses to get back in his mech. Colin embraces the forbidden union of Adam and Lilith. Giovanni reverts to primordial soup. Dave awakes on a beach only to comment, "how disgusting." All this, and your hosts still manage to talk about Gex for like 20 minutes. If you're too afraid, you can always leave. But why not stop by Apple Podcasts and give us a review before you do. If you'd like to attack our egos directly just like Arael, you can do so on our Facebook and Twitter. Finally, if you'd like to explore the reality in which we are all one, you can check out our videos on YouTube. Games discussed include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Super Mario Bros. 3, Monster Hunter: World, and Metroid II: Return of Samus Show Notes: Mario Kills Tanooki, PETA

This week on the show, Joe and Marc reconvene to discuss the difference between childhood and adulthood gaming, taking into consideration the advent of the internet to spoil everything before its release, as well as the availability of information and of games. Marc shares his experience with a game called Contagion, the successor to Zombie Panic Source. He also reminds Joe that Halloween in Animal Crossing is on its way, but not before sharing his experience with P.T. Joe immediately fell back into Mario Kart 8 after the new DLC announcements, and holding the Wii U GamePad led him to explore the challenge modes in Pikmin 3. Both Marc and Joe close the book on what was Metroid II: Return of Samus, and they share their thoughts on the future of Nintendo and the new 3DS. We also ask the question of the week: What would you name the next Nintendo home console?
This week on FourPlay, Marc goes for the second quest in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Dan gets bored in Puppeteer, Tyler tries to find the heart in Valiant Hearts, and Joe tries to memorize combos as he falls back in love with Injustice: Gods Among Us. Everyone laments the experience of Metroid II: Return of Samus but find solace in exploring what could come of a Lord of the Rings fighting game. Finally, everyone shares their Game Boy memories and Tyler is asked to climb in the back of Ako's dad's van.

Aslyums, Borderlands, Sharknadoes and Other Disasters As far as podcasts go, this is a short one - but one packed full of juicy content. New Business is inaugurated by Donald's jumping headlong into the Open World insanity of Saints Row The Third, a land where Havok physics are abused beyond recognition. Scared witless by this, he then retreats to the relative safety of 2013's most massive crossover, Project Cross (or X) Zone, a game that doesn't attempt to live up to Fire Emblem but will inevitably draw comparisons. Austen is buried under piles of editing and guns in Gearbox's Borderlands 2, a game that is almost worth getting sued over. Stephen wraps the segment with the g-d Batman in Batman: Arkham Aslyum before closing with some harsh words for former Retroactive winner Metroid II: Return of Samus. After an actually informative Now Posted segment, Whatcha Watchin' is even more massive than before. Donald has former and current reality shows in WWE NXT and MasterChef, before bringing us the movie event of 2013... Sharknado. Austen has some caped crusader action of his own with the Beware the Batman premier, as well as one hell of an action packed double feature with White House Down and Guillermo del Toro's love letter to mecha anime, Pacific Rim. Stephen gets a little animated near the end as he and Austen tear into Despicable Me 2. In the Feature Discussion, the Lightning Round boomerangs its way back into the conversation, with topics hitting all three console manufacturers and PC as well as general gaming trends. Subjects such as incompetent PR, zombies, and the effect of Playstation Plus beyond giving people lots of free games are put under the five-minute microscope. A melancholy set of Mushrooms brings the show to a close with reflections on the passing of Ryan Davis, as well as tanking in sports and bad computers. Next show will mark one year since we started Nintendo Free Radio, and we couldn't do it without the knowledge that you're listening - so drop us an email, will ya? The address is nintendofreeradio@gmail.com, and here's something to chew on - what's your most anticipated game coming out before the end of the year and why? Oh, don't worry, that's not all this week's PB & Jason is about, but it does take up a substantial amount of airtime. With it is talk of the recently announced Europe-exclusive PSP model, the PSP E-1000, along with a little bit of analysis of what it means to drop the PSP's wifi capabilities. In the middle, there's a brief bit about actual video games! Did you know Kirby Returns to Dream Land will let all four players be Kirby now? I didn't until today, and now you do, too! Alongside this is a brief discussion of the upcoming 3DS Virtual Console games Metroid II: Return of Samus and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. I talk about my recent experiences with Super Mario Land to wrap up this segment of the podcast. The issue wraps up detailing a nice article written by Blake Snow over at CNN. Listen to what I have to say about it, and check it out for yourself if you're interested.
