Begin juni mogen we ons weer opmaken voor het beste wat golf betreft in Nederland. Op The International in Badhoevedorp gaat de 106de editie van de KLM Open plaatsvinden met als thema 'Opwarmen voor Oranje'. Als sinds jaar en dag is het KLM Open één van de meest populaire stops op de DP World Tour en het toernooi trekt dan ook grote namen aan. Ook dit jaar is er een mooi deelnemersveld met toppers als Francesco Molinari, Danny Willett en Sami Välimäki, afgewisseld met Neêrlands trots als Joost Luiten en de in topvorm verkerende Darius van Driel. Koningsdag en we praten na over de competitiekraker van heren 3 op Haviksoord tegen Eindhoven. Peter was nl. gastheer en hij heeft alleen bunkers geharkt. Teams die elkaar in de afgelopen jaren al vaak zijn tegengekomen en altijd een spannende wedstrijd was, zo nu ook. Eindhovensche speelde een soort thuiswedstrijd met het publiek in de baan, gezellig hoor. Na de foursomes 3-3 en de singles waren lang spannend. Toch een mooie 11-7 eruit gesleept.In professioneel golf was er een major bij de dames. Nelly was in elke post van de LPGA te vinden en terecht, een indrukwekkende win voor haar in de Chevron. Fitzie (Matt) speelde met broer Alex in de Zurich Classic. Door -15 op de 3e dag genoeg voorsprong om lekkend tot het eind met 1 slag verschil te winnen. Matt is hot met zijn 3e win en Alex heeft nu ook een PGA Tour kaart.DP World was in Shanghai voor het Volvo China Open. Veel Chinese talenten die het allemaal niet 4 dagen vol konden houden. Titelverdediger Wu was de beste Chinees, gedeeld 8e samen met onze Darius van Driel. On this edition of Free City Radio we hear from community organizer Bill Van Driel. Bill speaks about experiences during the major protests against the G20 in Toronto in relation to the police and legal repression that was experienced by the protesters. Bill contextualizes this moment within a continuum of both protest actions taking place during this period against closed door international summits around the world, largely demonstrations focused on opposing the inherent inequality of capitalism. Also Bill places the repression that protest movements experienced within a realistic framework of understanding these moments of heightened police repression as reflected by media coverage that doesn't focus on the larger systemic mechanisms of social control and repression. Today Bill works with Solidarity Across Borders and has played a meaningful role in bridging anti-capitalist and migrant justice organizing spaces. This interview took place within the context of building discussions on the threat posed by a rising political support for the Conservative Party of Canada and what that means for social movements as well as vulnerable communities. Dr. van Driel is a gynecological oncologist at the Netherlands Cancer Institute since 2004 and has, amongst others, a special interest in determining the role of HIPEC in the treatment of patients with advanced ovarian carcinoma and is PI of the OVHIPEC 1 and OVHIPEC 2 study. Dr. Aronson is a medical doctor currently pursuing a PhD in Gynaecological Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. Her research focuses on hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) as well as immunotherapy in primary advanced ovarian cancer.    Highlights: The long-term survival analysis of the OVIHPEC-1 study confirms the significant improvement in progression-free and overall survival when adding HIPEC to interval cytoreductive surgery in patients with FIGO stage III ovarian carcinoma for whom primary cytoreduction is not considered feasible due to extensive disease. Neither the number of lines nor the type of subsequent treatment for recurrence differed between the treatment groups. Therefore, the observed improvement in overall survival is unlikely to be attributable a difference in subsequent therapies. Identification of biomarkers (e.g. BRCA/HRD status) to select patients for HIPEC and the combination of HIPEC with PARP inhibitors warrants further investigation.
