Dr. Simmons draws from his rich experiences as a Navy officer, educator, and lifelong learner to discuss agape love—the unconditional love for humanity—and how it can bridge gaps in understanding and connection across generational, cultural, and social divides. He emphasizes the importance of meeting people where they are, building relationships, and fostering respect and empathy to create meaningful connections. Dr. Simmons shares his approach of self-awareness, transparency, and accountability, supported by his four pillars—responsibility, accountability, trust, and loyalty. Through self-reflection and modeling positive behaviors, he advocates for embracing diversity and helping others grow. Welcome to an audio-led edition of Unmade.Today's edition of The Unmakers features Tony Simmons, founder of audio technology startup Sonnant. Anyone interested in understanding how spoken audio content will be monetised in the future will find it a fascinating listen. In today's edition of the Unmakers, Unmade's Tim Burrowes talks to Tony Simmons, CEO and founder of Sonnant, an Australia-founded AI platform for broadcast and podcast audio that is set to become a major player in the monetisation of digital audio.Sonnant uses AI to automate many of the manual processes taking place behind the scenes in audio businesses including Southern Cross Austereo, ARN, Nova and Nine. In the future it offers the prospect of real time insertion of advertising that fits within the context of the conversation.Simmons doesn't come from the traditional radio world. He hails from a tech and data background and started his career as a commercial lawyer before founding and selling several software businesses over the last 15 years.“We were doing AI before it was sexy,: says Simmons. “Maybe we weren't doing podcasts before they were sexy, but we were right ahead of the curve in terms of blending the two together.”Sonnant converts content into data for a variety of functions - including indexing content to make recalling clips of words or phrases from the archive instant, AI-powered content summaries, asset creation including clips and audiograms, permanent clip housing and automated speaker identification.“Behind every word, there's energy, there's sentiment, there's how long you pause for, there's volume, there's gap between previous word, gap between the next word. If you look at human communication and try to turn that into data, that is a massive exercise. In order to automate things effectively and replicate human endeavour, data is the building blocks to be able to do that from a technology point of view,” Simmons explains.“So the starting point for us was understand what data points are there and then what data points are going to be relevant to automate manual work and increase the lifeblood of this industry, impressions and advertising dollars.”The software is also developed to identify how advertising can help be contextualised for optimal relevance. The product is also adept at creating social media-ready content like audiograms that are contextually relevant without needing zero human input or editing. “Everyone's seen how ChatGPT can create web pages and summarize content. So being able to turn one long-form piece of content into all your tweets and all your YouTube shorts and Instagram posts is a no-brainer as far as producing long-form content. Pulling out the relevant hashtags, putting your headline in this can all be done through incredible automation at scale.”Audio production was courtesy of Abe's Audio, the people to talk to about voiceovers, sound design and podcast production.Message us: letters@unmade.media This is a public episode. Maybe you noticed the fires, the crashes, and scream. The zombies.I was one of them, just another mindless goon - then I woke up. Looked around. Noticed the scarcity of prey, the abundance of predators. Even a dead man can do the math.I made a plan. Gathered weapons and gear. I put down crowds of goons, walking among, bullets to their heads. Made hot meals of survivors who mistook me for salvation. When I found a group of humans hiding in a junkyard, my plans coalesced. I began leaving them piles of food and supplies. Fattened them up. Built their trust. Promised them I would lead them, one at a time, to a safe haven, a zombie-free zone. The dead can't be trusted, of course, but they don't know I'm dead.""This Mortal Flesh is furious, skull splitting action. Hammers to heads, bullets to brains and buckets of blood. But in the quiet moments while the characters biund their wounds and reload, this novel also asks what it means to be human. In a grim future where it appears there are only predators and prey, Simmons shows us that good and evil still exist, and more importantly, that they matter." -Mark Boss, author of 'One Bullet'https://www.amazon.com/This-Mortal-Flesh-Novel-Awakening-ebook/dp/B00SJHYEXA/We’re supporting authors like you. Tony Simmons is the Founder and Director of Mktplace Ventures, a start-up and scale-up business advisory and community of investors. With a background in law and a fascination for the seed-stage of business, Tony uses his business-based perspective on intellectual property and technology to help fledgling companies build the strong foundations needed to become players in their markets. In this episode, Tony shares his views on three things he looks for in founders and their start-ups, and how that increases the chances of success or lowers the chance of failure. Breaking down what a start-up is versus scaling-up, and how that applies to innovating within the healthcare sector, Tony's lived experience as a business builder and value creator shine through in this discussion!   Key takeaways: The number one indicator of success in a start-up is the art of storytelling — the art of the why. Those who have a why and can clearly articulate it will be able to bring people along on their journey. Being engaged with other contemporaries in your field gives you great exposure to the new things coming onto the market, what might represent best practice, what you're doing right and what could be improved. Consumers want a good feeling about the choices they've made. People will generally opt for an outcome that's more efficient and that makes them feel better along the way. Moving from start-up to scale-up is about learning business disciplines and organisational skills that enable you to put money in and multiply it out. Founders often become redundant very quickly. The more successful a business is, the quicker a founder can find themselves in a position where they don't have the right skills. The skills that are needed to grow a company may not be the skills that are needed by a founder. 80% of every single business is the same, 20% is the technical magic that makes the business different. Mktplace Ventures is about making sure the fundamentals of a business are rock solid so that the business can focus on developing that 20%.   Resources and links: Mktplace Ventures https://www.linkedin.com/in/tony-simmons/   Connect: Listen to other episodes of Reimagining Healthcare Connect with Yianni Serpanos on LinkedIn Follow HealthTechX on LinkedIn Follow HealthTechX on Instagram Follow HealthTechX on Meetup

Ebb is a river legend and all around badass. Tony just recently received 2 IGFA world records for his hard work, and I couldn't be happier to have recorded a great podcast. Not only can Tabasco be found in just about every kitchen throughout America, it is also one of our country’s oldest and largest family-owned-and-operated businesses. Every bottle of this world-renowned special sauce is, and always has been, processed on their family-owned Avery Island. And at 9am on just about any given morning, this is where you will find Tony checking on the 96 barrels of the mash used to make his “Cajun ketchup” which he says, “Tastes like candy.” Tony gives us even more reason to love Tabasco. He shares the history of the McIlhenny family, how this liquid pepper became an American culinary staple and what the next 150 years just might look like for this beloved bottle of spicy tastiness. Collective Campus recently announced the AsiaPac’s first virtual and augmented reality startup accelerator, the Village Roadshow Xperience Accelerator, in collaboration with Microsoft. We’re big believers in the value and power of combining startup grit, speed and experimentation with the core assets, access and scale of a large company so we’ll be scouting Australia wide looking for 8 to 10 entertainment startups using VR or AR to change the face of entertainment. To celebrate and raise awareness, we hosted launch nights in both Melbourne and Sydney last week. Our Melbourne event drew well over 120 people and a fun evening was had by all, made all the more fun by augmented reality enabled popcorn boxes which when scanned revealed Marty McFly being eaten by an CGI shark in 1989’s Back To The Future, which served as one of the movie’s many accurate predictions of the future. Collective Campus co-founder Sean Qian, who you might remember from some of the early episodes of Future Squared, hosted a panel on the evening to discuss emerging trends in the mixed reality sector and how it will enhance the entertainment industry. The panel was made up of Jon Satterly, Chief Digital Officer at Village Roadshow and former head of Roadrunner Records Australia, Lawrence Crumpton, Microsoft’s HoloLens Evangelist and Tony Simmons, CEO and Founder of Mrktplace Ventures. If you couldn’t make it then you’re in luck because that conversation is the focus of today’s episode. For more information on the Xperience Accelerator head to www.xperienceaccelerator.cc So with that, strap yourself in, arm yourself with some popcorn and enjoy an enlightening conversation on the future of entertainment.
